Guest Reviews
- beverlybI7381SA (10/5): Awesome atmosphere! - Staff are awesome! The room was immaculate! They are so willing to help. I needed a couple things for my disabled husband and they responded so well and very fast! We are definitely enjoying our stay! Thank you!
- Rafael (9/5): Excelentes instalaciones - Las instalaciones y muy buen gusto dell ambiente y adornos Que No se hizo el aseo del cuarto durante la estancia
- 689teda (10/5): Relaxing - Really easy location. Been here before. Close to all and easy to get anywhere from hotel location. Staff excellent. We will be back.
- jeuty (8/5): Loved our stay in Fairbanks - The hotel is in a very good location. Fred Meyer is at walkable distance so we got everything we needed from there for our 4 days stay.
The room came with a kitchen so you can cook your own food and it came handy for our toddler's lunch and dinner.
The rooms are old but clean. They are warm and comfortable.
The hotel provides free shuttle service from the railroads and the airport so that was really convenient. Also they have a laundry service with a cost.
For me the only con was the wash basin is outside the bathroom.
I would stay there again if I visit Fairbanks again.
- 604pranjalb (10/5): Cozy and home like experience with family and kids - Very nice cozy suite room with balcony and kitchen. Relaxing feel like home experience with complimentary shuttle service, breakfast, coffee. Laundry is easy with self service washer and drier machines in the hotel.
- V9920OCmichaelm (8/5): Comfy bed, full kitchen, and convenient location. - I stayed at Sophie Station Suites in FEB and MAR 2026, for two separate business trips. It had been a few years since I last stayed there, so the recently upgraded mattresses are a pleasant change. Also, I always appreciate having a full kitchen, in order to avoid having to eat out, every night. There are new cardio machines on order, so the exercise room is currently very limited, but it is anticipated to be improved by summer of 2026. The staff was very friendly, even accommodating my request to change floors / rooms, at check-in. I ate dinner at Zack's, on my last night. The service was very attentive and burger was quite tasty, but it took a long time to arrive -- it was pretty packed, though, on a Sunday night.
- liang (10/5): Exceeded our expectations - Enjoyed staying here for four nights. The suites are spacious and quite roomy. The kitchen is very convenient and has everything we needed to prepare breakfast and dinner. The receptionists are very friendly, especially Quinn and Kaitlynn, who always answered our questions patiently. The location is a plus—within walking distance to two major supermarkets. Highly recommended! non
- Hsuanjung (7/5): - 離超市不遠 早餐非常簡單,工作人員要收之前沒有提醒,一轉眼就收光了
- Linda (10/5): Enjoyed our stay and the excited energy of tour guests and families in the hotel. - Dining on site was welcome at the end of long days. Staff were friendly. Airport shuttle was welcome. Older but good.
- Yi Ting (8/5): -
- 684terip (10/5): Great Place to Stay! - The suites are roomy, clean, fully equipped with eating utensils. They come with a small balcony which would be nice during the summer.
- Aruna (8/5): Decent hotel, difficult without car - Mostly clean, very spacious, kitchen was useful on snowy days.
Big grocery store nearby. If you're not driving, this location is far from town and rather inconvenient.
The airport shuttle is hard to book - many Alaska landlines don't accept international numbers. I even showed the receptionist that I was unable to call the landline and she was nonchalant. I called over fifteen times and left a few messages through booking.com but got no response. It was a day with heavy snow so this was hugely inconvenient. The airport staff helped me call the hotel eventually. The hotel can consider having a WhatsApp line instead.
The restaurant only opens at 4pm. The grab n go breakfast finishes very quickly so there's no food in the hotel except for some cookies and chips by the reception until 4pm.
- cherri (10/5): A great place in a great location. - Check in was easy and quick. Our room was clean, comfortable. The shuttle driver was EXCELLENT. He was on time, helpful, friendly. He made the early morning trip to the airport very enjoyable. He also was bringing the breakfast food to the lobby when we came downstairs, and he let us grab an orange and a burrito to go. VERY friendly, helpful....a great ambassador for Sophie Station Suites. We had salads for dinner at the restaurant. Our server was friendly and helpful, but service was slow.
- Grandgator (8/5): Excellent Suite Hotel - Stayed here one night before taking the FAI-ANC Aurora train. Plane was late but shuttle still picked me up at 0100. Very clean and nice hotel. Full kitchen, large rooms, free grab and go breakfast in the AM….burritos, fruit, coffee. Restaurant open for dinner. I walked to Fred Meyer for lunch. Excellent shuttle to train station. I would definitely stay here again.
- Yu Ken (10/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): Lovely stay, spacious rooms and good service. Nice amenities and full kitchen…lots of access doors. Will stay here again - Spacious rooms and nice decor. The restaurant was small yet service was good. The food took a long time…

- icefogak (8/5): Great Place to Stay - I really like the staff here and the rooms are some of the best in Fairbanks hands-down. The grab and go Breakfast could use some improvement but for me and my clients, this was an excellent choice
- Ralph (10/5): Very comfortable stay - Location and exceptional staff Lack of USB ports readily available
- Vicki (10/5): Dependable facility - We stay here often. We know what the stay will be like and feel very comfortable at Sophie Station Suites. It's nice that they have moved their bagged breakfast to the main floor where there are tables for people to sit at.
- apollod452 (2/5): Poor Experience! - My room was not ready at 4 pm check in. Later, I had to go to the desk to get an iron and ironing board. There we as two people working the desk and neither offered to bring the iron and board to my room.
Reception people were not welcoming or polite. Did not seem to care. Probably underpaid and no expectation to go above and beyond.
Bartender and server for restaurant were awesome, but understaffed. There should have been one or two more servers working.
- wardeljan (6/5): Basic Mediocre Hotel - This hotel was just ok. The room was spacious and quiet and had a full kitchen. But the WiFi was terrible. The restaurant was mediocre. The complimentary “grab and go” breakfast was bare bones.
- sandic839 (10/5): Favorite place in Fairbanks - The beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious. The hotel room was quiet. Four adults stayed in a room and had a meal there. We have stayed in other hotels in Fairbanks and this is by far our favorite. The price is comparable to other places and has more room. All four of us said that we wouldn't change a thing.
- Scott (9/5): -
- 6mmmm9 (2/5): Let's cherish nature. - I booked this hotel after seeing positive reviews about the food, but the dinner was disappointing, and the grab-and-go breakfast was so terrible that I threw it away after one bite.
I had a large box full of recyclables and asked where the recycling bins were, but I was told there weren't any. They only recycle newspapers. I paid $20 and asked an employee to recycle everything for me. I stayed at a Hampton Inn before this hotel, and they had recycling bins for paper, plastic, and cans, which I thought was standard. I was shocked that your hotel didn't have them. You operate in Fairbanks, a place that prides itself on its natural beauty; you should be more mindful of the environment.
- Ragine (9/5): - It is comfortable . I have been staying there for year’s
- Keith (8/5): -
- Laurence (8/5): -
- Smith (10/5): Will stay again - I liked the separate living room from the bedroom. Super comfortable just like having your own apartment.
- Rob (4/5): - The rooms didn’t have any kind of locks other than the key card. No deadbolt or additional lock that can only be locked from the inside. One of the beds seemed to be broken and was very lopsided. The bedroom was cramped and the bathroom sink area is open to the bedroom so it was impossible for one person to be up getting ready without waking everyone else up. Kind of expensive for how outdated it was.
- Mark (6/5): -
- WAN NU (8/5): -
- RONALD (7/5): -
- Brandon (9/5): - Great for Christmas party The bed was kinda of hard and pillows were not fluffy.
- Celeste (7/5): Wonderful time at Sophie’s! Restaurant was excellent. Very attentive customer service. - Customer service
Location TVs were old and unable to get good stations or ability to hook up streamline accts.
- Vicki (10/5): Comfortable room. Enjoyed our stay. - The hotel is very comfortable. The suite-type rooms are very nice for longer stays. The fully stocked kitchen was wonderful. The attached restaurant was relaxing and served good food. Can't think of a thing.
- a1tank69 (8/5): Great place to stay in a pinch! - The boiler in our apartment building went out. Got a room at Sophie's quite easily. The staff at check-in was really great! There were a couple of minor things about the room we were in that detracted from our overnight stay but nothing really major, just minor inconveniences. I'd like to be able to say that the "Grab and Go" breakfast was good but it's hours are so limited that I never had the chance to get one! Overall, I'd say that my experience at Sophie's was overall, a fairly good one!

- sharonl280 (10/5): Thank you very much.. - Sophie Station gave us a room for me and my family after coming in from the village and could not get a hold of family, the price was reasonable and lots of room for us, and comfortable settings as well. Thank you to the staff that helped us out when we needed help.
- C8184SMjennifers (10/5): Cozy winter home for a few days - This was my first time here. I had heard from friends that it was a great place to stay.
I love it! It's super homey without being weird. The room has a kitchenette, and the whole thing feels like a small apartment… Plenty of space and comfort.
While hanging out in the lobby, the front desk was nice enough to pop my microwave popcorn for me.
The fitness center is not great. The machines are old, and the elliptical was out of service.
You can't beat the location if you want to be close to a grocery store.
I love the view out the balcony window, looking out onto huge spruce trees with snow-covered boughs.
- Clinton (10/5): - Great The big fridge
- Georgiann (4/5): -
- John (10/5): Clean and friendly place to stay! - All of the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The food at the restaurant was really good with a nice variety of choices. Breakfast included is a grab and go breakfast and I think that should be specified in the description.
- Michael (10/5): - It's like home away from home No dislikes
- Deborah (8/5): It was a nice place for my husband to recover from back surgery! - The staff and location are very nice. The beds were comfortable. The workout room was nice also having a desk was perfect. Thank you The living room seemed dark and a little drab. A light over the chair would be helpful. It would be nice to have some decent sized coffee mugs!
- Jfonoti49 (10/5): Sophie's station, coming back here - I enjoyed staying here. Everything was in order and I had a great time staying there. Would definitely recommend to come back here again!
- 957arnee (10/5): Excellent place to stay - This is a wonderful place to stay! Everything travelers would like: full kitchen, separate bedroom, spacious, well appointed. And very nice staff. Price is also very affordable. I highly recommend sophie station!

- E8529WYtiffanya (2/5): General Manager is a nightmare - My recent stay at Sophie Station was completely ruined by the appalling behavior and customer service provided by the General Manager Kurt. After approaching the front desk and requesting to speak to someone in management regarding an issue in my room, I was told by the staff member they would have to find him. I was met by a man in jeans and a polo who I had to ask him his name, he was not offering an introduction to me. Right from the onset you could see from his demeanor I was an inconvenience, I was an interruption to something more pressing, his attitude was dismissive and frankly, insulting. Instead of a professional who is supposed to represent the hotel's standards, I was met with extreme unprofessionalism.
The manager's body language was a complete failure in hospitality:
He avoided eye contact throughout the entire conversation, preferring to look at the floor as he moved around non-stop as I was trying to talk, or then at the computer screen as he had me walk up to the front desk, not once looking up at me as he spoke or as I spoke to him, completely unprofessional.
He crossed their arms in a defensive posture at one point in the conversation and frequently sighed heavily, as if my simple request was a massive inconvenience.
There was a clear lack of empathy; no smile, no welcoming gesture, just a cold and unwelcoming demeanor that spoke volumes before a single word was even fully processed.
The customer service was equally as bad:
The manager's tone was condescending, and he cut me off multiple times when I tried to explain the situation.
The whole interaction ended with me feeling "emotionally drained and disrespected".
I've stayed in many hotels, but I have never encountered such a lack of basic hospitality, especially from someone in a leadership position. The manager's attitude reflects very poorly on the entire establishment.
I strongly advise prospective guests to think twice before booking here if you value professional service, professionally cleaned rooms, and a welcoming environment. The rest of the staff may be lovely, but this encounter with the GM alone is enough to ensure I will not be returning, and as a State of Alaska employee I will be letting our travel department know of my experience to assure that others in our company can avoid Sophie Station all together!

- AmericanKot (8/5): Spacious Accommodations Complete Kitchen - This is a hotel in an apartment complex. Our unit had a full kitchen with adjoining dining/living areas plus a bedroom and bathroom. All very comfortable. Supermarket is within walking distance, so shopping and cooking is easy. Did have some internet problems. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Expensive.
- Vicki (10/5): Wonderful place - The room was wonderful. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was space to move around. Relaxing couch! so we could both sit and watch tv. Very quiet. Fantastic attached restaurant. The staff was nice, friendly and helpful. Great place

- Z3726AZstevem (2/5): Clean it up - Well with rotting food in the refrigerator I'm quite sure they don't properly clean anything. Was disgusting. Ruined my entire stay as I felt everything I touched must be dirtt.
- Lorraine (10/5): - Everything about our stay was amazing, from the staff, room, amenities. The only one thing I had a problem with is we ate at the restaurant every day and continuously ordered the same menu items but the quantity wasn’t consistent. On one particular dinner experience my son literally only had 2 broccoli crowns and 3 carrot slices for his mixed vegetables with his salmon but the other two nights the same meal came with 5 broccoli crowns, tons of carrots and sliced onions. But I didn’t complain at the time because the flavor was very delicious and staff was amazing. Also I know they’re thinking about doing away with sofa beds but I really wish they would reconsider because that was truly the deciding factor in my decision to stay there. Thanks
- MARIKO (10/5): -
- Jennifer (4/5): - We stayed here previously and staff was amazing, this time not at all. The stays were literally just 5 days apart and this staff was downright rude at best. We had to check in late (around 930pm) because we had been on a tour through the artic circle that lasted all day Whomever checked us in was irritated that she had to help us because the other girl (who had helped us in the previous stay) was busy with another guest. We had told her that when we left previously that we would need a later check out, (as told to us by the other clerk just a few days prior that it wouldn't be any problem because they had very few rooms booked this time of year)
- larrygF5424XH (10/5): Great place to stay - Great place to stay. Staff were kind and helpful. Suites were comfortable, clean and well furnished except the couch and chair in the sitting area were not comfortable.
Location was good but not great for traveling without a car. It was, however, close to the bus route. Busses were free for seniors, a plus, but did not run on the weekend. Not any place to eat close by except for fast food (Taco Bell). Safeway and Meyers were within easy walking distance.
Zach's (restaurant) was nice but only open for supper while we were there. The staff were great. It was a bit noisy if many people were there and the menu were good but limited. I would like to have had more salmon and halibut options.
Breakfast was provided and was ok. Fruit, yogurt, and breakfast burrito to be taken back to our room and heated to eat.
Not much in the way of a lounge in the lobby area for visiting.
It was definitely worth the price.
- Jennifer (10/5): - wonderful staff, on site restaurant only avaliable for dinner but great selections.
- edrH1483IJ (10/5): Fun Comfortable Stay - We enjoyed the room, restaurant and great service overall. Would stay there again! The staff was friendly, helpful and professional.
- Cheryl (7/5): -
- Terry (8/5): -
- Delores (10/5): - Appreciated your knowledgeable, helpful staff. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of your very helpful, considerate front desk person but so appreciated her patience and friendly attitude to an older woman.
- 8vntrer (2/5): Dated, Musty, one star hotel - Dated, musty, one star hotel in remote location
Our tour took us here and most of us were shocked at the caliber of this hotel. Looked like nothing had been updated since the 70’s including beds, bedding and bathrooms. We had to ask for air freshener our room stunk so much. They claimed it was due to a guest cooking ?
Minimal bar, restaurant options, except over priced breakfast buffet.
Do not recommend. Many better options
- samanthatW6940SE (10/5): Fabulous comfortable experience - My husband and I stayed at Sophie for our vacation this fall. It was beautiful. The room was great. The bathroom was absolutely my favorite. We booked a room with a jacuzzi tub, but the shower was also a dream. Two showerheads made for the most indulgent showers. The staff was very nice and the outside of the hotel was beautiful and clean. I loved the flowers and hanging baskets. The location is great too. It's close to many of the activities we chose to do as well as the airport and train station. I would definitely stay here again.
- Darlene (9/5): -
- U1870MAdouglasg (4/5): Nope! - The room smelled horrible. The future was way dated and uncomfortable. The bed lacked any support and felt like the cheapest you could get. My coworkers room were the same. At least the staff was nice.
- Patricia (6/5): -
- Melissa (6/5): - This hotel was close and walking distance to the grocery store and coffee shops. The rooms were dated, adequate, spacious but dirty. At least 2 inches of dust around all the baseboards- seemingly only cleaned where a vacuum could reach. Full kitchen was a plus but when we went to take a shower the drains were clogged. On our first night of three at Sophie Station the front desk staff (I don’t remember the ladies name) acted like she was annoyed when we checked in. She gave us the complete feeling we were interrupting her “cell phone” time. She didn’t greet us when we got to the front desk and never did smile once. Disappointing .
- Mihara (10/5): -
- Scott (7/5): nice, but expensive - The regular breakfast was very good.
Would not do the buffet, cost. Wi Fi, daily check on coffee and towels
- Ramanan (5/5): Not bad. - The space. The Wi-Fi signal was extremely weak, and I was barely able to access the internet during my stay. The TV needs a significant upgrade; currently, you have to hold the remote pointing directly at the receiver to remotely control it. The AC is also very old, and the noise from the fan made it difficult to sleep.
- 826maryannj (10/5): Thank you - I Slept good. Nice and quiet and clean. I like staying here, friendly staff at front desk. And if I wanted to I can cook a meal for myself instead of ordering in
- Danielle (4/5): - The staff was not friendly or knowledgeable. They were unable to assist or answer questions about traveling in the area. There were room service trays and debris in the hallways that were left for the duration of our stay
- Tammy (1/5): If you book with a third-party. The hotel won't accommodate your requests. - Nice hotel The fact that I have minor limitations, and I had requested a room close to the entrance. And I had the farthest room at the hotel..
- FNU (9/5): -
- Kristina Mom (8/5): Great place to sleep at night when traveling around. - Super close to the airport but not TOO close to the airport. No outdoor noise when windows were closed. kitchen was well appointed and they were quick to bring up items if needed. Bathroom set up was good (yay no barn door.) AC worked well. Cruise Ships and Tour Groups are priority number one. The loading area for the buses/Motor coaches were parked idling RIGHT UNDER our balcony (also very close to the restaurant patio.) If you have coaches, have them idle at the end, and bring them up to the front when ready, or turn them off until ready. The diesel smell and noise was not pleasant when trying to have fresh air or dine outside.
- Miriam (7/5): Everyone was nice but it was really old, needs to be updated. The rooms were extremely hot, the ac only worked in the ro - Location was good Very old
- Eric (5/5): - Nice to have a functional kitchen. Uncomfortable bed and furniture. The place felt tired and out of date.
- Diane (8/5): Very good -
- R7676UKtonij (10/5): Super good - It was very good. The pillows and bed where super comfy. It was quite very reasonable relaxing. It was very nice. It was clean. It was the best experience I ever had.
- Alberta (10/5): - Great, large apartment style room
- Charles (10/5): - Great location and the room was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Would definitely recommend!!
- Sally (8/5): - The room was clean but no maid service for at least a four day stay. The temperature in the room was extremely difficult to control—- very, very warm and only one a/c in the bedroom. Sitting room was uncomfortably warm. Granted the weather was warm outside, but there was little ventilation possibilities.
- D3684QDrobinf (2/5): Unfortunately this hotel really smells of smoke. Unacceptable given the expense. - The rooms reek of smoke. Carpet is old and dirty. They need to replace the 40 plus year old carpet if they want to charge this kind of money.
Unacceptable and would definitely not recommend for the money.
Location is okay.
Rooms are large.
Definitely don’t sleep on couch.
- Anelys (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (7/5): Good - No Out dated for price
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ken (10/5): - Hotel was everything you could ask for. The suites were wonderful
- Therese (6/5): - I’m so torn on this review. I called the hotel for their free shuttle service and asked if we could be picked up at the airport and was met with a heavy sigh and “uhhh, maybe. Hold on.” I was nervous that they wouldn’t get us based on the annoyed tone. They did send the shuttle and the driver was great. When we got there I asked if early check-in was possible and the same girl from the phone smirked and said “probably not.” She then said it would be $54 to check in early. This policy is not her fault, but she wasn’t friendly either. I realize nobody is guaranteed free or early check-in, but I have never come across a hotel that wouldn’t just let you check in before 4pm when the room was ready. Which it was. But only for a cost? The room itself was $386/night, which I think is on the high end and not amazing considering the dated nature. One bed was comfortable and one bed felt like a 900lb man was jumping on it for a year (room 147 bed by the bathroom - try it you’ll see). Pillows were great. It was truly super clean. All of the other staff during our stay were lovely. The lounge was tasty, but only had one server for the whole place, so it took us 1.5 hours to get drinks and a few appetizers, but that wasn’t her fault. So I’m torn. 95 % great humans and really great things about the hotel, but also way too overpriced for the brown decor of the 80’s, an unfriendly start, and that bed! It’s also in a not charming area between grocery stores. Convenient yet unappealing.
- Cheryl (8/5): Pleasant comfortable stay - Suite plenty of room. Storage shuttle to and from train and plane electric kettle and actual coffee maker! Pleasant staff Location was not special. Decor was very brown.
- Jacob (10/5): - We always enjoy staying at Sophie’s station. The home like rooms are perfect for our family.
- Greg (10/5): - Friendly staff and good food.
