Window was very dirty. The room and outside needs painted. Will not recommend to anyone. Stay away…..

Joel (8/5): - The person at the front desk is who I believe who the was the owner, was awesome and very friendly. The rooms are huge but are in need of some updating which is to be expected staying in a hotel in a small town right off the highway. The breakfast was good. We had initially reserved for two days due to a work project. The project was completed in two days so asked if we could get out of the second night. The owner was very nice and let us out of the second night of stay. Most hotels will not let you do that. Although the hotel needs some update, I would stay here again just because of the convenience of where we were at and the hospitality that was given to us.

Julie (4/5): Walnut Econolodge: Needs Help - The Econolodge has an overall unpleasant smell. My sister and I came to shop the antique stores. She found a vape and a dirty sock in the headboard of her bed. The coffee was empty at 9:00 AM. The couple running it were nice enough, it just really needs a refresh. Not a place I’d ever stay again.

Bathroom clean just a little old. All functional well. Close to downtown walnut if you like antiques. Hotel is excellent value if you want clean quiet affordable place. Only item was guest in next room playing guitar until 10pm then started again at 6am. But I woke up then but still, odd behavior so sound insulation is as expected.

Martin (6/5): - This place has a few things going for it. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was adequate. Unfortunately, this property is dated and there is a lack of regular upkeep. The doorframes and bathroom door were filthy, the hall and stairway carpets were old, worn, and dirty, and the furniture in the lounge was old and gross. Two queen beds barely fit in my room. There was a small table, two chairs, and a dresser crammed into a corner, no space to use them. If not for the comfortable bed this would be a lower rating.
Carl (8/5): Decent value for one night - This motel offers rooms that are clean and have basic amenities at a reasonable price. My own room had some maintenance defects that should have been corrected, most notably a hole in the wall and some peeling paint in the bathroom. My room was on the second floor, accessible only by rather steep stairs with soiled carpeting. And the man who checked me in was not particularly friendly, perhaps because he did was not fluent in English (which is spoken by most people in Iowa). The room included a small refrigerator and a microwave oven, which worked OK except that the room lighting was so dim that I could not read the control panel on the microwave. The flat screen TV with cable worked well. A limitation is that the town of Walnut is so small that the only food available is at the travel plaza across the road from the motel. But overall it is a decent value for getting one good night's sleep without frills, including a basic continental breakfast in the morning.
