Guest Reviews
- ellen (10/5): - Beautiful view, lovely holiday decor, and many fabulous amenities for families with children.
- Susan (10/5): - The state park is beautiful with excellent walking. The lodge is comfortable with great views from the rooms, and the restaurant has good service and good food. It was a delightful stay and I can't wait to go back!
- Virginia (10/5): - This was the nicest lodge within a state park that we have ever stayed at and we have stayed at many. The multiple amenities were awesome. We loved walking on the boardwalk trails and the concrete trails next to Lake Erie. This would be the perfect place for a family reunion in the summer. We hope to have one there in the future.
- Theodore (10/5): A relaxing weekend with plenty to explore! - We come here once a year, usually in the fall. The hotel and entire property have a resort feel. Outdoor and indoor pools with splash pad, wetlands boardwalk, Lake Erie beach and inland beach… and the giant steps leading down to the lake are all awesome. Service at the hotel it’s also fantastic. The restaurant, while not off the charts, is still better than most hotels. We love it here!
- Daria (10/5): - We really like the park and the lodge. Everyone is very friendly and professional, all the walking paths are accessible and well maintained. We had a great stay!
- Adrienne F. (4/5): - We booked a lake view room with two queen sized beds. The view we got was of the playground and pool and the beds were smaller than queen sized. While true that If you were close enough to the window and turned your head one could see the lake, that’s best described as an obscured view and not what I thought we were getting. Front desk, who generally had an unfriendly vibe, indicated that the hotel didn’t have what it considered partial views; this is what I call a bait and switch tactic. They declined to move us and disputed that the beds weren’t queen size. Bar and restaurant staff were great; all interactions with them were friendly and helpful. Food was tasty—in particular the salmon entree and the chicken tenders. Ice cream bar was fun. But overall the place had a weird unfriendly vibe.
- Belinda Renee (10/5): - The grounds on the property were beautiful. So diverse. A walking path next to lake Erie and around interior lakes with beaches and boardwalks through the woods/wetlands where wildlife is plentiful.
Awesome stay! I would highly recommend a visit!
- Kendra (2/5): - The property is wonderful, the hotel is terrible.
- Joyce (8/5): - It was very nice
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great time with my parents!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The site is gorgeous! The lake and beaches etc - the buildings and amenities were not updated and/or cleaned. Pool was ok.The staff not really friendly. But the restaurant was horrible! Tried breakfast and dinner. We had to go out each meal and that was ok but disappointing. Maybe all because of Covid and will give it another try as years back we had a wonderful experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms were very clean. The balcony was not.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great resort! Lots to do and super friendly staff!
- Paula (8/5): Updates inside the lodge! - Bathrooms all updated and room amenities as well.
The air conditioner in our room was very loud. We recorded it and shared with the front desk. They promptly relocated us to another room.
- Lisa (10/5): - Wonderful. Would recommend for sure! Check in ran about one hour behind. Room wasn’t ready til 5:00. Some things can’t be helped. We had a great time. We’ll be back!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The restaurant was unclean. We were seated in a corner table with visible dirt and flies. The server made the excuse that when you're at the lake you'll have flies. She would not relocate us and we were seated inside, not at a picnic table. No excuse for that filth.just sad and disappointing.
- Sarah (8/5): Will return to this lovely spot - Stayed here years ago, and was eager to revisit with friends. Everyone enjoyed their stay and loved the daily kid activities. The facility seemed understaffed, our rooms were not ready until an hour after check in time. Despite this we will return to this lovely spot.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The views were outstanding. Grounds were well kept.
- Carol (10/5): Great place to stay - Wonderful stay. Really enjoyed the nature boardwalk hike and the paths on the lake shore. The room was superb - especially the new showers - and if you like fresh air, the windows/balcony doors can stay open!
- Karen (6/5): Questionable! - Didn’t get a room with a lake view as was supposed to be with Hotels.com. When I asked she said they could move me for an additional amount - uh no! We were in a room right above or below the laundry and our room “vibrated” all day when washers were spinning! Very noisey! Also, tv worked first night but once it was turned off it never came back on. Not happy with this stay this time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We really love this area. We are birders and this area has the best birding around during spring migration. The lodge is very pretty and welcoming. The room was very nice and we had a balcony with a beautiful view of the water. The bathrooms have been upgraded since we last stayed there. The walk-in shower is really nice. The only thing we did not like are the beds. The mattresses are not very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved our mini vacation at the Lodge. We will be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Right on Lake Erie! View was incredible.
- Amber (10/5): - Everything was great this stay! Weather was beautiful so we enjoyed the grounds, walking trails and nature boardwalk!
The only thing was the in room safe was again (same issue last stay, different room) not working. Wish those were fixed or updated.
Food was good. Room was clean/comfy. Pool was nice, not crowded.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful setting!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The lodge was very peaceful and had wonderful views of lake Erie.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had an enjoyable stay. Beautiful view, grounds, and trails. Wonderful amenities - very family friendly. The hotel could use some updating, the menu was limited, and some inconsistencies - maybe COVID-19 related. But, would definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We had to wait almost a half an hour for our room to be done, even though check in was at 4:00. And then when we got to our room, the woman was still cleaning. The hallways were filthy, they looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in awhile. Then we were told that there was no air conditioning available because their”chiller” hadn’t been turned on yet because normally it wasn’t warm at this time of year. The whole property looked like it needed a facelift. Peeling paint, mildew areas, etc. Overall a very disappointing experience. We will not be returning
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is in a wonderful state park on Lake Erie. There are lots of activities for families, including 2 pools, racquetball court, playground, volleyball pit, indoor play area, lots of paths, a basic restaurant and bar, and a terrific natural wetland with a boardwalk where you can see wonderful wild birds and muskrats right near you. It is not very far to other great parks and nature preserves. They were a good job compensating for the pandemic for the most part. I would suggest that you bring an extra blanket, though. The staff was very friendly and courteous.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We felt safe in a pandemic here. Registration to use the pool was simple and the parties in there stayed in their respective groups. No one likes the restrictions the pandemic has called for, but the staff and facility did a great job! Thanks for a great stay, clean room and luxurious shower!
- Karen Lynn (10/5): This is a keeper. - Very comfortable. Very convenient to many outdoor activities and a short drive to Toledo and Sandusky. We are so happy with our stay and plan to return.
- Adam (10/5): pleasantly surprised - I came here as a child when it was basically brand new and it was fantastic. I decided to take my family back a few years ago and I was so disappointed. It felt dirty and there were no updates whatsoever. I decided to give it one more try and thank goodness I did. The rooms had been updated, everything felt clean.... and the shower!!! holy cow. Now with all this being said... it's a lodge, not the ritz. If you really want to find imperfections you will. If you are a snob and can only stay in 5 star hotels and resorts, then don't come unless you are ready to accept the fact that you are staying in a state park lodge. It is a beautiful place to relax and many thing to entertain all ages. I highly recommend booking this place... unless you're a petty, rich snob.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful resort. Wish bar hours and gift shop hours were extended
- Janet (10/5): - We greatly enjoy the indoor pool. The water was warm. Admission was limited to 15 per hour, but the maximum number in the pool while we were there was 9. Staff counted the parents sitting beside the pool in the 15 count limit.
- Adam (8/5): - It brought back good memories growing up in the area. We enjoyed our stay
- Amber (10/5): - Room was clean, comfortable. Patio lock was not great and screw falling out. Room safe did not work with key card or code. Door took at least 3 tries swiping before opening. TV wasn't working but maintenance came quickly to resolve.
Had nice breakfast (not included) 2 days and it was good!
Property is beautiful, boardwalk trail and lake trail are lovely.
Staff friendly and helpful. I witnessed a lot of cleaning.
Pool was open at lower capacity, due to covid. Splash pad off while we stayed during the week, but on when we left Sat morning, I guess you get more amenities if you stay on the weekend?
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quick Getaway - The grounds are gorgeous. You got the Bay, beaches, and walking/biking paths. It was quiet during our stay which is what we wanted.
- Karen (10/5): - Room was comfortable and spacious. Very clean. Only thing was we didn’t get the lake view we paid for.
- Dwayne (10/5): safe vacation - Clean room especially during the pandemic. Best shower I’ve ever experienced. They remodeled The rooms and the shower is awesome. Great food even though I took it to my room to eat. I love being close to the beach since I’m trying to avoid crowds.
- Rhatosha (10/5): Awesomely refreshing - Amazing, peaceful and just nice
- Monika (10/5): - Maumee Bay Resort was wonderful place to stay.
Location is great, on the edge of the state park. Accommodations, staff all great.
- A.S. (6/5): - Check in is @ 4pm, our room wasn't ready until 5:30. We are understanding when things don't happen on time but communication goes a long way. No one knew how long the wait was going to be, it was suggested that we wander around and check back every 15 minutes or so. This would have been fine if they were running behind a half hour or so, but not an hour . Some people have to carry medications that need climate control or computers, that can't be left in a hot car. These things can get really cumbersome when you're wandering around with them. A resolution to this entire thing would have been to offer to call when the room was ready. My phone number was with them, this would have given us a better idea of what we needed do. When we finally got to check into the room, a weak apology was all that is offered. I'm not a person who is going to ask for a freebie, but it would have been a good chance to be like...here's a free hour on the paddle boats, bikes, etc that no one is using on us?
So we get to the room finally, we enjoy the property and decide to visit the onsite restaurant. The food and service was mediocre. You would expect more from the starting prices on the menu.
The following morning we get a knock on our door at 10am (check out is @11) from housekeeping wanting to shoo us out and clean the room for the next guest. At that point we decided to call our little getaway over, check out.
The property is lovely and well maintained, but we won't be back.
- Teresa (8/5): Nice 2 day stay! - Beautiful location with Lake Erie right out your back door! Nice beach that you could walk to from the Lodge. Restaurant was just ok and not many places to eat nearby.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - So much to do within walking distance. A beach, a swamp, golf, pool. Also a great place for kids.
- Kenedra (10/5): - The resort was amazing on Lake Erie. Quiet and clean, and very friendly service. Can’t wait to return.
- VincentWirtner (10/5): - Great place to visit lots of outdoor activities for all age groups.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing oppotunity - This facility is amazing. cant wait to return when covid restrictions are lifted.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Large property, spring and summer and fall stays would be better with all the outdoor activities. But be on the lookout for all the extra charges like beautification tax at the restaurant and local restaurant charged for ice in a drink from the bar.
- Don (6/5): - Place is a bit dated and not a great value for a winter visit. It might be better in summer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - There are many areas of the lodge to hang out with friends with cozy fireplaces and chair/couch groupings. We enjoy a friends weekend every year and bring food/snacks and sit around a fireplace area. The staff is very accommodating.
- Lisa (10/5): Loved it! - Loved the beautiful room with a view and the modern bathroom!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had a view of Lake Erie that was truly dramatic and spectacular as the weather changed from sunny and warm to chill to stormy. The walk along the lake was wonderful!
- Joy (6/5): - Great location, activities, room was noisy...refrigerator knocked during night, noise from other rooms, and heating system like loud engine. Overall, a pleasant stay minus the sleep time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very attractive surroundings on exterior as well as interior. Good meals in restaurant. Must admit for a first class hotel charging for water bottles used in room kind of a surprise.
- Jay (8/5): - Very well kept but smelled in hallways and rooms.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was so helpful and friendly. We made a last minute change to our room and they got the new room ready in no time
- Nicehotel (10/5): - We liked it because of A lot of different activities to do on the premise. Rooms were nice and indoor pool made it even nicer.
- Nora (8/5): Clean the tub. - Tub was dirty in the corners which could have been scrubbed better. The room refrigerator was barely cool
So my dinner left overs were ruined by morning and the bedspread is terrible cheap. I was in Room 311 I believe.
- Laura j. (10/5): Highly Recommended - This is a great resort, especially for people who love the outdoors, or for families. There are activities every day. The resort is located within a state park. There is hiking, a nature center nearby, and bike rentals available on the property. The restaurants have decent food, the prices are reasonable. The only downside was the condition of the lake, and some biting insects after dark. The resort has two nice pools, one indoors and one out, along with a splash pad and two hot tubs. Near the indoor pool is a play area for small kids, and an arcade. Plenty of cozy corners are available for quiet talks or playing games. The resort shows a movie each evening. There’s lots to keep kids occupied.
- Jeff (10/5): - Great resort, pools were clean and the ground were nice and well kept.
Restaurants were priced well and quality food right at the resort. Rooms were clean, bed was comfy and staff was helpful and kind.
Great place to relax and explore the area surrounding it
- William (6/5): Disappointed. Beautiful setting but Lodge needs re - Beautiful property, but lodge itself needs renovated. Really outdated. Rooms need updated. Disappointed at check in as we were told there were no rooms available on 1st floor yet there appeared to be very few guests on Thursday evening and we only stayed 1 night. Then, when given a room on the 2nd floor we weren’t even given a room with a lake view.
Breakfast took forever and while it was priced very reasonably, the food was average at best.
This property is in a beautiful setting but the lodge itself needs improvements.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place but we had to leave a day early emergency
- Verified traveler (8/5): - good stay dinner room excellent grounds kept up wells building itself looks like it need some painting. Water was slow running out of tub and sinks
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful resort on the lake with a nice outdoor and inside pool. Lots of things to do including sand volleyball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, indoor racquetball & wallyball courts. Great get-a-way if you are looking for some fun family time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location was fantastic. Facility needs updating. Price was high.
- Jack (10/5): - Fantastic location! We enjoyed everything! Close to Toledo, Detroit, and Lake Erie Islands too!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved that it has a lot to offer it’s guests, needs more marine things like jet skis and small motor boat rentals, also think it would be a great place for Segway rental tours.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Two Thumbs Up - All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, ready to provide any item or information we needed. Service in the Water's Edge Restaurant was great and the prices were reasonable. This is a family friendly place with lots of activities in the lodge and at the park, and lots of kids running around. I would definitely recommend to stay at the lodge not only for the beautiful natural surroundings, but also the friendly service and amenities at your fingertips.
- SANTIAGO (6/5): - The AC in the room was not working we called down to the front desk they never got back to us. My girlfriend went down to talk to them they never sent anybody. So we had to go down there a second time then they called maintenance. The maintenance guy busted his butt trying to do everything to fix it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - they had no record of my reservation. i had to contact expedia and visa to prove that i had a reservation
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location was great. Great bike paths, trails and easy access to the beach.
The facility is old. Part of the walls are coming off in certain areas, bugs by the light fixtures in the lodge, and there was a bird in the restaurant during breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lots of activities for family. The pools were the best. Beautiful surroundings.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Enjoyed the lodge... even when it was raining, several things to do inside.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Grady pool for the kids. Play area and arcade! Such a beautiful well maintained lawn
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Boardwalk. Did not like that there was so much fried food on the menu.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Seems like a great place for family with kids. Food options are limited
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice property. Could be much better with more concentration on services and property maintenance
- Don (10/5): - Great stay, liked the pool and hot tub. Enjoyed the birding displays.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - They hadn't turned on the A/C. It got warm in the room at night. Unsafe to open the sliding door. Otherwise I l8ve Ohio State Park Lodges.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bathrooms out dated and shower didnt drain, pillows fluffy and you get 4 yippy but when you lay your head on them your head sinks to the bed anyway ,
- Ida (10/5): - Wonderful place to get away from the noise of the city. Very clean and adventurous
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location, peaceful, enjoyed area. Staff was great, restaurant has great food and options.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A nice place - I was there for a conference. The service was wonderful and check in was a breeze. The facilities are nice and the public areas are very nice. The room was okay. It was worn and needed some care.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Love the play area/arcade/pool but everything is getting run down. The kids sprinkler area barely puts any water out, construction going on so it was dirty and very loud. The rooms need a facelift. Room 211 is extremely hot because it’s above the laundry area so we had to sleep w door open-not very safe
- Marlene (8/5): - very good, except the dining room food was not that great. We had dinner and breakfast and it was just okay.
- michelle (10/5): New Years Getaway - We stayed here for 2 days over New Years as a getaway and had family and friends come here from Cleveland, Columbus and the Toledo area. This has become a tradition. The resort has an abundance of things to do with special activities for kids and family during the holiday. They have special movies, disc jockey to bring in the new year, with a dance floor, and a small reptile exhibit to name of a few. Great place to bring in the new year. Would love to see a small continental breakfast, like donuts, bagels, juice, etc... Would be worth a small up charge. Be sure to book early as the rooms sell out. Will book again next year.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place - our room was too hot called front desk - told us to open the deck door to cool off room. Not really what should have been told.
- JENNIFER (8/5): Fun but pricey for the condition - The Room was a little outdated for the price in my opinion. Beds Are very comfortable and plenty of pillows. There was plenty for the kids to do they stayed entertained and were content. They swam, sat in a hot tub, there was a sana, they played racquetball, volleyball, And they did not use it but there was a small children's area and an arcade.
Our Room was out of soap and did not have trash bags. I did like that they implement lots of recycling and conservation efforts. The fire places were beautiful and since it was very cold out it was nice to sit at a fireplace.
- Sharon (10/5): - Love being on the bay and the lakeview...everyone was very nice and we enjoyed ourselves. Great place for a family celebration!
- Jan (10/5): - we always enjoy staying at MBSP.
- mark (10/5): Beautiful location the facility needs some tlc - The setting is beautiful. The bathroom tub faucet has been worked on too many times n s/b replaced n the tub water stopper did not work
- Scott (10/5): - Great place. Full of all sorts of activities. Swimming, racquetball, fitness, hiking, etc.
- James K (6/5): Meh. - We were greeted at the desk with a $420 security hold on our credit card. When told that that was excessive on a prepaid reservation, the staff lied to me and told me they would remove it. They never did. I have never had or heard of this kind of a hold before. The rooms were okay, but the 1990 styling was dated for the price we paid. Things like pump bottle soap and shampoo gave it a real institutional feel. We paid for a lake view room. If I stood on the balcony and looked around the divider I could see the lake. More of a peek-a-boo view to me.
overall a C- based on the price for what you received. We won't be back.
- DW (2/5): Shameful - Our stay at the Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center was negative from the start.
At Check-In, the front desk attendant did not have our reservations on file, even after showing the HOTEL.COM confirmation.
Once we settled that issue, we went to our assigned room (217) at the far end of the second floor. The television and the internet did not work. A very courteous attendant came to the room and identified that the television was a 3-4 step procedure that was not clearly explained in the set-up literature. He was able to start the television, but the internet would not connect to our Apple devices.
We were attending an event in the hotel, and I took a quick, short, shower. The drain was clogged and the tub began to fill rapidly. Under those circumstances, my wife was not able to take a shower.
After our event, we needed to walk outside to retrieve a couple items from the trunk of our car. There were four parking lot lights, but they did not illuminate the puddles enough to avoid them.
Finally, in the morning I called to check out and was told that I needed to come to the front desk and pay our $146.ºº hotel bill. When I got to the front desk, I was told it was an error made by the check-in attendant, and that we had a zero balance.
- Drew (10/5): - Great place for families with young children!!!!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The area is beautiful, but little has been done to maintain the property. The room & hallways were dirty. The Bathroom had black mold and a hair clogged tub that took 2 calls to get corrected. The waitress was horrible! I've never had to deal with so much at this price. Save money and visit the park for free.
- Mike (10/5): - Comfortable rooms with lakeview and small patio. Lots of activifies. Extensive nature trail.
- Cathy (10/5): - There is something for everyone here as well as provisions for the disabled. Wonderful activities for kids ( staff run), and friendly, helpful staff in all areas. It's a great resort!
- Kevin (8/5): - We loved the property. Great boardwalk through the wetlands, bicycle rental, and the pool were the highlights. Lake Erie with its algae and bacteria warnings was the lowlight. The great service and friendly staff made up for the lake conditions. This is one of the best lodges in Ohio.
