The room is really nice, the staff is super friendly and the restaurant was awesome. Main feature is of course the Grand Canyon right outside the front door. Perfect!

The restaurant food was well beyond expectation for a national park hotel, and the service of the staff at breakfast was exceptional. Hard to beat being able to see the canyon outside our window and step outside to the edge at sunrise!

• Mark (4/5): - We arrived with 4 cases and they put us on the top floor no elevators, me and my wife are in our 60s, the bell hop took one look at our cases and frowned and decided to offer his help to a young girl in her 20s who had 1 small case terrible sevice. the Hotel is very old and very expensive for what it is your paying for the location. would i stay again no!!
• Richard and Mindy (10/5): - My wife and I were taking a trip of a lifetime and decided to spring for almost a thousand bucks to stay in this convenient and iconic hotel. The check in experience was great and the accommodations were as expected for such an old property. My issue relates to the dinner reservation we made two weeks before we arrived. We really wanted to sit near the windows in the dining room and stopped by the restaurant desk earlier in the day to ask for this accommodation. It was noted, so when we arrived, it was a bit surprising that the young desk clerk seemed reluctant to reassign our table, but did find us a table near the windows. We sat and observed the fact that two window tables were unassigned…and we were one of a very few patrons in there at the time. After being waited on, we observed another couple was being seated near us, but they asked to have one of the tables at the window and they were moved. I was sorely disappointed at this outcome … it seemed that our wishes weren’t even considered, but if we had raised the question, we may have gotten a coveted spot. Frankly it ruined my $200+ meal…and (sorry for the pun) left a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll never be able to make this trip again, so I’ll never get to experience the dream of sitting at a canyon-view window. But I hope the staff can learn to be more attentive, especially when making accommodations for other folks in similar situations but not for us, made me feel unwelcome.

• Alfred (8/5): - Can’t beat the location. Extremely easy to walk the south rim trails from this location in the cool of morning, before the crowds arrive.
• Dennis (10/5): - El Tovar is a landmark and historical site. Watching the sunset and sunrise was magical. The food in El Tovar dining room was excellent we had Cobb salad and filet dinners and it was on par with anywhere.

• Barbara (10/5): Modest room in a unique historical hotel at S Rim - We enjoyed our stay in the El Tovar Hotel for its unique historical ambience and exceptional location across from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The queen bed room was expensive but not great. The decor was quite modest, the mattress was too soft, the AC not very effective and loud, there weren't enough electrical outlets, and the TV picture was grainy. However, the bathroom was a generous size with appealing retro black and white tiles and the shower was great.
• eugene (4/5): - Food options were good. The room was awful. The AC broke. The window was broken. The AC was noisiest I have ever experienced. Plus there was no way to deflect thevair coming out,... the deflector was bolted. There is only ONE plug in the room and was being used by a lamp abd coffee maker. The safe is mounted so high up that you can barely reach it.

• Melanie (6/5): Just OK, consider other options - Our stay here was just OK - we weren’t made to feel particularly welcome, which given this is likely a trip of a lifetime to the Grand Canyon was a shame. We really disliked our evening meal in the restaurant. It was overpriced and was not fine dining. We preferred our lunch in the Bright Angel lodge next door. This was the single most expensive nights accommodation on our trip to the US and it wasn’t worth it, not really. The room and beds were fine, it just wasn’t the special stay we were expecting.

With that being said the view was spectacular! Our access to the canyon view, which is ultimately what we came for, was very convenient. Overall very happy because we got what we came for.

The hotel store was supposed to open at 8am—we arrived right at opening to grab water for a hike, but it didn’t open until 8:45, and the front desk offered no real solution. WiFi didn’t work in our room, and we were told to call tech support ourselves. The AC was loud and the display light was so bright it lit up the entire room, making it hard to sleep. I got sick after a hike (totally my fault for overdoing it), but when my son tried to get food to-go from the restaurant, they refused. No room service, no flexibility, no support. For the price, I expected better. The bellhop was wonderful, but that was the only highlight. Would not stay again.
• Alexandra (4/5): - The hotel is in a magnificent location with commanding views of the Grand Canyon. The owners have failed to invest in maintaining the property, whilst enjoying the high prices people are prepared to pay for staying in such a desirable location. The accommodation standard is that of a cheap motel you stay in as a student or out of desperation- 1950s decor with air-conditioning dated from about the same time-- so noisy, sleep was impossible. Booked for 2 nights but could only stand to stay 1 night. Was supposed to be the highlight of a 2 week holiday but was a heartbreaking disappointment.
• Graham (8/5): Historical hotel with friendly staff - A nice historical hotel with a good restaurant and friendly staff. Very close to the edge of the Grand Canyon and amazing views. I'd stay there again.
• Quinzy (2/5): - Honestly, recommend staying elsewhere. This place is in dire need of a renovation. Wouldn’t stay there again. Staff was nice but the rooms are two costly for what you actually get.
• maryfrances (4/5): - This is a classic property with the most amazing views as a Grand Canyon right out the front door. Other than the older lady working the front desk who was extremely helpful and had obviously been there for years, the young staff was utterly useless. My room had old use soap with hair on it and hair in the bathtub. The nightstand was covered in sticky grossness with garbage underneath it. When I told the front desk, she asked me, “so you’re asking for a full clean?“ when I came back six hours later, my room was still not cleaned. The coffee inevitably ran out multiple times every morning . When I brought a coffee cup to the host, there’s a sign next to the coffee saying the host could offer specialty coffee for a price,and asked him to fill it up he looked at me with disgust then went back and got it and then instead of handing it to me set it on a display table across from me. It was actually comical. He was so miserable. Again the older woman at the front desk was great, the manager was nice. The rest of the staff was useless and would not go so much is a half a step out of their way to help you. It was dirty, it was outdated, it was overpriced. The lights flickered when you turn them on and the hallways are reminiscent of “The Shining.” The air conditioning was straight out of the 1970s and every time it turned on which was at least once an hour, it was so loud it startled me out of my sleep. This hotel has so much potential. It has great history. It’s truly a shame.

• John (10/5): - This place dates from 1910 or so. We got one of the old and totally refurbished rooms all done in period style. View of the canyon from the patio bar or the inside bar. You are fifteen steps from the rim railing. This is the historic hotel at the end of the rail line from Williams. Nothing better than rubbing elbows with the ghosts of America’s historical leaders and legends.

• giovanni (4/5): - Historic atmosphere, but disappointing comfort and food. The hotel has undeniable charm, with an iconic historic atmosphere and friendly, professional staff. However, the experience is severely undermined by several issues: – The restaurant is a disaster: food is poorly cooked, extremely overpriced, and no menu or pricing is visible before entering. Definitely not up to the expectations of an establishment of this level. – Rooms are outdated and unacceptably noisy, especially due to the old air conditioning system, which makes sleeping difficult. One night might be tolerable for the location and view — more than that becomes a struggle.

• Maritsa (8/5): - Would have given it a five but for the air conditioner, The property was very nice. We enjoyed our stay. The air conditioner was really loud, and I mean, really loud. It was hard to sleep with it on. We had to turn the temperature up close to 80 at night so that it wouldn’t turn on or at least turn on very little because when it did turn on the rumbling that it made kicking on was incredibly loud. It woke both of us up. But for that air conditioner, we would’ve had amazing sleep. The restaurant was absolutely wonderful! Breakfast was superb! Dinner was amazing! Our room was very clean. The bathroom with its fresh towels was wonderful.
• Haig (8/5): - Even though the properties location is great, there were other lodge nearby in the park that were also walking distance from trails and such. We were also looking forward to our reservations at the restaurant on the premises but this was very far from “fine dining”. Not only did we not finish our dinner, unfortunately was not worth the save. Overall a good experience because we made it but the hype is not necessary. (Can’t say it’s worth the price they charge.)

• Aaron (8/5): - We loved the exclusive feel of this location with its rich history and complete uniqueness. The views are second to none. The wildlife around the hotel early in the morning added to the awesomeness of this place. We only had to minor complaints the 1st being coffee. Many people were up early (5am), and we were all looking for coffee that would not come out until 6am. The second complaint was the TV. After a long day of walking/hiking/exploring we just wanted to lay down and watch something. The channels were very limited and all had poor reception resulting in a fuzzy screen.

• Carole (8/5): - The most wonderful thing about El Tovar was that it overlooks the Grand Canyon the location you can’t beat, but unfortunately, when we arrived, we were told to make a reservation at the restaurant because it gets busy and we couldn’t get anything on till 8:45 because I don’t have enough staff to accommodate everybody that was staying there maybe because it was off-seasonso we had to eat elsewhere Our rooms were very small, but that was to be expected because it’s an older hotel but beautifully appointed unfortunately the bathroom toilet kept running all night long so it was hard to sleep. I did let them know in the morning. Hopefully they fixed it.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Close to Grand Canyon, but needs updated hotel - Liked that the hotel was right in the National Park, but the rooms were very small, the stairs were hard to navigate, and we were on the 3rd floor and moving luggage was hard without an elevator. The rooms being small meant it was hard to take out clothes from the luggage. It needed a bigger desk to place stuff including our computers and the coffee machine within the room. The TV was all analog channels, so no HD! If we were paying so much money, you'd think the hotel would be better. On the plus side, great views of the Canyon, and easy to find places to eat/drink nearby. Also easy to get to the shuttles and was right next to the Angel trail for one of our hiking days.

Easily scored a parking spot right in front. No need to leave this spot while you are here. So glad this room came up and didn’t stay in Tusayan. Been wanting to stay here ever since I saw Clark W. Griswold rob the desk clerk in vacation.

For people that are not able to do stairs, this is not the place for them. We love the location but for $500 a night I would have thought it would have been updated. Also the AC/heat system was also very noisy.

• jane (8/5): - Greeters excellent with orientation- we wanted to be inside the park and El Tovar met our needs perfectly- the line can be long to enter the park so we chose to be inside where we only had one day/night there and we drove the south rim route-last day of Feb is deadline for individual driving around the rim to the scenic spots before the shuttle becomes the only option march 1st- saw the planets aligned at night and dinner in-house was good- very expensive but decent- very nice servers dining- no elevators but they are there to help if needed- we just consolidated stuff into overnight bag for our 1 night stay- its nice to stay there-
• Cara (4/5): - The restaurant and waitstaff were excellent; reservations are required. The key selling point (Grand Canyon view just outside) did not disappoint. The room was very uncomfortable. The bed was hard and lumpy, towels were scratchy and abrasive and there was very little space in the bathroom to place your toiletries. There was no microwave and the cabinet that contained the refrigerator could not be opened fully because the bed was in the way. Drawers in that cabinet could not be utilized. Parking is limited, but access to blue line bus is nearby. The hotel has a great reputation because of its history, but that reputation no longer applies. The only thing luxurious about this hotel is the price. We would not return, nor recommend.

• Lewis (10/5): - Old school Classic. Can’t beat the whit cloth table service at the restaurant. While prices are high, it’s worth at least staying one night.

• Verified traveler (2/5): Stay somewhere else - Bad experience. It was impossible to book breakfast or dinner at the restaurant. Hotel guests do not have priority to eat at the restaurant. In other words, you have to book your meals before you check in. There was no room service.
