Paul (8/5): Objectively quite pleasant, but the unnecessary marketing tactics left a bad aftertaste. - Walking into the lobby was pleasant and immediately made me feel like I was on vacation. The entire building was clean and inviting. My room was spacious and comfortable, the fitness center had mats provided and enough room for me to practice yoga even with other people using the equipment, the pool was small but pleasant, the hot tub was clean and big enough for strangers to comfortably share. I had a lovely evening sitting by the fire outside and a very pleasant morning sitting downstairs drinking my coffee and working on my laptop. The staff were all quite friendly and hospitable and went out of their way to ensure I had a pleasant stay, going into the kitchen to get us extra cutlery and plates for our take-out even after the restaurant was closed. They normally refresh rooms every other day, but when I asked to have housekeeping come by and tidy up for me on a specific day they did so without hesitation and my room looked very inviting when I got back from a long day. Overall a very enjoyable stay. I do not appreciate the nickel-and-dime business model, like putting water bottles in my room for a dollar each and telling me they could have been free if I were a platinum member. Same thing with wifi, "you might be charged if you don't sign up," and trying to tempt me to pay to upgrade my member status by throttling the wifi speed for "basic" or "silver-tier" guests. Breakfast was good enough but absolutely not worth the extra $15 they charge for it. Complimentary coffee was adequate but unremakrable, and they didn't have any real half & half, just a bunch of flavored tear-offs and pump-jugs of artificial creamer like a gas station. In fact that whole section of the hotel was reminiscent of a truck stop, full of overpriced drinks and bags of chips. Coming back to my room and seeing those two up-charge water bottles just felt insulting. So here's my message for the upper-level management of Hilton Garden Inn: how about I keep my two dollars, and I'll tell you where you can shove your 20 cents worth of bottled water.

catb80 (4/5): Hotels in Hickory leave SO MUCH to be desired and this one is on par with the rest. - Walked in late this evening to a roach crawling up the wall. Interstate / area road noise is just as bad here as at the Fairfield next door. But to top it all, every time one of us roll over in bed the entire bed creaks! (And we are average size people) Mattresses are too firm. PLEASE SOMEONE open a decent hotel in this city! PLEASE!

Susan (6/5): Clean place but no actual curtains and staff walks - I liked the hotel for the most part. It was clean and quiet. The negative thing was that every morning the sun came right in the window and the blinds couldn’t be pulled. There were only shear curtains so we were awoken at sunrise every day. Also check out is at noon and we were planning to check out at that time. Twice the cleaning people came in without knocking even though we hadn’t checked out. It was scary! We were just relaxing in the room and in walked staff!

Waking many people on floor four and looking in the hallway thinking something bad was happening. If the child was screaming like this at the front desk the staff should had turned the customers away.

carmelitaso (10/5): Great Customer Service and Amenities - Just left the hotel and this stay on my business trip exceeded my expectations, I am so glad I booked my stay here. Hotel was conveniently located close to restaurants, grocery stores, you name it. Compared to my other hotel options in the area that I have stayed in, this location felt a lot nicer and had more amenities I was looking for like on-site dining which really came in handy during the rolling thunderstorms at the time which proved it difficult to travel outside for food. Breakfast was available in the morning with some easy to grab and go items as well as a full menu with a nice selection of items. I did have a nice rib eye in the evening at the hotel bar as well. What really made my stay so unique in comparison to other hotels is the customer service. ALL of the staff I encountered were super friendly and happy to assist me with any needs. I'd like to specifically point out Elizabeth at the bar in the evenings who was so warm, not just to me, but all the patrons. She made sure to present herself and ask and remember all of our names. This created a friendly atmosphere and encouraged all of the patrons to converse and just feel so welcome, Being the only staff to serve both the bar and tables in the dining area during the busy evenings she did not miss a beat in always checking up on me. This place is now my preferred stay on all my future trips for business in Hickory and I will be returning soon!
