Guest Reviews
- Stephenson (6/5): - Location. I was able to walk to most places.
- Zouhaier Amara (10/5): -
- Isadora Gail (2/5): - We like the staff and the location for it is convient for driver pick up & drop off after our tour activities. The room has mosquito net but they are stained, the bathroom water pressure is too slow, no toothbrush & toothpaste, and no soap/bath gel and shampoo (provide your own), shuttle service is $20-one way for a 15-minute or less airport drive.
- Nawel (8/5): -
- SARFARAJ YAKUB (1/5): -
- Hasina Nasser Mohammed (7/5): The staff were very helpfull especially the two receptionists - The breakfast had little choice but the staff was v friendly.
The bread was so thick i think they make the fough there. The toilet flash had mo pressure and towells were dull not white old like although i believecthey are washed daily.
No Shampoo
Telephone not working not easy to contact reception
The hot kettle at first they gave us a rusted one untill we complained
The fridge was mot workimg when we needed to store something immediately,
We found out that the room next to us had all the good items 🥲
- Gimina (10/5): Comfortable - Location, clean, customer service… value for money Breakfast could be better. However, it was ok considering the price
- Annett (6/5): -
- Zahra (10/5): A hidden gem in Stone Town - We had a great stay at Asmini Palace. The staff were curious, attentive, and quite helpful. The rooms were large, comfortable and tastefully decorated. This is a hidden gem in Stone Town, I highly recommend it.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was cooked to order. I believe that we were the only guests staying there at the time, though it was low-season.
The location is excellent near Forodhani Park. The lift wasn't working and the room didn't have a balcony, although we were expecting one.
- Simon (8/5): Very good - Great location and exceptional staff The ladies serving breakfast were wonderful but a wider variety of food would be nice
- John (8/5): good experience - everything ok na
- Eldaw (7/5): Good -
- Anine (10/5): Great stay in Stone Town - The staff are friendly and the rooms are great. Spacious, clean and great value for money. Breakfast served on the roof was lovely, staff are around 24/7 to assist. It is very centrally located and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to be.
- Tola (10/5): Our stay was awesome because they made us comfortable. - They were amazing. Especially the manager, he went out of his way to make us comfortable. Nothing. I loved it
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Saudin (6/5): Good location, friendly staff. Be careful of hidden charges. - Kind and courteous staff, good location, great basic facilities. Close proximity to ferry and nearby Forodhani. My family was charged an additional $36 for "Tourist Tax". This is something that was NOT indicated on the Booking.com platform. Nobody was informed about about this charge during check-in.
- Sherri (9/5): The family had a good time , we would stay again - Rooms were good Location was a bit hidden and different
- Ghizlaine (7/5): Good -
- Rashta (5/5): Fine for a good location - The staff were incredibly friendly and made up for a general lack of facilities. They went out of their way to arrange breakfast for us to take with us as we were leaving before the restaurant opened. We could hear all the neighboring rooms and the doors slamming
- Archita (8/5): Very good - Beautiful building and architecture! The lobby is absolutely gorgeous. The breakfast was on their rooftop and it had a great view. Overall a wonderful place. The location was a bit hard to find and did not show up correctly on both Google and Apple Maps. But we have a local show us the way so it worked out!
- Duduzile (6/5): Pleasant - I recommend that they improve their wifi connectivity in the rooms especially if you travel for work.
- Eva (9/5): No complaints 🙏 - The rooms were specious and clean.
The toilets were a bit tiny, but accommodative.
TV should be set for guest to switch on and not for the guest, to go through the setting process.
Staff were very helpful.
It is a place to stay for a short time🤗 Toilet soap should be a bit bigger.
- Tanya (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast was good with a great view. The location was extremely convenient for the ferry. A beautiful building overall and the addition of the lift was a bonus with luggage. Wifi was poor. We found the bed extremely hard (and I prefer a firm bed). The aircon was working, but got extremely cold and the bathroom was pretty but the water pressure was not great.
- Salim (8/5): Very good -
- Med (9/5): Superb -
- Kolawole (4/5): Disappointing -
- Reed (9/5): Yes! - Great location, very friendly and helpful staff. Near the ocean, but in the narrows streets of Stone Town. Great value.
- Nicholas (7/5): A well situated, traditional hotel, good for a short visit to Stone town - Lovely traditional architecture Wi-Fi and tv not working
- Nkamba (4/5): Disappointing - The room had no private sun deck, the manager was not helpful, and the air conditioner was not working well and ended up having fire in the room, very heavy smoke .
- Jackson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (8/5): A handsome, traditional hotel close to the historic seafront of Zanzibar Stone Town. Don’t expect mod cons, but very goo - This hotel is situated very close to the sea front, near many of the historical landmarks of Stone Town. It is handsomely fitted out with traditional furniture. The staff are friendly. There was initially a problem with the booking in that we clearly asked for a twin room but were offered a double. Nonetheless, the manager at reception was able to rectify this very quickly. The roof terrace where breakfast is served could do with a little care as it has seen better days. That said the views from the top are interesting. TV wasn’t working, but this is often the case in Stone Town hotels, and wasn’t a real issue.
- Bitte (10/5): The staff made the hotel worth staying - The staff was beyond .
- Riyadh (8/5): Very good - Location in Stonetown, close to the ferry terminal and night market, whilst being away from thee noise as well The lift was not working and the aircon was inconsistant
- Solomon (8/5): Very good - Staff There are not enough instructions on how to use the TV.
- Kevin (8/5): Very pleasant. - It had friendly staff, clean and in the middle of Stone Town.
- Manji (7/5): The place was decent but the price was not worth. - Very convenient place Over priced
- Murtaza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zylia (7/5): Nice but the hotel needs TLC! - Location was great! Roof restaurant was not like on the pictures.
- Damii Richard (10/5): Fantastic breakfast - I would say they have the best breakfast I have tried in Stone Town, and trust me, I have tried several.
- Kobus (8/5): Nice stay in the heart of Stone Town - In the heart of Stone Town.
Beautiful old building.
Comfortable room.
Nice breakfast Parking is limited but available
- Nyanda (8/5): Very good -
Superbra service.
- Khalide (9/5): Nice and quiet - The hotel is located in a very calm area of stone town, just 2 minutes walking to Forodhani. The place was clean, spacious room, AC, comfortable beds and simple but nice breakfast. The hotel team is excellent. The receptionist Mr. Jumuah was very helpful all the time. If you want to go to any place in the island or do a tour, just talk to him and he will organize and provide a nice/affordable driver. I liked everything. The hotel is simple and has everything that one may need. Some people complains that the elevator is not operational, but the stairs are not bad. Looking for elevator in historic buildings like that is bizarre
- Jihad (7/5): Good -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (8/5): - Well located near to the centre of Stonetown, friendly helpful staff. Could do with a bar up on the rooftop terrace.
- Pradeshnee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (9/5): A nice spot for an overview of Stone Town. - We were looking for a place in Stone Town fairly last-minute, and the Asmini Palace worked out perfectly. The hotel is very nice, and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast on the rooftop was quite enjoyable, with fresh fruit and good variety and portions. There are plenty of restaurants around, and finding good food outside the hotel was not too hard. This was a very good place for our first view of Stone Town. Stone Town has lots of nice streets to wander around - but watch out for motorcycles! Some of the city - including right around the hotel - is fairly rustic, but this is preferable to being overdeveloped. Traveling with young kids meant we weren't able to explore the city as much as would be ideal, but what we saw was nice.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chiara_paps (8/5): Recommended - The staff was very supportive and friendly, they helped us book nice excursions.
The breakfast was nice and filling.
Recommended The mosquitoes net were broken, the room smelled dusty
- Angela (8/5): A very comfortable stay, accessible to the sea front, - Location, spacious bed, excellent rooftop breakfast.
Very helpful staff , especially when Air France mislaid our luggage. Nothing.
- Malin (8/5): Nice Hotel - Very nice staff, good location in Stone Town. One of the nicest hotels in the area. Hard beds. Nice breakfast on the Rooftop.
European measures =3 rate
Tanzanian measures = 4 rate
- Rabindra (1/5): I did of stay because of unsuitable facility. - Location was good. The facility and management is the worst I have experience since my travel history.
- Zahur (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pascal (8/5): Very good - The location, very close to the ferry terminal, close to Forhodani Park and Old Fort.
The room was very comfortable, clean and just enough for my wife, kid and myself. The elevator was not working. So we had to go up and down through the stairs for breakfast, room and reception. They should really invest in fixing the elevator.
- Laura-iulia (3/5): Poor - The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. The location is good. Everything is very old and not well maintained. Definitely not worth the money.
- Steven (4/5): Great location, rough, old hotel - The staff were great, helping with our luggage. The location was perfect for us also. The rooms were unloved, old, unclean with AC that barely worked and a ceiling fan that sounded like you were inside a washing machine. We did choose to stay at a cheaper hotel for this part of the trip but it was probably twice the price it should have been.
- Wang (10/5): First experience is the excellence forever - It stands between the beach and Muslim residents , both enjoyed myself.
- Ammytz (3/5): Poor -
- Shamsa (4/5): the staff were helpful. - location is close to centre the elevator doesn’t work. the breakfast was on fourth floor so we didn’t bother going up using the stairs.
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Reiter (9/5): Superb -
- allison (10/5): - Great location. Nice rooftop breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was pathetic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a really lovely hotel, perfectly situated for walking tours of Stone Town. The rooftop breakfasts were delicious and the staff was attentive and helpful. We had a wonderful stay.
- David (10/5): - The staff was friendly and accommodating. Rooms were spacious, clean and culturally intriguing. Rooftop breakfasts were very nice. Located in the heart of Stone Town, the hotel was well situated for walking tours of historic sites, shopping, and access to the scenic harbor. Airport shuttles and island tours were set up nicely through the front desk.
- Richard (10/5): A very good mid-range hotel - We were only there for 2 nights, but were well looked after by the staff. It is very central, but NOT where it is shown on hotel.com's website. please use Google to see where it really is. This was clearly pointed out by me to hotels.com, but their call centre agent was incapable of resolving this. Our room was totally acceptable for a mid-range hotel. Breakfast is simple and is served in a roof-top restaurant. it's nothing spectacular, but we'd definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Gradevole soggiorno - In centro a stone town, colazione ottima, bagno piccolo e buio.
Consigliato per brevi soggiorni
- Clare (8/5): Nice basic hotel close to the ferry port - We were given cold fresh juice when we arrived and staff were really helpful when we were checking in, and with any questions we had during our stay. Rooms were comfortable with ac, fridge, bottled water, tea and coffee, tv, mosquito nets. We had lunch in the rooftop restaurant, which was all good (cheeseburger, puzza, calamari). Breakfast was also good, and they allowed us to check out late and helped carry our bags to the ferry. Would definitely recommend staying here.
- GIANLUCA (8/5): Consigliato! Wifi accettabile. Consigliato!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Would recommend this hotel - God location close to everything in stone town. Pretty good wifi as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel, well located near the sea front and close to ferry yet only 10 mins walk from main tourist strip. Can be confusing to find as it's marked in the wrong place in Google maps. Staff are really nice and accommodating. Clean, spacious room with good air con and nice breakfast on the roof terrace. Overall very good hotel!
- Bo (8/5): Mycket bra läge i Sten staden.
- Peggy (10/5): Nice hotel in the middle of Stone Town - We stayed for 3 nights with our two kids (4 and 7) in Asmini Palace and we liked it very much. The room was very clean and we had two big beds with mosquito nets. The breakfast was very good and all the staff were extremely friendly and warmhearted. It´s very close to the House of Wonders and in just a few minutes you are in the hustle and bustle of Stone Town. The roof top terrace is nice as well.
- Nacho (2/5): Muy viejo y sucio - Muy viejo y sucio.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Sentralt hotell - Veldig sentralt, kort til alle mulige spennende kultur områder i Stonetown. hyggelig personale.
- Luke (10/5): - Very nice breakfast and friendly hotel staff. We went in low season, so we were the only hotel guests.
- Bonnie (8/5): Good location. No frills, satisfactory stay. - No frills but very acceptable. We used it for one night before departing for the coast and would probably have wanted a few more comforts if staying longer. Had a family room and there were two double beds and didn't feel cramped. Really good location for exploring StoneTown. $15 taxi from airport.
- Maria (4/5): - Central location, room was musty, mattresses very old. Nice staff.
- Andria (8/5): Friendly staff and management - A nice cosy resort with all you need.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dirt and dust turn me off. - I liked the location right in Stone Town, the hotel's character and authenticity and friendly staff. I didn't like bugs and dirt in the elevator, filthy menus, garbage in the planters, hideously stained pillows and inches of dust on bed frame.
- Jeff (10/5): Loved it. - Frederica was an amazing host. I will be back if I'm in Zanzibar again.
- Agneta (8/5): Nice hotel, close to almost everything - Traveling from the mainland via Stone Ttown to Paje. Stayed for three nights and everything worked perfectly. Clean room, substantial delicious breakfast and an elevator! Would definitely recommend the Asmini.
- Chrishella (2/5): BED BUGS IN ROOM 104 - I stayed at the Asmini for four nights in a double king bed room. The first night I woke with a few bites on my arm and wrist which I assumed were a mosquito bite. The next night I had a ton of small red marks on my feet, again I thought it was from maybe walking in the sand. The third and fourth night my legs were on FIRE. I had multiple bites from my feet to my thigh. Ironically my roommate didn't have any bites. She pointed out that it didn't look like mosquito bites. So I googled 'Mosquito bite vs bed bug bite' the pattern in which I was bite were exactly the pattern of bed bugs. The main thing was that they bite in a line vs mosquitos bites which are randomly placed. That's exactly what I had, bites in a line formation.
Our room on arrival was very dusty and had many spider webs so I'm assuming no one had stayed in it in a while. The laundry/towels were very stiff. I definitely don't understand why it was rated/listed as a 4 star hotel.
Had this not been the case I would have rated the hotel differently as they were accommodating to my early arrival and the men who worked the reception desk and kitchen were very nice. The Zanzibarian people are very nice people. However I would not recommend this place to friends traveling unless the whole place is exterminated.
- HEA (8/5): Central location, very friendly and helpful staff - Nice place, very good value for money, nice breakfast on roof terrace, staff was top!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean, quiet hotel within walking distance to ferry terminal and all attractions in Stone town. Beautiful roof for breakfast and when we had to leave early the staff went out of their way to pack a breakfast for us to take with us!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hotel pretends credit card system is down - Upon arriving, we found multiple signs that their credit card reader was down and that all visitors had to pay in cash. When pressed, they revealed it had been down for 4 months. Upon further pressing, they revealed they did have ways to process credit card payments.
One should not have to haggle for credit card processing. This soured my stay.
Also, no shampoo. They have resident rates which they don't advertise.
- Verified traveler (8/5): modest little gem in Stonetown - We enjoyed a very pleasant stay at this charming, affordable small hotel close to the ferry terminal, with easy meanders through Stonetown right at hand.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is well located in Stone town and the staff was immensely helpful in arranging tours, providing me with toiletries I had forgotten, and making sure I was protected from mosquitoes.
