- Gábor (5/5): Cheap and noisy - The bed was fairly comfortable and the receptionist was nice. They sent me a bunch of emails with the instructions to check-in. The door code was not correct in any of them, so I couldn't get in. There was no phone number to contact, so I had to bang the doors and windows to get someone to open it for me. Eventually a receptionist open the door, she was and explained how things go. I booked a private room with a private bathroom. I didn't expect that the private bathroom is joined with the room but I'll have to go through the corridor. The windows are not really isolated so I could here all the noise of traffic. The doors inside the hostel were not really isolated either, so I hoped for a bit more privacy. At least the inside of the hostel was pretty peaceful even for a Saturday night. The place was not specifically dirty but it was not clean either.

I was sad to hear future plans may convert this property to a hotel. - For me it was a quiet retreat although New Orleans during Super Bowl can be stressful Room was clean. Bathrooms nice and I love the hot water for long relaxing showers. The staff treated everyone like family and go out of their way to make everyone comfortable A little more refrigerator space although there was sufficient cupboard storage

The facilities are very good and the staff were exceptional. Overall the communication and check-in process was very easy. The room was slightly dated, and the furniture is looking a bit tired and old. However, it was comfortable.

- Ann (1/5): H e l l - I was told I'd have a locker for my suitcase. Got in there they didn't know what the heck to do with me. Didn't know my room didn't know where it was we got that situated I asked to put my suitcase in my locker they said we have no Locker for your suitcase so I got false advertisement. Put my suitcase by my bed went outside to smoke a cigarette went to the kitchen to get water or whatever got up the next morning zip my suitcase up again and manage to get out of there got on the ship opened up my suitcase to get my jean shorts but they weren't there so I got clothing stolen out of my suitcase because they didn't have a locker to put my suitcase in like I was told and October when I made the reservation. Try getting in contact with the manager and the lady I asked that she was and she didn't even know where I was staying what to do ask questions she didn't know I was completely lost I'm finally getting Unwound with a little bit for my experience from site 61 it was definitely not a New Orleans motel like I asked for and paid for it got there and it was nothing at all what I was told. I would appreciate it if someone would contact me that has authority over site 61 Motel.. come to find out it was a site 61 hostel and I thought that hostile number was a French or Mexican name I didn't know what the heck it meant but when I made the reservation if they were going to route for me and have a locker and enjoy my stay and how could I it was h e l l. Please give me a call cuz I would like my clothing that was stolen from out of my suitcase that I was supposed to and was told I would have a locker to put it in.
- Sarah (5/5): Would not stay here again. I've stayed at nicer hostels in the city. - Free storage for the day to explore but they don't provide locks. You have to have your own. Loud. They offer free ear plugs downstairs but anytime a large truck drove by it would shake the whole building. Was not very clean and I suspect the pictures on the site is from when they first opened. It's dingy and the floors are dirty.

- Nadine (8/5): I would stay again. - I liked that the water was hot. And there was a washer and dryer. Easy access to street cart up the street.& the bus from the airport was directly in front. I don’t like that the fridge needed to be organized and that the temperature was hard to figure out one night it was hot as hell then one night it was freezing. Old building though it’s not their fault but I’d recommend another blanket. Somebody put my tea I brought with the community tea despite my name and cup having my name on it. As well as my fabuloso I brought for the bathroom that was used I had to take it back to my room

- Christopher (6/5): A fine hostel with some security foibles - It was definitely a hostel. The hot water worked and the bed was clean and sufficiently comfortable. The vibe was nice based on the couple of other people I talked to. I was instructed prior to arrival that I would need to fill out some forms; there were no forms to fill out. The locker supposedly containing the forms and my key was waiting unlocked, even though I was told I would need a code to open it. The room key I was given was not marked correctly and turned out to not open my door (I didn't discover this until coming back later in the night because the room was already open when I first arrived). There were no staff present so I eventually just picked up the whole master key ring that was just sitting there behind the desk and tried every key until I found the one that opened my room. I guess the positive view of this is that I got a free escape room experience included with my stay. There were no lockers or any such bag security in the rooms, which is not what I expect from a shared dorm room in a hostel.

The smell when I walked in the first day was god awful. It may have been due to the fact that the trash needed to go out- but the house smelled like something had died.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Look elsewhere for better value on holidays/events - TLDR: Positive hostel experience, but at an average of $190/night for a private room during Jazz Fest, the extra $20-50 of a hotel room is worth it for the attached bathroom, additional amenities, and extra space. Pros: Beautiful restored building. Basic breakfast. Staff was helpful and other guests were friendly. Great AC, comfortable beds, and mostly very clean and quiet. Note that unless you arrive before 4-6 pm, you need to contact the property in advance to get contactless check-in instructions. Cons: Other reviews have commented on the type of neighborhood... The hostel is on a block that is indeed a bit sketchy, and it neighbors a junk yard and busy road (see pic). But you only need to walk a block to get to a scenic residential neighborhood. I did feel safe the whole time. Keep in mind that the private room is veryyy small. The door also didn't stay closed unless you locked it, which became annoying if one person stayed in the room while the other went to the bathroom. There were only 3 shared bathrooms on the hall, so there was sometimes a line, and they lacked a shelf to put a toiletry bag on. Mostly, given all the above, I found the hostel to be far too expensive for what you get, and I'd recommend finding a hotel instead.
- Douglas (8/5): Not a chain. - Beautiful old house, with a variety of accommodation choices. My room was huge, if sparely furnished, with a comfortable bed and good linens. Communal kitchen available, but in NOLA why would you want to cook! Mid town area, easy access to public transport and a number of good restaurants within an easy walk. I had a great time.
- Michael (2/5): - Unsafe and rip-off! Property in unsafe neighborhood with limited parking on street. Booked a 2 night stay but when arrived in the early evening, around 5pm,front door locked and not able to check in. Called number posted on front door for hostel employee to check in several times, but no answer and no call back. Charged for 2 nights for room we never stayed in. RIP OFF! Hostel was old and rundown from outside.

- Nicholas (8/5): - Site 61 gave my partner and I a self-sufficient, comfortable, and clean basecamp to explore New Orleans. The hostel is close to any bus line, with a 20 min walk to the nearest trolley stop. The house is next to a busy highway, but inside is quiet and peaceful. The service was mixed, due to only having one person on staff at a time. Our original room got double-booked, which led to an awkward and frustrating change when we first arrived, unlocking the door to someone already asleep. We ended up in a private double, small and simple, but perfect for our needs. I enjoyed the backyard area and can imagine the space is great in the summer, with an outside bar. The community kitchen with double sinks and portable stove made cooking easy. Site 61 strikes a nice balance between cleanliness, privacy, and group spaces, as far as hostels go. The service staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
- Ted (8/5): You get what you pay for - You get what you pay for. Pros: The hostel itself was fairly clean and the bathrooms were cleaned daily. Most of the staff are extremely friendly. Nice study/lounge room and patio. WiFi was not working when I got there but they fixed it by the next day. Room temperature was ok. Not too loud outside. Cons: Disorganized check in. Never received key to the room so it was unlocked all the time. Door to shared room wasn’t working closing properly. Shared room smelled like alcohol. No oven or stove, just a microwave and hot plate. Disorganized check out.
