Guest Reviews
- Goh (10/5): Strongly Recommend Millennium Hotel in Yangon - Millennium Hotel is my first choice to stay when I in Yangon! The Hotel is very clean and tidy! I like their service and the hotel staff always greet the guest with a lovely smile and a welcome drink. I am a vegetarian and the restaurant provide vegetarian dish and breakfast for vegetarian guest. The chef will do their best to prepare vegetarian food for me, everyone is taking of all the guest stay in the hotel, is really feel like home. I will highly recommend to all my friends to stay in Millennium hotel when they in Yangon Myanmar.
- Damian (4/5): Not a great experience. - Very old, in a very dirty part of Yangon near the docks. I didn't want to eat the breakfast once I saw it. TV is very poor. Hot (warm) water in shower only lasted for about 2 minutes. Probably avoid.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Surkea hotelli - Jos mahdollista niin älä varaa huonetta tästä hotellista. Räksyttäviä kulkukoiria piti varoa hotellin edessä.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Epäsiisti ympäristö - Todella huonokuntoinen huone. Menetteli kuukauden Aasian kierroksen jälkeen. Ystävällinen palvelu. Kiva aamiaishuone josta näki kaupungin yli. Hotellin ulkopuolella olevat kulkukoirat häiritsivät hieman. Koirien räksytys häiritsi yöunta. Ei tähän hotelliin uudelleen.
- Robert (6/5): Old and tired and very noisy location - The staff were fantastic. The rooms are showing their age. We stayed twice, first at the beginning of our tour of Myanmar, and for one night at the end. We pre booked so did not have a chance to go to another hotel the 2nd time. First visit, very noisy with traffic and monks chanting on loudspeakers all night. 2nd visit trucks honking horns all night as they were lining up to unload containers from the wharf. Positives are you are close to one of the pagodas and the old colonial British building area of the city.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not a good one - It's located in a bad neighbourhood. You would feel unsafe walking around at night.
- Gary John (8/5): - The hotel was located within easy distance to travel to downtown, staff are very responsive and always greeted with a smile, good value for money accommodation. Good size rooms and the terrace restaurant and area a bonus for relaxing and dining. I will stay here again on future visits to yangon.
- Juliana (6/5): Clean hotel, but not so nice location - The hotel was ok, and the staff was definitively friendly, however the location was far from most of things and the neighborhood was not so good.
- Michael (6/5): - Good alternative, but quite some distance from the city center.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Hotel. - At first it seems a little run down but once inside things look differently. The staff are very helpful and can find a friendly taxi to take you around for the day or half day. Restaurant is also very good, a little expensive for Myanmar but still very cheap!
- Opas (6/5): - First of all staff service is very nice. The hotel is ok, the room is a bit old, cleanliness is not as good.
Breakfast is good has some variety.
- Verified traveler (4/5):
1 A soweit.
- Steven (10/5): Great little hotel - I was pleased I stayed here. A cheap place where the room was perfectly adequate without being opulent (there was no view and the window glass was opaque), the wifi worked well, the staff were helpful, and breakfast was on the top floor with great views over the river and port. From the hotel you could also easily walk around the streets and sights of old Yangon.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place for this price in Yangon - Nice place, but too expensive for 3-star hotel in Asia. But it's a good offer in Yangon.
- Bryant (2/5): Unprofessional and incompetent front desk - During checkout at 12pm front desk could not find my reservation and told me their system was down, and gave me a bill for the stay. I showed them my hotels.com 'your reservation is guaranteed' receipt and confirmation ID, and had them fumble around for an hour, saying confirmation ID was not the reservation ID they needed, continually asking me for cash, insisting on my credit card (gave them but they couldn't process amex), phoning their manager (who i spoke to over a screaming baby as his background noise), and saying wait 5 more minutes, 5 more minutes! I had an appointment at 1pm and waited until 1:05, and which point I politely told them I had waited over an hour and had done all i could and walked out. Unbelievably, they tried to keep me even longer with 'wait 5 more minutes'. I can not believe I even waited an hour for them. In retrospect, I should have walked out in 20 minutes.
This is the kind of customer service that gets you a bad name and no repeat customers.
- Roy (4/5): Hotel in bad area - We booked a superior room for 4 nights and specifically requested a room with a view. However we were given a room which was barely larger than the bed, no window, and smelled of dirty drains. It was like a prison cell, and we asked for a different room, but we told that we would have to pay an additional $10 per night, which we had no option but to accept. The best thing about the hotel is its restaurant which has beautiful views of the river, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is however the biggest issue as is quite far from any of the tourist sites and very few decent restaurants. Also, the constant noise from bellowing loudspeakers from 2 competing religious groups (24 hours a day). This gave the area as sense of religious extremism - not a comforting feeling to say the least. Also, note that the emergency exit in the hotel is not safe and is blocked at the bottom of the building with rubble. We couldn't wait to get out of the area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wi-Fi
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not a Wow hotel - We were disappointed with Millennium. Though it is right on Strand Road, the neighbourhood is not the best. We took a deluxe room, on the 8th floor, room is spacious and with windows on both sides but the sea and city views are sad as you are looking over the shipyard with containers and shanty buildings. The bathroom is spacious but it needs a good cleaning. We have stayed in Myanmar for 10 days, this hotel has the worst WIFI. However the staff is excellent. Breakfast is acceptable as well.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Comfortable - The breakfast was my highlight. Being vegeterian I was served a wide variety of vegetable entrees choices. The buffet including the omlet station was great. The quality of TV reception was bad although the channel choices were great. The wifi still needs to be upgrated through-out the country. The hotel is over priced just as most of the hotels in the country are compared to Thailand. Overall the service at the hotel was fantastic.
- Brian (10/5): Very nice hotel and great staff, good food. - My wife and I enjoyed 5 nights at Millenium. We had a wonderful room with comfortable beds, hot water for showers, a small refrigerator and lots of room.
Breakfast offered sufficient options to satisfy us. The dinner menu is not huge, which was fine with us, but the first night we ordered we were very surprised at the portion sizes, which were large. After that we ordered one meal to split rather than two. The food was excellent overall.
The hotel is not in a location which has a lot to do, although a 15 minute walk to the 48th and Anwaratha Road area will get you to massage facilities and a few restaurants.
The hotel staff was great. The food service workers were helpful and friendly, the desk staff helped us with anything we needed, including currency exchange, getting taxis (and getting the taxi fare set for us), giving some advice on things to see. Very pleasant and patient staff.
The biggest downside to any hotel in Myanmar is that Myanmar's internet system is very poor.
- Kristen (10/5): Good value for your money - Millennium Hotel is a modern hotel on "The Strand". The staff is more than helpful- they'll bend over backwards to help you get a taxi or answer any questions. The restaurant staff is also great--and those garlic French fries--yum! The view from the restaurant is a must-see for sunset. Absolutely gorgeous. One thing I might suggest, as this is a newer hotel, make sure to take a hotel card with you for the taxi--they might not know the name, but they'll see the map and know the location. Proved to be very helpful as English was sometimes hard to come by. Highly recommend this hotel.
- Frazer (8/5): Nice hotel but a little away from the centre - I booked this hotel as it was a special deal and seemed to offer the best value for my dates.
Pros:
- Good sized room with air conditioning, comfy king bed and English language TV channels
- Excellent breakfast options - the best in 3 weeks in Myanmar
- Nice rooftop terrace for an evening drink with views of the river and the city
- Friendly & helpful staff
- Close to Botahtaung pagoda & ferry terminal
- 15 min walk to Strand Hotel area/Pansodan St
Cons
- A bit out of the way for walking, esp. to Shwedagon Pagoda (>1hr). City centre 20 min walk, but taxis are cheap.
- The neighbourhood is a bit "industrial": opposite the container port and a bottle/metal collection yard and next to a 6 lane road (that's not busy). Not unsafe, however: we came and went at all times.
- The view from the windows is of knee deep rubbish in alleys between tenements, but that's Yangon.
- Not many eating options close by, but we timed our return to the hotel to stop for dinner on the way
Of course, the internet was hopeless, but this can't be stated as a con because it's the same all over.
Overall: a nice place and good value if you don't mind a walk or to taxi to the attractions
- John (6/5): Okay Hotel Stay - I stayed four nights here. The staff was friendly and courteous and spoke English well enough. The room I had was small and without a window. The hotel was located in the east side of the old downtown area near the river, a pogoda, and outdoor market. The area was overall dirty and poor. The hotel restaurant was on the top floor and had an outside terrace, which I found very enjoyable during the mid or late afternoon to drink a beer and watch the ships and boats navigating the river. I had several good meals at the restaurant and breakfasts were good also. The restaurant staff was very nice and would engag me in conversation. Since this country has more recently opened up to foreign tourists, I believe the staff was interested in were I was from, etc., and practicing their English.
The hotel was in walking distance of a number of sights and other pagodas, but not the main pagoda in Yangon.
There were several pubs in the area, the best being the 50th Street Bar & Grill.
I spent New Year's Eve in Yangon and took a cab to the other side of the city that has more modern high rise hotels and shopping malls and had a wonderful time at a club named "DJ's".
Except for the staff, not sure I would return to this hotel. The wifi did not work well. A sign in the elevator indicated it was due to everything going through the government's servers.
- Christian (8/5): Good stay - Nice place at the riverfront. All major sights easily accessible. Great service and friendly personal
- john (8/5): Value boutique hotel - We stayed at the Millennium (Yangon) for a total 3 (2 + 1) nites. The first 2 nites was a larger more comfortable room while the final 1 nite was a smaller (less comfortable) room. The staff were all lovely helpful people, the rooms spotless, the service great, the breakfast quite adequate, the location OK, the neighborhood passable (just) so overall value for money is really very good. This hotel is some distance to shopping and sights but given taxis are so reasonable and readily available that's no real hindrance.
- Cary (10/5): Great toom staff has limited english - Nice facility only issue is staff has limited Eglish
- elizabeth (6/5): Nice hotel for a first impression of Myanmar - Three night stay as a first stop in Myanmar. Hotel is decent in terms of service, cleanliness, and breakfast buffet. Staff was pleasant and did their best to accommodate our needs. Their English is a little rough, but we managed just fine. Location is very close to a night market and temple.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK - Nice clean comfy rooms. The wi-fi is sporadic at best but I suppose that's due to the underlying infrastructure and not the hotel's fault. Hot water in the shower wasn't especially hot, too. But otherwise it's a good hotel in a useful location.
- Cary (10/5): central location great price - Very friendly and helpful staff
- Soe (10/5): Good to stay with reasonable price - Only thing is room is small. Other than that everything is Good
- Yvonne (6/5): Great location - In the heart of the night market! Great coffee shop next door! (Coffee shops are rare in Myanmar) overall a nice budget hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Yvonne (10/5): Millennium Hotel - This area was probably fantastic at one point (The Strand Hotel is just down the road and a major pagoda is about a 5 min. walk away) but now with increased port activity, one is right across the street from a working port - shipping containers, etc. Still, though, we felt completely safe. The staff (as in the case in most of Southeast Asia) were very pleasant and helpful. Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- KEVIN (10/5): Super pleasant stay - The hotel is really good! I would recommend to all of you, the staff were really helpful and the location is near botataung pagoda.
- Verified traveler (10/5): I Enjoyed My Stay at the Millennium Hotel - The staff at the Millennium Hotel was very courteous. The mattress in the room was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet is in the restaurant on the top floor with views of the Yangon River.
