- Michael (7/5): Comfortable and almost worth the cost. - Location was great. Room size was impressive. There was an unidentifiable odour to the building…a kind of musty/ mouldy smell that you just have to get used to; I suppose it’s because the age of the property and this particular room was over the restaurant. It took a while to figure out the tv remote situation. Some light bulbs were burnt out. The bed linens had been washed with an overly fragrant detergent and the door(s) to the room felt a little insecure, as they were basic hollow-core wood with a simple lock-knob (no deadbolt). There could have been a little more complementary coffee available with some actual creamers instead of the powder whitener provided. Finally, the portable AC units’ vent hose mounted in the window would would make it very easy for anyone to break into the room via the fire escape/roof level (just a paranoid city dweller’s viewpoint!) All minor details, but overall a pleasant stay.

- j. (1/5): I have traveled a lot in my 55 years of being a medical doctor. I have never been treated so badly. - Didn’t havebreakfast Liked location Hostess was rude, obnoxious, irrational. Luggage lost within the facility and wasn’t’found’ until the next day after hostess learned we had made a police report. We had to sleep in our clothes. We had to backtrack from Niagara Falls to Pt Colburn to get our luggage. Hostess demanded apology from my wife and I for causing stress on her and staff by calling police. My wife is 84y/o and I am 87y/o. Hostess had no concern or interest in stress placed on us by me making multiple trips up and down the 20 steps to carry our luggage, or our sleepless night worrying about luggage and trying to sleep in our clothes, and having to drive back to Pt Colbourne to pick up our luggage, or our waiting 2 1/2 hours in the hot sun to make police report.

You could access the venue from the back or front. The room was of ample size and clean. Would have appreciated higher end java options.

We appreciated the ground level accommodation with parking right outside our door and a cute little private patio with 4 chairs. The unit is spacious, decorated lovely and is well stocked with cooking utensils. We will definitely stay there again.

- John (8/5): - Our first time in Port Colborne, quick visit. This hotel and restaurant is a fairly popular spot. Nice spacious room in an older building, above the restaurant. We had the room with the canal view. Room is well-equipped with a kitchennette for longer stays. Characteristic of the older building, the wood floor was sqeaky and no elevator, but this was not an issue for us. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant, and they accommodated my wife's request for gluten free options (celiac). Nice walking promenade across the road, along the canal.

- Rosalie (10/5): - The rooms are located upstairs over the restaurant. We were greeted and checked in by Greg, the owner. Very friendly, made us feel at home. Even offered to help bring up our luggage since there is no elevator and quite a bit of stairs. We had room #6, beautiful, very spacious, very clean, no dingy smell. I would have liked to have two more towels and I’m sure he would have given them to us, but I forgot to ask when we went down for dinner. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet even thought a band was playing in the restaurant. Restaurant food is delicious and the staff are so friendly you feel like family. Hubby enjoyed watching the cargo ships come through the canal. Will definitely stay there again. Thank you for your hospitality.

The best part was watching from the apartment windows as ships ran under the draw bridge over the Welland Canal, plus the bridge itself lifting and dropping. The good and the bad is that it’s in the center of town on the Canal. It’s bad right now because the streets nearby are under construction. It’s good because the Canal House bar and restaurant are just below the inn’s rooms, plus guests have walking access to all shopping and services available in the town’s center.

Restaurant staff was friendly and food was good. Rooms were unclean. Room 10 should not even be rented out. The occupants of room 10 forfieted a days stay and left early because the room was so bad. Dirty, moldy, cob webby. Asked to change rooms and were denied and not offered anything except to clean the room again, still dirty, weird smell. Owner seemed offended at request and was not hospitable in regards to the dissatisfaction. Other room 3,4,7 and 1 were ok. Roo. 1 and 7 bathroom walls were gross. Lots if stairs.

Easy check-in. Prompt answering of question re: parking via text. Able to sit out along the canal with a beverage at the end of the day. Kitchen well stocked and single coffee maker made good coffee. Challenging if not impossible for anyone who has mobility issues. This downside ought to be on the website...twenty steep stairs although solid banister and great motion lighting. Would have liked to switch off the ac and open windows but one window would not budge, another window screen was ripped, the third window did not have screen and the fourth window was blocked by air conditioner.

His staff were great and very knowledgeable about the area. Rooms were clean spacious and well stocked. This is a very great value for the money hands down. Safe to walk and loads of restaurants but the Canalside was our favorite.

- Lynn (6/5): Good for one night for group of cyclists. - Close to the canal to watch the ships. At the end of the canal bike trail which we rode from St.Catherines. A good place to stop for the night before the ride back. Close to bike or walk to Nickel Beach. Good for group cycling together. Rooms were large with lots of beds and a kitchen. There were two sections to the hotel. A newer section and older section. Some of our group was in the new section which was great. I stayed in old section above the restaurant kitchen. Did not feel there was a safe fire exit. Did not feel secure with locks on entry and room doors.

Room was spacious with tons of storage - we came on motorcycles so with helmets and gear, sometimes your typical hotel room can be cramped but this was perfect. Kitchen was well appointed and we loved laying in bed with our coffee, watching the boats come through the canal. Very walkable and plenty of dining options.
