- Danielle (10/5): -
- Sanford (3/5): Okay - Customer service was horrible when I checked out
- L3250VPmelaniel (10/5): Clean hotel in a great location! - We had an amazing experience at the Bear Lodge! The lobby & room were clean and well appointed, staff was helpful and friendly, the grounds were amazing - we walked the trails and went to the auto museum and the restaurant was delicious.
- Daydream57971005876 (10/5): Saved Our Trip with Amazing Service - We were very grateful to secure last-minute accommodations at 9:30 PM when other hotel reservations fell through. The upgrade we received was wonderful and truly enhanced our trip, including our visit to the car museum and the beautiful nature trail. The excellent customer service, shuttle service, and overall experience were greatly appreciated.
- Abhijeet (8/5): - Nice experience
- clsrn78 (10/5): Wonderful place to stay! - Great place to stay. The grounds are beautiful. The staff were all very courteous and helpful. Just remember- things are more expensive in Alaska since most everything has to be shipped in.
- edavid212 (10/5): Perfect of both worlds: hotel comfort/services and beautiful outdoors hikes and gardens - Came at the end of August, just in time to see the Sandhill cranes at the Creamers field behind the hotel property fence. We enjoyed the room, the amenities if offered, the friendliness of the staff and willingness to answer questions. Having access to umbrellas was a great plus as we used it during our hike of the trails withing the property of this hotel. We were able to enjoy everything we hoped for: the outdoors property and the comfort of the hotel.
- Debra (10/5): - Beautiful lodge. Spacious guest rooms with his in her sinks. Great lobby and delicious restaurant. Satellite TV reception is poor but when I stay here again? Absolutely.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Wayne (6/5): - Expensive room with little amenities. No chair in the room to relax. My room looked out over a roof
- Jeff (8/5): - The room was large clean. The furniture was small and not really useable which is probably why they keep the fridge, coffee maker, cups, and ice bucket in the bathroom. The cups next to the toilet was particularly puzzling. Plenty of parking here, and location is easy to get to and from different places in town.
- 378cathyt (8/5): NCL precruise stop in Fairbanks for two nights - This was a two day stay as part of our Pre cruise tour to Alaska with NCL. It worked out fine as far as the rooms go. I would be prepared for limited choices for breakfast. There is a main dining room, which is expensive for breakfast and not very good at all. Food came out cold and was expensive. There is a side breakfast "cafe" where you can buy muffins, breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Much better choice. Dinner is limited too. We ate at the Italian restaurant nearby, walking distance. The plates are large, so I'd recommend sharing an entree.
A equipe é cordial e ativa.
- Pollack B Simon (10/5): - Great stay
- Pollack B Simon (10/5): - Great staff
- Julie (9/5): Good, clean, breakfast too expensive! - Very clean and nice. Too expensive. Breakfast was $20 for cereal/continental items and $30 if you wanted more of a meal. Way too expensive. Caters to bus tours.
- Triciapedia (6/5): Solid tourist hotel in Fairbanks - This place is designed for cruise tours and it delivers. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with just what you need. The staff are friendly and hospitable.
If you’re looking for a luxury or high end experience, this is not it. If you just want a clean and quiet place to sleep and shower, this is a great choice.
- melrR9970HF (10/5): Fantastic Fairbanks Hotel Resort! - The rooms are clean, nicely appointed in a nice location in Fairbanks. We enjoyed our stay. They offer many amenties that most hotels fail to provide such clean Laundry Room with large folding table, 3 meal dining, a quirky museum and elegant lobby area. We highly recommend this hotel resort for those wishing a relaxing stay.
- terrigM3783KX (2/5): Horrible Experience Manager bad attitude in terms of satisfying the guest - This place had very very bad customer service. We arrived on July 17 and spent 2 nights. Our luggage was late coming in from our flight. The first night we had no a/c and while you may think it's Alaska and you don't need it well think again it was 80 degrees there. We called several times the next day regarding our luggage and they told us that the luggage was in our room and we also requested the a/c to be fixed they told us it has been repaired. After returning around 5 pm our luggage was not in our room the a/c was not fixed. We asked where our luggage was and no none could find our luggage. They sent a repair guy to our room to look at the a/c which he couldn't fix. We asked several people about our luggage and 45 minutes later found someone that told us our luggage was in a locked room and finally got it for us. Then we were told we had to move rooms because a/c could not be repaired. They had no maintenance staff on duty we were told. We had made plans to meet friends for dinner so we could not change rooms until we got back at 10 pm. I asked to speak to the general manager and it got worse from there. Her name was Jasmin and she was very rude and basically told me she spoke with her employees and they told her our luggage was in our room and basically called me a liar. Was only willing to comp us $20 for the room with no a/c. Being in the hotel business for several years I was so disgusted by the way they treated us. All I can say is I would never ever stay at this place again nor would I recommend this place to anyone. If I treated any of my customers that way I would not be in business. I told them I was going to give them a less than desirable review and the manager said do what you need to do as if to say I don't care. What a horrible way to run a business. If I were the owner of this business I would be very concerned that a manager would treat customers this way. There are much better places to stay in Fairbanks. Hopefully this helps someone else to not make the same mistake of staying here as we did.
- Deborah (2/5): Horrible - It was clean. We only had 1 bath towel. We called the night we arrived to get another set of towels. The evening person said someone would bring them by shortly. In the morning, my husband still had no towel, so we called again. A rude person answered and said we would need to come get the towels. I explained that I had mobility issues and we never got the towels. My husband used my wet towel. Also at least HALF of the light bulbs were blown out in our room. The bed was hard. We asked for help more than once and never got any. We then came down for breakfast at 10am, and the breakfast areas was already closed. Even though the hotel was virtually empty, nobody even said I’m sorry or anything. Complete disappointment, especially for $332/night!!
- Kevin (8/5): - Clean hotel.
- ACTnGROWN (4/5): Unnecessary rudeness at mediocre hotel - I stayed at this hotel as part of the land component of a larger land/cruise pack with Princess Cruises. We only stayed one night. It was the very start of our vacation. And the Bear Lodge did its best to start it off on a bad note.
We flew 7 hours from Chicago and we got to the Bear Lodge at 8:30am. They were not ready to check us in, which we were totally expecting. But the two women working at the front desk seemed so annoyed by us and were unnecessarily rude about it. They did hold our bags at the front desk so we could explore Fairbanks.
We got back to the hotel at 3pm and the front desks tells us that our room is till not ready and that guaranteed check in is at 4pm. So no big deal, we wait in the lobby. Then at 3:50pm, someone from the front desk tells us that there will be a 20 minute delay. What?!? The hotel knew we were waiting since 8:30am and they could not have our room ready by guaranteed check in?!? We spoke to the staff, who could care less about any inconvenience. Then the manager comes out 10 minutes later. Or I assume she was the manager, because she never identified herself. She basically threw us our room keys and made a big deal it was 4pm in the dot. No “sorry for the wait” or “welcome to our hotel”, just nothing.
Are you kidding me?!? I paid a good amount to be on this vacation and the hotel staff welcomes us with this unnecessary rudeness??? Looking through reviews here, I am not the first to have this unpleasant experience here.
As for the hotel itself, it is adequate. The room is spacious, the balcony is nice, and I liked the layout of the bathroom with duel sinks. What I did not like was the poor water pressure in the shower, a leaky shower head, and lack of outlets to plug things in. There is a restaurant on site that we did not use and a small cafe that was nice to grab coffee and a morning snack. But overall, it is the service that drags this hotel down. Which is surprising since I saw lots of tour buses unloading people here, so they have to work with the cruise companies. Princess, if you read this, please find a nicer hotel to work with that will not treat your cruise customers like trash.
- Loretta (10/5): Nice - Such a pleasant surprise to get here and find it better than the pics & reviews. The gym is in a different building than we are staying in, but just a short walk. The room is spacious, clean & comfy. The staff is friendly and very helpful
- Brooke (10/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): - The landscaping was beautiful. Staff was very helpful.
- 69ronaldr (8/5): Generally favorable but a few minor hitches. - There is service in the rooms just every 4 days. If you want fresh towels or coffee service replenishment, you have to ask the front desk to provide this--even though the sign in the bathroom says that if you want fresh towels to please leave dirty towels on the floor. WE DID--THE HOTEL DIDN'T.
- bjtravelsf (8/5): Great place to stay - Nice place. We were on a cruisetour, so hotel was booked by the cruise line. Very comfy room. Food was a bit pricey, but we expected it would be. Staff was very nice. Our group spent our last night (we were there two nights) in the bar. Bar tender was amazing. We started with 5 of us and eventually others joined us. Had to keep pulling tables together. We were having so much fun and laughing that people who were not part of our group asked to join us. Wish we were staying there longer!
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
- willardjtalley (10/5): Friendly Place - We enjoyed the stay. We hiked at Creamery Field. We visited some interesting attractions like Morris Thompson Cultural and History Center, Pioneer Park, and others. We enjoyed walking around Fairbanks.
- williamsA8687BU (4/5): Land & Cruise vacation - 3 star hotel at best, super friendly staff but lacked knowledge. They couldn't answer any question about Princess Cruises.
- Diane (10/5): - Great property! Great staff too!
- Kaz5153 (8/5): Turned out great - We did not have the best welcome at the Bear Lodge. We called the front desk from the airport for a shuttle which their website stated to call for and we were curtly told that even though we arrived a day early we were not entitled to a shutttle because we were part of a tour group starting the next day. We arrived by Uber around 1:30 and were told that our room was not ready until 4:00 and although they did store our luggage we were given no information on where we could go in the area for 2 1/2 hours as the resort was quite far from everything.
That being said our 2 night stay here was very comfortable and the restaurant was very good. The staff in the restaurant, both breakfast and dinner were so friendly and we really enjoyed our conversations with them. We love Fairbanks and will hopefully return for the northern lights.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - This was a very last minute booking since the Bear Creek Fire prevented us from driving to our destination. While there were not many places that we could get a room in Fairbanks at such late notice, we feel that we got a great place. The staff were extremely helpful.
- Joshua (8/5): Very good -
- debated2025 (10/5): Great stay - The place was great with excellent service. The beds were very comfortable and their hamburgers were “to-die-for”. I would stay there again in a second
- Kymberly (7/5): Good -
- Charles (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (10/5): - I have a special travel need, and the people working the front desk took care of what I needed quickly, and with a smile. Thanks.
- Donna (8/5): - I picked it because I needed a place night before flight and they had shuttles. It was OK but room had a funny smell. It was ok but didn’t have time to look.
- Charles (9/5): short - location expensive for what it is
- Norma (10/5): - Very nice hotel. Very comfortable beds. Friendly staff. They have a restaurant at the hotel. Driving distance from stores.
- Coastal56729345614 (4/5): Bed bugs! - The "front desk manager" jasmin was unfriendly and no customer service. Woke up to bed bug bites on my neck and went to go tell them. They never offered to check until I went back a second time to ask for their name and title. Dining had better customer service.
- Cheri (2/5): - The "front desk manager" Jasmin was not very professional when I told her and showed her that I woke up to bed bug bites. Stay there if you want bed bug bites and unfriendly front desk manager.
- hollykP8094RE (8/5): Amazing stay! - The beds were comfortable, the service was amazing, all around it was a very welcoming stay! The history books throughout the room were very interesting! I loved it! We also felt that it was super affordable! The rooms were very clean and tidy!
- Cruiser62091077054 (10/5): Good place to stay! - The room is very comfortable, clean, welcoming. All staff has been kind and welcoming. There is a great touch screen in the lobby with super information on the resort amenities, how to get around Fairbanks and things to do in Fairbanks. I wish every hotel and resort had such a help! We definitely recommend this place to stay!
- Jack (10/5): - Everything what’s not to say
- blackbluehonda (10/5): Enjoyable - Great place to be with stuff around plus enjoyed the Northern Lights with the darkness by the lake and trails
- Melanie (10/5): - Try friendly
- Diane (10/5): - Check-in staff extremely helpful and friendly. Restaurant staff delightful.
- shoghig (8/5): - Quiet
Friendly staff
Spacious room
Close to town
- marshabill2024 (10/5): Almost perfect. - Staying at the Bear Lodge was an enjoyable experience. Our room was large and clean and comfortable. We were surprised however that for a multi-day stay, housekeeping only comes on the 4th day, and therefore it is your responsibility to monitor your toilet paper supply, your towel supply, and your wastebaskets. There are also a limited number of electrical outlets for charging your electronics, and some convenient built-in usb ports would have been greatly appreciated.
The Bear Lodge is close to some great nature walks, as well as Creamer’s Field for wildlife viewing. The grounds are nicely kept with superb flower gardens. The personnel are also friendly and helpful. All in all, a great place to stay.
- q4ufwdsivv (10/5): Ready to Go Comfort and Location - The airport shuttle and on-site hiking options made this property a top pick when selecting my accommodations. Although the restaurant was closed for breakfast at 10:30 am, the location allowed for a quick pivot to a local restaurant that was recommended by the front desk staff. Clean, easy check-in and out. I would keep Bear Lodge as an option for future trips.
- 332rjohn (2/5): Not Good - My unfriendly check in at Bear Lodge, room wasn't ready at 4pm, waited another 45 minutes to check in, was told would come and get me when room ready, didn't happen.
- Bufflaloe (2/5): Find somewhere else to stay - My friend made the reservation for her room and mine . When we got to the hotel they had put her in one building and me in another building . So then I had to pay more to be placed back in the building where her room was located . Because the only room left had an extra bedroom that was my only option . They would not give me the rate my friend had been told I to pay more . The staff was very inconsiderate regarding the price of my room . Also the diverter in the shower did not work . The floor in the hall back near the bedroom squeaked . After the way the staff treated us in regards to the price of my room I will not stay with this hotel again .
- jevans158 (4/5): Wouldn't recommend - Poor location, there is a car alarm going off every hour all night in the hotel and security did nothing about it. Very poor management.
- Leslie (8/5): - This was a very nice Stay. Close to bird watching at Creamer's Field and close to the Fountainhead Antique Automobile and Fashion Museum. Food was good at the restaurant, actually, very good.
- Bernard E (8/5): - Was ok
- 325cadans (2/5): It’s a place to sleep - Room service only cleans every four days,WiFi does not work on most of the 3rd floor in my experience. Literally have to use cellular data to even post this. Also breakfast is $30. They also charge for laundry, minimum $6 for a washer and dryer. I will say the staff are nice at least, the fitness center is sub par though.
- Old54321 (6/5): Past its prime. - The grounds are beautiful; our room was clean; otherwise it’s a tired, dated, shop worn motel. Staff pretty much clueless and in no hurry to help you. I needed to print luggage tags for cruise. Asked if there was a business center; person at desk had no idea what I was asking for. Told her I needed to print something. She told me printer didn’t work but I could walk across the property which is huge to another building and use computer there. Turns out there was a business center in the coffee shop and the printer worked fine. Went to lobby early morning looking for coffee. There was none; guy at the desk told me they were running late and that coffee was only available in the restaurant and there was “no free coffee.” I have never stayed in a hotel that did not have complimentary coffee in the morning. Yes there was coffee maker in room but that stuff is always terrible. There is nothing nearby so don’t arrive hungry; restaurant and coffee shop in hotel were both closed. Buffet Breakfast was included in our tour and was very good. I would opt to stay in a chain hotel if I ever returned.
- Murphy (9/5): Good stay next time I'll come in earlier to check out the museum - Loved the bar. The 2 knuckleheads arguing with eachother while I was asking for a shuttle.
- abjb627 (6/5): Cruise hotel - We were lucky to have stayed in the same hotel where the cruise had us booked for the next night. Our stay wasn’t anything to brag about other than that
- Mike (10/5): The staff was very friendly and accommodating -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Timothy (7/5): everything was good - it was good it was old
- 620barbn (10/5): Friendly & Courteous Staff, Very Clean - Three of us stayed at Bear Lodge. The check in clerk was very friendly & helpful. Our room was clean & spacious for a double queen room. The bed was comfortable. We had a refrigerator & a microwave. We did not dine here. We hiked the trail that went around the little lake & saw two nesting tundra swans with their chicks. We took a tour that picked us up in the lobby of the hotel. We were in town for the Midnight Sun Run.
- LarryP1168 (6/5): Blah and inconvenient. - Nowhere close to downtown. You eat there or pay for a ride to/from downtown. Food is average and Alaska expensive. No room service. Furnished like a Choice type hotel. Staff seems totally indifferent. #16 rating seems too high. Go elsewhere.
- 373paull373 (4/5): Wasted time - Trying to check in 1.5 hours early. Sure, no problem. Wait 30 minutes. Then: should be ready soon. 30 minutes more. Finally were checked in at regular check in time. Wasted the afternoon with false promises.
Toilet would not flush. Worker came and plunged. Next day would not flush. Worker came, tried to give ME the plunger. No way
He left. Another worker came. Plunged. No success. Left. Returned with snake. This worked. Lots of our vacation time wasted.
- Mary (10/5): - After our VBRO cancelled last minute and had issues getting a refund. We went to Bear Lodge. The staff were open and friendly and went above and beyond to welcome us last minute. Rates were reasonable. The rooms were clean and the grounds were very nice. I will recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Helen (10/5): Comfortable & enjoyable - Polite, effective and efficient Prices
- L8324SGannaf (10/5): Great Fairbanks hotel. - This is a great place to stay. It has a roomy room with balcony’s,clean and well appointed. Beds are comfortable with nice linens and pillows. Staff is very nice and the breakfast Buffett is excellent! Central to several attractions including the antique auto museum and Creamer field.
- Una R (10/5): - Very helpful as we stayed to join Tour Group & we were allowed to stay in the same room. Great!
- Q9990XYjenniferd (10/5): Good experience - Great rooms, super spacious , very clean , friendly staff, museum was super cool with the antique cars and old clothes .
Breakfast was not good . We did go to eat shortly before closing for breakfast but the food was cold and old. Not worth $30.00 a person . We only made that mistake once .
- Ingagarcia (4/5): Think twice - We booked our trip as a business/pleasure trip with our 3 children (6,12,15) for 3 days during Spring Break. Upon checking in, the kids walked to the back room and found 2 bandaids on the bed and floor. We called the front desk and they sent 2 staff over to check our rooms. We were given a different room and found food trash under the beds and behind the nightstand. We settled in and found a decently stocked kitchen (can opener, hot pads, dishes, pots and pans, etc) it had a full sized fridge and oven and a small dining area. The pull out couch was unusable. The mattress is completely springs and dirty. One of our kids had to sleep on the couch without pulling it out. We settled down for the night and heard very loud running and it was shaking the entire building. It went on until after 11pm. We called the front desk and they sent someone out but couldn’t locate which room it was coming from. We were on the second floor (of 3 floors) and found out later, after speaking with our neighbors, that it came from the room under us. They heard it all the way to the third floor. Very poor insulation and you can hear everything. We left in the morning and when we returned, our key card was not working. I had to call the front desk and they told me they’d send someone to come help me. The person came but didn’t have replacement cards. We had to call back to get new cards. This happened the following day as well. Overall, the space worked size wise and was functional. The experience was very subpar and not accommodating for a family of 5. This hotel has great potential but needs updating and training for their staff.
- Perry (10/5): - Late arrival at the airport was no problem for the free shuttle pick up. 2:30 am check in was no problem either.
Breakfast was expensive but most everything is in Alaska.
- Tracey (10/5): - Many indoor and outdoor common areas to relax and socialize.
- Daniel (10/5): - O
- Noel (10/5): - Great atmosphere
- Thomas (10/5): Nice, quiet stay. Too high cost. - We were not part of a tour group, so it seemed pretty quiet. We were told by a front desk clerk most of the occupants were from tour groups, explaining an empty parking lot. It was also mentioned that if you were not part of a tour group the rates are much higher. This was disappointing to hear.
- Lydia (10/5): - Nice hotel. Great service
- Churroz (10/5): - Thank you for the room. I really enjoyed it and really appreciate it.
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Blaine (1/5): Rude management. Filthy room because it was never cleaned. - The room was a good size. But it became dirty since no one cleaned it for the 3 days I was there. After I checked in I found out the hotel only cleans rooms every 4 days. I was staying there for 3 days, so it was not cleaned the whole time. There is nothing worse than coming back to a dirty messy room after a long day. I called the front desk to ask for an exception to the policy - after all, I was paying $ 300 a night. A very rude manager named Ruth told me it was a COVID policy that they had decided to keep ( obviously to save money) and there was nothing that could be done about it. She said I could go find another hotel and there would be no refund.
- Gail (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kris (3/5): It made me unhappy - I could not have been further from the desk unless I was on the 3 floor. I have a bad back and the walk was to long The room was to warm the lack of local television it
- Lynn (8/5): - The person that picked us up from the airport at midnight was happy informative and went way beyond taking care of us. The room was large and pretty , best we've had so far. My only complaint would be no food, but actually that has been an ongoing problem. I love this place, I'd stay again.
- Dewayne74 (10/5): Exceptional - The neighborhood has a great friend feeling to it 🙂 Didn't like the whole issue and the misunderstanding that security was having with me and my
- Jacqueline (9/5): Superb -
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (4/5): Wont be back! - Paid over $300/night and not even an included breakfast!
$20 for the Buffett…which had great variety…but for the price of the room, should’ve been included. Staff was not courteous.
No microwave in room.
Limited outlets for charging.
- Heather (8/5): - Was fine
- Farron (10/5): Great views - Quiet location and the sounds from the river really helped the overall ambiance.
- Valerie (8/5): - Had a nice stay with a very spacious room. Women at front desk seemed a bit grumpy. Did not have much interaction with staff because of covid.
- stephanie (8/5): VERY SMALL ROOM - This was one of the smallest rooms I have ever stayed in. I travel with a lot of stuff and this small room really cramped my style.
- Richard (8/5): A little lonely...but a great resort - Our stay was very pleasant. The hotel was clean and the staff helpful and pleasant! The Bear Lodge is part of a larger resort eith lots to do. We were here at the end of the season so there were very few people at our location and the front desk at our building was never manned so it felt weird and alone. The restaurant was closed, vending machines unplugged, no coffee, etc. Not too many restaurants within close walking distance. But we liked the resort and would stay again earlier in the season
- Spring (4/5): - Was not what what it
- Timothy (8/5): A roof over my head - Check in process was slow. Communication about what to expect during my stay was not there. No cleaning of room during stay. Bathroom and room was not as clean as I would have liked upon arrival. Was relatively quiet overall.
- Srinivas (6/5): - Understaffed and therefore no reception facility. Wish this was made clear as part of standard instructions.
- Glenn (6/5): - Had to wait 1 hour after check in time for room to be ready.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Arrived at 4:15 pm for check-in. My room wasn’t ready and they said they would call me after about 30 minutes. When I finally got my room, the key cards did not work so I had to return to the front desk which then had about 10 parties in line awaiting check-in. Finally got in my room at 5:20 pm.
