- Usman (10/5): Better than what I expected - I recently stayed at this hotel in the Lake District with my family for five nights. Our main goal was to climb Scafell Pike, and this hotel stood out as the nearest option within my price range. Initially, I didn’t have very high expectations (despite the good reviews), but those quickly changed once we arrived. The location was peaceful and quiet, the car park was large and well-planned, and the room exceeded my expectations—it was far more spacious than any hotel room I’ve stayed in before. The staff were warm, humble, and genuinely welcoming, which added to the experience. Breakfast was included in the price and was a real highlight. Instead of a standard buffet, you order from a menu (available online), and the food is freshly prepared for you. There were plenty of options, including vegetarian and vegan choices, which I thought was excellent. The bathroom was also very spacious and clean. The only small drawbacks were that the sofa bed was only a single (despite there being enough room for a double), and the showerhead over the bathtub was fixed. The location was very convenient—just a 25-minute drive to Scafell Pike and about 40 minutes to the west coast, where towns like Whitehaven and Workington offer plenty of restaurants (including McDonald’s, KFC, and Domino’s for budget options), as well as major supermarkets like Morrisons, ASDA, and Tesco. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would happily return. Highly recommended.

- Natalia (8/5): - We have booked twin rooms, however ended up with double and sofa bed in both rooms which was not ideal as we were hiking early next morning and aofa beds were not comfortable at all. Staff was helpful hower they all looked like they are not really enjoying what they do..
- Prem Singh (10/5): - Excellent hotel, nothing to complain about. Stayed here to go to scafell pike which was around 25 minutes drive away. Also a beach around 10 minutes drive away. Hotel has a large car park, great outdoor space to sit as well. Only down side was we went to pool room and it was locked, got the staff to open it and got change for the table from the bar. Just as we were going to start playing noticed one cue was broken in half and the other the tip was missing. Dart board not in the best condition. So we left the room. Breakfast was great and served large portions, only down side was the next day tried the pancakes and those were only two litter ones you get. Also the food came out really fast once ordered. Overall great experience and would recommend to others. Nice, clean and friendly happy staff.

- Abbie (6/5): Didn’t give us the room we had paid for - Had booked a deluxe room for more room but when we arrived we were allocated a standard room. I went to reception to change our room and they said they did not have any deluxe rooms left and that it was Expedia who shouldn’t have let me book this type of room. I asked for a refund but they said no, so I asked for a meal that evening on the house as I’d paid extra for this room and we hadn’t go it, they said no. Didn’t want to give us anything. 2 terrible nights of sleep with uncomfortable beds and people slamming doors early in the morning. Food was average. Wouldn’t stay again.

- PANAGIOTIS (8/5): - Overall staying is good, heating was off during the night, there isn't any sufficient soundproofing and you could hear noises/tanks from corridor, wash hand basin and self was very close and you every time you wanted to wash your face the water spilled on the floor. Staff is very friendly, food variety and very good quality!

Breakfast was really nice, plenty of options, delicious and a chill atmosphere. The cabin itself was gorgeous, overlooking the mountains and inside was a cozy space. Although it was small, it’s the perfect size for me and my partner. Bathroom was really clean and the shower was great. We had a small fridge and freezer to put what we needed in and the tv worked well when used. The staff were nice and accommodating, generally calm and chill which was nice. Overall I highly recommend this hotel to stay if you want to climb Scafell and see what the area has to offer, it was only a 20 minute drive to Scafell as well so a great location.

- Karl (10/5): Great room, food, hospitality will be back - We got given room #1 which was the disabled access room and was very big with a huge bed and big bathroom, slight issue with the shower as did not get very hot (informed staff) was ground level with patio access so great for nipping to car, the evening meal was fabulous we got the Kellbank Burger & local farmers potatoe homemade chips which were proper good, big portion of choc brownie desert each and a couple of beers and price was very reasonable for the quality of food, we was up for brekkie at 7am for full english before a quick short wet hike, returned to nice warm room but still tepid shower, all in all its our goto place when in the area and will be back soon

They accommodated a room suitable for my mother and pulled a fold out bed for me as our original room was on the first floor. Room was spotless and the breakfast was a good size and lovely. Main meals we had in the bar seating area has we had our dog with us. Both main meals were a good size a lovely. The steak sour dough bread meal was amazing and the fish and chips was also lovely. Hard to believe this place is only 3 stars.

- Colin (8/5): Lakes stay. - Had a lovely couple of nights at the Kellbank which is well positioned for access to Scarfell and the surrounding area. Good reasonably priced food and drink served by friendly staff. Room was fairly basic but clean and comfortable. Would definately return.
- Ke (10/5): Everybody knows Tony - Have stayed at this place on various occasions and would consider nowhere else if travailing to the area. Giles was accommodating from the minute we walked in attentive to every need and the rest of the staff were fantastic! Even getting involved with the banter at the bar.. After being directed to the local pub in which is under the same management we were made to feel welcome by the locals who showed us a good time and left us both supporting a little bit of a foggy head the next morning. Turns out everybody knows Tony Knowles and we made plenty of new friends.. We carried our stay over to the following night and took advantage of their fantastic room service and even ate desert in bed!

- Kate (4/5): - Disappointing. I treated myself to this hotel rather than going to a Premier Inn. I wish I hadn't bothered. Arrived at the hotel and followed the signs to the accommodation, then had to walk through the dining room to try & find check-in. Some signage could help with this. The hotel manager was clearly busy and made me feel like an inconvenience. He sped through the check-in process which wasn't very welcoming. The room was lovely, although the view out to a yard with bins wasn't great. I was woken at 7.50am by housekeeping banging on my door and trying to get in my room. There's a key drop, so it would make more sense to me to clean the rooms when people have clearly checked out. I went to breakfast, no staff seen. The menu said to help myself to cereal and coffee, which I did, although the coffee was empty. A staff member appeared and was a bit rude about me helping myself to cereal. He was also clearly put out that I wanted a cooked breakfast. I couldn't bring myself to mention the empty cafetiere. This was not noticed for the 30 minutes I was in the dining room. The same staff member proceeded to have a conversation with other guests about how inconvenient it is that guests dont check out until 11am (the check-out time) at the weekend, which doesn't leave them enough time to clean rooms before the next guests arrive. Clearly they need to hire more staff, ideally ones better suited to a customer-facing role.
- Liz (10/5): - We arrived really late 11.30 as we were lost on the fells due to a bridge closure and our sat nav had issues. We had regular calls with really helpful chap. All staff very friendly. Very dog friendly. Room was dated but very clean. We had lovely food. A nice stay.

Great food in the bar and also a hearty breakfast before we headed out hiking. The staff could not have been more welcoming. Our only issue was that the radiator in the bathroom didn't work but not a huge issue

I was worried when I saw it was a pub and restaurant as well as a hotel, but the accommodation was separate so not noisy. The room was spacious, clean and modern. Nice bathroom, beds a bit hard but that suits me. Generous breakfast. Highly recommend and would definitely return.

- Emma (10/5): - We loved how dog friendly this hotel was. We booked to stay for one night after climbing Scafell Pike with our 2 dogs. It was great to be able to have dinner at the hotel after our climb and for our dogs to be able to sit with us in the bar area. Food was excellent- reasonable price with quite a few vegan options including 2 puddings which was great to see (and always a good excuse to treat ourselves!!). We had missed the breakfast time in the morning but staff were really accomodating and the chef made us an amazing breakfast, again with a vegan option. He also had sausages for the dogs! Really close to scafell pike and a perfect spot to relax after a days climb

The room was a bit small (especially with a labrador) and slightly dated. The bed was very uncomfortable and our room was next to a security light that never went off. The room only had a roller blind that didnt fit the window properly, so it was very bright during the night.

- Mark (10/5): - The kellbank was a lovely hotel but a couple of things need to improve we got two ribeye steaks with onion rings when the meal came we was gob smacked the the onion ring was a bag of frozen ones not home made the meal was let down bye this I would have give this 10 of 10 but it a 9 because of that plus on the Saturday we did not eat at the kellbank but we had a drink there on the night time we did not know we needed to book a table just to have a drink all the tables was reserved some people came in the bar just to wait till the restaurant was free so every time they put a reserve the table for the next people who was waiting the bar area this should be a place to sit and have a drink as well as eat we was staying there these people that was coming in for food was there to eat in the restaurant they only thought about where the next buck was coming from not looking after the people who was staying there

The member of staff showed us to the bar where we enjoyed local ale and beer before showing us to our room which was ready an hour early (much appreciated). The accommodation from the outside doesn’t look pleasing but the room we had (19) although rather small was very well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and a window in the room that actually opened all the way. Black out blind was fully appreciated and the bathroom was spacious with a great working shower, even us decaf coffee lovers were catered for and the WiFi was great. The downsides for me was the noise from the gravel and the kitchen outside our room and the temperature in the room - it was very hot. We enjoyed a meal last night at the Kellbank - the food did take rather a while to come out but you don’t mind waiting when the food was top notch I had a steak and onion balsamic flat bread with chips and a salad and my other half had the steak and ale pie and both were delicious. The desserts were incredible too. Breakfast was a full English - lovely produce but maybe a full slice of black pudding rather than half. Would certainly recommend.
- Dewight (6/5): - staff were good room was very nice. we has tea in the room at no extra cost and no fuss from the staff. breakfast was good. the only thing i found odd the room didn't get cieaned when we got back everything was in the same place we left it with no clean towel etc, if this was down to covid i thought they would have mentioned it on check in. besides that the hotel was very good
- Joshua (8/5): - Hotel was nice, food was really tasty, hotel is advertised as dog friendly however the room was very small if you have anything larger than a terrier, we stayed for 2 nights and the room didn't get any service during our stay, I would visit the area again but look for alternative accommodation as we have a very large dog.

- Susan (8/5): Dont pick room 21 - Our room (comfort double room 21) was compact with ensuite. Due to the very hot weather we had to leave the window open to cool the room down. Next door's bathroom window was adjacent to our bedroom window so we were able to hear (as their window was open) all the gentleman's ablusions and his half of a phone conversation. At 6.30am a sound reminesant of a tumble dryer started adding to the room temperature and disturbing sleep, coupled by hearing in detail the staff conversation! Overall the decor was good but the wardrobe had some paint that had pealed off its edge. Staff were friendly and helpful and still adhering to the covid restrictions on 19th July which was appreciated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Location, Modern Rooms & Excellent Staff - First and foremost I have to say that The Kellbank's staff are amazing. Every single one of them made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. Can't compliment them enough. The rooms are made for 2021 & beyond - an abundance of power/USB outlets, digital TV inc some Sky/BT premium channels ANNND true fast WiFi (all things major chains could learn from!). Also spacious & hot showers and comfortable beds. The bar is well stocked with local ales & a vast array of gins, if you're into them. Plus, in these times, their CV19 protocols were A1 inc the option to eat outdoors if so desired. I would say, however, that their website is slightly erroneous about all room locations being away from sources of noise. Room 22 is near the kitchen's commercial ducting for the extractor which, when fired up 20 or 30 mins before breakfast, sounds like you're next to a Boeing 747! Prob OKish if you're there one night but a week, definitely not, particularly when Mon-Fri breakfast starts at 6.30am. We were moved immediately by the excellent staff when we raised the issue. Sadly, our restaurant experiences weren't great which was disappointing given that others have been so complimentary & awards have been received. Perhaps we were just unlucky but again, the staff were beyond apologetic & explained feedback is always used to improve (again, something other hotels/restaurants could learn from). Despite those quibbles, The Kellbank is a mighty fine, well-placed gem and we'll definitely stay again.

Staff were very friendly. Food is available at the restaurant/bar. Good food with good portions. Free car Park available onsite.

- Karen (10/5): Lovely room, fantastic food - We came to The Kellbank for a night so we could go walking. It might not look much from the outside, but our family room was huge, clean and very comfortable. We brought our dog, who was very well catered for. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant but can go in the bar, so the staff moved us to a bar table for both breakfast and our evening meal. All our food was fantastic. Staff were all really friendly and accommodating, chatting away to our 6 year old and our dog. Great hotel, very highly recommended.

- Verified traveler (4/5): - Was not happy with the state of the fridge. It was off on arrival and had a jar of stale milk. No one cleaned that fridge throughout our stay. The bin was emptied but some of the rubbish from the bin was on the floor. Dirty towels left on the floor. There was a function room behind our room and children were bashing on the walls. One of the ladies that worked there was really polite and dealt with the situation in a professional manner.

- Mike (8/5): dog friendly and free - enjoyed our 2 nights 3 days up in the Lakes stayed with our dog Max. Initially not a good start at reception had to wait a while for some one to come. He was dealing with a Christmas meal booking which took a long time ! we had travelled a long way and were tired and in need of a drink particularly our dog. eventually got our room key and settled into our small but clean and comfortable room. It was clean and the bathroom was spotless and had toiletries. The carpet ion the entrance to our room was frayed and needed replacing could have caused a trip. It was very warm and the room was too! slept with window open but still melting! The breakfast served in the bar with our dog was excellent set up ready for us the first day. But not set up on the second day. The meal in the eve was good but the service was very slow and people waited over 30 mins for their meals some longer! The waitress was rushed off her feet as was the bar tender. But one staff member was sitting with a drink at the end of the bar on his mobile.? May have finished his shift? but didn't look good when obviously more help needed either in the kitchen or waiting on tables. Our dog was spoilt at breakfast by being given a sausage. The first dog friendly we have stayed where no charge was made. A good marketing ploy as it encouraged us to eat and drink in their bar.

The room was a little dated but had everything we needed and was immaculate, especially for a dog friendly room! The staff were amazing, all very helpful and friendly. Lovely surroundings and attached to a popular pub restaurant.
