Amber (10/5): - I've stayed in my fair share of five star hotels but this was by far the best overall hotel experience I've ever had. It's an absolutely beautiful property right on the water with so much charm, and the location is perfect. You can walk or ride their bikes to pretty much everything. The hotel also offers a BMW car service that's very lux and convenient. The rooms are extremely comfortable. But what really makes this such a special place is the staff. The service was 11/10 in all parts of the hotel. Can't wait to go back!
Phuong (10/5): Perfect stay for a couples vacation - Had a 5-star weekend at this hotel. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned and checked on often (they leave you chocolate and weather forecast for the next day every night!) We got lucky and the pool was just opened on our last day so we got to enjoyed it. Also loved the location as it's super easy to go grab a bite/check out local shops anytime and there are free bikes you can use whenever!
Sheila (10/5): - Having been to Nantucket several times over 30 years, we knew about the White Elephant and decided that for our 50th wedding anniversary we would stay there for a few days. From the minute we arrived, our experience could not have been better. The staff allowed us to store our luggage at the Inn until our room was ready as we were early so we went into town and walked around the harbor and had a bite to eat. As we walked into our room, the staff had told us that we had been upgraded and the room was awesome, with every amenity I could think of, and some that I couldn't, Another staff member knocked at our door about ten minutes after we arrived with a bottle of champagne and a plate of chocolate covered strawberries compliments of the Inn with a nice note wishing us congratulations on our anniversary. When I told the staff member that we didn't drink and he could take the bottle back, he asked if there was something he could substitute and when I really couldn't think of anything, he asked if we liked smoothies. I said we love smoothies and within minutes he came back with 2 of the best banana strawberry smoothies we had ever had. He didn't have to do that but it spoke to the level of care given to your guests. From the cookies and breads and charcuterie that was put out over the day and the waters delivered to our room, the service was very kind and genuine and we had never been treated like that. We can only say, thank you for the trip of a lifetime.

awolford128 (10/5): Great Memorial Day Weekend! - We loved our stay at the White Elephant. The pre-arrival concierge was very helpful in answering our questions. The concierge at the hotel was very accommodating, providing transportation to our dinner reservations as needed and scheduling a taxi to the airport. We took the shuttle to Topper's one night and loved it. I would suggest making your own reservations beforehand. Most all things are walkable from the hotel. We stayed in a One Bedroom Residence and appreciated the extra space. The hotel's location, service, and amenities are the things that would bring us back to the White Elephant!

Roger (9/5): An absolutely first-rate hotel in a very good location and with excellent staff - This is a great hotel. The location is very convenient. The hotel is newly and very stylishly renovated. The staff were excellent - the check in was particularly helpful, as we arrived early on a ferry and they held our luggage and placed it in our room when it was ready (and notified me by fax). The room was large and super clean. The linens and toiletries were absolutely top quality. The concierge was very helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant was very high quality (but a bit pricey - see below). The gym was very light and clean, with top-qualify (Technogym) equipment. The restaurant, while very good, was a bit pricey. Nothing else.

Sally (10/5): I would recommend staying at the White Elephant Hotel - This is an excellent hotel. The hotel offers a shuttle from the ferry to their property. They have bikes that guests can use. In addition, they have several snacks to offer throughout the day (pastries at breakfast, cookies during mid-day and cheese and wine ahead of dinner time). The staff was excellent, warm and friendly.

adrianasN975EF (4/5): Couldn't pay me to comeback - I was excited and very much looking forward to my stay at The White Elephant. For the rate I was paying, I most definitely expected for my vacation to be a treat. Upon arrival, I quickly learned that The White Elephant was anything but a treat. At check in, I encountered a very rude front desk staff. I had an issue with my nightly rate and instead of offering options I was told " I am not going to go back and forth with you.". My option was to stay and take it or leave and not be refunded by money. The majority of the staff I encountered were rude and unaccommodating.My interactions were short and but mostly not sweet. I was not asked what brought me to the island, if I had plans or if I needed recommendations. The unpleasant attitudes from the majority of the staff, kept me from even approaching the breakfast restaurant to avoid more sour moments. There was no customer service, the front desk staff saw me standing at the concierge desk waiting to be helped for about 15 minutes and could not be bothered to tell me that the concierge had left at 5pm. The housekeeper walked in while I was changing and instead of apologizing she said " JESUS" and asked if I was still going to need turn down service. From what I gather, there is a clique of Jamaican staff that are on the island for the season. I stayed in a garden cottage and was not impressed by the accommodations. The bathroom is tiny, the bedroom is overtaken by the large bed and the living room couch is uncomfortable. There were no drinks in the mini fridge. It is truly a shame that such a wonderful and beautiful island be tainted by such poor treatment of its guests. It is important to note that my stay was The second weekend in October, I cannot imagine the treatment during peak season while the island is packed. The silver lining is that my horrible experience at the White Elephant incentivized me to get out and see more of the island. The free shuttle drivers were the only pleasant members of the staff. Thank you, Clive for showing interest in my stay. I will definitely return to beautiful and charming Nantucket but will not return and will not recommend The White Elephant.
madamoiselle_may (10/5): An end of summer stay - perfection! - Catching the tail end of summer, two friends of mine and I spent a couple of nights at White Elephant and could easily see why it’s been named a premier place to stay on Nantucket. We arrived midday before the guaranteed check in so we left our belongings with the friendly bell staff, made ourselves coffee at the convenient and complimentary barista stand in the lobby, and browsed through the colorful gift shop. Next we relaxed on the plush lounge chairs on the lawn along the waterfront, which was spectacular. When our harbor view room was ready, we were blown away by how bright and spacious it was and with a balcony to boot. All of the elephant touches are adorable from the privacy sign to the door knockers to the elephant pillow on the bed. The location is perfect with town easily accessed on foot or with one of the hotel’s cruiser bikes. Dinner at Topper's at the Wauwinet, White Elephant's sister hotel, is also a must for the sunset, the Grand Award-winning wine list, delicious menu, and the service. I wish I had more time to spend though two nights made for a memorable trip at the most perfect property. (And the pillows and mattresses and turndown treats will always lure us back!)

MelissaP234 (8/5): It's all about Expectations - It's Nantucket so this hotel is PRICEY - so I suppose I was a bit put off by the laissez faire attitude of the staff. Reception is like that of a Hampton Inn, both figuratively and literally ( here's the key - coffee is over by the kiosk - check out is 11 a.m. ). So if you want to plan any experiences on Nantucket, just google it and get it in the books before you get there. The concierge, once found, was luke-warm and seemed to have mentally checked out for the summer. This being said, our accommodations were lovely, clean and well appointed, though the exterior courtyard could benefit from some TLC. Housekeeping was efficient and timely and the doormen super helpful when needed. Location is great - near town but a few blocks removed from the heavily touristed area.

michaelh10013 (8/5): Wonderful location and well appointed - Nicely renovated with attention to detail in a beautiful location. Some rooms with Harbor view are small but certainly adequate. We visited on LD weekend so it was predictably pricey. Restaurant has a gorgeous location and food was plentiful and good. Special mention goes to the front desk manager Mitchell Wade who was both efficient and friendly. Suggestion for improvement would be a proper spa with steam room and sauna.

Charles (6/5): - Room rates are the equivalent of European coastal hotels ( Capri) without the amenities of European hotels and without the hospitalities. Pool is not impressive. Residence ballroom should be converted to dining. Plastic container in Residence lobby for breakfast pastries is minimal and not deserving of the White Elephant. Loose bricks not maintained in steps from Residences and require maintenance in addition to elevator rug which is dirty/stained. Cushions on outside chairs require cleaning. -Hotel grounds are not impressive- especially compared to Wauwinet grounds. Disappointed in value received. Could be so much better! Positives are transportation offered and friendly front desk staff.
Sprezzaturafl (6/5): Not worth the premium pricing - During my recent stay at the White Elephant, I couldn't help but reflect on my expectations. Despite the hotel's exceptional location, I found that the level of cleanliness, maintenance, and service did not align with the premium pricing. Furthermore, I overheard a few incidents of misplaced luggage and encountered guests expressing surprise at the high cost compared to other luxurious destinations. While I cherish Nantucket, I must admit that I may not be inclined to revisit this particular establishment.

gen40 (10/5): Wonderful place to stay and lovely staff - We stayed with our 5 year old in the two bedroom residence at the White Elephant in July . Nantucket is charming and our stay started well. We were collected by the hotel staff at the ferry point. Check in was friendly and welcoming. The residences are two minutes walk from reception. Staff were very pleasant and always smiling. The ambiance is relaxed and calm. Our rooms were spotless and beautifully presented. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of making everything look pretty and comfortable. We had a small kitchen area with everything we would need. The pool area was great. It was enclosed and there were children activities for a couple of hours a day. The girls working there were so kind and sweet to my daughter. A pool bar offered a few things to eat and drink ( both soft drinks and cocktails) . The hotel residences location are close to the children’s beach and also to the shops and restaurants . The hotel provided a shuttle service to the beach further away and provided an umbrella and chairs for us . There are nice little snacks served at reception in the morning and cheese and port in the afternoon . Everything was delightful. We really liked all the staff and found the customer service very good.
JessicaHSF (10/5): Favorite Hotel! - The White Elephant is one of our absolute favorite hotels. We've stayed there two years in a row to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The amenities offered are incredible: Bikes to borrow at our leisure, a shuttle to the beach with chairs and towels, and even a house car (BMW) to explore the island. We've enjoyed stays in both the Harborside hotel and Garden Cottages. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. The staff is friendly and goes above and beyond. The White Elephant is worth every penny and a must-stay. We will be back next July.

sarahdA5470PO (4/5): Experience not commensurate with price tag - Booked a 3-night stay at the White Elephant July 28-31st 2024 for a belated birthday getaway for my husband. We stayed in the Harborside Hotel in a Harborview Room with King Bed Deck or Patio for $2195/night (not inclusive of additional taxes). The rate was offensive given the room size, amenities and service. Check-in felt like being processed, no warm smiles or inquiries about what brings us to Nantucket. We were able to access the room around 1p Sunday and found it sparsely appointed and lacking the amenities of a luxury hotel. There were two cans of still water in the mini fridge, no fresh fruit or treats to be found, dated stereo (not Bose or Bang & Olufsen bluetooth), nary a throw blanket to be found in the room, tiny bathroom i.e. the bathroom door and shower cannot open simultaneously or they knock each other, L'Occitane toiletries are installed in the shower wall for refills instead of the usual travel size bottles you'd expect at high end resorts. On the upside the pillows, mattress and sheets were quality. Sunday morning we dined at Brant Point Grill which offered a $75 per person open brunch menu (a la carte not being offered for brunch). The omelette station had someone standing next to a plugged in wok with bowls of all pre-cooked veggies and sides: pre-sauteed spinach, pre-sauteed onions, pre-cooked red peppers, etc so nothing added to the omelette besides the eggs and cheese was freshly cooked which was reflected in the taste. Sunday night we had a reservation at Straight Wharf. It was pouring when we left the hotel and there were no umbrellas to be found in our room. When we arrived the lobby no one opened the front door or offered an umbrella to get us to the car. We were told "the car is waiting outside" so we let ourselves out in to the pouring rain went to and from the car in the rain and arrived dinner soaking wet. As an aside, dinner at Straight Wharf was phenomenal and the highlight of our stay. There is complimentary early risers coffee and breakfast snacks offered at Brant Point Grill from 7-10a daily and the coffee was hit or miss (my husband wakes early and would go at 7a and then again later for a refresh). Excellent morning coffee should be an essential staple at a luxury hotel. Sometimes it was ok other times we dumped it and walked to town for a fresh cup. The fireplace in our room was in need of repair. It operated on a timer and it would shut off mid-timer and could not be relit. Monday night we asked someone to repair it and the tech who came to the room let us know the igniter needed to be replaced which would involve him taking the fireplace out of the wall something we decided to hold off on until the next day. The next morning we called and asked about the fireplace repair repeating what the technician told us that the ignitor needed to be replaced. We were told no problem it could be handled while we were out. We came back after 2 hours and turned the fireplace on and it again went out 15 minutes after turning it on and couldn't be turned on again. Clearly the report from the serviceman from Monday night didn't make it to whoever was in charge Tuesday morning and my stating that the ingnitor needed to be replaced fell on deaf ears. We used the hotel bikes one day to bike to Downeyflake. The bike attendant appeared bothered that we needed assistance to get the bikes. My husband was given a bike with a deflated tire and when we asked for a new one the attendant was clearly off-put. The vast majority of employees lacked the genial demeanor and competence (ex. providing an umbrella in a rain storm) expected at a resort with these prices. Katie at the concierge desk was lovely. She was the only employee I came across that provided assistance with a smile and seemed eager to provide service and give knowledgeable answers to any questions I had about beaches, biking, town etc. Overall service and amenities were far too lacking to justify the cost of our stay. The hotel needs a refresher course on hospitality. A fruit bowl and comfy throw blanket in the rooms wouldn't hurt either.
tim (10/5): - I have been to Nantucket many times. This was my first stay at the White Elephant with my family of 5. The hotel was wonderful , spacious with excellent staff. It is in the perfect area very close to town but still quiet and peaceful. Their Brandt point restaurant was excellent. I will definitely return in the near future Thank you White Elephant for a wonderful vacation .
LA1005 (10/5): Repeat visit and will be back - Love the White Elephant, we just returned from a 5 night stay. It was just as good as last year. We requested the same room in advance and got it. Check in was great as room was ready at 1pm. Service was great with everyone we encountered. We love the location as we were able to walk most everywhere we wanted to go. The pool was nice with very friendly staff. One hiccup was the air conditioner went out in the entire hotel for about 15 hrs but we were out most of the time except to shower and sleep and they brought us a fan and we opened windows. It was fixed quickly considering they had to get repairs from mainland.

Had a lovely stay last summer and was eager to return this summer. Days after booking online, received an email from the hotel that they would not accept our infant. The reservations staff were unhelpful, condescending, and unapologetic. Although the grounds are beautiful and the location is superb, money is better spent somewhere that embraces hospitality and values their customers.

The staff was one of the best I've ever encountered: friendly, helpful, and upbeat. The heated pool was a plus! Although we did not take advantage of it, they will drop off and pick up guests at any location within a mile radius. The room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. There are two BMW EVs available to drive (by lottery) at 9 AM and 4 PM. We were lucky enough to win one of the slots so we could drive around the island. This was a nice touch! It would have been nice to have one additional chair in the room (even a small one). Although they offer rides to/from the ferry, there wasn't a shuttle to or from the airport. I believe we could have used the town shuttle, but weren't provided with any information ahead of time, so we weren't aware of that option. I would have liked to see a courtesy shuttle to and from the airport (even if it stopped at other hotels). We are early risers - it would be nice if coffee/pastries had been provided starting at 7 AM (instead of 8).

They scheduled all our events for us including a couples massage and sunset sail. Our room was even upgraded. They provided us with rides in BMWs when needed and the staff was 15/10. I was prepared for my view to be blocked because of a tent put up for the wine festival but I had no idea the whole back outdoor area would be blocked off. Spending well over $1,000/night for no view and zero outdoor space left me feeling incredibly disappointed.
