- Donna (5/5): Passable - It was near where we needed to be Thought it was very tired
- Richard (3/5): Its a nice spot, but very tired internally and the beds/line, pillows towels are terrible - The location was good as were the gardens Its tired and bathrooms/shower are tiny. Requires investment to modernize and bring up to scratch from bed linen to decor for a price tag without breakfast. Noise from the adjacent function room until late in the evening.
- Anonymous (10/5): Great weekend in this gorgeous old building with original features! - Loved this property - gorgeous old and original features all over, very comfy, friendly staff, lovely gardens with a pond & Lillie’s, great bathroom! Highly recommend!
- Chitra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lesley (5/5): Hotel only adequate - not good. - Location good for what I required Breakfast was not available until 8am which is when I needed to go, so NO breakfast. Should be available earlier.
Bed was adequate but not particularly comfortable, and pillows lumpy.
Not terribly welcoming. Receptionist obviously just waiting for me to arrive so she could go home.
- Anonymous (10/5): Excellent stay with helpful staff - Staff were very accommodating, the room was very comfortable and the building had amazing character. Nothing
- Chris (10/5): Out of this world experience. - This is an amazing old country hall with some extra special features.

- Sharon (9/5): Lovely place with character - Breakfast isn't included.
You can have breakfast in the tea room in the next building. Four poster bed canopy broken. Apparently a previous guest decided to pull it to pieces. Such ashame.
- Macpherson (8/5): Very good - Lovely hotel Wish breakfast was included and in the hotel
- Robert (10/5): Great - The room was outstanding. Bathroom was outstanding Nithing

- David (9/5): Lovely hotel. - Architecture. Interior. Comfort. Nothing
- Rhodes (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location and a gorgeous room.
Extremely comfortable bed! It was tricky to find staff to check in with as there was a wedding reception in full swing - but it wasn't a massive issue!
- Anonymous (10/5): Stunning hotel beautiful environment - Superb property beautiful!! NA
- Neil (8/5): Lovely property, easy to miss on arrival. - Lovely room. No other guests, no staff visible, restaurant shut.
- Andriana (3/5): Poor - The location was great and clean. The room was nice e and clean. Entrance to hotel was unclear, lack signage. The receptionist appeared to want to just get paid for the room and hand the keys over so she could get on with her day. There were no toiletries in the ensuite. The kettle had to be plugged in on the floor as the lead was not long enough, which was a health and safety concern. No non-slip Matt for the shower and towels appeared worn
The legs on both chairs were broken. On leaving nobody on reception, so left key on the desk. Hotel has lots of potential, and it just needs finesse
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (3/5): Poor quality bed, lights and shower not working. Won't stay again. - The location was nice The bed was saggy, terrible nights sleep. Had a metal frame, which made viewing the TV awkward.
The main light in the bathroom didn't work and the shower would only run cold.
No food available except breakfast at 8am, no good when you start work before then.
- Boden (9/5): Excellent hotel great location - Lovely old building Nothing
- Zoe (1/5): Save your money and go elsewhere! - Location was ok Booked the Bouquet room, checked in only to be given another room as someone else asked for the Bouquet room when I queried this!! Staff member nonchalant after waiting in excess of 10 minutes for them to show up for check in!! Room was not in keeping with the old style property, cheap MDF style furniture. Very Basic room at best. Not worth £125 for a room with one (1) adult, breakfast NOT included, amenities non existent! Nearly missed the soap tucked under the sink (thankfully I always bring my own). Mattress awful and uncomfortable. Pillows with no pillow protectors. Hand written instructions in bathroom for shower use! (Button instruction incorrect when in fact you turn a tap not a button in the shower)! Kettle takes a lifetime to boil but at least you had that facility… I was able to shower including washing hair before the kettle boiled!! Did not eat breakfast here, only serves from 9am and 10am as choice of two places. Wish I’d stayed somewhere else and did more research! Absolutely not value for money. Service non existent. Beyond disappointed.
- Sharon (9/5): Lovely peaceful charactor hotel - Furnishings in line with the charactor of the property
Comfy bed & pillows
Friendly staff
Very quiet & beautiful surroundings Nothing to report
- Sadie (10/5): Exceptional -
- E (8/5): Country house style, nice quiet location - Stayed here many times. Friendly and quiet, quirky rooms. Bar, restaurant and breakfast services are in an adjacent building. Couldn’t turn the heating down, radiator control didn’t work
- Emilia (10/5): Exceptional - All was lovely although the onsite restaurant was closed, but the nearby one was excellent.
- Alan (6/5): Ok - Lovely old house. Plenty of parking. Clean room. Loved the old furniture. Modern bathroom. Towels a bit threadbare. No plug in sink so difficult for my husband to shave. Asked for a plug but was told to use the men’s bathroom downstairs. No food Mon/tues/wed. Breakfast served in an adjacent cafe. Walls thin so could hear the next door neighbours talking. Staff did bare minimum.
- Julie (7/5): Good - Great location and stunning hotel inside. Staff really nice but they didn't really seem to want to interact with guests. Which was a shame. Was shown to our room but no offer of showing us around hotel or grounds. We explored the place on our own. Still not stopped us from going back.
- Iain (9/5): Superb -
- Carol (8/5): Very good -
- Mike (9/5): Superb - Restaurant serves excellent breakfast, which is good value for money
- Arthur (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (8/5): Nice place and lovely staff - Friendly staff. Sound insulation wasn’t great

- Charmaine (5/5): Passable - Very comfy bed
- Achu (8/5): Very good -
- Dowler (9/5): Superb - Access to canals No problems except it is sold and will cease to be a hotel.
- Kath (4/5): Disappointing - Lovely old building. Good location. Only lukewarm water. Items under the bed. Table lamp didn't work. No breakfast until 8am.
- Marie (8/5): Very good -
- Lizzy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Allen (6/5): Pleasant -
- Emma (9/5): A lovely little gem, highly recommended. - Beautiful historic house, thoughtfully restored. Cosy room and a very comfy bed. Very polite and unobtrusive staff. Smokehouse restaurant next door serves delicious, reasonable meals. Would make a great wedding venue! Only some small niggles - room was very hot, bright lighting left on overnight, loud radio playing in breakfast room.
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional - Great welcome, helpful and beautiful room with everything I needed. Quiet night. Brilliant.
- Shannon (9/5): Superb -
- Dante (7/5): Amazing place, so worth the money, but kinda scary for us. - so the hotel was lovely, in fact I'd dare say it was gorgeous. The room was lovely, and the staff were very welcoming. The grounds themselves were beautiful and you really got a feeling of the history of the place. I liked everything a part from one giant problem that required myself and my partner to check out during the night. We were having a lovely evening, enjoying the room and relaxing when spooky s#%t started to happen. It went freezing in certain karts of the room temporarily, I was hit on the back 4 times with only myself and my partner in the room, she was laying in bed, her leg was pulled underneath the bed covers and the mirror on the wall began rotating clockwise slightly. There was also a loud eerie sound of a baby crying coming from a door that lead to closet that made my partner tear up. It was very scary amd we had to get out. We heard stories of the hotel being haunted, but we were sceptical until we stayed there. Loved the hotel itself, and it was so lovely to stay there, even with the haunt.
- Trevor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Owen (10/5): Comfortable and relaxing - Absolutely fabulous and comfortable hotel and very relaxing
- Daniel (8/5): Very good - The hotel's very welcoming staff the coziness of the room. N/A
- Mark (4/5): First and only time and disapointing - Nothing but I slept well Advertised as having a restaurant but nit made clear that it only opens Thursday to Sunday. I stayed on a Wednesday. Had to survive on an apple and some nuts. I had no car and place is a decent walk along unlit dark country roads away from nearest village. TV in room not much bigger than a postage stamp and obscured partially from view from bed by bed frame. Light not working on bathroom. No shelf for shower gel etc inshower cubicle. Shower head poor.
- Tracy (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (9/5): A great place to stay in the West Midlands. - A lovely traditional country house hotel in lovely grounds and a great location.Stylish comfortable accommodation.Very friendly and efficient staff.Great food in the adjacent dinning/cafe block. Nothing really
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Colin (7/5): Nice old building that has potential to be good little hotel. - Nice old building, warm on a winters night. Restaurant not open on a Tuesday evening. Not ideal after a long journey. We didn’t find out until after we’d booked.
Checking out after 10 came with an extra £10 charge.
Nice old building but not cozy - no cozy fire or bar to sit in comfort and have a drink. It was a very basic offering and shame as the building could offer so much more.
Staff were pleasant, but no one really seemed to care - we asked about the history of the building, but the staff we asked didn’t know.
Maybe new owners will bring some life and enthusiasm to this lovely old building.
- Gary (3/5): Poor - Checking out No restaurant
No toiletries
TV from the 70,s
- Crumpton (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (1/5): Inconvenient. I should have chosen a simpler venue for better. Value - Antique feel No food available. nearest restaurant a £10 taxi ride away. ABar served a g&t but without ice or lemon.
Fairly indifferent service.
- Rineanna (8/5): Nice but remote (sometimes that's good). - Nice looking place, plenty of character (especially with the Christmas lights). Very small room, ok for one night but would not work for a longer stay. No restaurant nearby (closed on a Monday night)
- Karen (9/5): Fantastic. Thank you. - Staying in such a beautiful building. The room was too hot, even with the radiator turned off.
- Otilia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): A comfortable, peaceful stay in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended, and I will return again. - The parking is plentiful and very close to the entrance. The hotel is a stunning period building, beautifully decorated for the Christmas period which gave a lovely ambience in reception. There was a welcoming member of staff on arrival, and a no-fuss check in. Great WiFi, and a comfy and warm room awaited. The room was well equipped, quiet, with nice towels and basic toiletries provided. The tea and coffee making facilities were appreciated. Good black-out curtains ensured a peaceful night’s sleep. Check out was no fuss and I was helped to the car with my luggage by the lady who was waiting to service the room. Thank you, I really appreciated that! Not very much to dislike here, it’s a great place to stay and I will definitely use this hotel again. If I was to pick a couple of things, I would say that the tv was very small, but this wasn’t really a priority for me. Could have done with some shampoo/conditioner but I brought my own anyway. I didn’t try the restaurant but a basic room service type menu would have been welcomed and I would have used that service.
- Howard (9/5): Superb -
- Tracy (10/5): Good - I love this property and stay here whenever I can. There didn’t appear to be hardly any staff available. I saw one person, but couldn’t find them several times during my stay, I couldn’t find anyone. This included when I checked out, it’s a shame as that customer service element needs to be there. I’d have liked to enjoy a drink in the bar and even though I could have again I went into the bar and no one around. The staff I met were incredibly lovely but there is just no presence on reception which is important in a hotel, they are the first face you see. Shame that breakfast isn’t in the hotel anymore, I personally book here to experience the hotel interior. Harley’s ok but really not the same
- Achu (8/5): The environment was nice, bed was too high in felt from the bed. - Bed
- Jackie (8/5): Lovely place shame no food or drinks - The building is beautiful There is no restaurant Mon/tue/wed and because they had a private function there wasn’t a bar to have a drink
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kay (6/5): Could do better. - Hotel location and car parking good. Room exceedingly hot turned off radiator made no difference. Able to open one window by a couple of inches. Room above one of lounge so extremely noisy. Always looks like it needs a coat of paint. Breakfast is taken in restaurant across car park which only opens at 8am and not sure why floors were being washed at this time so extremely slippy. Breakfast choices limited good to have a fruit or cereal option.
- Sarah (9/5): Great stay - Breakfast was delicious albeit having to pay extra for it. The room was comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was well appointed. The hall itself is beautiful and has lovely gardens The heating was on all night it seemed which made the room a little too warm. Having to pay extra for breakfast on top of £135 for the room felt a little too much
- Hugh (9/5): Excellent country hotel with amazing grounds. - Welcoming, friendly staff. Room was warm clean and bed was super comfortable. In great location with easy access .free parking. Breakfast in adjoining building was great value and well presented. Definitely will return again. Only downside was getting luggage up stairs, we managed but a porter or small lift would of assisted.
- Greg (8/5): we will come again - The bed was very comfortable and the room spacious Bottled water would have been appreciated and a full length mirror
- Peter (6/5): Property excellent but the restaurant wasn’t open on a Wednesday - Character The restaurant wasn’t open for dinner
- Clare (7/5): Lovely grounds. Very helpful staff. Lack of food facilities an issue. - Friendly and helpful receptionist TV didn't work. Small towels in room. Would have liked room service.
- Vera (9/5): Cozy, quiet, country hotel! - Really comfortable bed and cozy room. Beautiful furniture, quiet location although near a busy road, no noise in bedroom. Professional, helpful, friendly staff. The restaurant is not within the hotel building. It's separate across the car park. Food and service were excellent, but a walk in the cold to get back to your room. Hotel set up for afternoon teas and as a wedding venue. Bar within hotel.
- Carmichael (9/5): Superb -
- Shaz (7/5): Good - The bedroom was lovely, the bed was comfy and the bathroom had a lovely big bath and shower. Nothing.
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Howard (8/5): Very good -
- Elham (1/5): Not recommended - Our stay at this hotel was quite disappointing, and it definitely didn’t live up to a 5-star standard. Here’s what we experienced:
1. **Uncomfortable Bed and Pillows:** The bed was very noisy with every movement, making it hard to get a good night's sleep. The pillows were also far from comfortable.
2. **No Reception Welcome:** We arrived around 6 PM, yet there was no one at the reception to greet us. It felt very unwelcoming and unprofessional.
3. **Shower Amenities and Water Temperature:** The water in the shower was barely warm, more on the colder side, which was uncomfortable. Furthermore, there was only one shower gel provided, which we were told to use for both body and hair, as there was no separate shampoo.
4. **Inconvenient Breakfast Experience:** Breakfast was not included and had to be purchased separately at a nearby restaurant. The service started at 9 AM, and it took another hour to prepare an English breakfast. Our breakfast was finally served at 10 AM, right when we needed to check out. Additionally, we were charged an extra £2 just for a cup of tea.
Overall, this hotel is overrated with a 5-star rating; it felt more like a 2 or 3-star experience at best. We would not recommend it to those expecting a high level of service and comfort
- Tracey (10/5): Exceptional - Facilities and breakfast were excellent. Friendly staff and great service
- Tim (3/5): Good bed poor hospitality - Location and quiet Time of breakfast and the fact there was no evening meal offer monday tuesday or wednesday night and this was not communicated at the time of booking
- Colin (8/5): ANOTHER RELAXING AND QUIET STAY - Have stayed here several times previously. The Hall, rooms and gardens are absolutely packed with character, leading always to a very relaxing stay. Room fixtures need a little TLC.
- Michele (8/5): Very good - Lovely rooms and surrounding garden. Beautiful building Shower wasn’t very warm, although other times I’ve stayed it was. So was probably just a glitch with that room.
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- Paul (6/5): i wouldn't recommend staying there, it may be a great venue for a wedding - Dunsley Hall and gardens are full of old character, and beautiful, there isnt a restaurant or bar in the Hall but Harleys smokehouse adjacent to the hotel is large, modern immaculately clean and very nice with bars, restaurant and cafe, the staff who work there are very very friendly, very attentive, and the food is delicious and well presented, we will be returning to eat there again Even though the house and grounds are beautiful, it lacked any energy, lighting was turned down to a minimum and felt more like a railway station after the last train had gone. i can appreciate this is an old property but the bedrooms look tired and i can understand how it would be hard to squeeze anything into the rooms after the bed but they just managed, the bathroom was tiny, the extractor wasn't working, which had caused mould to start growing in several places inside the shower and along the ceiling ( photos show two of the places ) the water in the shower tray wasn't going down properly and on inspection the plug hole cover was full of human hair !! there were two chairs near the window, which need steam cleaning, you could only view the television from one, when i tried to move the other the casters fell off ! the television is tiny, my laptop has a bigger screen !
two people could only watch the television if they were in bed, ten you would need binoculars. our room was at the front of the building so had the full force of the carpark lights shing into the room ! so needed to draw the thick curtains
- Nigel (2/5): Crap 💩 I saw the staff on check in and couldn’t find them anywhere - It was ok and that was it Room was very cold with no working heating
There was no hot water
TV was so small you could barely see it 😡
