Guest Reviews
- Carlos (10/5): - Proper installations, right in front of the beach.
Fair enough for the price.
- Carol (6/5): - The view from my room was stunning. I looked towards the pool, palm trees, and the ocean. It was very relaxing place to stay
- Thomas (10/5): - We are regulars here and will keep coming back. This is not a five-star resort but is very clean and the staff are mucho friendly. The beautiful beach is 100 feet away and the hotel offers chaise lounge chairs for guests. Umbrellas are available.
The restaurant next-door, seemingly on the same property, is very agreeable with good food and good prices.
There are a ton of other good restaurants in easy walking distance, even for someone like me with a hip and knee replacement!
The water isn’t potable and warm showers are hard to come by but everything else here makes up for these things.
Ana, David, and Fernando (and the rest of the front end crew) make the check in process very easy.
- Lynda (10/5): - Spent 2 weeks it was great nice and quiet.
- Alejandro (8/5): - En general todo muy bien, solo no había agua caliente
- Janet (8/5): - i love coming to Ojo de Agua. staff are very friendly and helpful. only problem was that the safe was inoperable. i was informed they are planning getting the lock fixed.
- Giampiero (10/5): - Great Hotel on the beach
- Ronald (8/5): - Chambre face à la mer très belle vue. Plage vraiment à côté, mais beaucoup de bateaux.
Sécurité ok. Tranquille. À proximité de tout.
- Sampath Gamini Seneviratne Wansooriya (2/5): - unfortunately we are not stay there due to visa problem so i have to cancel my trip so i was really disappointed when i spoke to one of your front office person to do some favorable reimbursement for my cancelation .but the respond to my request is big "SORRY"i will never recommend this hotel to any one i know that they are some policies but you always can bend it.
- Maissaa Alhaj (2/5): - Everything was bad the swimming pool was closed, we saw a big rat on front of our room door, they mentioned that there is a breakfast and they don’t even have a restaurant, the pictures online looked nothing like reality
- Jerry (10/5): - We love this place and the people, the staff are great and weve never felt uncomfortable or out of place here
- Andres (8/5): - nice place for the price
- Elie (4/5): - Hôtel dans son jus. Pas d’eau chaude. Tout est abimé.
- Andrew (6/5): - Very dated. Needs some renovations.
- Jessica (6/5): - Employees are great! Could use paint everywhere(not talking about outsides that are exposed to salt water). There were scrapes on the doors and bed was broken in the room.
Love the hotel though.
- Juan (4/5): noisy - alot of noice
- Janet (10/5): - i will visit again soon! truly enjoyed my stay with you!
- Mianca (2/5): - There was black mold in the ac unit as well as under the bathroom sink. I woke up sick the very next day. There was only a sheet on the bed, no blanket. The water was luke warm at best. It was lazily kept.
- Sandra (10/5): - Fantastic location great staff
- Maria (10/5): - .
- Sandra (10/5): - The beach was gorgeous and the food was delicious we had a great stay
- Sandra (10/5): - The place was very nice my biggest complaint was it was a good little distance to get a coffee as there wasn’t any in lobby the beach was beautiful we went there because the seaweed was awful I’m plays in playa de Carmen we liked it so much we’re headed there again today
- Mandeep (10/5): - Everything was good but the washrooms could be better, staff was very friendly and nice
- Amelia (4/5): - It was in front of beach. Property is not maintained and the room blankets and towels showed complete wear. They looked dirty with holes and stains.
- Fabiola (10/5): - Parking is on the side street. Staff is very thorough in their information.
- Jason (6/5): - Nice room and restaurant. We made an appointment for beach chairs at the beach club for 12:30 and you gave our chairs away at 12:00 and turned us away. Your computers were down and you couldn't see the reservations. We will not be back.
- corinne (2/5): Don’t go. Worst hotel of our trip. - Moldy. Bathroom water smelled. Furniture was dilapidated.
- Steven (10/5): - Very glad they had refrigerators in the room. It could use more comfortable patio chairs.
- Omar (10/5): - My recent stay at Hotel Ojo de Agua was an absolutely delightful experience that exceeded expectations. The location is perfect-right in the heart of Puerto Morelos, offering easy walking access to the beach, local shops, the town square, and a wide variety of restaurants and bars. The area felt safe and vibrant, filled with culture, friendly locals, and plenty of options for entertainment.
One of the highlights was the live music in the evenings at a nearby local restaurant just steps away from the hotel. It added a beautiful touch to the atmosphere and created such a relaxing, vacation-like vibe. The hotel itself was comfortable, clean, and conveniently located near the Malecón the famous tilted lighthouse, which made for great evening walks and photos.
Whether you're traveling solo, with family, or as a couple, l'd highly recommend this place for anyone looking to unwind and explore the charm of Puerto Morelos. I'll definitely be coming back in the future
—this place has earned a special spot in my heart.🌴✨
- Wendy Lynn (10/5): - The whole travel experience was great, from weather to the Beach, Restaurants etc,
- Victoria (10/5): - The property was clean , and next to the ocean. Very quiet! And within walking distance of everything you need. The workers that I spoke to ended up being super helpful at the hotel and the restaurant. The only issues I had was they only had sheets on the bed no comforter, but no biggie next time I know to bring one, and the remote and TV didn't seem to work but that could of just been a battery issue 😊. I would recommend this property, with or without kids.
- Oscar (6/5): - El hotel no se parece a las fotos pero está en una playa hermosa y es muy barato.
- Angela (2/5): - First of all I didn’t stay there I immediately left out the room and went to the front desk and told them that that place is unsafe and I don’t want to stay there. I’m still waiting on my money to get put back on my card. They had roaches in the room and hardly nobody staying on the property.
- Joseph (2/5): - Never seen properly did not stay there.. mix up and charge for stay which should been cancelled because credit card didn’t go through I will call to make complaint
- Donnie (8/5): - Staff were very helpful
- Rodolfo (8/5): - Friendly Staff
- Cristin (8/5): - They ran out of water while I was there. No water in the jug and no bottles. The pool didn't have the furniture set up. Otherwise the room was nice and clean. I had a wonderful ocean view. The price was very low, so I think ya know, you get what you pay for. It was a basic hotel right by the beach, and right by lots of restaurants. The beach is very nice at that location, minimal seaweed. The food at the beach club is good, especially the breakfast.
- Salvador (4/5): - Front desk bad addicted
- Hiram Aponte (6/5): - Las facilidades y cuartos requieren mantenimiento.
- Peggy (6/5): - Property needs updated badly. Electrical outlets did not work in bathroom.
Very convenient to restaurants & down town area. Property directly on beach which we loved. Beach area beautiful.
- Martha (2/5): - We repeatedly asked for hot water every day for ten days finally got lukewarm the last night lots of excuses will not go back
- susan (8/5): - Very spacious room slept 5 comfortable beds , not so comfortable pillows
No hot water was a problem.
A bottle of water in fridge on arrival would hsve been good
- Ronald (10/5): Love Puerto Morelos - Front desk staff were amazing 👏
Hotel is right on the beach. Popular beach bar (Don Ernesto's) right on site. Two blocks from popular restaurants/bars 👍
Only bad thing was no hot water for 2 days, but the cold water woke me up 😳🙃
I will definitely stay there again ( for a 4th time)
- Verified traveler (6/5): For the price, we would probably go again - Economical choice for a property right on the beach. Not quite as fancy as it looks in the photos.
The good:
- restaurant staff and cleaning staff very kind
-Rental of the beach beds is economical as you get some of the fee back when you buy food
-The restaurant is really tasty
Challenges:
- Very loud generator just outside room so no enjoying the peaceful sounds of the ocean
- Strict policy: no beach towel for children (yet children get wet swimming). No trading wet towels for fresh ones though some days are cold and windy. These policies are strict and staff told us they would get in trouble if they traded us for fresh ones.
- One dish we ordered wasn't great, but we had to argue with about 4 levels of staff to send it back.
- No drinking water provided, you have to buy it
- Dayna (8/5): - Decent place for beachfront. Room is bare bones but all you need for a short stay. The small fridge was great but not advertised to be in the room so I had not brought any cold snacks. Beach club is decent. The con is the smell. I was on the 3rd floor and the smell in the room was overpowering. They had the doors open to the hallway of all the rooms and I left mine open with the window. Took a little to get use to. Overall, for cost, location and staff friendliness I would stay here another night or two if I needed.
- Frances (10/5): - It was very clean and nice just a bit outdated and we had no hot water in our room
- David (4/5): - Staff very helpful trying to appease visitors in a hotel that is run down and neglected. Like no hot water… we are moved to another room under a water pump which was loud all night. In both cases the staff acquiesced and admitted they knew of the situation and charmingly attended to our request after a bit of cajoling. Though not an esthetic compound, convenient to beach, beach chairs and Don’s beachside restaurant. I suppose more money would warrant better facilities. I would say that this hotel does not warrant 4 stars. A budget hotel at best, a place to crash/sleep. I suppose the expence/rate is in its proximity to the beach. This should be a last resort in the majority of circumstances.
- Janice (8/5): - Have stayed there for years. This is the first time I didn’t have hot water in the shower. I can get warm water very first thing in the morning. The maids were charming worked very hard. I only needed fresh towels occasionally in my trash taken out.. the safe was broken and they got it fixed on the third day. I’ve never read about anything ever being taken at that particular hotel so I wasn’t worried about my belongings.. they gave me the room that I had requested so I was pleased with that..
- 836jennis (8/5): Affordable and decent beachfront hotel - The room was more than fine. Mini fridge was cold, air conditioning worked great, beds were ok. Yes the showers are not hot but we were fine with lukewarm. Sure it’s not new but they kept everything super clean and the staff were great. My only big complaint was the lack of cleaning for the pool and the pool area. The pool at the second property was maintained but the smaller pool at the main hotel was not cleaned at all. It also needs new furniture and some loungers. The beach area also could have used some maintenance in terms of garbage and many of the chair cushions are in dire need of replacement. The new kabanas at the second property look amazing and will likely stay there next time. All in all it’s an incredible location with great staff and super affordable.

- Dean (10/5): - Good location, close to everything
- Michelle (10/5): - On the beach, beautiful scenery, clean and friendly
- Candy4050 (4/5): What a shame! - The photos on the website are obviously of better days. This place could have been lovely if it was just maintained with some care. Well situated on the beach, beach chairs and umbrella available at a cost and it has a small pool. Sadly, the reality is that it is rundown, dirty and poorly maintained. There are holes in the window frames, dirty walls, stained and limited pillows, towels and linens., broken furniture and on top of it all no hot water for several hours after we arrived and no water at all the next morning until noon. Beds are thin mattresses on plywood frames. Pool was not being filtered and staff were getting buckets of water from it for floor washing. It's a great price for the location but you really are getting what you paid for.
- omar (2/5): - Very bad service and very bad condition and very bad clean
- Carol (8/5): - Great location. Basic room with easy access to beach and restaurants. Oceanside which is always a plus. Beds comfortable. Very basic but clean.
- christine (10/5): - Thankyou for a wonderful holiday
- Monte (4/5): - Rooms were sub sub par...good location. Pool was nasty.beds horrible.
- Aurora (6/5): - No warm water, stained towels, bad lighting!
- Michelle (10/5): - On the beach and many restaurants nearby
- Magda (8/5): - The cleaning lady was very nice and left everything super clean.
The hotel was ok for the price, the hotel seems old.
- Emma (8/5): - Lovely Staff - Very helpful. Great location on the beach and easy walk to town and restaurants. Room was a good size, but not as comfortable as I had hoped. The pull-out bed was very uncomfortable and unusable. A few things in the room need fixing. Try to get a ground floor room - great access to the pool and beach.
- Jeremy (8/5): - Good value overall. Bar/restaurant closed before 8 on Thursday night?!?
- Sidnie (6/5): - I was very disappointed in the front staff. Upon check in we were told we had to pay a tax and only in pesos. The girl at the front told us she didn't have change but would get it to us. We asked later that night and the next morning. Again , no change. The next night we were told by someone else they had no knowledge of that . They then called her and he flat out lied and said she had already given it to us. The manager begrudgingly gave us change. Found several bugs in our beds and no water on the last day. Not sure i'd stay here again.
- lucie (6/5): - They could clean the pool more often
Rake beach we’re lounge chairs are to pick up bottle caps and garbage
- Michael (4/5): - After 3 days of no air-conditioning, we got a new room. 6 requests to management, who stated someone was coming to fix room and 2 calls to Expedia, we got a new room. David gave us an extended time to leave at 3 p.m. on 2/18/2025. However, we had to be out at 1 p.m. Then they would not speak or acknowledge us in lobby as we waited an hour for cab. I got to meet the owner's son. Sergio. I asked him to tell his father that he, the son, needs to let his son run the entire place. The restaurant was well run and had delicious food, having Sergio's eyes on it. Sergio would hold the managers responsible for room checks, and making the hotel safe and inviting for desks. Most of the time there wasn't drinking water in the container in the lobby. Mgrs would not bring out more. A maid brought me some. I tipped her well. I told manager David and Arturo that people take meds-like us-and need water. No response. No guest was ever told when they would fill it up again. Arturo stated once to me on 2nd day that we could buy cups for Ojo's water, or buy our own water at 6, down the street a bit--walking on rocks, through potholes, heat, and aggravation.
- richard (8/5): - Location was excellent, Staff was great. A little worn and no water provided. It would have been nice to have a pitcher and then be able to refill water from a common source . Balcony was great. Pool nice. Room small but fine.
- Rhonda (8/5): - Location cant be beat!
- BETTY (4/5): - Great location. Nice staff. Older property. Very basic accommodation. No water or coffee maker. No deadbolt on door
- Joanne (8/5): - I woukd stay here again however the road to enter this property is a dirt road with huge potholes and limited places to walk. The grounds were ok but a simple step of putting away maintenence equipment would make the grounds look much better. We have a major incidents with the toilet but thankfully by noon the next day they fixed it. In the meantime we used the lobby toilet. They offeted us another room but was a big downgrade so we opted to stay in our room and use the close by lobby toilet. Staff were great. Cant beat the beach location.
- Richard (6/5): - A little tired with need of some TLC in the room. Staff were all present though. Location is good. As with most places we have seen roads around it are bad and care taken if you drive, with big ruts and builders rubble not tidied away.
We did enjoy our stay however.
- Mark (10/5): - The location is absolutely perfect for me. It’s right on the beach. It’s got a couple beach bars right outside my door. All in all I love staying here.
- Janet (10/5): - i will be back again soon! thank you!
- Margaret (4/5): - No bottled water or glass in bathroom for drinking. No faceclth. Safe at least worked. Bed so low I thought I wa sleeping on the floor & not too comfy.
- Lee (6/5): - location was great access to the beach and main square
staff was very attentive and helpful
*no water or coffee options available
*shower head and fridge need repair
* safe did not work
*mattresses and pillows uncomfortable
- Sherry (6/5): Had pros and cons! - I've stayed in Puerto Morelos several times but this was my first time at this property. Pros were friendly service and beach location. Cons were nowhere to refill a water bottle or get coffee in the morning. (This is just comparing it to where I stayed before). They also said on hotels.com that there were hairdryers in the room but there were not and I could not get one even when I asked. Rooms were comfortable enough and we did have hot water (which was an issue at the other hotel I stayed at).
- Mark (8/5): Convenient Hotel in Puerto Morelos - The Hotel offers a clean large room, minimalist design With closet, desk and minifridge and 2 beds. . The location is very centrally located, on the beach. Many restaurants are located within a 10 minute walk. The price is quite resonable for the location. My only quibble would be the rather tepid hot water in the shower. But this is hardly unique. All in all if you are looking for few frills with beach access and a 10 minute walk to the town center, this is a good choice.
- John (6/5): - The location is great staff friendly. Clean for the most part. The hotel is just a little outdated.
- Rosa (10/5): - Would stay again at this property.
- Peter (6/5): - Location is great . Room is dated but all you really need if you are that type of person. Lobby staff was all great. Fernando is great. But the dude who works at the beach ruined a good few days of the trip on his own lol.
- Dusmila (10/5): - Family friendly
- Bruce (10/5): - Next to beach
- Paula (8/5): - Would definately stay there again, location was perfect, staff was friendly and helpful. Accomodations were not cushy but had everything we needed.
- Getaway29459638276 (2/5): Don’t go - Very decadent mouldy and smelly premises, rooms falling apart since it’s obvious that no maintenance was ever done whatsoever, incompetent service, filthy towels, sunbeds on the beach are subrented to non-guests . Picture on the website are heavily out of date.
- ljl822 (2/5): Terrible - After decades of vacationing in Mexico, I can definitely say that this was the worst value for money I’ve ever experienced. The first room we had was dank, no views, no security, in that you could lean against the sliding door to the balcony and it would have collapsed, noisy air conditioner, right outside on a rooftop, and no hot water. After three nights, we moved rooms in search of hot water. We had no hot water for our entire holiday. Paid way too much for this room and staff just shrugged their shoulders as in it’s Mexico. No drinking water available and no cups in the room. Correction, you could buy drinking water in the restaurant for a price higher than one would pay in Canada.
- Pooja (10/5): - Had a wonderful stay
- Maxime (4/5): - Place is outdated and needs major renovation. Bathroom was stinky when we arrived and all windows didn’t close properly. No bath mat and water in room. Definitely not worth $75 a night.
- Arielle (2/5): - We didn’t even stay. We walked in and walked back out. Location right on beach is nice, but pictures of the hotel do not look the same.
- Andy (4/5): Terrible. Not worth $20 - This place was terrible. Way too much money for a room that was a total dump. I would have been better off sleeping on the beach under a palapa. Every part of the hotel was run down. No doors had trim. Paint worn off. It kinda felt disgusting. (And I travel cheap hotels a lot)
- Pamela (8/5): - A hidden gem of a place if you enjoy quiet, sun, nice beach/water and close walking distance to local restaurants and shopping areas. The hotel didn’t look like what was advertise but rooms were clean and it was only matter of minutes to the beach where you were able to relax and enjoy a quiet environment. Don’s Taco and Burrito was wonderful restaurant/bar that catered to the guests and others that May had stopped along the beach. The wait staff was amazing. They ensure you had food/drink when you needed it. Reminder this area preferred Pesos instead of the dollars. No worries it remained a wonderful place for a 5 or ? day getaway! Enjoy!
- Jonathon (4/5): - The ocean was the highlight of this place. This hotel made us feel as if we were in a motel. Tv did not work. AC did not work. Staff was not necessarily the most enthusiastic. I would not recommend this hotel the pictures are false that they post.
- Maurice (8/5): - Awesome budget friendly hotel right on The beach. Very walkable location.
- Robin (6/5): - Staff is friendly and helpful! Room is very clean. Close to the beach and walking distance to restaurants and music along the street.
- Shahnawaz (6/5): Ojo de Aqua - The place doesn't look like the pics.
Pro : next to the beach and good wifi
Cons : the place is out dated , hot water dod not work . Few beach benches.
- Benny Jamie (2/5): - This was the worst booking experience I’ve ever had the actual place looks nothing like the photos. We walked in five minutes. We wanted to leave matter fact we did leave. We took a loss and booked at another hotel because this place was unbearable unsafe, unsanitary cringe, ugly all of the above take my advice. Don’t even think about this place twice. Don’t stay here.
- Andrew (2/5): - There wasn't much to be liked about this property. The staff was not helpful. No clean water available for drinking, had to go to a nearby tienda to buy it. The road in front of the hotel lobby is a pot hole ridden mud patch. The hotel gives a general feeling of run down, dilapidated and largely uncared for. Not a single person got into the swimming pool during the two days I was there. Pictures make this place look much nicer than it really is. For the amount of money they charge, you don't get what you pay for. You get far less than what you pay for.
- Mark (10/5): - The staff was absolutely amazing and made my trip excellent. The location itself was perfect for me for a first time person in Puerto Morelos that wanted a relaxing week, a week on the beach and a very good pub close by, which was right outside my door basically 😊 I will be back for another visit thank you very much
- Eric (10/5): - Great people
- Maria (2/5): - The property is under construction and the rooms ate terible
- Eric (10/5): - My top reason is the wonderful location, followed closely by an amazing staff. You made my stay a most enjoyable one.
