Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): - We came in the off season, so most things were closed. But our room was comfortable and clean and very quiet. We only were served a grab-and-go breakfast, but it was ok for our needs. I don't think the restaurant was open because it was the off season. The few staff we did meet were friendly. The property looks very nice - a beautiful golf course, hiking trails, and plenty of boats for activities on the lake. I'm sure it is a very nice place to stay in the summer.
- Darla (10/5): - Clean rooms . Older place . But comfortable and scenic.
- Korey (8/5): - This is a nice area. The lodge is under renovation, kind of. They are installing new flooring. Not sure what else is going to happen. There are rooms that they allow for pet owners. This was a problem in the early morning as the dogs barked for a very long time. No sleeping in. Overall, the staff was nice, the rooms are dated but the area is beautiful.
- Colt (4/5): Not so happy - Went to check in and was told dogs were an issue and we couldn’t stay in the rooms we booked. We were then moved to the older rooms which smelled significantly of mildew. The rooms did not look the same as what I had paid for online, the tv was not good, the beds and pillows were absolutely terrible. We spent the entire 3 nights there completely unable to sleep and tossed and turned all night. Nowhere when booking the room was I given an option to check that I was bringing dogs or given any notice that that would cause me to not get the room I reserved. I was led to believe that upon arrival I would have to notify the front desk that I had a dog with me and pay the $25 fee, didn’t realize this meant paying full price for a nicer room on top of the fee and getting moved to a very sub-par and uncomfortable room. Other than the room issues I will say the resort was beautiful and that the restaurant/ bar was very good and a nice place to eat and drink. Highly recommend stopping at least at the restaurant.
- James (6/5): - Was disappointed that the pool was out of service and we didn’t get to use it. Vending machines by our room didn’t work. Scenery was ver beautiful thouhh
- Diane (6/5): - The overall property was beautiful but the room were extremely outdated! The rooms felts damp to a point that we had to turn the AC off and open the window and door to dry it out. Carpet felt wet, chairs were very old and dirty. I couldn’t sleep the 2 night we were there it was so bad
- Tammy (6/5): - Room had terrible musty smell other than that fine older but ok
- Verified traveler (8/5): Something for all ages - Nice area, rustic facilities. Continental breakfast was as advertised, not great but perfectly adequate. The resort has nice facilities (golf course, indoor pool, fitness center, lake side swimming area and kayak rentals). Something for all ages.
- Anushka (10/5): - Nice relaxing place, for a perfect get a way
- Cassondra (4/5): Not worth it - Bed was very uncomfortable, shower had hair in it, tv sound wasn't working properly, just not worth the price at all
- Thomas (8/5): - Nice clean and quiet
- Nicole (4/5): - Room was cheap & did the job. We wanted to visit a brewery nearby and this was the closest place. We found used dirty underwear in our room. Check in is at 4 and the front desk also closed at 4, they put a lock on the door. Advertised a bar & lounge both of which were closed during our stay. Wasn’t looking for anything super fancy, but for it to be a resort it’s disappointing the condition the rooms were in. Everything was dated, carpet was kind of gross, and wondered if I should even sleep in the beds there.
- Brianne (6/5): - The room could have been cleaner. Floor was dirty, bedding was stained and chair had a burn in it.
The outdoors were beautiful and we enjoyed sledding and the pool area.
- Sandy (10/5): - The restaurant has the best reuben on planet earth. The facilities are not five star, but they are clean and and maintained. they were all decorated for Halloween, which was adorable.
- William (8/5): Alpine Review - Had a great experience during this stay. The property is great with miles of hiking trails and the staff is very friendly. My only suggestion is that the bedroom portion of the the rooms can use an update.
- Peter (10/5): - Room was nice and clean and comfortable. But no signs of anybody cleaning the room. Had to ask for toilet paper, etc…
- Richard (10/5): - My stay was excellent. Relaxing and quite
- Miguel (10/5): - A
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The ladies at the front desk were great! At check in we were given a lot of very useful information. They told us were everything was, when the lounge and restaurant closed. How to get to the pool and other areas when the front doors were locked.
The staff we had during our dinner were fantastic!! They were supposed to close at 9. We got seated shortly around 8:15-8:20. They were quick at getting our drinks for us. They were crazy busy in the kitchen and it took a while for us to get our food. But being both my husband and I have and are still in customer service we understood the circumstances they were in. We didn’t get out of there until close to 10, but the experience was great!! The ladies were exceptional.
- Patricia (4/5): - The front desk evening staff was rude. The check in and out person was ok, but not offering any info re the facilities. The restaurant servers and food were up to par and better!!! Facilities were very worn out, the stained carpet in the room was not nice. Bed was below ave but not horrible. Golf pro shop person was sweet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): The view is priceless - Sign in was easy. Adjusted our reservation from second floor to first floor easily. (No elevator)
Bathroom needs upgrades- safety bar for shower.
Price is right
Love the view ❤️
- Michelle (8/5): Our stay - It. Would have been nice to have a hit breakfast the closest place was 20 min away
- Meghan (10/5): - Love this resort it is a beautiful setting and a great value for what we paid for I definitely recommend this location! My kids loved it ❤️
- jennifer (6/5): - The property was clean, but its very old, the mattresses were uncomfortable, rooms smell musty from old carpeting. The dining room was nice, the food expensive, we had bad shrimp and steak served to us, they did not realize the cooler had stopped working. Breakfast bar absolutely sucked, and there is nothing nearby to eat at, everything is 25 minutes away. Staff was very nice, the grounds are well kept, restaurant shuts down when they have private event, leaving you no choice for dining at the resort except the bar
- Kathryn (10/5): - A wonderful place to stay
- ENRIQUE (10/5): - Very good
- Shawn (6/5): Affordable, lovely lake, poor details. - Affordable. Clean. Nice indoor pool. Nice beach. Lovely lake.
(Did not use the nice gilf course.)
Great ice machine.
Did not have an extra bed, at Check-in, which I had reserved. Finally found one, but had no needed extra pilllows.
Maid Service never showed, cleaned, or straightened our room.
No soap for the sink.
No shampoo in dispencer in the shower.
A wedding closed the restaurant all weekend.
It was a lovely location.
- Bonnie (10/5): - This was a quick one night visit and just what we needed. Convenient to our event and comfortable nights sleep
- William (8/5): - The pool was nice.
- Michael (8/5): Beautiful Getaway for Couples - There needs to be a proper breakfast available, as there is nowhere to eat nearby other than coffee and pastry.
- Heather (8/5): - Hotel was very dated. Carpet was clean but super stained and faded. Bathroom shampoo and shower dispensers did not work at all. No commodities around sink. This was not worth the amount spent
- Valerie B (6/5): Pretty grounds disappointed room - The rooms are old, the bedspread on our bed was stained. The room was reasonably clean but I still sprayed it down with Microban.
Having no place for breakfast was totally disappointing. We had to drive into town to the store to buy frozen things for breakfast and the frig froze our juice.
The shower had good water pressure and the towels were great. But our garbage was never picked up our entire 3 days.
We were trying to rest and the lawn guys were cutting the grass right up against our window.
The booking said lake view but you don’t stay in the lodge you stay in an old motel like structure away from the lodge.
Then one night the fire alarm went off outside our door and we had to get up and throw on clothes because someone was smoking on their balcony or in their room. My husband went out and found the manager trying to find the key to turn it off.
After what felt like forever he did turn it off, but then you can’t get to sleep.
The grounds are very pretty, and the pool is ok. We were hoping for more since our son and grandson live close. But not really sure I will stay there again.
- Mike (10/5): - Very open and welcoming, not much in walking distance tho.
- Alla (10/5): - We'll be back!
Thank you)
- susan (8/5): - Beautiful location. A real throwback to the 50's motel. Comfortable and warm but worn and dated. And no toiletries other than soap dispensers. Personnel very friendly and helpful.
- Timothy (6/5): - Very isolated. Nearest town, Oakland MD, about 20 minutes away for shopping.
- Sandy (10/5): - Reminds me of the good ole days when service was a thing. Views are spectacular. If you live in a big city, you just gotta come here.
Trying to stay in Morgantown, but glad the football game made it too expensive, otherwise I would not have found this gem!
- John (10/5): - Alpine Lake is a beautiful place to visit and stay. It was fall and rainy during our visit but we plan to return and enjoy the many recreational opportunities Alpine Lake affords. The staff was helpful and available and we had a wonderful visit. Alpine Lake is a hidden gem.
- Kristina (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings, but the carpet and rooms are out of date.
- Daniel (10/5): - Love everything about Alpine
- Stephen (10/5): - Mountains and lake
- Kimberly (8/5): - The resort was in a beautiful location, very quiet and serene. The rooms at the lodge were very clean, but outdated and worn. The restaurant served lunch and dinner, a small menu - but the food was good. They need to add breakfast from the restaurant instead of "grab and go" which is very limited.
- vern (8/5): - Very nice facility. Pool is refreshing. Wet weather did not allow us to experience the hiking trails, next trip. The golf course is nice and people were very friendly.
- Brian (8/5): Mountain stay - Nice hotel in the mountains.Beautiful lake and golf course.Room was comfortable ans clean. They are doing work on the decks outside the rooms.
- Beth (8/5): - Very nice!
- Sandra (6/5): - Light in bathroom didn't work, mold on bathroom ceiling, noisy, exhaust fan in bathroom really loud, light over tub flickered
- Jessica (8/5): - Nice place! If you golf you will love it. There’s a nice little beach and swim area. The food was delicious at the restaurant/lounge
- Michael (10/5): - some furniture smelled old in our room on first floor, bathtub could be updated
- linda (10/5): weekend away - great time
- Mark (8/5): - You have a beautiful location and property. Somewhat outdated in the hotel. There is so much potential: you could have Saturday evening dances, special events, for hotel guests & local residents. The restaurant on Saturday was extremely backed up: only had 3 servers for some 50 diners, no bar tender. We waited 1.5 hours for our dinner and didn't leave until 9pm. Everyone was pleasant and accommodating... we felt sorry for the servers. Thank you but we will come again.
M&M
- Jack (6/5): - The grounds were beautiful, but the motel needs a face lift. It is very run down. Felt sorry for the servers in the restaurant, very busy and no help. Needless to say the service was poor
- Roy (6/5): - Where to start??? We arrived at 1030pm to a dark guard shack to find a young man in dirty uniform who seems to have no answers to basic questions. Took over 30 min to find our room since the hotel is marked motel on the building. Once in room the carpets are so stained it looks like the gutted a deer and just vacuumed up the blood. You would think there would be a folder with basic information like wifi passwords, breakfast info, important phone numbers, maybe even where closest hospital is in case of a emergency. Plus side there was a Bible in the drewer , but no paper or pen if you wanted to take notes. The unique wake up calls at 330am from Rocky the Raccoon scratching at outside door was not needed. Then the 430am motorcycle gunning there motor for 30 min was alittle much, you would say call security but he was outside talking loudly to the guy laughing. The shower is for short people. I am 6’3” 240lb. Shower head is set at like 5’10”. May I suggest bringing a shower chair so you are not bent over washing your upper half of your body. You would think a “Resort “ would Atlest have target drapes, not they have the Walmart clearance that blocks no light at all. The John Wayne toilet paper did not take crap off anyone and was rough as heck. Maybe management needs to call hotel impossible to save this place from the 1970s light fixture, drop ceiling, and popcorn ceilings everywhere. Would have got a better night sleep in a tent on rocks and bears attacking all around me.
- Richard (8/5): - We enjoyed the surrounding area and the library/multipurpose room.
- Aaron (4/5): - We stayed in the pet area room and the bedspreads had stains on them from where you can see that other dogs have peed on the bed and has not came up. There was peeling paint everywhere the deck was peeling so terrible. The carpet was disgusting. The shower was not that great. It was mostly lukewarm water and you couldn’t even get the knob to turn on the hot water it wasn’t working.
- Susan (4/5): Needs updated and staff with service experience. - The Lake is beautiful. False advertising, you do not have boats for rent and only 4 kayaks available for rent after 10am. The lodge is outdated as well as the hotel rooms. The beds are very uncomfortable and everything in the rooms was damp.We had a family reunion there and some rooms were worse than others and musty. The restaurant experience was a joke, we were the only couple in there and the waitress never brought us napkins or utensils. She was nowhere to be found so we had to walk around to other rooms to find her to pay our bill. We used a small banquet room Sat eve and numerous older women from the proshop gave us dirty looks and asked why we were there and one told us very rudely that she didn't want us there and that we BETTER have it cleaned up when we left. You advertise a breakfast bar, there was a small refrigerator with a couple Danishes and burritos, not what anyone would expect of a breakfast bar. You have a beautiful pool area however it was so hot (about 110) in there that no one could stand to sit and watch the kids swim. You can enter the pool bathroom but need a key card to exit the bathroom, I am sure people get locked in there!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great!
- Jaymi (2/5): - The check in process was very conflicted. You have to know exactly where you're going or the security guard will not allow you through. We were sent to the clubhouse. Then, radioed back down to the security guard stand just to be able to check in to get our room keys. There was not a super good description of where the rooms were located. There are no numbers on the outside of the "hotel part" to let you know where to go. I had to ask other patrons of the property. The room was a bit dated. The guest services have very limited hours. Online it says that it's open until 9pm. However, at the resort they have a sign that states that it varies depending on the day - which in my opinion is a very poor business model. When booking with Orbitz, I was told that half would charged to my card and the other half would need to be paid to the staff. The whole amount was charged to my card (which staff was able to correct). Then, our last day we were rudely awoken by people working on the outside of the building right outside our room at 7am without any notice that the property would be worked on during our stay. I hope that others have better experiences than we did.
- Jeremy (6/5): - Nice area to stay at, however, the room we stayed in was not very clean. In addition, the hotel is very outdated and needs upgrading badly. For a resort, the restaurant should have breakfast available, otherwise it is a very sparse option. Tennis/pickle ball courts were very disappointing as the surface is broken apart and is basically unplayable and not to mention there were not nets on the pickle ball court.
- Sean (8/5): - Room was adequate - a little outdated, but solid for the price. The area is beautiful, and (even though the drive is pretty wild with noncell service for a good chunk), the travel to the grounds was very scenic.
- Brian (8/5): Nice Stay - Resort was great and the staff was friendly. If the weather was better there are a lot of options for activities on the location from kayaking to hiking. Nice bar area and restaurant. Will a little modernization to the rooms this would be a great getaway. This is a hidden jewel.
- SUSHIL (4/5): - We stayed there for two nights. Other than the pool my kids didn’t like anything else. Advisement listed arcade but they didn’t have it. Miniature golf was so dated and needed as serious upkeep. Gazebo next to it had empty whisky bottle that no one bother to pick up for two days. There is nothing close by. The nearest gas station/convenience store is 3 miles away. On site restaurant is overcrowded and the service is lousy and slow.
- Jason (4/5): - Everything was going well until we were awakened at 7:30 am to construction noise, as they were replacing deck railings a few rooms over. Totally unacceptable, and speaks very poorly of management, we won't be returning.
- Mark (4/5): - The room is old, needs repairs and smelled.
- Mark (6/5): - The room is old and smells. Staff is friendly. Views are delightful.
- Mary Jo (10/5): Great weekend getaway. - Beautiful location. Hotel and lodge were a bit outdated, but very clean. Very friendly and accommodating employees. Wedding in the dining room so we ate in the lounge. Great food and excellent service. I wish there was a walking path around the lake. We will be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing weekend getaway! - Amazing weekend getaway! Quick check-in and check-out process. Huge thanks to Amanda and Jennifer for their quick and amazing service
- cynthia (8/5): - The resort is clean in most places but dated. It was fine for a fast girls weekend - we had no true expectations and nothing really planned. We tried swimming the first night upon arrival and inquired about the pool hours when checking in. The front desk provide us with the hours but failed to inform us that an additional passkey was required. We quickly changed and went to pool and tried with no avail to enter before heading back to front desk for the additional key fob….the acquired fob failed to gain us entry again to which we just relented and retired for the evening. The next morning was grabbing a coffee and tea from the check in area before heading out for the day for hiking to waterfall and general outside activities…the water for the tea was discolored prior to addition of the teabag. Dinner that night was in the lounge, the volume on every TV was too loud, the food was greasy and the staff was overwhelmed.
- Winnie (4/5): - The property is pretty run down. There were visible stains on the carpets and sheets. It took 40 minutes to check in because the attendant was not at the front desk . The weights in the gym were rusted and buckets were catching water from the roof. Golf and most amenities were closed. The place is a run down motel with a view and a bar.
- Harry (8/5): - Dining hours are limited this time of year.
- Sonjia (10/5): - We had a wonderful time. Our room was very comfortable with all the necessities provided. The room was clean, the staff friendly and accomodating. It was quiet and peaceful and the property was beautiful. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to others.
- Michael (8/5): - Was a mix between Super 8 and Summer Camp. Only one choice for dining...extremely limited for breakfast...and I can't stress extremely enough. Inside hallway for the room...but it sounded like a wind tunnel from inside of the room. Beds were very lumpy, squeaky, and old and worn out. Floors in the hallway and room were flimsy, noisy, and felt like you could fall right through. Very outdated. The girl working the desk at check in on first night was amazing ( dark hair )...girl on desk second night ( light hair ) definitely didn't want to be there. Service in the bar/restaurant was great as well as the fish n chips...best part of the stay.
- Tammy (8/5): - Like any hotel these days it's outdated and pics are deceiving. The doors and key card hands are all rusty and finicky. This got annoying quick as you need it for pool and bathroom areas. My daughter's and I were stuck in woman's bath/locker area trying to get the rusty broken handle to work.
- Brian (8/5): Alpine - On a hunting trip.Ate at restaurant and then shower and the bed.
- James (10/5): - I liked almost everything except for the smell in the bathroom
- Donna (6/5): - The place is old, with stained carpet and a microwave thar doesnt work. The people across the hall had a barking dog that came into the hallway and jumped on me as we were leaving. Quiet but wont go back. But it did have good food at the bar area.
- John (8/5): Decent place - The place was decent but needs some work.
- cheryl (4/5): Find elsewhere - People drinking and partying in the parking lot right under our window
It was loud and annoying
Engines revving all night
- Raymond (6/5): - Beautiful property, but needs updating, especially flooring.
- Gregory (10/5): - Very clean and the staff was top notch, especially the women tending to the rooms daily.
- Christin (8/5): Expectations are everything! - Alpine Lake Resort is a quaint little getaway in the mountains of West Virginia. The lake is gorgeous, and the scenery is second to none. But the resort itself was sort of left back in the 90's!
The indoor pool was under construction so we were disappointed to find it was unavailable. The motel has about 30-40 rooms and they're nice enough, and clean. The outside of the motel looks really worn and could use some TLC. Same is true of the Lodge where you'll find reception.
We were invited to a complimentary breakfast which was actually a Keurig machine and 5 pre-packaged muffins.
From the photos, I expected to be able to stroll out of our room down to the lake to sit on the grass and relax, but the golf course claims all of the waterfront accessible from the lodge and motel! So we had to get in the car and drive around the lake to the beach area.
Tennis courts were lost somewhere back in time too, and since there were only 2 canoes and a few kayaks to rent, we never managed to get out on the water.
Instead, we enjoyed long walks around the lake, settled into a slower paced life, and enjoyed our surroundings immensely.
It would have been nicer to have more realistic expectations, but even if nothing changed, I'd return in a heartbeat! Management had a letter in each room advising of all of the facility improvements underway.
You can't beat the price, and with a fridge and micro, making our own breakfast in the room was a piece of cake.
- Verified traveler (4/5): SAD - very much in need of an update. beds were awful.
- Baha Dean (8/5): - If they upgrade the room, will be very good place to stay
- Nick (6/5): - Photos from the internet are very misleading. This is nothing like the photos appear. I thought I was staying at a Lake Resort and not a motel from the 70s.
- John P (8/5): - Open, large, attractive property
- Tabitha (10/5): - Great property. Would stay again
- STEPHEN (10/5): Alpine Lake Resort - Had a good stay room where clean mattress was a little hard but other than that comfortable the restaurant is nice just wish it was open for breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good place - Beautiful area, clean room and good food at the restaurant
- Stephanie Noel (2/5): - I didn't even stay my entire trip I left after the first night. If it hadn't been so dark driving into the lodge we would left immediately
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Our room was clean. Property need update very old for the money. Golf course nice will maintain. We checked in monday 1 older lady wasnt that nice tge younger one was ok. No greetings or nothing. Pool was cloudy. Restaurant was closed the whole stays. We have to drive miles to get to a small town. I will recomend this resort if you are a golfer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful area
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic motel in heavenly location - The location is amazing. So quiet, so tucked away. The scenery is beautiful. The main building could do with painting and rennovating, the bar and restaurant is closed most of the time. Only open limited hours at the weekend. We went Mon to Weds. Everything except the Golf Pro Shop was closed. Most of the restaurants and shops in surrounding areas were also closed. Rooms have fridges and microwaves, so knowing this ahead of time you can plan ahead.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is a very nice place for a weekend getaway. The staff are very friendly and caring. Good food options in the lounge and in the restaurant. Very nice surroundings for walking and boating.
- Joel (10/5): Very Comfortable - I found Alpine lake to be a very comfortable place to stay. It was very quiet, and the surrounding area was very pleasant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place to get away. Wonderful amenties.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Peaceful place, a Gem in the hills!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice property with beautiful location. Convenient for us as we were visiting nearby family. Room is efficient, no frills, and clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The beach on the lake is always nice for the kids to enjoy. unfortunately the pool was not cleaned and several people complaint about it as well.(holiday weekend??) and the fact that no upper management to deal with any issues that needed higher escalation was not available. The Front desk (Yolanda) was really nice..
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I don't like it
- James (10/5): Beautiful with great food. - Beautiful location. Excellent food. Room is very basic. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Older but nice, could use updated
