Guest Reviews
- H0nest (9/5): Basic quality, but low price. Better for younger people. Orignal japan style house. - Great host, cute dog. Very helpful. Steep stairs to 1st floor.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous staff (especially the little dog!), extremely convenient location and a lovely traditional feel. I even had a view of Fuji from my room! I would absolutely return, and recommend this guesthouse to everyone :)
- Shreyas (10/5): Exceptional - Very spacious and cool! We like it a lot and very close to the train station and convenient
- Kateorawan (10/5): Exceptional - The friendly and clean atmosphere! Very homely and fantastic location, which is right next to the train and bus station, so it is easy to use the public transport or walk. The owner is very welcoming, and he has the cutest toy poodle, who is very smart! There is a shared fridge, eating area, toilet, shower, and laundry.
Fantastic stay. Thank you Nothing - sad to leave.
- Casey (10/5): Delighted and felt so grateful for such a warm and comfort stay. - Overall me and my family are delighted. Four of us stay in a very comfortable house. The host is so helpful and friendly. The facilities inside was excellent. The bed was excellent. The toilet and bathroom is separated make it very convenient for family. The cleanliness of the house is superb. If we come back to Fuji, this is definitely our first choice. Nothing
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional - The location is very convenient and the host is very kind and helpful
- Komchawee (9/5): Superb - Great location. Love Japanese style room. Daisuke San was so friendly and kind to drive us to see sun rise at Tanuki lake. None
- Javier (10/5): Home in Fujinomiya - Very nice accommodation; spacious room, clean and just next to bus station. The host and his sweet little dog are so lovely. It was a pleasure getting to know them and staying at their place. Definitely recommend this place.
- Yi (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (10/5): Good views, cute dog, fantastic owner - Super comfortable, cozy, clean, cute property, in a great location right next to a station with trains and buses. The owner is fantastic and most days can take guests on a trip, depending on the season (lake view of Fuji, shiraito falls, etc). And his dog is super cute! Private room was very comfortable and spacious, and had a glimpse of Fuji from the window (if it isn’t cloudy). Overall, great place to stay and in a great town with views of Fuji all over. Nothing
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Sandy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yi (10/5): Perfect place for solo travelers - Clean and the owner daisuke is very easy going, love the atmosphere of the guesthouse. Definitely will choose again if I come back to fujinomiya
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- S (9/5): Welcoming and charming property in the center of Fujinomiya! - Guest House Tokiwa is a charming property for those who are looking to stay in Fujinomiya on a budget, or are looking to experience something more "hostel-like." Daisuke and Daruma were awesome and welcoming. English friendly. Staff/Owner lives in building, so if you ever need help with something, they're available. The location is walking distance to a lot of restaurants and famous sightseeing locations, as well as the train station. If you're driving, the property offers a private parking space. I can see myself staying here again in the future. I knew this when I booked, but my only small complaints are: late check-in times and the rooms aren't 100% soundproof. With that said, if you're a traveler on a budget or are just looking for something more homey and welcoming, then I'd recommend staying at Guest House Tokiwa.
- Celine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rusne (10/5): Exceptional - Daisuke and Daruma were very sweet hosts, who helped us with everything we needed. Our room vas spacious, comfortable, clean and had a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji, which was great enough but on top of that Daisuke offered to drive all the guests to lake Tanuki see Mt. Fuji exactly at sunrise. Magical!
- Alexis (7/5): Good -
- Thomas (8/5): Authentic, safe and friendly. Also Daruma 😍🫶🏻 - Daisuke 🧍🏻♂️and Daruma 🐶. Daisuke was very helpful giving us information and recommendations and daruma made us feel very welcome too. We can’t think of any
- Bilecki (10/5): Exceptional - Super stay! Was great to get to know Diasuke and Daruma. Felt very accommodated
- Lu-ting (9/5): We would like to stay again if we visit Fujinomiya in the future. - The owner is very kind and helpful.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
It is very close to the railway station and mall.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - The house was absolutely lovely, very central and near the station. My sisters and I were amazed and felt very welcome.
- Angel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Etienne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lu-ting (9/5): Superb - The owner is very kind and helpful.
- Angelo (8/5): Great price, great accommodation, great location! - I wanted to arrive in Fujinomiya a day before I climb Fuji but I didn't want to shell out a lot for a one-night stay. I'm REALLY glad I was able to get a room at Guesthouse Tokiwa.
PRICE: It is one of the most affordable accommodations in the area. It was well worth it since I was only going to stay in Fujinomiya for less than 24 hours.
LOCATION: The bus terminal and the train station are a few minutes away on foot. Explore the area on foot and you'd find convenience stores, a gigantic AEON Mall (on the other side of the train station), a big drugstore/supermarket. Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center and Sengen Taisha are also within walking distance. There are a number of food places around the area but they seemed to close early.
ROOM: The room was good enough for one person. There's plenty of space for luggage in case you need to organize your stuff. There's also an alcove/recess by the window, which you can probably use to put your luggage/backpack on. It has all the basic things needed for a room.
STAFF: Daisuke is a really warm and friendly guy. He's very welcoming and helpful with giving information. He also speaks English.
OTHER STUFF: The shared bathroom and kitchen are typical of what you will find in a Japanese home. At the time of my stay, there were only a few guests so I don't know how busy the kitchen and the bathroom gets.
NOTES:
- He has a cute dog named "Daruma", who's friendly. If you're a bit scared of dogs, please take note that a cute little do will probably welcome you when you arrive at the guesthouse.
- Check in is at 6PM but you can leave your stuff at the guesthouse before check in. Just inform Daisuke.
- The room I stayed in was right by the entrance. It has sliding doors. Dark curtains may be drawn for privacy. Guests at the time of my stay were considerate so I didn't really hear a lot of noise from them. Just take note that you may hear people talking outside of the room.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Jean-baptiste (9/5): Superb - The room was very comfy. The host Daisuke was exceedingly nice. When I told him about my wet shoes he immediately gave my a device to dry my shoes. We forgot our toothbrush too, Daisuke was kind enough to send it back to my home place in Osaka.
- Ellen (10/5): Great place to stay before your Fujinomiya Trail hike! - Daisuke and his cute dog were great hosts! It is a welcoming home. The room was comfortable and clean. Daisuke provided a hiking map, bus information, and really made me feel prepared for my Mt. Fuji hike the next day
The location is great as it’s 5 min from a 7/11 and 2 minutes from the bus station to get to Fujinomiya 5th Station for the start of the hike
I had forgotten my charging block and Daisuke had one for me to borrow, that was very kind!!
There’s a common area with hot water, tea, coffee, etc
I luckily caught the host as he was heading out so I could drop off my bag. He gave some great recommendations for places to eat and visit while I waited for the 6pm check in Nothing
- Tian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aditi (10/5): Guest House Tokiwa was our favourite accommodation in Japan. We adored staying here and would absolutely do so again! Th - Daisuke San and Daruma the CEO were wonderful hosts! All of the staff was very helpful and gave us so many suggestions for where to go and how to get there. The location was very close to the train, and the home itself was spacious and clean. Everything was perfect!
- Shino (9/5): Superb -
- Shino (9/5): Superb - Very friendly staff and also the owner. Very clean and well maintained.
Cute daruma also welcoming me…
- Daniela (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect: close to the mall, convenience store, and station. The owner (and his dog) were very friendly and nice!
- Bec (10/5): Exceptional - Daisuke was an amazing host. The accommodation was super easy to find and amazingly located. No negatives!
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - It felt like home. Daisuke is cheerful and helpful and the lodgings were very comfortable.
- 宜澄 (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Klára (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Good - The complimentary washing and drying. Arigato!
Privacy.
Location. Futon is not for me.
- Ferrando (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional - Staying here was a great experience, especially with Daruma welcoming you and enjoying your company. I managed to have the first room to the right, next to the kitchen, and I had no problems with anything. The housekeeper was very helpful and happy to explain anything I did not understand.
- Ye (9/5): Relaxing and comfortable for solo travelers - It was a perfect location if somebody would like to visit Fujinomiya. The bed was so comfortable that I could not woke up by my alarm. I slept more than 10 hours after the long trip via all the local train connections. The city is small and almost all attractions were accessible on foot. The owner is cool and his dog is lovely. I enjoy the late check out time at 12.00 which is the normal check out time worldwide but not normal for Japanese.
- Ooi (10/5): Exceptional stay in a chill city - Daisuke-san is such a welcoming and attentive person. He hoped that we could relax during our stay and slowly, taking our time to enjoy this lovely city. The room is so comfortable, it had everything we needed and Daruma, the CEO patrolling around the house just makes our stay even more delightful. You can easily spend a good morning enjoying the stunning view of Mt. Fuji from the balcony. We really loved our stay as everything was just perfect!
- Kailey (10/5): Exceptional - The host was super nice and welcoming! The place was fantastic!
- Kris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pamela (9/5): Superb -
- Vesterbacka (10/5): Exceptional - A great host and a lovely dog. Everything you need is there. Close to train station, and Daisuke is very helpful providing info etc when needed. Nothing, everything was great.
- Dunia (9/5): Superb - Lovely guest house, everything was clean and comfortable. Great location.
Host was very friendly and helpful and we loved having Daruma-kun running around 🐶 definitely recommend. Children should be a bit older though as not to disturb other guests, it's an old Japanese house so keep an eye on noise and limited space.
- Louise (8/5): Great location and great value. - Very friendly owner. Made me feel right at home. Had my own room very a very reasonable price. Could see Fuji from my balcony!
- Nguyen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Petcharatana (9/5): Superb - Location
- Wit (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly house owner. The whole house and free parking. Location A bit cold.
- Rieger (10/5): Exceptional - Nice english speaking owner
Comfy house
Best pillow and futon to sleep on
- Michaella (9/5): Simple, yet comfortable and cozy! - Perfect location close to the station, with the cutest dog (Daruma chan). Comfortable bed and good shower. The owner was so nice and helpful :)
- Bridget (10/5): Japanese cultural icons encapsulated! - An awesome place to stay - home away from home complete with a wonderful host and his dog next door in a great little town close to all amenities and the train station very close. A great privilege to be taken to see the sunrise at the lake with Mount Fuji included in the price. We are not into manga but there is even a manga room! Great for families and a mix of traditional and bunk beds with separate rooms. Well worth a visit in your quest for seeing Mount Fuji and experiencing Japanese culture and hospitality - thank you so much Daisuke and Daruma and we hope you enjoyed the snack! That we only stayed one night!
- Amanda (9/5): Great value, a great antidote to busy city experience. - Friendly host and opportunity to see sunrise over Mt Fuji was much appreciated. Great location near bus/train station.
- Stephanie (10/5): Homely guesthouse with a sweet dog - I chose this place over a nearby slightly cheaper options because I read there was a very sweet dog here. I was not disappointed. Daruma (dog) is an absolute sweetheart and Daisuke (human) was so incredibly welcoming. I was given a map with plenty of great things to see around town and spent some evenings learning so much about Mt Fuji from Daisuke. Conveniently located just a short walk from the train station and bus stop. Can definitely recommend staying here!
- Zyk (10/5): I want to return - Kageyama was exceptional, kind, welcoming. He offered me complimentary home made dinner (miso soup) on the first night, it was delicious. He also gifted me a calendar featuring photography of and around Fuji.
The facilities were great. My room was spacious, (I actually thought my room was going to be shared with other guests but it was a room all to myself). The heated carpet provided toasty warmth through the futon.
Bathroom and sink were cleaned daily.
Daruma. Just Daruma.
All up, I really would love to return. But not just because of the facilities, but because of Kageyama. Nothing ❤️
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fragoso (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan_8228 (10/5): Best place to stay in Fujinomiya - Very friendly Host, highly recommended.
- Jill (10/5): Homestyle stay for our group of 5 was comfortable and great location to access trains and buses for Mt. Fiji area. - Very welcoming place and owner was so accommodating. We loved Daruma, our host's dog !!! Nothing in particular except we stayed for a short time and wish to come back
- Pedro (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing host!
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (10/5): Great host, great location, and very good value. - Daisuke is the best host. Guest house is only two minutes walk from the train station. Very quiet, and Daruma is the cutest wee dog.
- Stacey (9/5): Superb -
- Matt (10/5): Would recommend Daisuke kageyama place to anyone looking for accomodation in Fujinoya.⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ - Place has a pocket view of the famous mountain and Host Daisuke kageyama is a nice and friendly person. Guided us through his place and drove us to take photos of Mt Fuji and tea garden before heading to the train station. Would recommend his place to anyone looking for accomodation.
- José (10/5): Great stay for family and/or friends. Amazing location, staff, and comfort. - Family house with a lot of room. Beds were very confortable, and kitchen was well equipped.
Great location to catch bus to mt. fuji (3 min walk to both bus station and train station).
Staff were great.
- Noctaul (10/5): A unique and real experience - The fantastic city of fujinomya and the friendliness of the host were awesome. I really recommend this place for everyone who wants a cute and peaceful house in a small but characteristic city and also for everyone who wants to climb the Fuji! It isn't a real problem but being in a house with a shared bathroom and kitchen is surely not for everyone. For me it was instead an awesome opportunity to bond with the hosts
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Caroline (6/5): It was okay - Nice spot
- Steven (10/5): Perfect Stay - The owner showed us through every room and gave us tips for the local area when we checked in. His tips saved us about 6,000 yen in parking and transportation fees.
He had about every amenity I could think of and even personally put our dirty laundry (we had been on the road for days) in the laundry machine for us.
It was a user-friendly experience. I live in Japan and travel a lot domestically. This is probably the best value you will get out of a stay in a city or the countryside in Japan. I am 79 inches (roughly 2 meters) tall. The house we stayed in is the typical low-doorway type one sees with older houses in Japan. People definitely need to watch their heads if they are tall. My 70-inch 15-year-old son also had to duck slightly under doorways.
The doorway height is nothing to complain about. I would select this place over all others if I visited the area again. However, it is something to consider for those, who are extremely tall.
- Charindech (7/5): It is a good place for a short or medium term in Fukuoka. Good Location and Good value to your money - We love that the location is great for traveling. It is very easy to get to the station, Aeon Mall, Fuji Museum and Bus terminal. The restaurant around the place also decent and located near the convenient store. Due to the time we visit this place the cost of living, government tax, and electricity is spiked like crazy.
To maintain the guesthouse to be able to function, the host requires to work secondary jobs, so they are not able to facilitate the minor request we might inquire about. However, the guesthouse can provide us with the primary function without problem.
- Niklas (9/5): Superb - Great location right next to the station which also has a large mall with many restaurants, an arcade and a cinema nearby.
Staff was friendly and helpful with my questions.
I think I got a 2 person room for myself since no one else booked it, which was then quite spacious. It was a little hard to find when I arrived, just as a heads up.
- Carrie (10/5): amazing place to stay while in Fujinomiya especially if you plan to climb Mt. Fuji. - Spacious and comfortable, very convenient location. The host is amazing so friendly and accommodating.
- Kritayaporn (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was very kind and helpful. He took us to Yamato Transport Office and help us to communicate with the staff. Thank you very much. Moreover the CEO (Daruma the dog) was very friendly. He welcomed us with warm greetings.
Definately come back. None
- Ho (10/5): Amazing, friendly host - Nice environment, comfortable N/A
- Kanchana (10/5): Friendly, Good location Guest House. - Feel like we are stay at our home.
Guest House owner are very kind and friendly No
- Kamol_s (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rm-r (8/5): Great option for a day hike of Fuji - The host is what makes this property so great: very friendly and helpful with local knowledge. He is especially helpful if you are interested in climbing the Fujinomiya trail...will deliver you to the shuttle bus parking lot in time for the first bus of the day. The shuttle bus from the 5th station will bring you right back to the train station at the end of the day (and it's about 2 minutes' walk from the Fujinomiya train station to your accommodations).
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Getting the full Japanese experience - This is a quaint and quirky little guesthouse. It is an old traditional Japanese house. We loved sleeping on the mats on the floor. Daisuke-san was knowledgeable and helpful, friendly and welcoming. CEO Daruma patrols the house and loves a good scratch and cuddle.
- Olga (10/5): wondeful place to experience the Japanese hospitality! - The guesthouse is cosy and comfortable and the host is extra caring and nice!
- Mullen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zuzana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Filip (10/5): Authentic lovely accomodation under Fujisan - Very kind and hospitable owner, cute dog, right next to JR station, great local authentic accomodation and bathroom, we also very much appreciated an early morning trip to a lake to view sunrise behind Fujisan!
- Joona (10/5): Excellent - A very nice guest house. Friendly owner, great location; Fujinomiya has a lot to offer. There are two parking spots available, one was provided to me free of charge.
- Kanaporn (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - Our host Daisku was so friendly and helpful, he really made us feel at home. The guest house is a good location afew minutes walk from the station. It's spacious and comfortable and great value. Would definitely stay again.
- Yan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sze (9/5): Superb - A very warm housing, just like staying at home. The location is very convenient and the house owner is very nice! I wish I could stay more days here~
- Dovie (10/5): Guest House Tokiwa is a wonderful place to stay! - We enjoyed our stay in Fujinomiya and appreciated Daisuke-san's hospitality. He greeted us upon arrival and shared information and maps about the area. Because my kids love dogs, he brought his adorable dog over for them to play with. He gave us a great recommendation for dinner at a restaurant that is one minute away, and it was the best meal we had in Japan. He took us for a free trip to Lake Tanuki to see the sunrise over Mt. Fuji. We stayed in the guest house annex, which felt very homey and welcoming. We were very happy we stopped for a night in Fujinomiya on our way from Kyoto to Tokyo.
- Zhou (9/5): Superb -
