Guest Reviews
- Lloyd (8/5): Awesome - Lake None
- Phillip (9/5): - Amazing place with canoes and paddle boards available to explore the lakes. Easy access to town Accomodation rather dated needs a refresh.
- Colleen (8/5): Will be back! - The staff are super accommodating and allowed us to use the resort amenities even after check out! Much appreciated. Just refreshing.
- Sheila (10/5): We stayed there for a family wedding nearby. Such a convienent location and the staff there was so friendly- they went a - Perfect location in buckhorn - close to everything Sheets and towels would be a nice addition
- Shelby (10/5): We kayaked down a lazy river, caught the biggest fish the regulars at the resort had seen all summer. The cottage came s - Absolutely loved everything about this quaint little resort. The staff is extremely friendly and so are the regulars who stay the summer here! Definitely will be recommending this place to family and friends and I will absolutely be back!
- Christine (7/5): -
- Tomomi (10/5): Friendly staff and great location for fishing - Great location It was cold night and morning
- craig (10/5): Thank you Alex for making our stay as wonderful the second time as the first. - The location is private but central to all things in town. Well withing walking distance. The property is clean and quiet. It is what you expect a cottage you be. Alex is a very friendly and most gracious host. We were upgraded to what I believe to be the best location at the resort. This is our second time here and we will be sure to come again. I think Lower Buckhorn is the jewel of the Kawarthas and there is no better place to enjoy it than at sunrise resort. I do not have a bad thing to say about the property, the location, or the host. This was exactly what we were looking for in a long weekend getaway.

- Gail (9/5): Superb - The cottage was ideal for one person or a couple. It is a few steps from the lake and has a small patio area with a bbq and table to enjoy the view. They are so close to the highway that there is a lot of traffic, which can be quite loud when transport trucks or large equipment passes.
- Margaret (9/5): Perfect for me and my little doggie - Gorgeous waterfront cabin in very clean well stocked condition with patio and dock and BBQ. Children's swings, firepirepit, horseshoes, and much more.
- Dave (7/5): Good -
- Melanie (9/5): Superb -
- Jeff (8/5): Very good -
- Phillip (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (9/5): We had the best time and cannot wait to come back again. - Very clean and well kept. Nothing!
- Bill (9/5): Superb -
- Kindra (10/5): Amazing. - Gorgeous. Private but still close tot own and other cabins if you want socialize Nothing!
- Albert (7/5): Over all we really enjoyed our stay at Sunrise, and our day trips in the area - our cottage was right at the water edge, our boat was docked right in front of the cottage
the cottage was well equipped
we enjoyed boating on the lake
the location of the resort is great the showers need refurbishing, need proper useable shower heads
sewer system needs upgrading
- Francisca (7/5): Good and satisfied - Location, the lake was so beautiful, Quite and Alex was very helpful No heater we were so cold especially at night when it was raining for 3 days/night.
- Kristen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wei (7/5): Good -
- Dwayne (10/5): Exceptional - There was lots of things to do there. Right close to Buckhorn. Lots of fishing to do and you're very close to the trans-seven waterway. Nothing.
- Jeremy (7/5): If the proprietor is going to charge $300.00 to clean sheets, it should be written somewhere for public service. - It was picturesque and quiet and the break were looking for My wife sadly had a heavy period and was rather unwell. It put a damper on our trip
- Ed (10/5): We enjoyed our stay here very much and will come back! - The owners, Alex & his wife, are very friendly, live on premises and are always availalbe. Very friendly, peaceful and relaxed atmoshphere. This resort gives a real cottagey feel, which is what we were looking for. Our unit was super clean and everything is well maintained. There is a main road close by so you can hear some traffic but it certainly did not dampen or inhibit our enjoyment.
- Kayla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional - This is a small quiet family run cottages. The cottages feel so quiet and private but you are a 2 minute walk to the Trent canal locks. You can't ask for a better location. The cottage we rented was very clean and provided all the amenities we needed. Alex was extremely nice to deal with and a pleasure to talk to. The rates are fantastic for what you get. There is more than enough room to sit back and relax and just enough activities to keep the children occupied. We really enjoyed our time here and are looking forward to our return. Thanx We were happy just the way it was.
- Stephen (5/5): For over $400 this was disappointing to say the least. - It was close to my reunion. That's it. No breakfast, lunch or dinner. There was no food served or offered. It was a cook your own room. There was no AC and the shower was not great. It was right beside a boat launch ramp and at 6AM it was a bit noisy.
- Sean (9/5): Superb -
- Bill (7/5): Good -
- Marr (5/5): Passable - It was a great place to sit by the water. There was something for everyone.
- Tammy (8/5): Very good -
- Donna (7/5): Good -
- Leslie (10/5): Exceptional - This place is awsome great fishing..the locks are right there
Grocery store and liquor store across the street..you can dock your boat outside your cottage..we had a latge 3 bedroom.
Place to swim..with paddle boats and kayaks..will be back in August..
- Tracy (9/5): Going back again. - Second time visiting. Great stay both times. Great fun fishing and canoeing. Alex is a great host always there to help. Kitchen is fully stocked and place is clean enough. Spent most time outdoors enjoying the view. Toilet had a loose bolt or something so it was a little tippy and worrisome. Community fire pit. But this trip the cottages took turns with the fire pit so wasn’t too bad.
- Rudderham (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great
- O'regan (10/5): So many things to do, the host Alex is very friendly and accommodating! - Lots of stuff to do, access to kayaks, canoes, sand up boards. Great view by the water and lots of fishing. Close to the locks and a small town within 5min walking to grab something to eat or ice cream
- Chauvin (7/5): Good -
- Leslie (8/5): Very good -
- Almas (8/5): Very good -
- Courtenay (10/5): Exceptional - Being so close to the lock and town, it was nice watching the boat go through. There was some road traffic, but that is to be expected
- Patricia (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (3/5): Poor - The waterfront, docks and boats were close and nice. The staff was very polite The cabin was in very poor condition. Floors were all quite slanted and bounced a lot. Definitely a mouse problem as we had to clean all the dishes in the kitchen because they smelled.
There were three bowls and 4 plates all of various sizes in a cabin designed to sleep 6. Cups and glasses all looked like they were won or taken home from different restaurants. All plastic and low quality. This was billed as a family cabin but there wasn't enough plates, cups, bowls or glasses for us to have a meal together.
Only one outlet on the entire upper floor where the bedrooms were, with no air conditioning we couldn't even plug in fans.
Shower had no pressure and the bottom wasn't sealed so the water just flowed under it to the floor. Fridge was dirty, everywhere where they had updated electrical or plumbing was simply left exposed without trim or drywall being replaced and could easily be accessed by the kids. Had to block off sections of the cabin.
WiFi was spotty at best and this matters with young kids when the weather gets lousy. Again, this was listed as a family friendly cottage, not a fishing/hunting lodge.
This would have been okay for a fishing party that was spending no time in the cabin but with a family it was a pretty awful experience. To repeat, this was billed as a family friendly cottage, not a fishing/hunting lodge. That's why I expected a higher quality, especially at over $300/ night
We ended up buying all paper and plastic kitchen supplies and then ordering out for food instead of cooking in the kitchen.
One of our family members has bouts of vertigo and the upstairs was so slanted and the floors so wobbly they had to sleep on the futon in the living room.
Overall we were very disappointed with the whole experience. Definitely will not recommend or return.
- Wyllie (10/5): Exceptional - Owner was friendly, approachable and available Had to go home
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Terri (8/5): Overall an enjoyable stay, great views and opportunities to see wildlife. Great location. - Great location. The view was gorgeous, lots of opportunities to see wild life, and free kayak/canoe usage. A 5 min walk to the lock 31, where we got to see boats pass through. The park around the lock was beautiful to walk around and sit and relax with more gorgeous lake views. Also close to damn to view and walk across. Walking distance to many restaurants. A short drive to see the Adam and Eve rocks ( 5 mins) and a 10 min drive to the beach with a sandbar, which was great for swimming. Staff super friendly and helpful. The rooms didn’t have air conditioning and there were periods of the day that were quite hot. They do provide a fan. The beach is super small and very reedy so, not very nice for swimming. The kayaks they provide are limited in numbers and hard to get access to, as kids would mostly use them to play in around the beach so it was hard to get one to use on the lake to check out the view/nature.
- Helena (10/5): Exceptional - Staff are amazing!
- Bill (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and excellent staff , Ramon and his wife were great to us and was always asking if we need anything Nothing fancy , for the price was great
- Jeff (5/5): it was just ok nothing special -
- Marco (8/5): Staff surpassed expectations - Access to the lake to swim
- Dawn (9/5): Had a really nice stay with my daughter. Beautiful area. - Ray was an excellent host. Was very kind, and hospitable. Did not like the weedy swimming area.
- Dr. (10/5): Exceptional - Location and staff Shower
- Maria (7/5): very nice view , quiet and peaceful - no meals service
- Tim (10/5): Enjoyable stay at a friendly resort. - Very close to town. Great wifi and TV. Fantastic amenities with the community fire pit and kayaks,SUPS, canoes and paddle boats. Raymond and Doris are fantastic hosts, always busy and so friendly. We will be back soon! nothing to complain about
