Guest Reviews
- masyhurnyabagan (10/5): Value for money, strategic location! - The hotel is quite an old building hotel, but very value for money. The staffs are friendly. The best thing about this hotel is... the location! Located next to Butterworth Art Walk, opposite Dewan Dato Ahmad Badawi, near Nasi Kandar Jamal, Sri Ananda Bahwan, Sin Bee Chew Restaurant and Rojak Tonggek Butterworth.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Old concept and
- Butterworth_art_walk (10/5): Worth the Budget and Great Location - Next to Butterworth Artwalk and others Butterworth attractions. Just in front of the DDAB (famous event spots). The warm receptionist and the room is specious and worth with your financial budget. Near to Penang Sentral, easy travel by bus - (5 minutes) and grab. Next to Penang Port.
- azrin73 (8/5): Good hotel - Lodge 18 is a value for money hotel.. Paid 103 nett for a twin bedded room.. very clean and tidy.. only setback water pressure not that great. At 26sq m for the room size it offers the best rate most hotel in butterworth rated 3 stars or lower offers room size of 16sq m.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good Services

- Verified traveler (6/5): - He thought I was a prostitute and told me to upgrade the room!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - He thought that I was a prostitute!
- ILIAS (8/5): Will stay again. - Have been staying here everytime I came to Butterworth. Worth the price.
- Stephenie (8/5): - Friendly receptionists and comfort places. Just near to Penang Sentral, easy to access. I just love it!
- Zukafle (8/5): Good - Good
- BobdogH (10/5): Worthy stay - Strategic hotel location, but limited car parking space. AirCond leaking at bathroom door.
- nor (6/5): A very convenience stay - A very convenience stay with many nearby food outlets opening until late hours.
- lawsonkoh (6/5): A NICE STOPOVER FOR PENANG ISLAND - The cashier wanted to see my credit card to prove my identity even when I shown him my passport and the electronic purchase printout. Took a few minutes of hassle to convince him I have one credit card for internet purchase and another for oversea travel. Did not bring that card. Another grievances is the tainted bathtub.
A Plus - Convenient! You could see it just outside the bus terminal. That no way anyone could miss it especially at night when it is very well lighted up. A very easy walking distance of 100 metre - maybe - ten minutes leisure walk!
Stayed in July 2018
- Verified traveler (6/5): - value for money with the facility provided. Street Art just next door (just walk to enjoy the mural on the wall). So far on par for the cost spent.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Old hotel - Door lock broken , swith tab broken , smelly room and air conditioner sound so loud , can't have good sleep
- Maxiesan (6/5): Basic facilities and clean - Not a bad place to overnight with very helpful reception staff
Rooms of a budget nature and this was after upgrading, should imagine the standard room is basic
In need of an upgrade and redecoration
Nearby banks and ATMs
Taxis available and a short distance to the railway station and ferry to Penang Island
On reflection, I’d stay again
- guey tsair (8/5): - so far so good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was clean and very comfortable
- choon317 (6/5): budget hotel - nearby ferry and UOB bank, walk in and booked for one night,a small room (without window) with old furniture.bottle water, tower and body shampoo in room.get a room that is meant for a budget stay so can't expect much
- Verified traveler (4/5): A Quiet Gateway - This is my second year checked in to the same hotel during the new year eve. Only less than 10 mins away from the crowded and noisy city centre, I can finally find my serenity here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Spacious Room - The hotel facilities appeared to be few years behind but given the spacious bedroom size and the big bed added up some + points for my review. I'll stay here again.
- Sally E (6/5): Very basic but mostly okay - The Lodge 18 is very basic. On the other hand, it's also very cheap. I reserved a "deluxe" room, thinking we might like whatever additional luxury was available. The room was clean and good sized and had the necessities--bed, pillows, towels, aircon, bathroom, shower, soap, glasses, and drinking water. No refrigerator, though. The shower is in a full sized bathtub, which was a bit hard to get in and out of. There was not enough hot water for our showers to be comfortable. I chose the hotel at least partly because a previous reviewer said the neighborhood had shops and restaurants, but by the time we arrived about 8:30 PM, almost everything had shut down. There is a convenience store across the street, and we finally found a good Indian restaurant around the block. For breakfast, we headed to the Palm Tree hotel across the street, which looks a bit more upmarket. I appreciated the fact that there was a lift, so we didn't have to drag our bags upstairs, and the electronic door locks seem to be good quality. Overall, I guess you get what you pay for, and for a quick overnight with an early morning meeting, the Lodge 18 was fine.
- 771rachelc (6/5): Decent hotel - Booked 2 rooms, family suite and twin room. Family suite is great but twin room a dissapointment. Upon go in, strong smells of ciggarates, some sections of the floor near the bed is dirty. TV Remote not function despite changing new battery and staff promise to look after it in the morning but nothing been done. Overall, is ok.
- ILIAS (8/5): Convenient and near to food outlets. - Checkin and checkout was fast and staff were attentive . Nice clean room.
- Agus Purwa (10/5): Superb hotel stay - Friendly staffs and great value for money
- Lucas (6/5): Hotel quite ok - Superior room is quite big with a big bathtub. Environment quite & clean. Just disappoint on the tv with no signal for normal channel and nothing to watch. The rest is quite ok.
- VinodN30 (6/5): Pit-Stop to Krabi - The place has an old-world-rustic charm to it. The building was probably built in the late 70s or early 80s. Some of the fittings/furniture seem to be of that time.
It's affordable and it faces the main field "Dataran Pemuda Merdeka". If you are lodged on the 6th floor (Room 601) your view would be panoramic as the windows are huge and clean.
The rooms were relatively clean and so was the bathrooms. The air conditioner was strong but the brown bed cover seemed dusty and old with cigarette holes – it's probably seen better days. The towels were fresh and clean and the shower had hot water.
All and all it was good as a rest n go place.
- ashleymS4623FC (8/5): Great staff, budget hotel - We stayed here as a stopover before getting the ferry to Penang island the next morning. We arrived at the hotel at 1am and there was no problem checking in. The room was great for the price, with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The room also had a TV with English speaking channels.
Due to a function being held at the hotel, the chef had prepared a special Malaysian breakfast. The Manager, Tommy offered us two extra portions free of charge, which were delicious. He also drove us to the port, going beyond our expectations.
This is a great stopover hotel. If we are ever in the area again we will be sure to visit and would recommend for those on a budget.
- nurulhafizanoordin (2/5): Worst Hotel Ever! - At first we called the reception department to ask few things regarding the hotel but they seems to be really really not helping and rude tu. Pretend like they can't listen but actually they can.
We check in and they don't even apologize or what so ever.
The room is big but all he furniture is old and we can smell that "old room" , its like 1980's. The hallway is so scary also, not suitable to stay alone .
The worst thing ever about this hotel is the bed!
It's not soft and comfortable at all . The major failure is when at night we are sleeping, got red-ant (semut api) crawling around out bed and of course it felt really really itchy , how can this happened??
Only got one staff, the Indian woman who is nice .
Overall, this hotel is not recommended at all . Go stay at Chariton is better.
Not recommended for leisure . for budget business trip better go Chariton. For leisure, better go to the island near baru ferringghi
- Qemmal (4/5): A basic hotel - Situated just nearby ferry. The hotel just got 1 lift, can't imagine if the lift under maintenance since my room at 7th floor.
If you would like to iron your clothes, you have to go to lobby at receptionist. There's a partition there with and iron.
The receptionist was not friendly when i called to borrow their iron board.
However, if you are in a short trip, you might consider this hotel.
- Alok8686 (4/5): Not fully refurbished - I booked a family room but the room is not how it looks like on their website or Agoda. Totally disappointed. The room with living hall is old, aircond is noisy and bathroom is filthy! Nothing nearby... just the ferry terminal.
Not going to stay there again.
- MohdNazriHirwant (6/5): Old and classic - The hotel is quite simple, match with its appearance as a budget hotel. The lobby is nice & the elevator is classic. RM88 for a standard room is a good deal. The room is spacious, have a tv, wifi & some other things. Lucky for us as we book the room with window; so we can view the town from our room (the town is dead anyway). You may find some 'old' smell in the room, but it's not too strong; eventually you will not bother it after you open the window. There's no breakfast, but there's a mini stall in front of the hotel and kfc is nearby too.
- ChoonhongC (8/5): Black out - sudden blackout in room(510) while showering. staff and (boss) help fixing it, fail though. Eventually, got change to another room. it takes me wait like 15 minutes. everything is just fine. however, i will be more than happy IF there is window in standard room.
- msnair (6/5): Okay for a Stay on Budget - Service at the reception was welcoming and good but other than that, you get a room that is meant for a budget stay so can't expect much. The bathroom was not clean but the bed and room areas are fine. some lights inside the room were not working. there was strong smoke smell especially in the windowless room. It was noisy at night when I think the occupant upstairs were trying to rearrange their beds at midnight. I would recommend this place if you are on a tight budget, spending a few days and only need a place to sleep at night..
- AKTP (2/5): Too old ! Need a renovation !! - We have stayed at several hotels in Butterworth, but this hotel was the worst for the moment.
The reception looked not really bad, but the room was terrible, too old without any maintenance...
I did not feel confortable and felt itchy everywhere under my skin for some reasons...
We would not recommend this hotel to anyone for the room quality.
However, a receptionist (young girl) was quite nice and helpful.
- mrsandmrsm (8/5): Amzazing - Lovely stay. Although there was an odd smell at about 3 am :-s
- Ajs241 (6/5): Very ordinary - tidy room with old appointments ,dirty, noisy location, unfriendly staff, good value for money but that's about it
- leenie1950 (2/5): Avoid Travel Lodge in Wheatley!!! - A group of about 15 of us stayed in this hotel after a wedding. The rooms were an absolute disgrace:
Carpets...Stained
Walls....Peeling orange paint
Sofa.....Stained
Curtains.....full of holes
Bathroom....disgustingly un-usable with stains and mould.
Windowsill was a fly cemetery.
Beds..surprisingly clean but had absolutely no support, so sagged in the middle.
I would advise everyone to stay away from this place. Our rooms had all been booked over the internet weeks in advance so that we didn't have a long drive home after a wedding reception. Our complaints were met with complete indifference. 50 british pounds per room and we were unable to even take a shower the next morning! I repeat......Stay away from this place.
- nessy33 (2/5): Awful stay at Travel Lodge - it was probably the worst night ever!!! the room was what i would expect a prison cell to be like!! the bed was like a bean bag, i couldn't wait for day light to arrive. Only Two staff appeared to be on duty, they run from reception to the bar to the kitchen. Whilst waiting for ourfood i could hear the pinging of the microwave. When food came it was awful, my teenage son could have done better!! Oh yeah and why only 3 pillows supplied for a double bed? Definatley wil NEVER stay at a Travel Lodge EVER again
