Guest Reviews
- Pat (8/5): - Quiet Tv were small and to far from bed . This is bad for someone with vision and hearing loss.
- Madge (6/5): Employes were Great Just didn't have a room with view and was dark and depressing - I was expecting a room with a balcony, and I got a room with NO VIEW AT ALL NOT A HAPPY ROOM THE ROOM WAS DARK AND DEPRESSING WITH NO VIEW
- Heather (10/5): - Location, staff was friendly. NA
- Trina (10/5): -
- Jane (10/5): - Check in very friendly and helpful with things to go and places to eat. Breakfast was excellent and dining area had a great view of town, Ohio River and bridge. Location in historic area, lots to do- walked river walk and visitor’s center close. Visitor center employee was wry helpful, they had tours of area. Nothing

- Todd (10/5): Awesome Get Away! - The View Was Absolutely Amazing! You could hear people in the next room. You could hear the toliets flush in other rooms.
- Courtney (8/5): Great stay! Would recommend - Great location! The breakfast hours said 6am-10am but when we got to breakfast after 9am it was closed.
- Cheryl (10/5): It was a nice stay for overnight. - Location. Friendly staff. Clean Breakfast….hardly any bacon
- Rebecca (9/5): We like Hillside for its convenience, cleanliness and friendliness. - It feels comfortable, clean, safe, convenient, the view is nice at breakfast, breakfast is reasonable. We like coming there and will continue doing so.
- Dawn (9/5): -
- Hassan (8/5): Good Location, cozy hotel but not he best breakfast. - The location of Hotel is at very prime area. Downtown is nearby. The Hotel is not bad at all. The Quality of Breakfast is not at its best. It can be improved. There was a weird smell in the potatoes. The Eggs were also very sweaty.
- Larry (10/5): - We love this hotel. Close to everything
- Hudak (9/5): It was very pleasant. - The hotel is within walking distance of all the shops and down to the River. It definitely is a magical town to go clear your mind at!!! Brew the strong coffee option with 4 sugar and creamer to make the perfect cup of Folgers. There is no seating to sit below the parking lot and enjoy the scene and traffic watch. Would be nice near the railing outside from the breakfast area to have seating to relax in.
- Stephanie (7/5): - The view, the location. The room was nice. Having to evacuate in the middle of the night due to electrical fire and being sent to a hotel that wasnt even half as nice. The hotel we went to smelled terrible and the facilities were not good. We were told it would be a free nights stay since we had to evacuate. Did not get refunded for a full night.

- Chris (8/5): Overall the satisfied with our stay here. Enjoyed the balcony views and the nostalgia of this old pl - The breakfast was okay. The location and views of town and tge river were great. The bed was not comfortable for me, but I have neck issues. Could have been just me.
- Patricia (10/5): -
- Mohmmed (1/5): - Room’s not too clean Customer service and the people inside they’re noisy

- Eva (10/5): - We just wanted to be able to come to a quiet place for an overnight. The view was awesome from our balcony and we will definitely be returning again! A microwave in our room would’ve been nice, but other than that, we couldn’t have been happier with the room!
- Joe and Jennifer (9/5): -
- dawn (8/5): It was a nice long weekend - The hotel was fine..walking distance to everything
- Skipper (10/5): -
- Lori (7/5): It was enjoyable despite the issues. - The view and the location NO WATER PRESSURE IN SHOWER ! One outlet that worked. The breakfast was mediocre. For the cost of the room.
- Jarka (8/5): -
- Beth (3/5): Disappointing - The view from the balcony Noise. Dirty rooms. Moved to another room. Just as noisy.
- Janette (8/5): - Spacious room, balcony, views, bed was comfortable. Good breakfast. Free parking. If you provide a fridge you should also have a microwave and a real coffee maker.
- John (7/5): - Small room, no closet, no place to hang your clothes. No clock, terrible view. Everything was old dated and worn out. Price location history.
- Teresa (8/5): - The king size bed, balcony, view. Motion light in the bathroom, light went off while showering. No microwave.
- Shaw (10/5): We love coming to the Hillside and will return soon!! - We love the cleanliness, spa tub, friendly staff. The mattress was very uncomfortable
- Teffany (7/5): -
- Christine (5/5): Unfortunately it’s hard on the spectrum. Amazing view and the rest was a huge disappointment - The view was wonderful We had no hot water in the shower. The walls are so thin, you hear full conversations in the hallway. The breakfast was one of the worst I ever had. The eggs were cold and full of water. The bacon wasn’t cooked at all. Coffee was maybe a six ounce cup. Only one choice of juice the other was out of order. The potatoes were completely dried up and cold.
- Jason (8/5): -
- Jeremy (8/5): -
- Tim (10/5): - Pretty much everything. The breakfast was great and so was the spa tub.
- Marla Brown (10/5): -
- Arney (9/5): -
- Eileen (9/5): Great time, Great time. Will be back. - I love that it is an older hotel, but also, well kept. We’ve stayed here multiple times over the years, and I’ve never been disappointed. The staff is friendly and accommodating. When the weather is good, I love sitting in the rockers on the patio, and watching the cars go by. We couldn’t do that this time with the winter storm coming in, but we will certainly be back. It’s a little trip back in time without having to compromise on cleanliness…. N/A
- Amy (10/5): Charming & Magical, just what I needed to Relax - The Hillside is a charming, our bed was incredibly comfortable and our view of the city and Ohio River was magical. The hotel staff are always friendly and accommodating, making it a perfect getaway to recharge my batteries. We absolutely will come again.
- Emily (10/5): -
- Kristy (7/5): -
- Lynn (9/5): - The location, the balcony, staff overall just a great place nothing much
- Kathryn (1/5): We did not stay at this hotel because it was filthy and stinks. - We did not stay and asked to cancel reservations after we saw the room. The room was dirty and smelled musty. The front desk was inappropriate and again, we did not end up staying at this hotel. The city people call it the mold Inn. We will review it in Google. EVERYTHING!!!!!!
- Leon (9/5): It was a very good stay all in all - Breakfast was pretty fake Better breakfast
- Jill (9/5): It was great. - I liked the convenience and cleanliness of the room. And, of course, the view! I was disappointed that we couldn't sit out front in the dining room to get a better view with our breakfast.
- Marlene (10/5): Beautiful view, helpful staff - The view of the river and town. Beautiful. It actually would have been the perfect place to watch the fireworks had we stayed one or two more nights.
Even though we had a small room it didn’t feel crowded. Everything is updated.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room spotless. The staff communicated with each other and were ready to help us in our last minute crisis. Thankfully everything worked out, but they were there for us.
- Vicki (3/5): Would not stay there again. - I liked the balcony area. The bed creaked when you moved. There were only two outlets in the room. There were items that were out and needed to be refilled at breakfast. Had to tell the lady to refill the items even though she was right there seeing the eggs were gone. The food that was supposed to be hot was barely warm.
- Rocky (8/5): -
- Stephanie (1/5): Not great - The view was good everything else was a problem. Arrived prior to my wedding and was told the air was out and they were working on it... Received a call hours later stating they still had no a/c and that we could either stay for a discount with no a/c in 95 degree weather or get a refund and be booked at another lower quality motel and have to pay out pf pocket for that as well. My original room did not get refunded for almost a full week later and the entire experience was not good. I understand A/C issues happen however they could've made better accommodations than the motel down the way. I will not return to this hotel
- Danny (10/5): - We had a beautiful view of Madison and the Ohio river and the breakfast was great.
- Mark (8/5): We will be back - my son got a lot of use out of the balcony and enjoyed the view and close proximity to good dining and shopping
- David (7/5): It was good - A nice balcony overlooking the Ohio and the town Being double booked by booking.com and calling to get this resolved
- Karen (9/5): Had an excellent stay. The view is the best in town. - The view from the room was terrific. Our check in staff was amazing. Breakfast was good. Bed very comfortable. We would have liked a microwave, however, front desk said we could use the one in breakfast room.
- Mark (8/5): - I like the view and the location to downtown. Staff is very friendly rooms are always clean. For some reason there was a lot of street noise. This is uncommon and not the hotels fault.
Perhaps the city could enforce the noise ordinance.
- Sharon (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Have stayed here before and will again in the future. - Clean facilities. Well rounded breakfast; hot, fresh, well presented. Staff friendly. Went above board to accommodate the room I wanted. Soda/candy machine 95% empty!
- Laura (8/5): -
- GAIL (10/5): - I might mention that the bedsprings in 119 were squeaky, bathroom ceiling could use some attention. but did not disturb sleep at all. Otherwise both rooms very comfortable. and breakfast was very nice
- Ted (9/5): great, as always - reservation. room, breakfast nothing
- Brian (10/5): 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - My husband and I work 6 days a week. It's hard to get away. The town of Madison is amazing. You have 2 employees that are absolutely fabulous. They went above and beyond to help us with so many things. Miss Patty was incredible as well as Miss Beth. From restaurant choices to looking for real estate, they helped us with everything. The accommodations were clean , great size and balcony was perfect to see the town from way up high! We will be back! Steep drive
- Courtney (8/5): -
- Roger (9/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): - Great view, Great friendly staff. Breakfast was good. Very Clean Hotel!
- Angela (9/5): -
- Jackee (10/5): Good place to stay with an excellent view - hotel is very dated - view dated
- Tia (8/5): - The balcony
- Angie (8/5): Somewhat enjoy - Views Could hear highway noise all night.
- Danielle (8/5): -
- David (10/5): We have stayed here before. Rooms are always clean bed is comfortable. Love the views and they have a good breakfast. - Loved the view of downtown and river.
- Rodney (8/5): - The room and the view. The breakfast was less than average. No eggs
- Jurgens (9/5): Great location… needs some updating - The view of the river. It’s walkable to all stores and restaurants . Staff was great Could not smoke on balcony. I rented 4 rooms. All the rooms were different. My room was great, one was ok and one was not good
- Derek (10/5): I am excited to come back! - The room was tidy and the staff were amazing. Breakfast was meh
- MICHELLE (10/5): -
- Misty (6/5): It was just OK - The location and view from the room were great. The hotel room, bathroom, everything was outdated and not the cleanest. The breakfast was good but the dining room area was very cold.
- jonathan (7/5): Cozy river view down town place to stay - The view Not much
- Mark (10/5): Hillside Inn - History with a great view! - My wife and I really enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Hillside Inn. At the front desk, Kathy was really friendly and took great care of us. She is an excellent ambassador for both the Hillside and Madison.
Our 3rd floor room was spacious, comfortable and very clean, with a great view!! Very comfortable beds, nice bath and shower, and we never heard a sound from any of the other guest rooms. The hotel's entry, lobby, hallways, and breakfast dining room were all very, very clean and well kept. And, their breakfast is more like a Continental plus hot breakfast, and pretty good, too. Madison is a really great, well preserved historic river town and we would definitely stay at the Hillside again the next time we visit. With their great location high on a hill overlooking the main road from Kentucky into Madison, and all of their rooms facing that same direction, there is some occasional road noise primarily from big trucks.
(but, after walking all day and evening around Madison, once my head hit the pillow I barely noticed it)
- Charlotte (10/5): -
- Kathleen (7/5): Lovely, old hotel that needs updating. - Great view of river and downtown Main Street. Good breakfast included in price. Room was too hot. Whole hotel must be on heat or AC and must be difficult to switch between those. Hot weekend following cold spell = rooms too warm.
Road noise was very loud at times. Motorcycles and pickup trucks gunning engines at 2:00am. Particularly loud if window is open to cool room.
- douglas (8/5): Overall it was a nice place. Next time I will ask for a balcony room. - Location for what we wanted, was very good. Room was nice, a corner unit, a bit tight. lighting in the room to dim. The free breakfast was a little undercooked.
- wendling (7/5): - Staff was helpful. Location, close to shops and bars. Breakfast was good. Price was ok. Parking was easy. Balcony and view were great, but outside light and fan didn't work. vending machines were empty. Room was hot and had no way to control temp. THERE WAS NO BAR OR RESTARAUNT. Room was noisy, could here peple in outside of the room.
- Erika (10/5): - Beautiful views, great service, quiet Everything was great!
- Joe (8/5): Great location & views - The view of the city was beautiful, the staff was friendly, proximity to shops Traffic was loud, no smoking even outside on balcony
- Tyner (10/5): -
- Frazier (10/5): - Just a nice comfortable friendly clean place to stay. Can't wait to go back during the summer for the live music.
- Amie (6/5): -
- Ned (9/5): Nice stay. - The hillside location was cool, the staff was great and everything was clean. Traffic noise coming and going over the bridge was a bit much but that can’t be helped.
