- alanamarie105 (8/5): Sept 2025 review - We found the hotel staff to be very nice. The rooms were clean and staff friendly. The hotel is not near the winery, it is 1 km walk away, the winery itself is nice, but very sales focused. To book the restaurant on site, you have to pay for the dinner experience which is another wine tasting and push for wine club/sales. The restaurant is far away! You need to drive or arrange for a transfer that will cost you approx €30 round trip. The food was fabulous in all places. The app - WhatsApp to communicate is okay IF they respond. We arranged a transfer for pick up and no one showed up, we messaged and no one responded even by the next morning, hotel tried to charge for this but when we explained no one came, they adjusted it with out question. We also did the horse back riding experience, it was a lovely walk, but not worth the price. In short, I would not go back or recommend it but our stay good. With shuttles to and forth to the winery, restaurant - the total was just over €100 for 3 round trips. Hopes this helps anyone looking for an honest and recent review.

We really loved the complimentary wine tasting at their nearby winery! We only wish their rooftop deck would’ve been open for even better views. The hotel and winery are family owned and it’s very clear that they value every guest!
- Road28854359421 (10/5): Gorgeous room and amazing wine tasting experience!! - We were over in Italy for our 40th anniversary with dear friends and stayed with you for one night. We wish it could have been longer! What beautiful accommodations! The room we stayed in was gorgeous and spotless. Elio was a most gracious host, and he even upgraded our room from the one we had reserved. We also loved our wine tasting with Pietrino. What a fun evening of delicious wines, olive oil and balsamic vinegar! We can't wait to go back!
- stevewM293JN (10/5): Avoid this place - Worst experience on our two week vacation to Italy. No services, no help, the one front desk person leave at 4:00 and you are on your own. The winery which ran the hotel was supposed pick us up at 6:00 for dinner. They forgot we called the winery to remind them but had no cell service. We were trapped in an empty hotel with no way to get dinner.Finally called the emergency line for our travel agent at 2:00 am. their time. They ended up calling the winery to remind them to pick us up for dinner. The next morning we talked to the desk clerk when he opened and told him what happened. His answer was “I just work here” The situation was so bad we checked out 2 nights early on a 3 night prepay. Rather lose money than stay at this dump. Avoid this place
- Guide57669445313 (10/5): Great Quaint Hotel - The Hotel was very nice, beautiful view & warm, cozy place. the bedding was luxurious. Enjoyed our one night, would have liked to have stayed longer. The breakfast was simple but good. Eggs, local cold cuts, cheese's and a lot of pastries & yogurt!

- kenh6105 (10/5): Beautiful wine country hotel - We visited Torciano Hotel in October 2024. Although a little tricky to get there if you do not speak any Italian, we pushed through the challenges and arrived early evening. The room we had was very nice, and the view from the back of the hotel was amazing. Beautiful rolling hills with fields full of grape vines. We also had an awesome dinner at their winery, Tenuta Torciano. The service in both the winery and hotel was fantastic. They even have bottle of their wine that you can purchase through their honor bar. We would love to go back and spend more time enjoying the winery, the hotel, the views, and exploring the small town.
- swbarnet (4/5): Confused - This is a tough one…nice place. Rome was fine all clean and staff really nice. I have been traveling through Italy for 3 months using airborne and booking.com and this hotel is not being honest. Websit says 3 kilometers from San Gimignano. It’s at least 5 if not 6. There is absolutely nothing near this hotel. The website seems to ply that the winery is attached at it all part of the stay experience which is what I was looking for. Alert you will need to walk 15 minutes to the winery and if it at night have fun walking back in the dark. There is nothing solicit on the website to describe this place. I thin that there are a lot of tourists who accept this as normal. The winery experience is a very touristy experience that is NOT TYPICAL OF ALL OF TUSCANY. Again…hotel is clean friendly and nice. But it’s not a winery experience and you need a car!

- Eric (8/5): - We had a great stay in this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They own a winery down the street and sent us there for a complimentary tasting. The winery is run by the family and they were very fun and informative. The hotel breakfast was very nice. Their baked goods were fresh and delicious. They could refresh their eggs, as I did receive a rotten one and the coffee always tasted burnt which may just need a cleaning on the coffee maker. The rooms were small but decorated nicely and very clean. The location was a short drive to San Gimignano, which had nice restaurants and shopping. I do believe they were under construction because I had workers on the roof outside of the bedroom window. Could use some better drapes for the privacy. Overall it was a very nice stay.
- MichaelB19363 (2/5): Dreaming of our stay, Living a nightmare - Many months ago I booked our stay at the Hotel Torciano for three nights in the northern portion of our trip to Tuscany. It seemed perfect. We’re not interested in city stays, so we planned on saying outside the cities. The reviews were strong, with only one negative experience noted due to some water problem. As we were getting in our car for San Gimignano I received a call from the hotel where I was informed that they had a water problem and had to move us (two couples) to another hotel. Of course they needed my permission to charge the remainder of our bill, so as to pay the other hotel. I’m not sure how that need for early payment became my problem. She sent an address and said a driver would meet us in front our hotel to take us to our wine tasting that evening. This hotel is in the center of San Gimignano, which I accept might be nice for some, but not us. We are awakened by dogs barking in other guest’s rooms. There is cigarette smoke wafting up the stairs and down the hall. We now have daily parking fees for a parking lot outside of town. As we waited for a driver, as instructed, he was quite late. It turns out he is not able to drive in the town so we had to find the right portal to meet him. Awakened by dogs I decided to look up how much this hotel would have cost. Our price for Hotel Torciano was $213 per room per night. This hotel room costs $131 per night! We asked the staff at the Torciano wine tasting and they indicated that the hotel was completely full. They were not aware of water issues. When pressed a bit we were met with blank stares. Why not offer us a choice of agriturismo hotels outside of town, if indeed there is a water problem? Why do they need full payment when our “new” hotel is significantly less than what we paid? Then the dogs, smokers and parking. If you are tempted to stay here, I recommend you think about how you will actually ensure that you do indeed stay there, and how you might control what were to happen to your trip if, say there was something like a water problem at the last minute. Yes, at this point I’m cynical. Sorry for that. PS - I do need to add that while I have read mixed reviews on the Torciano wine tasting, ours was quite nice. We enjoyed the wines and were hosted by a wonderful, knowledgeable and fun hostess. Our time with her is worth a star, even if it is only associated with the hotel.

We are loving all the changes and cannot wait to come back to see them completed! The hotel is near the winery and Elio and the staff are fabulous! Breakfast every morning and cappuccinos🥰 included! Stocked wine fridge in case you want to sit outside and enjoy the sunset on the terrace 🍾
- trenta667 (10/5): Tuscany as you'd always imagined - What an amazing stay! Frim the minute Elio greeted us we knew we were in for a treat. The location was beautiful, and the hotel has 12 rooms, so it's very quiet and relaxed. The included breakfast is amazing, and Elio makes one mean Cappuccino! I always asked him to make me a second, they were that good! He also worked to help setup transportation to and from the winery and San Gimignano, both of which I highly recommend.

Breakfast was included, but I hope they will provide more protien selection for Breakfast. Cappuccino was excellent. The host was very nice and so accommodating, he suggested us couple of places to visit duri g our stay which turned out to be perfect, not much tourists in the area that we visited.
- Gary (10/5): Lovely family and great vinyard down the road - Fantastic hospitality and service. We booked a one night stay (very late as we were at the superb vineyard down the road and arrived after just 2 hours later) but this was no trouble. We were greeted first by the owner's lovely daughter and then the owner who made us feel welcome immediately. The room was basic but very clean and pretty. A nice touch to be able to buy beer, wine, snacks etc. out of hours from the large 'minibar' fridge in the hall ir local chianti in the room. The breakfast was very nice....the home made sponge cake was a highlight! I could eat that every day. Hope to go back one day. Thanks!

- mark (8/5): a short drive from st giminiano - proprietor charming, breakfast generous, room pleasant. two problems: dsl internet extremely unreliable due to carrier problems, and air con is on a timer so may not be available when you want it. it's off during bizarre hours 1am to 7am, maybe noon to 4pm? hotel is directly on road to st gim so passing traffic can be loud. overall, we liked it.

- Nicholas (10/5): - Highly recommended! Could not ask for better service. The accommodation is perfect... clean, comfortable and friendly. The building goes back to the 11th century although renovated to a hotel it has kept much of the original structure (amazing). Elio and Alexandria are absolutely the best hosts, you cannot help but be sad to leave. When our rental car company failed to deliver our car Elio came to pick us up at the train station and arranged for a car rental in San Gimignano for us and drove us there the next day to get the car. (Saved our stay in San Gimignano) Breakfast is homemade and could not be better. Elio made us dinner the night we arrived and it was delicious. A great big thank you to Elio, we are so glad to have met you.

- LP (10/5): - Charming bnb in pretty location. Elio, the owner and host, is always so kind and gracious. Lovely, generous breakfast including some of their homemade breakfast cakes and slice of homemade pizza! Room, and it’s en-suite, good size. Practical location close by for San Gimignano, and Volterra scenic half hr away and worth it. Very glad we stayed here!
- Deborah (10/5): A Tuscan Gem - Don’t let the somewhat beaten-up outside of the building put you off from booking this place. Its history is part of the charm. The inside common areas were quaint; my bedroom and private bathroom were spotless; the included breakfast was much better than average for Italy; the views of the vineyard and rolling hills were worthy of a FaceBook post; and the host was charming and very helpful. The only drawbacks, which for me were quite minor, were that the heat seemed to be on a timer and the refrigerator in the lobby with soda, water, and wine for purchase were lukewarm. If you drink red, that shouldn’t be a problem! San Gimignano is a 15-minute car ride away as well. I highly recommend the Hotel Vecchio Asilo for a genuine Tuscan experience.
- Xacobe (10/5): Como en casa - Desde que llegas a este pequeño hotel de la Toscana Elio te hace sentir como en casa, el desayuno casero está buenísimo con su brusccheta o pizza, su fruta cortada, dulces caseros... Una delicia. Aunque no es un restaurante, te pueden preparar de cena pizza, pasta.. ideal para recuperarse tras un largo día de caminatas por la zona. Situado en un precioso entorno de la Toscana, situado en un punto estratégico para visitar todos los pueblos de la zona Lo recomiendo con los ojos cerrados.

- Marcos Aurelio (10/5): Excelente hotel próximo a San Gimignano. - Ao chegar ao hotel, vi uma placa na porta de entrada, indicando classificação do hotel de uma estrela. Achei estranho, pois as fotos do site, davam a entender que era um hotel com melhor classificação. Fui recebido pelo proprietário, Sr. Hélio, que autorizou o check-in mesmo chegando com 3 horas de antecedência. O hotel possui estacionamento e como eu estava de carro, foi fator determinante para minha estadia próxima a San Gimignano. Ao entrar no quarto, uma boa surpresa. Banheiro com banheira, quarto espaçoso e muito bem docorado. Chuveiro ótimo, amenidades de banheiro de boa qualidade. Colchão, travesseiros e roupa de cama limpos e de boa qualidade. Qualidade de sono muito boa. Silêncio absoluto. Ar condicionado perfeito. No dia seguinte, café da manhã farto, servido pelo próprio Hélio. Bolos e biscoitos feitos em casa. Pão, geléia, suco, café, capuccino, manteiga, queijo, presunto, yogurte. Pizza que tinha acabado de ser feita. Tudo muito bom. O hotel possui uma área externa com mesas e cadeiras que foram colocadas extrategicamente, tendo ao fundo, uma paisagem com parreiras de uvas. Excelente local para tomar um vinho. Sinceramente, o hotel deveria ser qualificado com três estrelas e não com apenas uma, como indicado na porta de entrada. Faltou apenas informar sobre a educação e presteza dos proprietários. Es una casa antigua, no muy grande, pero la habitación muy amplia y cómoda. Está decorada de una manera muy especial que desde que llegas sientes la bienvenida! - Peter (10/5): Countryside inn, wonderful hospitality - Hotel Vecchio Asilo is perched on a hill a short drive from San Gimignano and is, our host Elio told us, about a thousand years old. Our bedroom looked out over the vineyards of Tuscany -- ah! Elio is the soul of hospitality. He served fresh baked pastries and focaccia every morning and made us dinner one night for a reasonable fee that included homemade pasta and tomatoes fresh from the garden. Elio trained in hospitality and was ever ready to offer suggestions for our travels. Highly recommended!
- Tony (10/5): Beautiful hotel, very convenient location. - Our stay at Vecchio Asilo was spectacular. The hotel is clean and charming. Our host was most gracious and friendly. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and can still taste the delicious breakfast we ate each morning. This was an experience we will never forget and we cannot stress enough that host Elio is one of the most kindest person we have ever met. Una vacanza indimenticabile!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful location with superb service - We had the good fortune to select this hotel at Ulignano for our exploration of San Germigiano, Poggibonsi, Monteriggioni and Siena. The owners welcomed us warmly, in a way typical of Tuscan hospitality and we were made to feel genuinely welcome there not just because we were guests at the hotel. Our room was beautiful and offered breathtaking views of the fantastic countryside from its windows. The breakfasts were home made and delicious and the locally produced olive oil was used to good effect. We were also provided with comprehensive information about the surrounding area and places of interest which are not widely known about. All in all a perfect place to stay for an exploration of this area. We will definitely return.

Accoglienza molto simpatica da parte del proprietario/gestore: competente, correttissimo, gentile anche per darci notizie su posti da visitare e ristoranti in zona. OTTIMA colazione: abbondante, con Pecorino fresco e ottimi affettati, pizzetta, torte e dolcetti preparati dalla moglie, ottimo pane del vicino fornaio.

- Anette (10/5): Toscanas hjärta. - Ett familjärt hotell som bjöd på en rikt tilltagen frukost, med vackert upplagt fruktfat, hembakade kakor, bröd mm. En bra utgångspunkt för att utforska Toscana. Vi fick bra tips på utflykter. Vi kan varmt rekommendera detta hotell. Mycket sympatisk familj som drev hotellet.
- Julia (10/5): Hotel für eine Hochzeitsreise - Das Hotel ist umgeben von Weingärten, steht auf einem Hügel und ist mit sehr viel Liebe fürs Detail gebaut und geschmückt. Das Hotel wird von einem Paar geführt. Wir lernten nur den Hausherren kennen, der Italienisch, Englisch und auch etwas Deutsch spricht. Das Zimmer war sehr schön, aber der Frühstücksraum bzw. das viel selbstgemachte/-gebackene Frühstück mit regionalen Produkten war einfach nur ein Traum! Ich werde das Hotel für die Hochzeitsreise einer Freundin weiterempfehlen!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Outstanding hospitality - Outstanding hospitality! It is a one star hotel so don't expect extravagance but you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. The breakfast is also way beyond of what you would expect for a one star hotel. I can highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again.
- Carolyn (8/5): Tuscany Escape - What great service from our host. Breakfasts were amazing. Just to note that the establishment is about 8KMs from San Gimignano which is not a problem if you have a vehicle. Our visit was in June and unusually hot for them for this time of the year. There is no swimming pool or airconditioning so at times we felt that after a day of sightseeing it would've been nice to come home to something cool!
