Guest Reviews
- James (6/5): Seen better days. - Friendly and polite service let down by a very old, tired and dated building. Convenient location for grabbing a taxi around the city and there are some good restaurants nearby (Marie Min for yummy vegtarian food and Rainforest for Thai and for doing laundry!). I wouldn’t return until the rooms are upgraded and all bathrooms are equipped with separate showers - having a shower over the toilet in an old wet style bathroom is not pleasant and does not match the photos. Breakfast is bland.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Personnel parfait
Excellent accueil
Assez propre
Mais helas vue sur mur
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the location and the staff. Breakfast was good. The bathrooms could use an update but that is reflected in the cost. I would stay here if I returned.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- yong (8/5): Great stay! - Good location. Friendly staff- very approachable. No much variety for breakfast but the soup and sticky rice are the best!!
It was quite noisy for the room (405) by the main road. We didn't sleep well because of this. When we changed to the other side (402), it was much quieter.
No lift is available. So need to climb up.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Everything you need from a hotel - The hotel was conveniently located close to sites and restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great.
- Eric Marcus (10/5): Close to the Royal Palace - Excellent service, friendly staff and a very good breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Tiny, shabby rooms - Cons: Maybe because the hotel is quite old, the rooms look very shabby and worn inside. The room I had was also extremely tiny with merely a size of a king bed but no any other furniture. A lot of mosquitoes and spider nets in the room. Electricity got cut out frequently. The door is not sound proof.
Pros: Good location. Very good breakfast. Helpful staff.
- Wayne (8/5): Quaint but comfortable - Older building needing some work but quaint and comfortable. Well located. And the staff deserve an extra half star. Other reviewers berated the breakfast but it was OK, and how much can you expect on this budget?
- Richard (8/5): Good. Would choose better location next time. - Nice facility and staff. The rooms feel old, could use some general sprucing up. Location was OK but not great. Difficult to walk anywhere, and all the good places to see were a taxi or motorized rickshaw drive away.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value - Our stay at Hotel Emperor in Mandalay was very nice. Room was as seen on the photos although the view was just wall of the next building. Breakfast was quite nice - including eggs, noodles, sausages, fruit and toast. Hotel staff helped us with arranging transportation to Bagan. Mandalay is not super exciting city so there is not much around the hotel, but we managed to find good restaurants and beauty salon. Overall, great value for money (we also stayed in another hotel in a similar price range in Mandalay and Emperor was by far better).
- Derrek (6/5): Nice budget hotel - Very friendly staff and good location. Small room and bathroom with no outside view. Good place to stay a night or two for the price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value! - Loved the wooden interior and the neighbourhood- close to the moat, restaurant and other activities but still in a relatively quiet spot. The staff were so helpful. l highly recommend this place.
- Daniel Dino (10/5): Good hotel overall - A good hotel overall. Everything was excellent.
- Edward (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and was always available to make our stay more enjoyable.
- Matthew (8/5): Friendly and Basic - Small, friendly hotel. Staff was extremely helpful. Room was basic but comfortable. Good wifi. No bathtub, shower sprays directly on bathroom floor (which isn't unusual for smaller hotels in Asia). Many restaurants nearby but you still have to take a taxi to most of the main sights since it's about a 45-minute to an hour walk to the northeast corner of the palace walls.
- Suzanne (8/5): - Really loved staying here. Great staff, so helpful and attentive. Close to two very good restaurants. Central location. Hotel was very helpful in booking us transportation for custom tours, boat tickets, etc. Good breakfast. Only reason gave slightly lower review for property quality is there was a hole in our bathroom floor and floor gets really wet during a shower.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- alan (8/5): Burma adventure - The hotel was ok, room had no space, but staff were helpful and breakfast was good. 20 Min walk to busier area for food. No complaints.
- Kiara (8/5): Polite, courteous staff and close to restaurants - Staff were incredibly polite and courteous, room was a bit small but clean and well-equipped. Hot, powerful shower and strong wifi. Close to Mandalay fortress and numerous restaurants, cafes and shops.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nettes kleines Stadthotel an guter Ausgangslage.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - large room, quiet and cleen. very helpful staff. good brakfast. good location
- Regina (4/5): OK hotel. - The first person we met at front desk spoke little English and he wasn't very helpful. we had booked a king size bed and when we got to the room there was no king size bed but instead 2 twin size beds. I complainedand asked for the room we had booked and I they didn't have any room so they just pull the beds together which is fine but they didn't change sheets to fit a king size bed they left on the twin bed sheets. I was too tired to complain.... bathroom was OK. Location OK. wouldn't stay here again.
- Gusteau (10/5): Highly Recommended - Very helpful staff who goes out of their way to make your stay trouble free. My 110 -220 transformer burnt out and the entire staff helped me navigate Madalay to find one to buy.
Highly recommended
- Verified traveler (6/5): not comparable to other 50$ hotels in Myanmar - $50 typically reserves a very nice room in this country. This hotel should have been 15-20$ due to its cleanliness and upkeep. We were surprised when we arrived but we were very late getting in and just needed to sleep. We would have changed hotels if we showed up during the day.
- Sandy (10/5): Crisp Clean Sheets, Great Management & staff - Form the time arriving at Hotel Emperor in Mandalay, i have been in for a Surprise. This has been by far one of my best stays on my two months around Asia. The Professional & personable staff have made the difference , how ever the location & fresh clean sheets , good breakfast , cleanliness all has helped.
My experience is of Staff going out of the way to take me on motor bike rides to improve the quality of my travels. Bank & phone companies etc. They have treated me with extreme empathy & kindness.
- Christian (8/5): Nice value for money and fine service - When visiting Mandalay (for business) I normally stay in this friendly little hotel located just next to the Royal Palace.
- karen (8/5): Near palace, nice people - Staff were warm and welcoming. Spoke English. Helped with transportation, phone calls. Halls are original wood, smell nice.
Updated plumbing, AC.
Problem with phone in my room- fixed it asap.
- Maria (8/5): perfect HQ for exploring mandalay! Great value - Stayed 3 nights at this family run guest house. Great value for money! Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. They arranged a private driver to take us around The whole of mandalay for sights and sounds, local traditions and made the most out of our stay. The hotel itself has a John Woo 80's action feel to it but rooms are clean and service good. Not a busy area at Night but nobody goes to mandalay for the nightlife anyway. a couple of blocks away there are some really cosy restaurants with a burmeese mini khao san road feel. Going sightseeing independantly in mandalay demands some sort of car transportation or a bike so the location is not so important anyway. The manager arranged our boat trip tickets to bagan in addition to also knowing what and when to see the different sights before and after sunset. Breakfast is basic burmeese and some western style but clean and tasty. We will be back
- damien (10/5): best staff hotel in Myanmar - What a surprise !
Best staff ever in Myanamar.
It was really plesant to stay there. The staff was super kind and pro !
The food was really good and unexpensive.
the hotel is decorated with wood, really pretty!
only bad point : the shower! is very small and smell super bad !
They speack english very well.
execpt that the hotel worth 5 stars !
thank you so much fo all!
- Laura (8/5): A swell place - One night only on my way elsewhere.
- Barbara (6/5): Wonderful Staff Alone Woud Make Me Come Back - Well located on the south side of the Palace grounds, with a great little restaurant next door (Bistro Cafe). It was evident they've gone out of their way to provide a pleasant experience. I had a really comfortable king size bed with upscale linens, nice flat screen TV with a variety of English channels, excellent wifi, more hot water than anyone could want. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was that the bed was so big that it left little space in the room to walk around, much less open a suitcase. I would have been happier with more space and less bed. But that's my only negative, because everything else was great and I'll definitely stay here again.
- Kristen (10/5): Good value for your money - I picked this hotel because it was close to the train station and it actually turned out to be a good choice all around. The front desk staff were very helpful. Nothing was too much of a concern. I was on the 4th floor and there aren't elevators but there is always someone willing to give you a hand with luggage, so don't let that deter you. Next door is a good little restaurant, Bistro. I can recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Holiday in Mandalay - The first night we encountered 2 blackouts!! But there's torchlight on standby in the hotel so we had expected such to happen... do bring the torchlight into the bathroom and switch it on throughout as you wouldn't want to be caught in an emergency blackout in pitch darkness!
- Perry (10/5): good location for a lovely hotel - Only stayed one night but would happily stay here again as my Deluxe double room was great, again as ever in Myanmar the staff were great as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very well located in a central area and perfect for moving around Mandalay. ATM machine is just out of the door. Good service and caring hotel staff. Breakfast is terrible tough.
Anyway there are two restaurants on the 27th street closeby offering all good food at any time of the day.
- traveller (8/5): Small friendly hotel in quiet street - I enjoyed my stay here. The standard rooms are quiet small but I had plenty of room in one of the rooms at the front. Lovely wood paneling throughout. Very friendly staff.
- DJY (6/5): Reasonable - Welcome was very friendly, and the room was fine. Bathroom very nice by Burma standards. Not much on offer in the breakfast. Wifi didn't work at all on my floor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not bad for the price - - Good location close to the palace and not too far from other attractions
- Quiet neighborhood but near enough to convenience stores, etc.
- Generally good condition--some issues with my room, but staff were only too happy to address them
- John (6/5): Cheap and cheerful stay - Cheap and cheerful stay
