- thomaskU9469WL (10/5): overnight stay with free room upgrade - We were traveling through the area and stopped for the evening. The person at the front desk was very friendly and accomodating. I was also given a free room upgrade. The room was very clean. We asked for suggestions on places to eat or drink and one of the suggestions was a place only a block away that we walked to which was good after driving for 11 hours. The morning continental breakfast was very good too

- Julie (5/5): I have had better stays in an AmericInn - Looks newly renovated Bedding not for winter. Light feather no blanket and no additional blankets in the room. Just a light feather made for summer and a sheet. I was freezing, had to turn up heat which dried out my sinus. Tv had no instructions and 2 remotes with no idea of what they were for. Had to bring up desk person and she even had troubles. Got a phone call on hotel phone at 2:15am where a man asked me to please hold for a minute and stared heaving breathing into phone. How did that call go through to my room?

The breakfast was ok, but there was just one person handling the front desk and the breakfast area, and she didn't know how to handle the coffee machine, so no coffee. Also, I didn't see any sign identifying the building, plus there wasn't any parking lot lighting.

Homemade tamales? Tortillas? Who does this? Yes, there was a waffle maker (immaculate) etc all the things that you’d expect but also delicious homemade food.

She was so friendly and helpful. The manager or owner, was a rude man when he came to help when we needed some extra support. The breakfast was a good. They had a very comfortable lobby with many chairs. The pool was big and clean looking. The manager or owner, was a rude man when he came to help when we needed some extra support. I had reserved a room with special accommodations for my in-laws that were staying with us in the same room for the weekend. We did not get the special accommodations. When we checked-in on Friday night, the system said no one was in the room we were going to. The would not work. So I went to get the front desk girl. She tried the master key and it did not work. The manager came and did the main key. The person then came to the door. The manager was rude to them and to us. We got put into another room. We had troubles with those keys as well. The next night we had trouble with the keys again, but again, the front desk girl was very kind and helpful. When we checked out, the manager was rude to us again. We will NOT be staying at this hotel again.

- 903ctr (10/5): A high Bar to meet. - The AmericInn of Ottumwa, IA was our destination on this trip. We were greeted warmly by the owner and given a nice room. We have been coming to this location twice a year for 3 years on family visits to see great grandkids and other family in the area. We are treated like family by the AmericInn. The great treatment has resulted in some of the family we only get a couple of hours with now want to rent rooms when we are in town. The breakfasts are good as is the swimming pool and hot tub. We lucked out finding the AmericInn and now look for them when we travel. The Ottumwa AmericInn definitely has set the bar high. We have yet to find an AmericInn elsewhere quite as good although we definitely recommend the brand.

- Ramona (2/5): Terrible customer service - Not much I rented room online and they knew there was 4 of us and we were told after we arrived that that room was not for 4 people so we had to rent another room (2 rooms it cost $400.00 so not worth it that was way to much money for that place)and my handicapped son had to be across the hall in another room so i had to get up at night waking everyone up. staff was rude and jumped my other child over orange juice which was completely ridiculous,staff kids screaming and disturbing guests while trying have breakfast the staff were more worried about feeding themselves and putting food in waffle maker and toaster and leaving it so we had to wait by then our food was cold we paid alot of money to stay and were treated poorly could not understand there english and they would talk in there language so people didnt know what they were saying thats very rude customer service didn't seem to matter,tv not working,food was terrible and wheelchair accessible but doorways were not good I almost dumped him out of wheelchair and sidewalk was hard to get wheelchair over, beds not changed and trash in son's room running over they were asked to empty it but did not.I will not stay there ever again.I tried to be understanding about room situation but with everything else I was quite upset and disappointed this was my handicapped mini vacation and hotel sucked would not recommend it,I definitely will not go back there,it was a joke!🙁☹️
- Deb (6/5): - We stayed one night at this hotel and although our room was clean and beds where comfy, the desk light was flashing and didn’t work, the mini fridge was full of ice and the door wouldn’t close properly, the outlets where loose and the TV didn’t have any weather or news, just a few Radom channels. In the evening my husband went down to grab me a coffee and it was cold, don’t know how long it had been sitting. The toilet seat was very loose. Water pressure was good. At breakfast, napkins were missing and when I made a waffle the blueberry topping jar was empty. Overall I would not stay here again.

It was a non-smoking room. The staff were very kind and moved us to another room. Unfortunately, the a/c in this room ended up not working well, but we were too tired to ask for another change. Plus, we didn't notice it for a couple hours - it seemed to be working at first.

- Chrystal (8/5): Amazing would go back!! - The owner (I think that’s who he was) was very nice, and friendly. He found out it was our wedding anniversary and up graded us! It was very nice and he didn’t have to do that! We had a problem with our remote working in our room and he took care of it with no problems! The room was very warm. But it was 90 degrees outside so it was alittle expected !

Room was nice and the facilities were a little run down(in a few spots), but you can see the owner are making it look better. I would definitely stay here again. Even though it is in the old part of town, I felt very safe. Breakfast was on par for the price. I did find what I needed to eat and was happy with that. As I was pulling a trailer, the directions my phone gave me made it difficult to get to the hotel, but in a car it is easy. Overall nothing really bad to say.

I think the common areas could use some slight updates. Nothing that turned me away to complain or be grossed out though. Things like fresh paint in the hallway need to be done. Toilet in our room ran for awhile. Pool area is cozy but the flooring has little rock pieces getting loose and they stick to your feet. Still a great stay!

I used swimming pool and hot tub. Good location, not far from Bridge View Center.

- Jenn (4/5): - We had a weird stay here. The guy at the front desk seemed friendly enough at check in and we headed down to our room (room #1). We found that the wall mounted hair dryer was missing so I went back to the desk to see about getting one. The man said he forgot that the room was missing a hair dryer and decided to give us a different room down the hall. No problem, we grabbed our stuff and went to the new room (room #2). As soon as we opened the door, a woman screamed, as this room was already occupied! 😱 Back to the front desk and the man was flustured and "not sure why the rooms were messed up in his computer". He asked if we would be ok in a single room instead so we offered to go somewhere else for the night if he didn't have space. This made him only more flustered and insisted that we stay. He "upgraded us to a suite" (room #3). This room was slightly larger but maybe the only thing that made it a "suite" was the weird old recliner in the corner. Besides that adventure, the photos on here do not represent the current conditions of this hotel. The beds seemed clean enough but the rooms are run down and in need of repairs. If in weren't for the already occupied room, I probably would not have complained too much for the price.

- Adib (2/5): - When I checked in they gave me a room key and sent me to a room that was already occupied. I walked in on someone else. After that traumatic experience I went all the way back downstairs with all of my bags. Then without apology they sent me to another room. That room reeked of cigarette smoke even though it’s supposed to be non smoking. So back downstairs I have to go, carrying all my bags again. Then again without apology they sent me to a room where half the things were broken and it only smelled mildly of smoke (they had left the window open to reduce the smell). It was 10pm and I had no where else to go so I stayed in that third room I immediately requested to cancel the 2nd nights stay, but they said I had to talk to hotels.com. I spent an hour talking to hotels.com who insisted that there’s nothing they could do and that the hotel itself needs to approve the cancellation. The hotel owner continued to insist that they couldn’t cancel and only hotels.com could cancel it. I spent an hour trying to figure it out that night until past 11pm. Then I had to spend another hour the next morning (waking up at 6am). This is all while I’m supposed to be getting ready for a business conference and have other work to do. There’s more to this horrible story but the end result is that i had to pay for two nights even though i only stayed one. Turns out hotel manager was lying the whole time and could have easily refunded it. Just greed. Person at front desk was named Pinal

- Marvin (8/5): - Stayed with the family for a weekend. It’s clean enough, friendly staff, kids liked the pool, decent breakfast. You get exactly what you pay for and I appreciate that.
- Todd (4/5): - Key fob repeatedly did not work. Waited 5+ minutes every time we tried to go into our room. Very annoying. Will not be back

I am not a complainer Pick another Hotel - We have been going to this hotel for over 20 years use to be a great place to stay not any more this place is going down hill in service and building maintenance. The room was dirty beds looked like they just threw the sheets over the bed. Was not a clean feeling. Breakfast was no good Do not stay at this place

- Alicia (8/5): - As adults, we would have loved to enjoy the hot tub, but it was full of kids! Also, we were not able to use our room toilet as it was clogged, and nobody came to our room, after making a request at the front desk.
- Jason (6/5): - Hotel is gradually aging and going downhill, but no more so than all of the other hotels in Ottumwa.
- Tim (10/5): All members of our family in the rooms we stayed in had a relaxing stay. - Very clean very nice updated rooms - we had four rooms and they all were nice. The staff was very cordial to us and with any issues The morning breakfast on the second day had run out but it really didn’t bother us as we were staying there for comfort and quietness and not for the breakfast- that just an added perk!

- 765lilas (8/5): Continues to be a nice place to stay! - I have stayed here many times before and it continues to be a nice place to stay. The staff are nice and helpful. When TV 📺 didn't work, they fixed the signal promptly. The pool and hot tub stay open until midnight, which is terrific! Room was clean and comfortable, bed was great, fridge and microwave are provided. Breakfast has some nice variety, including waffles. Very walkable neighborhood too!
