Guest Reviews
- Anton (9/5): Nice overnight stay at Malgas. - The location was very good against the bank of the Breede river and the food was excellent! none
- Sven (8/5): relaxing stay - quiet location with ferry view
very helpful staff
good food we could hear our neighbours TV but we are not sure if the TV was too loud or the room a bit too noisy
- Theresa (5/5): Need a bit of love and a decent Chef! - Lovely location. Nice room with a river view. We went for the all-inclusive with dinner and breakfast. Im afraid the dinner was absolutely awful, one of the worst meals I've ever paid for. From start to finish, there are no redemending features, definitely not a chef in charge of the kitchen. I would suggest forgoing the meal and eating elsewhere. Breakfast was better. On the up side, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. That said, you need a degree to turn the lights on, and the bedside light were only there for decoration as they didn't work. It's clear the whole place needs a face-lift. With a bit of tlc, it could be an exceptional hotel.

- Ceri (10/5): - Lovely old fashioned style hotel. We enjoyed the cruise on the Breede River.
Will be back to hire a Boathouse for few days. The pont / ferr not working but will be up and running next week.
- Paul (8/5): - Good friendly service and good meals Nothing
- Karin (10/5): -
- Kwisatz Haderach (9/5): - Schönes traditionelles Hotel am Brede River. Sehr ruhig gelegen, man Kann herrlich entspannen.

- Megan (10/5): - Friendly staff, beautiful location N/A
- ilse (8/5): Good country hotel! - Lovely country hotel next to the Breede River. The breakfast and dinner were very good. The staff were helpful and friendly.

- Lynn (6/5): A gem waiting to shine - This little place has so much potential. Beautiful location and gardens. Crossing the Breede River on the pont is a highlight. Our first room was dark and outdated. The bathroom had an open shower which is not a good idea. The manager kindly moved us on oir second nigbt to a family room which was much bigger and had a proper shower and view.
- Lazelle (10/5): -
- Ingrid (7/5): - Eigenaar is erg vriendelijk. En kamers voor gezin perfect, veel ruimte. Badkamer schoon en balkon. Gezellig toen we aankwamen.
Gemakkelijk parkeren.

- louw (7/5): - The hotel is old but clean, and the food was excellent. The staff friendly and always willling to take the next step.
- Gurwantrai (5/5): Not worth the trip - Food was really not worth it - very dissatisfied Better quality
- Michelle (2/5): - Not much. The property was run down and sad. Worst of all is the management who wouldn’t compromise by refunding at least the food(which wasn’t up to scratch) money on the day we didn’t remain. And then trying to gaslight us in making it our problem that we didn’t call emergency numbers in the wee hours of the morning for leaking toilet, after it had been repaired…) and insinuating that we lied about the noise outside, and then blaming it on the neighbours! We checked out a day early due up a list of issues: staff asking for tips, broken and then leaky toilet all night, banging directly outside our door, very weak internet…no other guests was a sure sign…
- Andre (10/5): I really enjoyed the stay and the staff were great. Very helpful and willing to assist - Location and staff Not much
- ROWLEY (10/5): - Staff very friendly & helpful Nothing
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): -
- Joachim (6/5): Einfache Unterkunft in the Middle of No where - Halbpension mit hervorragendem fünf Gänge Menü abends Der Anfahrtsweg, 35 km OFF ROAD
- Linda (8/5): As above, particularly Kyle - Proximity to De Hoop and the staff were great, particularly Kyle who goes above and beyond
- Louwri (8/5): Best location with wonderful views and staff. - Awesome Dinner buffet. Friendly staff assisted with getting sport on TV. Prompt service with drinks etc. Wonderful setting. Great overall experience. Rooms might need an upgrade in the next few years, but still great for now.
- Dave (7/5): Quaint location and old world style. Didn’t meet our expectation. - The setting of the hotel overlooking the Breede river and the occasional view of the “pont” transporting vehicles across the river We paid for accommodation which included dinner and breakfast. The dinner offering was billed as a 5 course meal.
We found that there wasn’t much that we would enjoy in the offering and then got permission to order steaks from the bar menu which suited our tastes. It would be better to wave the meal offering when booking which costs just under R1000.00 for 2 people and order dinner and breakfast separately as we saw certain people doing. Breakfast served only one filter coffee and we were told that another cup would be an extra cost A similar thing happened when my wife had one scrambled egg and two slices of bacon and asked if she could have a little grated cheese to go with her meal. She was told that she would have to pay for it as it was an extra.
Our unit number 10 had an outside patio with a table and two sun damaged chairs. I weigh 85kg and the chair fabric unfortunately split on the one chair when I sat down.
- Eugene (8/5): - Although not old, they went with an old English style of hotel. Rooms are comfortable and neat. Dinner was enormous, you are warned, but absolutely delicious. Staff friendly, manager very attentive. It is very quiet and off the beaten track, not everyone's cup of tea.
- Prashant (6/5): Unique experience. Ideal for backpacking experiences - Superb staff, personalized attention. Cozy lodge feeling. Difficult approach via a mud road for the last 25 kms and a river crossing in the end which is time specific.
- Swart (6/5): Peaceful. - The staff was friendly and helpful The whole place needs a more modern upgrade.
- Derek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zalin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brockett (7/5): An experience, particularly the Pont! - Dinner & breakfast were good. Wet room type shower not good. Needs a door/screen!
- Jeremy (7/5): Good -
- Barkhuysen (5/5): pleasant, clean and friendly - dinner and breakfast electricity connections were a problem
- Fisher (6/5): Was oh k the 5 course meal was tasteless. - Average Food was terrible
- Rob (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alfredo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pieter (6/5): Pleasant stay albeit it short. We are most disappointed about the non availability of the Ferry. - The Malagas Hotel is a quant Country Hotel in a lovely setting on the Breede River. The Management and staff were very welcoming and made us feel at home. Our room was very comfortable and in a quiet setting. We booked for two nights and the Malagas Hotel. They called us on Saturday to advise us that the ferry was out of service. The main reason that we booked at Malagas was to use the ferry to go to Witsand. We tried to cancel, however, the hotel did not accept it. They did say that Bookings.com will not accept it either. They assured us that the gravel road was in good condition. Therefore we decided to give it a try. However, after the first attempt we realized that we would have to travel this road 4 times, a diversion of +/- 150km to get to Witsand and back to the hotel. The Hotel Manager said Bookings.com will not take that into account and we had to pay in full, although we only stayed for one night. The manager mentioned that it is Bookings.com that handled the original booking and we need to resolve the matter of the non-refund of the cost we had to incur with you. We are regular users of Bookings.com and would appreciate if you would consider to accommodate us in some way.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - All the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were excellent and very well presented.
Great boat trip up river. Nothing at all but just a shame that the ferry was not working whilst we were there which obviously isn't the hotel's fault.
- Carol (8/5): Very good -
- Danielle (8/5): Great peaceful getaway - All the meals were superb. Food was excellent and the peace. A bit pricey for the offering, however, it was December. There could be a bit more vibe in he bar.
- Sean (7/5): Good -
- Charl (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (5/5): Unless you have a boat there is not much to do - The proximity to the water and the beach in front of the hotel Everything is needing an update. In fairness to to staff I guess they were all tired after a long Christmas holiday season….
- Craig (7/5): Good -
- J.p. (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (8/5): Very pleasant and convenient. The staff are exceptional and Kyle was just so helpful attending to our every need. We just loved it. Our daughter and husband and kids were staying near by so we only had dinner on Xmas night which was a carvery which we really enjoyed.

Staff very friendly. breakfast could have muffins croissants or scones instead of government brown or white bread. Filter coffee should be available for dinners and not only for breakfast. We should be told that it is actually 47 km on a very rough dirt road prior to booking.
- Hanekom (8/5): Very good -
- Meryl (8/5): Countryside hotel along the banks of the Breede River. - A lovely countryside hotel along the banks of the Breede River. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Enjoyed being able to rent a padel boat to take out on the river. The hotel feels a bit dated, but if you know to expect that, then it okay. The rooms are still very neat and clean.
- Sheyaam (7/5): Malagas Hotel - heartwarming traditional hotel - Great location on the Breede River. Friendly staff and good food. No daily housekeeping.
