Guest Reviews
- Roberto (8/5): - Staff is very good customer service
- Lee-Young (10/5): - Very accommodating. A comforable bed for a overnight stay.
- Scott (2/5): - It’s a cheap and seemingly safe place to sleep. The Asian lady who runs it seems quite polite and friendly.
But the facilities are old, worn out, dirty and in places moldy.
Montreal is an expensive city and Apéro is cheap and you get what you pay for. However, when you put 6 beds in one small room, and charge $40-50/each, you’re earning $200-300/night depending on occupancy. You would expect better conditions even for a hostel. This place is an old townhouse converted into a hostel and it’s small, cramped and generally fairly substandard compared to other auberges I’ve tried.
By comparison, M Montreal in the village, for a similar price/night is a 1000x better and much more professional with way more space and amenities.
Auberge Apéro is much smaller of course. But you can still be better organized and cleaner. This place is just worn out and needs a meaningful decluttering, repair, upgrading effort.
I would not go back.
- Shokooh (2/5): - The picture shows here as living room, they related to upstairs, downstairs was so dirty, i arrived 1:30 pm and was waiting for one locker key till 6 pm
the atmosphere there wasn't nice and safe
- R (2/5): - .
- Binit (10/5): - Good for the price
- Ana (2/5): - Lugar desorganizado, estranho e sujo.
- Malouangou (8/5): - He was Good
- Benjamin (10/5): - Staff was very hospitable and service mucho beunos
- Eric (8/5): - Staff were always kind and Incredibly helpful
- eleanor (8/5): - Good, cheap, option. The staff was very nice, the hostel was as expected for such a low price but it was not at all terrible.
- Moussa (2/5): - T
- Lokela Yannick (8/5): - Staff is very friendly and accommodating
- Eileen (10/5): Fabulous stay! Basic accommodations - I enjoyed my stay. Staff were super welcoming, accommodating, and helpful. Location was extremely convenient! Delicious breakfast restaurants, coffee shops, pubs & dining in the surrounding blocks. My bed wasn't the most comfortable, and the bathrooms were a little run down, but the shower was good. Lockers were a decent size. Overall vibe... a little run down, but clean enough and felt very safe. Can't beat the value. Would definitely stay again.
- ABDOU (2/5): - Montant déclaré différents montants payé.
- Jean-Claude (10/5): - calme et relaxant
- Shannon (10/5): - The staff here are friendly and it's in a great area near Concordia
- You (8/5): - Le personnel est amical
- Muftah (4/5): - Uncomfortable and disorganized
I don’t recommend it at all
- Gurpreet (8/5): - goog
- Aaron (6/5): Affordable hostel in Montreal - The bed and the shower were good. Danny was helpful with the check in. The hostel needs some repairs, but the bedroom three was good. Dulce, the manager, is an OK person. I was surprised with the check in process, but overall everything was OK for a two night stay.
- Rajinder (2/5): - No comments
- ANUJ (10/5): - Good in what you pay
- JUAN CARLOS (6/5): - Close to metro and ammenities
- Noura (6/5): Pay attention: locker needs a 50$ deposit - It’s fit for very short stay.
Location is good
Bathrooms are clean
-Lacks basic renovation and
-Limited personnel at reception desk.
-No privacy on the bed (lacks curtains).
-No towels offered
- Charles (6/5): - Loved the bed. Disliked the conditions of the wall
- fumio (4/5): - too old building not secure.
- Sainath (2/5): - It’s worst
- Segun (10/5): - Satisfactory
- Christopher (2/5): - The property was unsafe (front door had been broken by a guest previously and hadn't been fixed), crowded and understaffed. Very few locks on the property overall, management of the property in the owner's absence was left to a friend of the owner who, although friendly, was not present when a argument came up between guests overnight.
No common areas, almost felt like living in a slum home, piles of random objects every where made the narrow corridors even narrower. Sheets and floors were clean, but bathrooms were quite minimally cleaned and claustrophobic overall.
- Moises (4/5): Que asco - Muy mal lugar.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Not for travellers
- Verified traveler (8/5): As advertised. - You have to understand that this is as minimalist as you can get. Keeping that in mind, you need to have a tolerance for being in close quarters with strangers, more so perhaps than in many youth hostels.
- faroukh (2/5): - terrible
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Sehr unordentlich und sehr eng. Wackeliges Bett. Mitarbeiter waren freundlich. Teilweise auch sehr schmutzig.
- Andre (8/5): Hostal in the center , near everything...and cheap - Centrally-located place but unfinished 10%...like running AC Duct on the Ceiling but uncovered...work-in-process..Nice staff..nice kitchen..the roof terrace is a mess..used as a dump for old tiles..stuff like that.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Go elsewhere! - Avoid this place! Dangerous wiring in the kitchen. Kitchen is also filthy; cook/eat there at your own risk. Owner appears to be milking it until it burns or crumbles.
If you're driving, this is false economy. Spent almost as much on parking as for the room.
- Nick (10/5): - Very king staff! Clean
- Shivam (10/5): - good for staying for one or few nights, best for students or travellers
- Francis (10/5): - The place was close to everything. Shopping food coffee metro (subway)
- kam fung (6/5): OK place for sleep - Advertised information not accurate that I had to pay a surprised 1/4 extra at the spot. Beware of misinformation if you do care about gender specific or the amount of beds in a dorm.
It requires $1 per day for a tower-to me that is another hidden cost. Common area and kitchen are small, and equipment and furnitures are worn out. The room I was staying did not have good air circulation. But at least the beddings was clean and comfortable.
- Mohd (8/5): Good dormitory to stay at nice location in Montrel - The location is good, the room was clean and bed was comfortable. They also have kitchen facility. It can be consider to stay if u are travelling with frnds or solo.
- Nicholas (6/5): Clean but falling apart - The place was kept clean, and the tall slim muscle guy does a really nice job. But the place looks like it's falling apart - plastics converting the ceiling for rain, buckets on the floor to catch water, tattered couches, noisy fans, broken stairs, unmanaged cables. Even the best ratings came over a decade ago. No recent certificates
- Verified traveler (6/5): - N/AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Well located and not too much noisy and affortable price
- MARIA R (6/5): - The place was quite hard to find, but otherwise the location was good. The conditions could have been better, the kitchen was very dirty for example.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location of the hostel is very convenient. Very close to metro.
- Daniel (2/5): - It's in a very good location, just off of the main street, and is pretty affordable. However, you get what you pay for and that really isn't a lot. The rooms was in poor condition, with visible water damage around pipes and the ceiling, the bed was in bad condition and the bathrooms were questionable.
It seemed as though most people in the hostel were living there long term, rather than short stays, which makes it an uncomfortable environment to be in. This may or may not be a problem depending what you're looking for, but if you're wanting a social hostel experience this is not the place.
- Andrés (6/5): Convenient place to stay - Not bad place to stay, althogh the general state of the place could be greatly improved. As positive points I would mention the good location, just one block away from a metro station, and the free breakfast. But the space is very limited in the rooms, and also in the common areas, which are not really cozy. Wifi is decent and staff is helpful.
- Hong (8/5): - it is a nice place for me because I got most every thing that I need for this trip. Shiwer water was not warm enough and the room was too warm. I sweat very much and could not have warm shower. Hope it is improved cutting heating room energy to heat shower water.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old dusty hostel - Wifi not workable in room, wifi unstable when using laptop in public area, problem left unsolved. Kitchen dirty, public area worn out, dusty and old. However the room and bathroom are ok. It's ok if you just come for a one night sleep and ignoring the rest.Location is good. Low priced is what you get. I would pay more to get a better quality hostel in downtown but this was just my first time trial of a low budget hostel.
- Rita (10/5): - Easily accessible (when coming from Bus Terminal and Berri UQAM subway station, take the Green line direction Angrignan and get off at Guy Concordia. Walk underground to the exit at McKay and just cross the street - You're there!). No age restriction. Free breakfast. Free computer access. Friendly staff. I'm a fan!!
- Wanderer (10/5): An Englishman in Quebec - Interesting. Being an Englishman in French Canada. I was fortunate that my host spoke enough English for us to get by. I would have had a better experience if I had spoken French. My fault! Breakfast was excellent. On Day one a yogurt and granola appetiser was followed by cheese infused scrambled egg served with tomato, water melon, melon and pineapple on a bed of green leaves. Wish I had taken a photo! Toast and jam followed washed down with coffee. On Day two the appetiser was served before a waffle and maple syrup washed down by coffee and fruit juice. You had exclusive use of upstairs and breakfasted downstairs. Being a hillside house you had exclusive backdoor access to this gite accommodation. Residence overlooked most of downtown Chicotimi one of two main population hubs in the Sagaunay area (the other being Jonquiere). I arrived by train to Jonquiere (a great, but slow way to arrive from Montreal) and then caught the 3 dollar bus to Chicotimi bus station for the short walk to the hotel. The area offers limited (but scenic) walking opportunities. You could cycle further with nearby rivers and lakes offering spectacular views on sunny days.
- Nayoung (10/5): Near to downtown - Really kind manager. Its very comfortable space to go somewhere
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant but not comfortable - The area is great and the access to the hostel is very easy. I got there late and no-one was there but the phone provided at the entrance allowed me to talk to someone who told me what to do, which was very appreciated!
The hostel itself is very well kept. The kitchen and bathrooms are very clean.
The beds though... don't expect to be too comfortable. They're very hard - extra extra firm, in my opinion. It wasn't easy falling asleep and my back still hurts.
I had some issues with some of the girls that were in my room (mixed room). They were talking very loudly until late at night (midnight) talking loudly and laughing loudly - we're 10 in the room, it wasn't pretty.
So the next morning i left a not for the hostel staff so they could warn them and to my surprise, signs were up by the next evening, that was amazing!
For the time that I did have to interact with the staff (twice) I felt like they could've been more courteous. I was polite and trying to make conversation and the person in charge of my check out didn't seem to care about me at all.
I would recomment this place for lowbudgets and short trips. I liked that I didn't rely on the staff to go about my day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hostel close to everything - It was great! The metro is less than 5 min away. It is in a good area and the staff is so nice! If you want to visit Montreal and you are looking for something cheaper and in a good area, is the greatest place ;)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Value - It was my first time staying in a hostel, and for the price, I hadn't expected much. But, in fact, it was as good as any hotel, just shared with other people.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good for the money - The mattress was so hard! Other than that it was great!
- Theerawat (8/5): Good hostel location in center of downtown in Mont - The plane is in the center of the downtown close to mont royal park. Just keep in mind to stay with other people in a room that may cause noise and wake you up. For short term is totally good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Alright - All the basics are there. Close to metro and shopping. Price is good. Breakfast is milk, cereals and toast and is available until noon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Like a Brothers house - I enjoyed my time here - it was home-y inside with a good crew of people. Some things i wouldve considered important to know before are:
My room was shared with both genders - i was fine with it, and we didnt even talk that much but it was just a surprise.
Sometimes there is a free food bin
My luggage didnt fit in my locker - the lockers are a good size for a backpack, not a suitcase. i bought little locks for my luggage but the culture of the place is mostly a trust that if you dont touch mine i wont touch yours.
There isnt a lot of room for groceries, but there is a little bit. There is probably room for one small bag in the communal fridge.
The people who live and care for the place are friendly if you want to make friends, and let you be if you dont want to. I appreciated the staff's hospitality.
There was a communal computer, phone and tv. And a small deck.
Service hours are tough to work with, but the staff who live in the home are around if you have questions or need something
My room was very tidy and comfortable. I was on the top bunk and my bed didnt squeak when i climbed in - 5 stars for that alone!
- Jeanene (8/5): Great 1st time hostel experience - Wonderful place to stay at a cheap rate. The place was clean and everyone was friendly. This is not a place to stay and hang out at but the location is perfect for exploring the city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great price, friendly staff, clean place! Perfect for a few night in an expensive place like Montreal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good price - nice place - An amazing price, and a nice atmosphere in the hostel. Nice staff. Very close to bars, shopping and so on. The wi-fi works pretty bad in the rooms though, but its no problem in the kitchen and living room upstairs. Could recommend it to back-packers and people interested in a good place to stay for a very good price!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hostel in downtown - Best location,in the main street with shops and resteraunt and very close to the metro station.
Very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good for the price. - It's a cozy little house. The building was very old. A narrow staircase led to the 2nd and 3rd floor, where there were multiple bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen. The bathrooms were clean. I had a locker in the bedroom. The bed sheets came inside a pillow case and I had to put them on myself. The mattresses were wrapped in thick plastic and made loud noises when someone turned in bed. Other than that, the place was surprisingly quiet at night. I also saw a coin washing machine and a shared computer, which I had not tried. Free wifi in the house.
We were supposed to take our shoes off, so bring slippers. There was soap for washing hands. Bring shampoo and towels for shower.
- DAHYE (6/5): not bad. - Good place.
But uncomfortable.
Reasonavle price
- Petersonjames (8/5): Just good - Just good
