Guest Reviews
- Ryleigh (10/5): - have no complaints about my stay at the cypress moon inn, you cannot beat this place for the price. Location is beautiful, with a balcony that gives you a nice view of the sound side. Breakfast is some fruit and muffins, restocked each day. It's a light breakfast, perfect for starting your day. There's a Walmart nearby just in case you forget or need to pick up anything. Additionally the host Greg is delightful, could talk to him for hours. He built the house himself and did a very good job. He provides free bikes you can take down to the beach, as well as kayaks to use on the lake behind the house. Only complaint (if I had to complain) would be that there is no microwave, but for how nice the place is that didn't bother me.
- Christine (10/5): Wonderful Choice - Can’t wait to return. Homey and comfortable. Our host was absolutely fabulous and was extremely interesting. He spent a lot of time answering our questions and just being helpful. It’s only a minute or two from the highway, but you’d never know it. Quiet. Feels remote. They have fishing poles, kayaks, life preservers, bicycles, and tons of books (especially local titles) games, on and on. Wonderful deck off each room to watch the water and wildlife. This place is a jewel. Recommend it highly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful property, great people - Lovely retreat on the water. Close to town but tucked away from the traffic and chaos. Lots of wildlife and very kind and attentive innkeepers.
- Bill (4/5): - We are seasoned outdoor campers (tents, outhouses) used to limited comforts in the woods. We were looking forward to a relaxed evening watching wildlife and the sunset. Those goals were met. There is limited space in the parking area making it difficult to maneuver. When arriving, there was no signage to indicate which building was the Inn and which was a private home. There was poison ivy along the parking area which we didn’t see until we were standing in it while unloading our vehicle. Linda was very friendly and personable. She took us to our room and showed us a tray on a table with 2 apples, 2 tangerines, 2 muffins in waxed paper, a small coffee maker and 2 packages of coffee. This was breakfast for the next day. The advertising stated there was a TV in each room. There was no TV. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night’s rest. In the morning, when getting the coffee ready, I pulled the glass carafe out to add water and it had old coffee in it (roughly a cup worth). There was a note on the tray that the creamer mini cups needed to be shaken thoroughly. I did this and the creamer instantly formed chunks, so we did not drink our coffee. The shower and towels were great. All in all, we found the advertising to be a bit misleading. We know this is a rustic, forested area but this verges on overgrown.
- Richard (10/5): - Nice, quiet get away with nice water views from private balcony. Owners are friendly and informative. Great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle!
- Joy (10/5): - We loved our stay at the unique and beautiful Cypress Moon Inn. The property is full of character and we especially enjoyed the owner’s appreciation of nature; there was a wonderful blending into the surroundings.
Greg and Linda were gracious and attentive hosts- gave us space but were also willing to share history and stories full of personality with us. The antique furnishings in the Inn are beautiful and the building itself is a work of high craftsmanship. We would love to stay here again!
- Nancy (10/5): - Greg & Linda are the most gracious hosts. They were so kind. The accommodations are beautiful & well kept. We would highly recommend.
- Elizabeth (4/5): - Quiet location. House was inendated with weeds. Careful walking up the enterance stairs in the rain, the mold is slippery. The owner was very nice and welcoming. But under the bed had not been cleaned in a long time. Fruit was old, and if you dont like to see roaches crawling up the walls at night you might not want to stay here. The roach hotel in the bathroom was not a good sign, as it showed up half way through our stay.
- Clint (10/5): - A lovely, quiet hide-away in a natural environment with beautiful views. Very charming!
Greg was a great host!
- Abigail (10/5): - Magical! If I had one word to describe my stay it would be magical. Upon our arrival to this hidden gem, we were greeted by Linda. She welcomed us into this gorgeous home, built by her husband Greg, tucked away in lush greenery. It's far enough away to feel comfortably private, but close enough to beaches, shopping and landmarks like the Wright Brothers Museum. The room was beautifully decorated, impeccably clean, and had a tempurpedic mattress and pillows, but my favorite part was the balcony! A relaxing swing, table and chairs, and what a view!!! I can't believe all the wildlife I was fortunate enough to see right off the balcony- cranes, does, bucks, raccoons, and so many birds. If you like to kayak, paddleboard or ride a bike, all are available here. Greg and Linda were delightful hosts, very knowledgeable about the area and they did everything possible to ensure we had the best vacation.
TLDR: Stay here!!! You will LOVE it!
- Sarah (6/5): - Needed a refresh.
- John (8/5): - It's unique, quiet and lovely.
- Sophia (10/5): - This place was a special retreat from all the commercialization of the Kitty Hawk area. It is located in and near one of the few original maritime forests on the island. You could hear all the frogs and crickets singing at night. Each room has a balcony with porch swing, overlooks the water, and has a spectacular sunset view. We would definitely stay here again!!
- William Barry (10/5): - Very rustic. Great view of the Sound.
- Cheryl (4/5): - The property is very run down and not clean. It has a nice view but obstructed by overgrowth. It might have been a nice home in its time. Many stairs to property that can be a problem for some. Would not recommend,
- Grace (10/5): - For those looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay, this is a perfect choice. The owners of the property are very kind and welcoming. Check in was very casual and easy, and I enjoyed the views of the sound. They made sure everything was tidy and clean for guests. Very good choice for those who want something different than a hotel stay.
- Doug (10/5): - This property is exactly as advertised. Not a big swanky hotel, but a beautiful, quaint house in gorgeous wooded surroundings.
Our thanks to owner, Greg, who made it feel like we were just visiting a friend.
- Mil (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff
Wonderful house but the antique furniture in the living areas was not comfortable
A little declutterring would make the feel of the areas more inviting and help keep the focus on the Sound
The site is lovely and I loved sitting out on the deck off our room and enjoying the view
I recommend it for the character of the inn and location and friendly innkeeper
- Christine (10/5): Wonderful! - What a lovely home. Staying there is like something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel. My husband and I stayed a weekend to celebrate our anniversary, and it was a wonderful experience. Do not hesitate to book this unique venue.
- Ryan (10/5): - A nice romantic stay. Only negative is you can hear the bridge traffic from the rooms.
- Matt (10/5): - Greg & Linda were the best hosts we could’ve asked for! Their home is beyond lovely and they made us feel welcomed our entire stay. The rooms are well cared for, spacious, and comfortable. There is a beautiful sunrise and sunset view from their balcony and dock and we were even able to see deer and otters. Additionally, they didn’t hesitate to share local recommendations with us which was so helpful. Thank you Greg & Linda we will definitely be returning!
- David (10/5): - Met us upon arrival and showed us around. Friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Very nice. Great rate.
- Mary (10/5): - Beautiful views off the balcony, comfortable room that was serviced daily. Easy to get to.
- Peter (10/5): - 10/5 experience thank you!
- Ashley (10/5): Great place! - Super cute and cozy. Very clean. Great location and superb host. Highly recommend.
- Chris (10/5): Great place for couples stay off the beaten path - Such a great find! The beach house we shared with family this summer wasnt quite big enough for everyone so we chose to stay a few nights elsewhere. What a great decision! The western view of the sound and sunset was beautiful and the room was perfect with a comfortable bed and antique furniture. We lucked out with the weather and were able to keep the windows open the entire time to freel the breeze and hear the birds and water. We will plan to stay a few nights here every summer during our family trip to the beach.
- Jocelyn (10/5): A hidden gem! - Beautiful spot tucked into the cypresses and pines on Albemarle Sound. Rustic in character with eccentric charm, the owners are delightful. Long time residents of the Outer Banks, Linda and Greg are generous and welcoming hosts, attentive to needs and requests for information, while remaining practically invisible to their guests! Very comfortable bed, lights and chairs and tables just where you them, lovely west-facing balcony from which to enjoy sunsets. Perfect respite!
- Jay (10/5): - The owners are really nice. Its very quite. Rooms where clean and comfortable. Great view of the bay.
- Jean-Philippe (10/5): Magical - Quite a quirky, fun, magical little place conveniently located. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely host.
- Ray (4/5): - While the inn was nice, comfortable and the inn keeper was friendly we definitely had issues with this stay. Breakfast is included but the 'breakfast' was a few pieces of fruit and a make your own coffee. Misleading to call it even a 'continental breakfast'. Older people should be aware of a long climb up two flights of stairs to the room, this is not mentioned. Not worth the money.
- Jeff (10/5): - No air conditioning, small maintenance issues. Ticks in the bed. My husband picked up 3. The location was beautiful, private. The bones of the facility was nice. The potentials amazing.
- Ralph (10/5): - Nice, quaint B & B set on the bay in Kitty Hawk. Beautiful porch outside our room to watch the sunset.
- Frank (10/5): - The view from our room was spectacular. The property is nice. The breakfast was continental, great presentation plus delicious muffins and assorted fruit.
The bed is comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.
Host gave us a great presentation/history of the area.
We recommend if you want quiet out of the way atmosphere.
- Lauren (10/5): - Very quiet, private and clean. Beautiful B&B and even though it's quiet it's still a good location for restaurants and shopping. My husband and I enjoyed our stay!
- Larissa (10/5): - Beautiful peaceful place. Nice clean and quiet. Perfect to get away and just relax.
- Harold (10/5): - There is a lot of hustle & bustle at the outer banks. Cypress Moon is a refreshing retreat from that. It's close enough to be convenient to everything but feels tranquil and remote. Wonderful views from our room balcony,
- Jon (10/5): - The view from the dock
- Hans (6/5): - The location was nice and beautiful view
The inn keeper was nice and friendly.
However lot of noise from bridge when sitting outside.
The tv was very small and old 17”
Breakfast was minimal and delivered the evening before. I
- Terry (10/5): Much better than the beach - This is a great authentic place with a georgeous view of the bay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a charming bed and breakfast.
- Dayith (10/5): Hidden Gem - Amazing quiet space, perfect little getaway.
- John (10/5): - What a wonderful stay . So peaceful and calm. Hosts were helpful and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place, beautiful view. Greg and Linda were very friendly and we
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Peaceful and relaxing place tucked away among natural surroundings and nice water view. Loved sitting on the balcony in the morning and enjoying the birds & nature. Only reason for the 4 was the small TV, didn’t bother me but husband likes his TV. Greg (owner) was friendly & informative.Overall nice place, clean and comfortable bed & I would go again. Thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great, quiet place to relax. Linda was very nice and accommodating.
- Kelli (10/5): - Very charming home and a lovely couple that own and operate the BB. Room was clean, bed was changed daily, fresh fruit, coffee and muffins for breakfast. If you are to book ask for the rooms with ocean view!!! Beautiful!!
We would book again if in the area.
- Sarah (10/5): - This feels like a home situated at the edge of a Mississippi bayou. Beautiful view out the windows, beautiful view from the dock, beautiful walk from the boardwalk between the dock and inn; also, the wildlife was fun to watch from the deck (we saw a summer tanager, possibly a magnolia warbler, terns, a cownose ray, and a young raccoon). The hosts definitely shared their Southern Hospitality the entire time. They were even gracious enough to answer a call at 10:00 p.m. the night after our stay to answer our landlubbers' questions about the dangers of a tropical storm that would be moving through the area in a day's time.
- Tom (8/5): A curious review - I am not certain where to start, this property is tucked away and we were not certain that we were in the right place as we could not see any signs. Once inside it was more than charming and comfortable. The hosts were somehow nowhere to be found yet whenever we needed something they appeared as did our request. Our room had a balcony one the sound which was incredible in the morning. We had a continental breakfast waiting for us in our room at the end of every evening so when we woke up we were all set. Having breakfast on the balcony looking at the sound was so comfortable it is hard to describe. If you are looking for peace and quiet for a few days at your own pace this place must be tried. It may not be everyones cup of tea and i am not certain that it is mine but i am going back and would encourage anyone looking for a good experience to try it just once.
- Autumn (10/5): - Very nice area, beautiful scenery. Owners were very nice and took care of us. Fresh fruit and delicious pastries for breakfast! Clean and comfortable rooms as well as beautiful decorations
- Verified traveler (10/5): - No Tv. Thought it was a B&B where breakfast is cooked for you. Lovely home. Beautiful antiques.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's cozy, tucked away and the service was outstanding. I will definitely be staying here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Cypress Moon Inn is lovely weathered two story home in a beautiful secluded waterfront location The house has many lovely furnishings. The owners have provided a wide variety of interesting books in the living area for the guests. The owner, who lives next door, is a long time Outer Banks resident and can provide expertise on a variety of local activities and attractions.
- Wanda (4/5): - On the Sound, w/ a deck (in good shape) On paper looks/sounds good. If you don't mind rust, dust and spiderwebs. Property has not been kept up/maintained. Hard to find, signage faded/minimal.
Hostess Linda is very amenable, pleasant, offers use of kayaks, boards, bikes, beach chairs, etc. Which they do have. But chairs/bikes are spotted with rust, kayaks, laying in weedy area & when examined , didn't look like one could trust being out in . Walk to deck very overgrown w/weeds, that are head high. You can get to the deck, just have to wade thru the folage to do so.
Table in peach room spotted w/rust. One of glasses on tray dirty w/ring. Plastic tray where glasses were, broken w/one edge missing. House has not been dusted in a while. It's very disconcerting to reach to turn on a Lamp and find spiderwebs. (more than one lamp by the way). No breakfast. Tray in room night prev w/some fruit and muffins. sm. coffee maker in bathroom (do i want coffee made where I use the bathroom) why not a keurig in the dining room w/fruit and muffins in the morning if you can't do a hot breakfast?
why did we stay? they had already processed the fee. Bed, shower and bath sinks were clean. So, we slept there & spent the time out.
I get it..it's on the water and in the summertime. But if you are charging $200 night, you should take pride in your property It has a tremendous amount of potential. Not maintained/ not worth current rate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place in a great location. A true hidden gem.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Owner helped with luggage!! Porch overlooking water. Beautiful sunset and setting. Bed was very comfortable. Floor needed a bit of cleaning. Breakfast consisted of a heavy coffee cake, small fruit and coffee, not my preference. I would stay again.
- Niesha (10/5): Cozy get away! - Such a lovely place! Great service and a cozy get away!
- Robert (10/5): Great place to stay. - Great homey place on the bay. Victorian atmosphere. . Owners were very gracious. One night we had supper ( steamed NC shrmp from the local market, with wine, of course) on the veranda, enjoyed the beautiful sunset and peaceful evening. We will definitely be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We enjoyed the natural beauty and serenity of this lovely inn and its location, which allowed us opportunities to watch cranes, deer & turtles feed under awe inspiring sunrises and sunsets. Our hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable and made our anniversary trip an even more special getaway. This was our second visit and will not be our last! We’re already planning our return!
- Matthew (10/5): I'd do it again!!! No hesitation!! - Wonderful location and a beautiful house!!!! More scenic viewing than one can take in!!! Absolutely fabulous!!! All for a price that could not be beat!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Lovely setting.
Would have been nice to have a bottle or two of bottled water in the frig.
- Morgan (10/5): 10/10 would recommend - This place is amazing! The bed was honestly the most confortable bed I have ever slept in and the view of the sound was beautiful. The house itself is beautiful and the service was amazing.
- David (8/5): Continental breakfast delivered to room in evening - Nice to stay at a house rather than a hotel. Room was fine. We were the only external guests.
Room overlooks the water; with highway bridge in the distance.
The breakfast was unexpectedly limited - a muffin, a couple of pieces of fresh fruit (apple, orange) and a bag of coffee that I could use in the coffee maker in the bathroom. These were delivered to my room the night before. Not a hot breakfast - though I see other comments suggesting others got something hot. Better to advertise this as a simple continental breakfast. You may also note that 2 GPS units got us close to the house, but then messed up the signals.
- Cliff (10/5): - Views were amazing as well as the owners. Sitting out on the deck at sunrise and sunset take away the troubles of the day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great view of the Currituck Sound from our room balcony and all over the house. Really cool antique decore. Greg was a welcoming and knowledgeable host.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s right on the sound with beautiful views from the deck outside my room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was charming, clean, the amenities were simple but fairly updated. It's a beautiful home/inn, with about 3-4 bedrooms of good size for guests with en suite bathrooms (and fresh-baked goods in the room every day). The owners live on the premises and they're very friendly and hospitable. It's a perfect space to explore the OBX from. We went as a fall weekend getaway and I would highly recommend this inn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very quiet and peaceful. Great sunsets! Friendly and attentive inn keepers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Only stayed one night. Quaint marsh side setting. Friendly host who had great restaurant recommendation.
- Amy (10/5): - First, use caution relying on your cell phone map directions! It’s not hard to find once you’ve done it one time. The house is beautiful and has a wonderful view of the sound. We only spent one night so we didn’t have much time to enjoy all the wonderful things about this B&B. Breakfast is fruit and muffins left in the room the night before. The patio has chairs to sit out in the morning and drink your coffee. You can walk out onto the dock behind the house. Would recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Better than expected. I would recommend this to anyone!
- MikeMiller (10/5): - Greg and Linda are great host. This was the perfect place for us. It is a secluded Bed and Breakfast convenient to all the sights of the outer banks. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be going back soon. The view of the sound and sunsets are breathtaking. It has easy access to the major highways in the area.
- Manny (10/5): - We absolutely loved staying at the Cypress Moon Inn. Greg and Linda made us feel at home. They are friendly and great people that will make sure your stay with them is a pleasant experience.
The bed is extremely comfortable. House decor and the inn were wonderful, so many things to admire.
The grounds surrounding was beautiful. Got great pics!
We are definitely going back ASAP.
- Vic (2/5): - Beautiful setting, butterflies, dragonflies and picturesque sunsets. Property is somewhat rundown. Raccoons und-er building at night and roaming grounds. Rooms VERY small. Fridge 18-20" square, placed on floor. Difficult to access, located in very small closet. TV very old on homemade slide out shelf in same closet. Very hard to see from bed. NO DRESSERS!!! No place to put your clothes or suitcase. Broken coffeemaker, we went out and bought our own.
Intrusive staff, knocking on our door while we were trying to nap in afternoon, TWICE. Lectured by staff on air conditioning system and coffee pot. NO SIT DOWN BREAKFAST! Was looking forward to gathering around breakfast table with fellow travelers and conversing in mornings. Breakfast is muffins and stale fruit set out on trays the day before.
No railings on boardwalk or dock platform. Access to beach is an old folding ladder propped against the dock. No stairs down to beach.
Not safe.
Personal belongings left on private railing outside room to dry removed by staff.
Main parlor has not been dusted in weeks. Triggered allergies.
Found ourselves avoiding staff towards end of week. Unpleasant.
This was to be the honeymoon for us that we didn't have in Dec due to Hurricane Maria. Very disappointing. Do not recommend.
- Jim (10/5): This is a stunningly designed, hideaway inn. - We enjoyed meeting and talking with owner/hosts, the quiet, serene views and setting, looking out at the sound, sitting at the dock, eating breakfast on deck outside our door. Highly recommended, we'd come back anytime if we could.
- Emily (10/5): Lovely spot to retreat, relax, explore - and more - I’m so thankful we came upon the Cypress Moon Inn. I had packed a picnic dinner for my husband and I to share shortly after our arrival there- initially thinking we would eat it at the nearby beach or maybe on the dock. But once I saw the view from the back porch adjacent to our room (along with the hammock chairs there!), I had no desire to go any further than that porch for dinner. We watched the sunset from the porch as we ate- it was so relaxing. The owners were helpful from the time we made the reservation up until our departure. They are a lovely couple, and I hope to be back at the Cypress Moon in the very near future. We did not take advantage of all of the things to do there (such as the kayak or bicycles or library in the Inn) or in the area. The Inn was such a lovely spot and we were there for such a short time, I was quite content to stay on the porch taking in the beautiful views for nearly the whole time. We truly enjoyed our time there- and our time talking with Greg and Linda (the owners). My only hesitancy in writing the review is that - perhaps if too many people find out about this gem, it might be a big challenge to find an open night(s) for a reservation. This is truly a great spot!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Greg is very nice. There is yard work that needs to be done. Veiws are beautiful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great escape! Will definitely do it again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quaint - On stilts, so must climb fairly steep stairs. Interesting home and furnishings. Bed very comfy, Tempurpedic.
- Christine (8/5): 4 days on the Outer Banks - The location was great, quiet, peaceful and with beautiful views from the bedroom and balcony. The hosts Greg and Linda were very kind and pleasant. The place itself however seems to have seen better days and the breakfast was disappointing for the price category of this B&B, consisting basically of a basket of 3 fruits, and a coffee cake delivered to the room the day before and an egg dish delivered to the room at 8:30 am.
