Pleasant walking location next to a park and canal. Room did not have a thermostat (only a wall heater/cooler) so was hot at night. (Apparently, some rooms have their own thermostats.) Swimming pool was being used (6:30 pm) by several children so I was unable to swim.

The room cleanliness and comfort was excellent. The pool and hot tub water very clean. Breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful. The area around the pool can be clearer and the hot tub was not hot, just warmer than the pool. The jacuzzi in room 302 - bathtub plug does not seal completely which makes the water trickling out noisy - hard to relax taking a bath.

On site restaurant was excellent for evening meals Some staff a bit unprofessional and breakfast very disappointing given the caliber of the evening meal. For a hotel that positions itself as luxury/boutique this is more of a Howard-Johnson breakfast.

- 231sandyz (10/5): Beautiful relaxing hotel - Technically it's 4.5 stars. I'm removing the half a star for the noisy ventilation in the room which woke my friend and myself up. I'm a light sleeper. Many hotels have this issue with loud fans which I find bizarre. Other than that, it was perfect and I loved my stay. It's the BEST Best Western I've stayed at so far. Beats many other hotels I've been to as well. Elegant looking building upon arrival. Courteous staff, immaculate room, breakfast is included, there is the spa of course and it's right in the centre of beautiful Perth. All that for a very good price considering it was the long Easter weekend. Who could ask for anything more? Bathrobes are supplied in the room which is wonderful to go to the mineral water pool. There is also a eucalyptus steam room and hot tub. All very relaxing but with a press of a button, the pool turns into a "endless" lap pool for swimming in place thanks to a swim jet that lasts 15 minutes. Pool of my dreams! It was a perfect girl's weekend away and I will definitely be back.

- simjenk (10/5): Perfect stay for a night's getaway - I really don't have anything to complain about! In fact - quite the contrary, everything about our experience was great. The indoor pool area, including steam room and hot tub was nice, the warm breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages) was yummy, the free hot chocolate/tea in the lobby was an unexpected treat, and the room was spacious and clean. And the service was solid too. Checked in 30 minutes early no problem. And in terms of location, its near all the cute stores that Perth has to offer. Honestly, this is a great getaway.

- Gail (8/5): A nice place to stay in the lovely town of Perth. - The receptionist was friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and had everything we needed, and the serve-yourself breakfast was adequate — but there wasn’t anything that set it apart from other hotels in the same price range, so I rated it very good, but not outstanding. The location is great: near the centre of the historic town and adjacent to a beautiful park. The toilet paper was cheap and thin! I know that’s a strange thing to point out, but I always notice the quality of the TP and see it as an indicator of the generosity and good will of the management.

- AnnieGGGGGGG (4/5): A disappointing change to what used to be a valued breakfast experience - My partner and I are long-time guests of the Perth Parkside Hotel & Spa. One of the main reasons we enjoyed staying here in the past was the breakfast included with the room. When the restaurant operated under its previous ownership as The Locks, guests were offered a small à la carte breakfast (with a choice of two or three options), served across both sections of the restaurant. It felt calm, pleasant, and somewhat special — like a real added value to the stay. This time, under the new restaurant name The Fume, we were very unpleasantly surprised to discover that breakfast had been replaced by a continental-style buffet. The quality was extremely poor and the food was barely lukewarm. The scrambled eggs were completely tasteless. The bacon was sitting in about an inch of grease. The roasted potatoes were excessively salty. The bread was generic. The coffee was simply undrinkable. On top of that, guests were restricted to sitting in only one section of the restaurant — the darker side — while the other section remained unused. By 8:30 a.m., it was overcrowded, with more guests than available seats, forcing people to share tables. The atmosphere felt chaotic and rushed. Rather than feeling welcomed, we felt like we were in the way and that it would be a great idea to eat quickly and free up space. I literally took five bites. My partner refused to eat at all because he was disgusted. Despite having already paid for breakfast as part of our room package, we left and went to eat at another restaurant in Perth. We stayed two nights. After the first morning, we returned our breakfast vouchers for the second day to the front desk, explaining that we would not be returning to what felt more like a low quality cafeteria than a hotel dining experience. In practical terms, this meant we paid for 4 breakfasts included in our room rate — and then had to pay again for 4 breakfasts elsewhere. Even the staff appeared uncomfortable with the obvious decline in quality. We were told that at 10:00 a.m., when breakfast closes, tons of food end up to be thrown away. If this change was intended as a cost-saving measure, it does not appear to be working efficiently. We are extremely disappointed. What once felt like a privilege and a refined touch to the hotel experience now feels like a total sharp decline in quality and care.

- Victoria (9/5): It was a wonderful stay. - The breakfast bar during this stay was quite good. The staff was attentive and helpful. We were able to walk around the downtown during the afternoon. Part of the secondary lock on the door broke off when we opened the door. (Staff fixed it quickly though, which was nice.) There was construction on the restaurant, so the main area was loud, with some dust and smell. The chips I bought for my son at the vending machine were stale.

Kids loved the pool. However, Breakfast was the so bad I feel I have to comment. Even on a good day the breakfast at this hotel is very very basic,, way below the expected level of of a nice hotel like this. I could compare with other discount franchise hotels in detail but let's just say, it just doesn't compare. On a bad day, which the hotel had on Monday morning,, it was a full house,, they had no ketchup,, yup no ketchup and we were down there at 7:30am. They had run out of has hash browns and they had no serviettes. yup,, no serviettes. I felt bad for the staff as it wasn't their fault. and yes we survived. Yes the kids managed without ketchup because there was no hashbrowns to put the ketchup on anyways. At any rate ,,,,, i feel bad about giving this bad of a review, and never had to do one like this before, but I read these reviews from others and I rely on their comments in choosing our hotels. I hope the hotel improves in this regard because we would like to stay there again if that can be figured out. Breakfast

The food in hotel and nearby excellent, We spent 3 tranquil and relaxing days exploring and taking in the countryside around the Rideau Lakes area. Just 2 items of which to be aware... 1) Although the hotel is advertised as "The Parkside Hotel and Spa" they are separate companies. When we tried to book a spa treatment upon arrival there was nothing available for over 2 weeks! We were able to enjoy a massage at 2 separate times due to cancelations, but not online. If you plan to use the spa, book well in advance! 2) The air conditioner did not work in our room. Front desk was informed 2x and maintenance visited but we spent 3 very warm and fitful nights. We are seniors and were looking to celebrate my retirement... never been so tired after a three day "hotel and spa" stay in my life! At checkout we were informed that had we come to the Front Desk after returning to our room (around 9 pm) "we were going to upgrade you to a suite." I guess nobody at Front Desk ever heard of a message on the in-room phone - there was none - or a note on the door? Apparently it was our responsibility to complain a third time before any action was taken. Too late... likely not revisiting.

- Jerry (4/5): - This was the worst stay ever in a hotel. It started with me arriving 2 hours early and asking for early check in availability. The Front desk told me my room was ready, but I would have to pay $25 to go in early. This was an empty room just sitting there. I've never had this happen in any other hotel around the world - ever! When I brought some friends to the bar, and they asked for a basic drink, the bar staff didn't know how to make it. When my friend changed their order, they weren't sure about how to make a "Rum and Coke". When I ordered a drink that is normally kept in a freezer, the bar staff was surprised and asked me if that was the normal way to store it. The staff is not trained, and the feeling was this hotel was penny pinching to a high degree. I won't even get into the breakfast. It was a poor experience.
