Guest Reviews
- Rich Wilde (10/5): -
- Rachel (4/5): - Its location Banging noises all night couldn’t sleep
- andrew (6/5): Very basic towels were wore out no heating noisy outside smokers just below the window - Location Basic
- John (10/5): Good Value and a Great Place to Stay - From the minute of checking in, the staff were very friendly and accomodating. The room was very comfortabel and I slept very well waking up feeling refreshed.
- Oliver (1/5): - Nice location and food was good. I have never had an experience like this, upon entering my room there was a large RAT on the bedroom floor and it scurried off behind the toilet. I complained and they gave me a new room at my request. They also offered 2 free drinks to Which I said my food should be free and they said well you had a free room upgrade so they are only giving me 2 free drinks. The fact is they had to give me a free upgrade as it was the only room left. I never received an apology for this and the landlord who was around seemed more intent on swearing and having a go at his staff than making it up to a customer, he walked past me regularly and I could even hear him talking to the staff about me yet no apology. The poor attitude of the staff and the owner lead me to believe this is actually probably a rather common occurrence and a known issue as they didn't even act surprised. Just to confirm my suspicions that this must be a regular issue there was a rat poison box actually inside the pub next to the accommodation entrance door.id be very surprised if that room was cleaned before the next guests booking. All in all a ridiculous experience, handled very poorly. Probably okay for an overnight
stay for work, definitely do not bring the Mrs.

- Linda (6/5): Okay for what we needed. - Staff were very friendly, good pub food. Location good for our overnight stay. On arrival our room was very cold, no heating on, bathroom especially cold. The bar and restaurant area were also cold. The radiator in our room did come on the next morning and the room was then hot. We did however have a plug in heater which we did use.
- Brian (8/5): -
- Donna (10/5): - Room was very clean and spacious, friendly staff.
- Carmen (5/5): - Comfortable bed and warm room. Many maintenance issues. Bathroom heated rail not working and coming away from the wall. Window frame rotten a d patched over with plastic tape. Small room with too much clutter like extra heater and a fan. Noisy.
- Robert (4/5): - Location and parking Cramped and very cold
- Andrew (7/5): - The location and served us well . Some of the decor is very tired and if sorted would make such a difference . But very friendly.

- Jenner (10/5): Fantastic - Lovely pub ,great setting .
Staff brilliant ,owner Jezz top bloke.
Food fantastic and rooms brilliant.
I would recommend everyone to have a visit. Nothing.
- Antonio (1/5): -
- Diana (10/5): - Very friendly staff and comfortable room.
- Paul (9/5): - Perfectly convenient for my stay. Lovely stay, comfy room, great price
- Derek (6/5): Would I go back ? Well I think I’d give somewhere different a try next time due to the noise - Location For a small room it needs touching up a bit , paint work around the windows in bathroom are mouldy , furniture in bedroom needs touching up , room was quite noisy being above the back door to the pub which kept slamming
Staff must remember it’s a hotel when they empty the bottle bin also
The room also was not touched by the staff during my 3 nights , you would normally expect them to at least straighten the bed and fill up tea bags and check the towels
- Bryn (6/5): - Convenient Room en-suite tiny
- Adam (10/5): Comfortable rooms, great food, very friendly staff - A clean and tidy room in this historic pub. Jez and his team are friendly, accommodating, and always happy to help. We stayed for a family wedding held at the local church. We had a wonderful day and then great food, drink, and a comfortable stay at The Black Bull. Highly recommend.
- Beverley (8/5): - Good for a one night stopover
- Barrie (6/5): - pleasant accommodation but it would been good to have had breakfast offered in the booking.
- Craig (10/5): my sray at the black bull - we arrived at the black bull in Godmanchester to check in the landlord and staff are friendly the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable we did have an issue with the kettle at the time they didn't have a spare but to resolve the issue the barman lent his own personal kettle from his flat witch he went above and beyond of his duties i would definitely recommend yo stay here
- Sarah (8/5): Comfortable room - We had an en-suite room, which was clean and comfortable, was quiet at night. The food was good, staff were friendly. We would stay there again.
- Andrew (6/5): Take earplugs for a peaceful stay - Room above the bar area. Some noise from the bar. Accommodation located on the main road - some road noise. Pathfinder Room has kitchen vent on exterior wall - noisy whilst kitchen open (until 8pm on Tuesday). Corridor floors are creaky. Overall not a peaceful stay - take earplugs.
- Peter (6/5): - The property was convenient for our stay as it was close to family member’s residence, so only used it to sleep in one night.
Unfortunately the room we had had a cracked sink, cracked floor tiles,a black bin bag covering some unit in the ceiling and cobwebs hanging from the center ceiling light shade.we did not try the food, although we had been told that the breakfasts were great we were informed by the bar staff that breakfasts were no longer available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good value, clean and comfortable
- Michelle (10/5): Great stay - I had a great stay at Black Bull Inn. I was lucky enough to be there on a Quiz Night. The desk person (I didn't get his name) invited me to play and gave me a table next to his American friends. It was very nice. The room was great too.
- Timothy (6/5): - Friendly staff, very dated room. Despite being advertised breakfast was not available neither was bottled water provided in the room. Evening meals were not very good for the price. The “ homemade pie” was extremely hard pastry and the ribs weren’t very good.
- Donna (8/5): - Large comfortable room busy road but to be fair I booked it to be near main motorways
- Jamie (10/5): - Some nice tidbits of local knowledge hung on the walls. Friendly and helpful staff that take initiative.
- Vanessa (10/5): - Very friendly staff . Bed super comfy and pet friendly. Superb
- Diane (10/5): - Great stay at the Black Bull for my granddaughter's 18th birthday. Very clean and Ben was very friendly and welcoming. thank you
- Charles (6/5): - Not happy with the 4 o’clock check-in time. I had no idea that the property wasn’t serving food and only found out after checking in. When making reservation nothing was said about food. Normally they have a continental breakfast in the morning which also was unvailable. Finally I was charged for a additional day which has still not been worked out.
- Ohad (10/5): - My partner and I stayed for one night along with our little dog. The place was clean and comfortable. Instant coffee, milk and a little kettle waited for us in the room. All the staff was very helpful and extremely nice. Our dog was warmly welcomed as well, for a 10-pound fee. The pub itself is also very nice. Warmly recommended!
- Stephen (8/5): Suitable for a short business stopover - This was a one-night stopover for business reasons. The room was perfectly adequate for a night's sleep.Parking availability was good. Shower and bathroom did the job though the water pressure in the shower is fairly weak. Good tea/coffee provision in room. Did not use any of the catering facilities. At £75 it was perhaps a little pricey for what it was, but if I wanted the Hilton I would have booked the Hilton. Reception staff were friendly enough.
- Tim (10/5): - The rooms are really comfy and well appointed. Staff were super friendly and although its by the road it was really quiet too.
- Jill (10/5): Great Pub! - Great food and service, rooms are nice and have lots of nice touches. We enjoyed our meals particularly.
- Michael (10/5): - Very comfy room, great breakfast. Recommended
- Margaret (10/5): - Lovely friendly staff -food excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friendly pub - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. There is a car park on site. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was very good too. I had poached eggs and salmon on toast. The only thing we could moan about is the shower not being very powerful!
All in all we enjoyed our stay!
- Caren (4/5): - Upon arrival they insisted we pay extra for the 3rd person even though i paid for 3 adults at the time of booking. Also the shower was a trickle both at night and in the morning. When mentioned they said this was to be expected in an old property!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay! - Friendly host, lots of parking and room was comfortable.
- Craig (10/5): Good location, nice staff - Perfect location for us, friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Over night stay - Very helpful staff. The room was comfortable and I slept great.
- Alan (2/5): No check in! - Didn’t happen as couldn’t see anyone that morning- before evening planned stay - I wanted to advise possible late check in. Couldn’t get into hotel c8.30am - no one serving breakfast- no one visible! That evening I was delayed with train problems and arrived c10pm. Doors all locked- I saw a member of staff in bar through a window, which I knocked on - no response. Eventually I decided to drive home.
- roy (10/5): Great find - Great little find everything spot on will book again when next down that part of country
- Elizabeth (8/5): Great Breakfast! - One night stay to attend a function being held at the pub. The room was small but comfortable and it had everything I needed. It was immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable enough. I found the green safety light in the room a bit bright but otherwise the room was perfect. I could hear other people moving around in the morning …but to be expected in an old property such as this .
The cooked breakfast was really good and the staff were so lovely. I would definitely stay here again .
- Robert (8/5): Reasonable Pub Accommodation - It is a pub which offers accommodation. Room was okay, bathroom was small. There was no hot water at the washhand basin. Breakfast was good (thanks Jake). If you want an inexpensive stay it was fine (but do sort the hot water).
- Verified traveler (6/5): Pleasant stay but room needed some issues fixing - Room very small and had a few issues which we were advised they knew about when we reported them, but would have been useful to know on check-in. Shower knob broken, some light switches didn’t work, sink plug not working. Food in the bar and breakfast were very good and staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Lewis (8/5): Better than reviews suggest. - Clean, comfortable with friendly staff and nice breakfast.
- Maureen (10/5): Character, charm and superb hospitality. - Clean, comfortable room with all required facilities. Modern bathroom. Super helpful staff who could not do enough to accomodate their guests' needs. Will definitely be back. Loved the history behind tbe Cromwell Room I stayed in and the landlord gave directions to the statue referenced in the room for my RAF veteran hubby who is crazy about RAF history and dogs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent breakfast. A fan for the room would have been nice in this very hot weather, but a comfy and clean small double room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent stay. Fantastic staff. Lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and accommodating food was very good quality would definitely stay again
- Michelle (8/5): Freat little find - Family run pub and hotel. Food was great. Nothing was to much trouble felt very welcome
- christopher (6/5): Okay but wouldn’t stay again in hot weather - The room
Was too hot and no air con breakfast there was not much
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I have a nice weekend!! The stuff are very nice and everything was perfect!! Thanks!!
- John (2/5): - Aug 2018 Two night stay. the first night had someone banging on the door wanting to get in. The next evening when i returned the room had not been cleaned - bed unmade and pots left etc etc.
I was promised a refund for that night - lots of platitudes but never got that refund.
Oh and did i say the TV in the room failed to work.
what was nice was that the chef was most attentive and made a nice evening meal on the first night.
'Breakfast' was however UHT sachet in bed room and a box of cornflakes
- hazel (4/5): - The person at the bar didnt seem to know what was happening. The 'free' breakfast was a couple f packs of dry cereal.
- Dom (4/5): Basic accommodation - 5pm booking in time unbelievable - basic room and facilities with breakfast self serve in bedroom (cereal, milk, yoghurt, biscuit, extremely noisy electric shower forced speedy shower, an interesting approach - basic bed mattress with squeaky set up - cheap and cheerful is one positive way to describe the venue but I certainly wouldn't stay again
- Julie (4/5): Black Bullock - No frigde no hand towels room dirty TV broke no iron breakfast was cereal in room but no milk, worst of all no BEER😕😕
- Verified traveler (6/5): Poor room - Staff nice, but room over priced. Two single beds put together, and one squeaked if you sat on it. Breakfast was a packet of rice crispies (no milk) and a packet of bel vita. Not impressed! The food in the bar was good. Will not return
- Panagiota (8/5): Quaint little B&B with an amazing host - We stayed one night. The new owner John is giving a place a full revamp so on condition i think after the revamp the place will look great!
John was a wonderful host, he checked us in early and we had a third friend travelling with us but couldn’t give us a 3 bed room so he gave us a 2 bed and a single room which was amazing!
The place was really clean and the beds were comfy!
- Peter (10/5): Black bull - Very warm welcome from new owner of pub. Quiet bar area which was lovely. Will be back again
- Henry (4/5): Noisy and poorly run - Needs a complete overhaul of management and service
- Stephen (4/5): Not Very good - "Come and stay in one of our recently refurbished rooms" it says outside. I dont class 1980 as recent. Damp on walls, old mattress with little support. Towel heater in bathroom has fallen off but is still wired into the fused spur - the fixings are still on the wall and are 1" long spikes - just by the shower, so potentially could slip and be impaled by one. Hairs on the bed (not mine, I am bald). Noisy main door to rooms, the closer slams it shut at 200 miles an hour. Worth £30 a night, dreaming at £60 +
- Paula (8/5): Comfortable stay. - Perfect as I was at a function at The Black Bull. Lovely room, everything you need. Modern bathroom. Basic breakfast, no cooked but didn’t want that anyway. Friendly, helpful staff.
- Ian (8/5): - Needs a little TLC, but understand the property is undergoing a change of ownership so hopefully things will improve.
- Steve (8/5): Great food - The owner and staff were very welcoming. The room was comfortable and I enjoyed a good nights sleep. The bar and restaurant are very good with a large choice on the menu and specials board. I would rate the meal that I had ( Alaskan king crab legs to start and then Roast belly pork with mash and veg) very highly and of good portion size.
- Charles (2/5): - dire!
- Peter (8/5): The Black Bull an old hotel with a warm welcome ! - A very friendly welcome from Jon who ownes the place. We had an evening meal in the bar and it was very good 😋
The breakfast was not as good as we hoped for, having said that we would recommend it as Jon and his team make you feel at home!!
- Dorothy (6/5): Could do with upgrading - The room was clean but there was dampness on the walls and the carpets in the entrance were in need of an upgrade
- Right Charlie (8/5): Friendly pub - Quiet location on High Street, but not busy. Restaurant was OK. Emergency lighting had a bright green LED on all night. Breakfast is continental. Parking to rear. Old world pub accommodation.
- artyh (8/5): Basic but reasonable comfort - This was basic accommodation that was okay for our short stop. Good power shower and quality towels. On our booking it said full breakfast but this in practise seemed to mean cereal , toast, piece of fruit & yoghurt. No cooked eggs. It's close to town.
