Guest Reviews
Rien

- Angela (8/5): Very nice for a short stay of 4/5 nights - The location was good for us as we have family in Portsmouth.
The staff were very helpful and friendly
Food was good in the restaurant Not a lot of choice in the restaurant for lunch - and closes early
The cottages could do with a tidy up generally and we didn't have a mirror in our cottage apart from the small bathroom mirror above the sink.
Missed a swimming pool - although on the beach - not quite the same
- Tiffany (10/5): - The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming. The cottages are beautiful and spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the sound of the waves was very relaxing. The beach was also clean and well maintained. The restaurant was a bit expensive and the food wasn’t particularly special.
- Anna (7/5): - Loved empty beach No changing of sheets or towels in my 10 day stay
- Jane (8/5): - Stunning location on the beach, lovely food in the restaurant. The cottages were well set up even for 2 people.
- Leszek (1/5): Beautiful place ruined by cynical management misselling - Fabulous location Appalling and deliberate misspelling of second row chalets as beachfront on Booking.com
Management are disingenuous and unresponsive.
Restaurant is scandalously poor.
Room wasn’t cleaned despite request to do so.
We were leaving early on our last day and asked reception to ensure that security would let us out of the closed property gates. Come 6am, it was raining heavily and security refused to leave reception to let us out saying it was too wet for him and that we, in our seventies, should open the heavy gates ourselves.
Happy to do it but it made us soaked and late.
This place is so bad you couldn’t make it up.
It should be paradise but you really have to work hard not to be left with a sour taste in your mouth.
- Dwayne (7/5): -
- Maureen (9/5): - Location was perfect. Right on the beach. Not crowded and private. Walkable to a few stores and restaurants and a quick drive to even more. Sandy beach, good snorkelling nearby and good proximity to hiking and other activities. Was sure we booked oceanview but upon arrival they said we had booked garden view. It was not very clear in the listing.
- Nielsen (8/5): Great location to take in all that this beautiful island has to offer. - The location is just outside of Portsmouth on a very quite beach with amazing snorkeling from the beach, just swim to the right of the old pier to access the coral reef. Air conditioning in the bedroom was very nice. We were expecting the cottages to be a bit rustic, and they were. However, the tub/shower was in rough shape and the kitchen sink hot water handle was stripped so it took a bit to figure out how to turn it on. Minor issues really for all that was great about the location and property.
- Scott (10/5): Loved my cabin on the beach - Cabin on the beach you can really hear the waves which I like. Just look out your window to the sea. Step out on the dark sand and you're in the water. Spacious cabin, comfortable bed, good netting. At sunset the mosquitoes & no-see-ums come out & the latter is smaller than the screens & the netting. Good a/c . Friendly staff. Breakfast at the adjacent restaurant was good. The restaurant which is separate from the cottages has some difficulties with having food on hand at dinner.
- Gunilla (8/5): We had a wonderful time - Beautiful location on the beach. Nice cottage with possibility to cook A bit outside of Portsmouth, too far to walk but easy to catch a taxi.
The restaurant next door was expensive with marginal food and service
- Elizabeth (6/5): - The proximity to the beach and views. The hotel advertises itself on various platforms as having SPA services/treatments and this was one of the main reasons why I chose this accommodation however upon arrival I was informed this is not the case. The cottage could do with a facelift. Considering this, the distance from the centre of Pourtsmouth and the quality of the infrastructure, the daily rates for the accommodation seem overpriced. There are less expensive and more beautiful options in Dominica.
- Claudio (8/5): -
- Gilles (7/5): Choose wisely your stay in Dominica - Dedicated staff willing to make your stay enjoyable. This 18 cottage complex offered quiet, clean and well maintained grounds. Few mosquitoes. Sound of crashing waves at night. As our most expensive accommodation on our 9 island hoping trip, we had imaged a beach front venue but we were told we had booked a garden (back row) cottage (unclear at booking time). Location is great if you only wish to sit at the beach but we realized that most of our planned activities (hiking and snorkeling) were closer to Roseau (clearly our mistake). Hence we spent quite a bit of time driving as we underestimated the driving time to Roseau (~1h each way). Cottage's kitchen was very very minimalist (e.g. limited kitchenware - knifes/scissors/etc ) - expect to start your gas stove with matches every time. Our shower, bathroom and kitchen sinks clogged up - although maintenance folks diligently cleared the pipes thoroughly - the problem reappeared the next day.
- Debra Lynn (5/5): The chalet needs upgrade and refreshments , we felt we were in the 80s.Plumbing- leaking water on the floor from the ba - Location great and clean. property very secure. Restaurant on site was terrible.Service long , not a lot of choices for supper . Not appreciated
- Valentina (10/5): Great Stay! - Awesome location, right on the beach, well-kept grounds, so lush!; greatly enjoyed the sounds of nature - the birds during the day and the waves at night ❤️; clean and comfortable.
Great staff.
It was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve had in a while…
P.S. there’s a restaurant next door, run by lovely ladies…
- Sonja (8/5): - The access to the beach was amazing. The rooms were well laid out and comfortable. It was easy to access nearby things. The staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is limited. The internet in our unit did not work, but we were able to access the site's big at times it was spotty. The attached restaurant has limited hours.
- Peter (6/5): -
- Réka (10/5): Wonderful beach cottage in a tranquil environment and great starting point for exploration. - Beautiful cottage directly on the sandy beach. Very private and well maintained, beautiful garden and fresh fruits from the trees.
- Cherley (7/5): - The landscape of fruits The furniture is outdated... the entire cottage needs upgraded.
- Sabrina (9/5): - Exceptional stay
We only stayed for one night, but everything was perfect.
The host is incredibly kind and very professional — communication was smooth and welcoming from the start.
The view on the beach is absolutely amazing, and the location is peaceful and relaxing.
A great place to stay in Picard, even for a short visit.
Highly recommended!
- Sherrie (6/5): - The location was wonderful right on beach. Restaurant had fresh meals. We had no hot water for entire stay. Talked with office 3 times but was never fixed.
- Bonita (4/5): Only for 1 night stop - The staff were wonderful people and right on the beach. Walking around is okay to a few shops. The cottage is very outdated and needs a whole redesign and refurbishment. The shower broke off the wall and was very dangerous was offered to move but in the middle of the night it wasn’t appropriate. I would have expected a partial refund as it was never fixed properly. Doesn’t feel completely safe and someone could get in quite easy. The restaurant was I’m sorry to say awful and with fed up staff. The website information is out of date including most of the pictures. I was over charged for the stay then took a few days to get a refund and it wasn’t the full amount and didn’t receive the difference even after I explained.
- John (8/5): Lovely place, well worth the stay. - Can't beat the location on the beach. From your front door you can walk maybe a half mile south along the beach past two boats wrecked in the Hurricane Maria in 2017. You can snorkel along the wrecked pier pilings and see some nice fish. The cottage is cute and spacious enough. The A/Cs and fridge work well as did the hot water in the shower. Good location to walk to a few places nearby but a bit too far from Portsmouth to walk. Next door to the American-Canadian School of Medicine. We only had one breakfast in the restaurant shared with the Portsmouth Beach Hotel, but was very good. Great Pizza pizza place next door on the medical school property. Friendly staff. Mosquitos are bad after sunset outdoors and they do get indoors as well. Be smart and use the provided mosquito net for sleep.
- myke (10/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): -
- Cindy (9/5): -
- Michael (9/5): Great location on the beach. - Location was great, right on the beach. Only challenge was arriving late on Sunday afternoon to find their on site restaurant closed. However, staff directed me to a tasty eatery close by. Local breakfast at Picard was excellent. Staff were really good and helpful.
- Sofie (9/5): -
- B (10/5): A wonderful stay that is immersed in nature - The location and villa on the beach! The bathroom could be updated, especially the shower and tub
- Leigh (8/5): Would stay again. - It is a cool place if you know what expect. The staff is very nice. The room only had a/c in the bedroom, and the ceiling fan didn't work in the living area. They did bring us a plug in fan. The restaurant and bar closes very early, so pepare. I do recommend the omelettes in the morning.
- Leoni (1/5): Never again. Staff are con artist. Manager is doesn’t call you back or reply at all to your concerns. - The view of the beach The company is false advertising the beach front then gives you the cottage.
- Kristen (9/5): Would love to come and stay again - We had a truly wonderful stay here! The cottages are well furnished and clean. The kitchenettes have the most essentials you would need for your time there. The best part is the location next to the beach, which feels almost private since there aren’t many people. The staff were always, really, really helpful. The restaurant on the property is not great, and the staff were not very friendly.
- Cristina (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Miss Jack, Hilton and all the staff were wonderful.
- Lawrencehon (4/5): Disappointing - You get your own cottage which is nice. Some of the cottages are on the beach, some are not. Beach is fairly empty. We booked two cottages, both thinking they were on the beach itself. They were not. There was no information about this and no way to tell. Also, the cottages themselves are really dirty and in disrepair. I found several instances of rat feces in the bed and on the floor, there were many insects and mosquitos, the shower was broken (handle falling off, nails completely rusted and on the ground), toilet didn't really flush (had to flush two or three times), only one AC in the bedroom so other rooms were hot, and some of the power outlets were not functional.
For the high price, I would've probably preferred to stay elsewhere but if you're set on "glamping" this is as close as it gets.
- Duane (2/5): this place is not as advertised - there are two rows of cottages. only the first row of cottages are on the water . the cottages are rubdown and not maintained.
- Louise (10/5): Very relaxing location with frequent mini buses into Portsmouth for shopping and restaurants. - Location and friendly staff Not enough cooking utensils
- Colin (9/5): Lovely Cottages - Beach side location in gardens. Friendly helpful staff.
- Janet (5/5): Passable - The location is fine if you have a car. You need a car to access the island restaurants and sites. The cottages are nice but very dark wood inside - painting some wall a lighter colour would make a huge difference. Yes, they have warm water - I would not call it hot - but it works. Beach chairs and beach towels would be nice.
- Ken (10/5): - right on the beach cottages were amazing, be carefull to specify cottage on beach not garden if you want beachfront
- Samantha (9/5): Great cabin on the beach - The location on a long walking beach was wonderful. It was nice to have the cabin which offered a living/kitchen space and separate bedroom and bath. View from the front porch was terrific. The staff was very helpful! There weren't many restaurants on this side of Portsmouth. The restaurant next door serves a good breakfast and lunch until 2ish.....but no dinner. A car or taxi is needed to get around town.
- Kerry (10/5): - I had a great stay and my cottage was right on the beach. The staff were excellent and very attentive.
I would definitely stay again.
- Darja (10/5): Exceptional - Location on the beach. Well kept and clean surroundings. Really nice and friendly staff. Small kitchen in the cottage. Books to borrow. Restaurant open only till 3 pm. The pier is broken. Too many mosquitoes.
- Richard (10/5): Sublime - 🌟 5 Stars
Liked:
✅ Perfect seaside location—right on the water. 🌊
✅ Friendly, welcoming staff—Lexi, Dafar, Vernal, Ray, Briana all made the stay great.
✅ Reliable driver (Andy)—Made transportation easy.
Overall, a great stay with an unbeatable location and fantastic staff. Would definitely recommend!
- Jennifer (8/5): Warm water, soft sand, cozy cabin, all we needed for a relaxing and fun trip! - On the beach! Amazing to hear the waves all day and night. The rain sounded so beautiful on the roof of the cottage. All staff helpful and friendly. The boat was right there so it was easy to go out whale watching Bad mattress, couldn’t open 1 window because fridge in the way, another window because sink in the way.
- Radka (5/5): Beautiful location - The location is great, the best spot in Dominica. The cottages are right on the beach. Shower needs to be updated. - the pressure is so low and the water isn't warm.
- Florence (9/5): Wonderful, peaceful, and relaxing. - The cottage was located on the beach and the view was absolutely breathtaking. With tropical plants all around us, it was so beautiful. The staff was great and very accommodating. The food was delicious. I plan to come back again real soon. I did have some trouble operating the hot water on the shower in the beginning, but it all worked out in the end.
- Rachael (6/5): Pleasant - Close proximity to the beach There are lots of strange noises throughout the night. Window banging, dishes/spoons falling. We left as early as possible. Scary experience.
- Rich (5/5): Passable -
- Angelos (7/5): Good - The location is unique. The size of the cottage is very good In our cottage, the warm water wasn't working from the very first day. We stayed overall 4 days and it wasn't fixed despite that I brought it to the attention of the reception from the first day. It's a great place in a unique location. Thankfully the cold water was in reality lukewarm. It's such a pity
- Laura (10/5): Rustic Tropical Paradise - I cannot say enough wonderful things about Picard Beach Cottages! The staff is incredibly attentive and kind, and the accommodations are perfect for a rustic tropical getaway. Having direct beach access was a major bonus to this beautiful property!
- Geoffrey (10/5): Exceptional - Clean sturdy cottages, beautiful views, fast Internet, courteous staff. The grounds are well maintained. Easy access to Portsmouth.
- Judith (9/5): Superb -
- Hannah (10/5): Clean, well kept, great value - stay here! - The staff was so kind and everything was super clean. Hearing the waves everyday and night was amazing. Make sure you bring your snorkel. Some of the best snorkeling we did was right off the dock! N/A - look forward to staying again.
- Rita (8/5): Very good -
- Gregory (7/5): Good -
- Zahaira (10/5): Peaceful place to get away and enjoy the beach - We enjoyed everything! The cottage was lovely. Very relaxing sitting on the porch listening to the waves and having the beach right in your front yard. The views made it all the more enjoyable. Nothing
- Gina (10/5): I want to not only thank everyone at Picard Cottages for making my solo 50th birthday trip magical but I’d also like to - i absolutely adored and loved not only the property itself but the surrounding Portsmouth local area. the Picard staff treats you like
you’re family like you belong there; from check in to check out someone is always greeting you, checking on you always willing to answer questions or provide great customer service. be aware if you book off/low season the restaurant may not be open but there are plenty of small restaurants cafes to serve you within a short distance (waters edge was my fave). Savers is a great local grocery store where you can stock up.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - We had the best time. Quiet, well-appointed cabins right on the ocean. Everything was amazing, and the grounds are simply gorgeous. It will be even better when the bar and restaurant reopens.Take a whale watching trip right from your front door! Captain Andrew is very knowledgeable, and the boat is huge.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our beachfront cottage, neither of us wanted to leave. The beach is beautiful and we almost had the place to ourselves. We only had a quick weekend away but we visited from a neighbouring island and plan to go back and enjoy the setting once again and experience a little more of the surrounding area. The breakfast available at the adjoining restaurant was really great and we also tried lunch on our final day. Staff were exceptional, we had atm issues on our final day and they were able to assist in order for us to get home without missing our departure.
I absolutely loved waking up to the sound of the sea and opening the cottage door to the morning light over the water. Could have spent hours on the shady terrace reading, it was perfect. I also made a fuss of the resident cat, she was gorgeous. No complaints.
- Kalicharran (9/5): Superb - Location The bugs
- Nikscutie (8/5): Very good - I loved the coziness and comfort of the cottage. The size of the space, the cleanliness and the warmth of the staff and host. Waking up and going to sleep to thr calming sounds of the waves was a bonus, it was an awesome experience having the beach just a few steps away.
- Max (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, big appartment, great seaviews
- Zobida (10/5): Picard Beach Cottage 2024 - Perfect for the occasion🥰, it was a girls' trip, and so the ambiance and layout was perfect 👌 loved being close proximity to the beach🫶... literally a stone throw. Staff were very hospitable and friendly😎. The accommodation for food at the restaurant was amazing!😌 The cottages were well equipped and well kept, and everything was functional. 👌👏 Pinard was very helpful.💖 Ms. Lexy was the most!!!!..🤩..awesome folks!!! My cousins and I were most pleased with our first trip to Dominica 😌 Mosquitoes and Sandflies, but that's totally beyond the host control.
- Jennifer (10/5): Quiet beach front stay - Beach front access, practically a private beach all to ourselves. Kitchen in the cottage was convenient for meals! We did have some mosquitoes inside the cottage, you might want to bring citronella or other bug repellent.
- Imran (6/5): Pleasant - The location is great.Picard Beach is wonderful and the sunsets were beautiful. The cottages are quaint and clean.AC worked well. Basic kitchen wares to help you make meals. We made all of our breakfast. Portsmouth is a quiet little town in the North but the grocery was big enough for us to get a variety of items to cook. You can also stock up on more products at the bigger groceries in Roseau. Housekeeping cleaned everyday. The room did have sugar, milk, and coffee. It would have been nice to get some basic salt and pepper. There are a lot of mosquitoes as well. Just have to keep your bathroom door closed at all times. The mosquitoes came through the bathroom windows that did not have a screen.
- Tiffany (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): - Amazing property, great people great location 👍
- Isabella (8/5): Very good - The Cottages right at the beach are lovely. I liked the idea that you can see who has stayed in which cottage during the filming of pirates of the caribbean.
The beach is cleaned from seagrass every morning and a the staff is very friendly Mosquitos and iguanas can easy come in the room
- Ophar (8/5): Very good - Very Peaceful and private No TV and tub to our access.
- Trevor (10/5): Beautilicious - Peaceful the sound of the ocean was healing The in house restaurant was closed
- Zellie (6/5): Pleasant -
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (7/5): Good - Location was lovely, restaurant, when activated was super - but it woud be even better if it were open more consistently (as opposed to on demand)!
- Suresh (9/5): Superb - Cottage is good but too small On booking.com its written that cottage is sea facing and well equiped kitchen but its not like that only three cottages are sea facing its costly cottage is 35 km from airport best option hair car from outside airport
- Carolina (10/5): Great island cottages. - The whole setup is perfect. Amazing location to disconnect from the world. Still close to everything you could need on the nicest area of Portsmouth.
The vibe is really chilled. You can go swimming with the sperm whales with Andrew who moores his boat and runs the operation right at the front of the property. Totally worth going with him. We went out three days with him and just realized he has the better connection with the whales in the area… overall perfect setup for this unusual yet magical adventure on this gorgeous island.
- Andrzej (9/5): Superb - Perfect location near the beach.. Nice and friendly staff. No on-site dining possible.
- Valerie (8/5): Very good -
- Andrzej (9/5): Superb - Perfect location Mosquitos
- Karen (4/5): Picard Cottages has great potential but fails to deliver in a number of ways. - Nice beach. Close to groceries and a few restaurants. Close to scenic attractions.
Staff were friendly. It is located right on the beach but advertising suggests that all cottages are waterfront which is not the case. The cottage bathroom and kitchen are poorly equipped and substandard in the quality of their fixtures. There are almost no utensils, broken tub, and minimal kitchen equipment. The advertised complimentary breakfast did not exist and the staff seemed to not know if and when it would be offered. The morning it was available, we as guests were not informed. Overall the facilities and rooms are tired and in much need of repair and updating. The hotel arranged a rental vehicle for us that was not ready as promised, was not the make and model of vehicle promised and was not from a verifiable rental company. This could have been a much nicer stay.
- Bruce (7/5): Nice beach. Right beside the pier for whale watching boats- when available. - Right on a nice beach Attached restaurant closed
- Huldah (7/5): Good - Lexie very helpful. Helping to arrange transport. Informative about local activities. No on-site activity. Cooking facility on shelf unable to view items as so high
- Marina (7/5): Great quite place, very helpful staff - Location is right on the beach
And it’s still close to the road Not all cottages are facing the ocean, ie there is “second” line of cottages
- Serge (8/5): A very pleasant stay by the seaside - The staff was very helpful and the location was perfect with very nice beach.
