Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - センスのある空間で、良かった。
快適に過ごせました。
- Ajisaiblue (10/5): Dope hotel - This place truly makes you feel like you're a rockstar! Strongly recommend the suite room. Very convenient area, cool decor, very spacious for Japanese hotel. There wa a dj booth in the room, next time I stay I should book DJ for myself!
- Verified traveler (8/5): All the mod cons in sizeable room - Modern, comfortable and sizeable rooms with local designer amenities. The hotel had a restaurant and rooftop area but it was wet and fairly quiet when we were there. Walkable to key area but also 2 minutes away from train and buses. Supermarket and restaurants also nearby otherwise not a hugely vibey area but worth the stay for a nice decent sized room with a bath.
- AdinaParris (4/5): Feels More Like a Motel - Conveniently located next to a subway station, this hotel doesn't have much more to offer. It's more spacious than most small Japanese hotels, it even boasts a closet. The bathroom is also very clean. The bed is firm but not uncomfortably so. I kept the shades closed the entire time because there was no view through the large dirty windows. Opening them would have meant staring at power lines and ugly buildings across the street. After entering the room it still felt like I was outside as I could hear the cars on nearby streets going by. The carpet is really worn which gives it an unclean feel. In order to have the room cleaned, you will have to make a request at the front desk before you leave for the day. I wouldn't stay here again, nor would I recommend it.
- Danielle (2/5): Worst hotel ever! - Worst hotel I have stayed and I’m disgusted you recommend it to me,
The photos on Expedia are not the room
The room was dirty, mixed match carpet, old stuff under the bed, the hotel & room smelled really bad!!
We didn’t even have a window! It was frosted so couldn’t seen outside and wouldn’t open,
He picked our room key out of a bowl in the reception
No staff was ever present!
Tiny single bed for two of us, we didn’t fit in the bed and the quit was too small
The room was very dark, towels and bedding smelt,
We left after one night and checked in else where
- TraceyAsh1 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - I was booked here by the company I was working for in Japan. Requested non-smoking- and was not- the floor was smoking and rooms poor quality toxic air as a result. Corridors extremely dark. There is no common lobby area or reception for relaxing. The absolute worst fatire is THERE ARE NO WINDOWS. When I made this complaint My company was refused a refund. When i asked for a move of room I was offered the same with increased stained carpeting. This is NOT acceotable when a cliemt makes a legitimate complaint.
- fabriced990 (2/5): WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE - Room: PRISON CELL, DARK, NO WINDOWS, NOISY and DUSTY
Service: WHICH ONE? I didn't see anybody.
The one service is the breakfast where for 1000 yens you have a meal that costs 300Yens at the combini next door with twice the quantity..... (And you have to wait 15 minutes to eat it in the morning.
Worst hotel experience. Unbelievable that such an hotel can prosper with the competition in Japan having an average quality WAY ABOVE this one.....
Don't go!!!
- dcphillygermany (6/5): Could have been better - Pros:
- Great location, easy to get to Shinsaibashi, Orange Street and many locations around Osaka either by subway or on foot
- Close to Hommachi Station exit 23
- Great Breakfast with flexible options for vegetarians or vegans
- Friendly staff
- Many restaurants nearby
Cons:
- When I checked in I wasn’t told what time breakfast was or how to use the phone in the room
- The biggest annoyance was that the rug in my room (401) had bleach stains all over it. They didn’t offer me a new room despite me telling them that I didn’t like the stains
- Very dark hallways, feels like a nightclub all day
Overall:
I didn’t spend much time in the hotel so it worked for me. Next time I would consider another options but I wouldn’t rule out another stay at Rock Star for the right price.
- eduardo_mayrink (8/5): Great location, great staff - good value for money - Summary:
- Would definetely stay again for sure!
- Travelling for leisure with wife and 4 year-old child
Cons:
- Check in only after 4 p.m. - that would have been ok alone, if at least there was someone at the reception to leave our bags. We arrived at 2 p.m. and had to wait 2 hours until someone showed up.
- The bed was small, and we were travelling with a 4 year-old child. One of the adults had to sleep on the floor, and we couldn't get a spare futton set for it.
Pros:
- The hotel staff was very friendly, and good English speakers
- Best breadkfast ever!!!
- Great location: 2-minute walk of the exit #23 of the Hommachi station
- Rooms are clean and comfortable: good AC, soft bed and sheets, spacious bathroom (compared to Japanese hotel standards)
- Toilet amenities were great
- Hotel terrace lounge is very nice - perfect atmosphere to start or end the night before going to bed
- Yvoneflp (8/5): Great service! Clean hotel and great Breakfast! - We had a great time staying at this hotel! Very unique design and clean! They served freshly cooked breakfast! 24 hours free flow of coffee and tea!
I strongly suggest this hotel is value money! It is very near to subway too.
- KingProski (6/5): Compact boutique hotel for a good night's sleep - Rock Star Hotel is fairly central in terms of Osaka's layout. A short walk from Hommachi subway station (Exit 23 is the closest), the hotel is situated on a side street about 2 blocks up from a large traffic intersection, although it's very easy to walk right past it (I did) as there's little to indicate the hotel's presence outside.
The funky Neon signs in the entrance areas add a cool mystique to the ambience of the place, and the dark interiors make it look more like a rock club than accommodation, but I guess that's the point.
There's small reception area but as I found out, it isn't always manned. The staff seem to be stretched across several roles including working in the kitchen on the 2nd floor - an open-plan cafe area where I found staff prepping for lunch/dinner meals.
The staff were friendly and helpful, most of whom were definitely either musicians themselves or musos of some other category. I got the impression that this hotel is still trying to figure out it's boutique approach (i.e. what it is trying to to be) or maybe the 'cool/laid-back thang' is it's style, I wasn't sure. However I am a music fan myself, and I 100% approved of the chef's playlist.
I did get a great night's sleep;
My room (and judging by the building, others too) had no access to daylight. That is to say there were windows, but they were blacked out. I didn't mind this as I wasn't staying there for the view - I spent more time out exploring Osaka than I did in the room. The bed was comfy and even though the room and en-suite bathroom were small, they were clean and modern. There's air-con and once the lights were out, I slept like a baby.
I'm aware there's probably more to this hotel than I've mentioned here, but like I said for the purposes of my visit I was simply using it as a place to sleep so I didn't get to know the place all that well in my short visit.
If you're looking for a room with a city view I would recommend elsewhere, but if you're a traveller or young couple looking for a quiet, comfortable place to crash, Rock Star Hotel could be the hip place you're after.
- hdanieljp (10/5): Nice surprise, perfect staying - Nice room, nice bathroom (big comparing to others in Japan), everything was clean and very organized. The included breakfast was very nice. My staying was a very nice surprise, better than I was expecting.
- Neko258 (8/5): Cosy, modern & clean - Room was tad bit small, but met expectations of cleanliness, comfort & basic required amenities.
Service was good and usually prompt (despite reception counter not being manned 24/7). Room cleaning service is provided upon request, it was seamless and good. Staff was helpful in offering advice when queried about attractions/food/directions etc.
Pleasantly surprised by the breakfast quality. Breakfast is individually cooked & served upon arrival/order. Not of large portions, but sufficient. For 2 pax: unlimited coffee/tea, each served a full slice of thick toast, plus a single portion of breakfast plate to share, which consisted of sausages (or bacon), 2 eggs, & some arugula.
Location wise, good. Walkable to Honmachi / Yotsubashi stations. Shinsaibashi area is accessible by foot too.
Convenience store Family mart is just across the road! There's a 7-Eleven nearby too.
Lots of food options around. There's a Ramen joint (鬼平), less than 5 mins walk away, opens till late. Beside it, Coco Curry house. Check out a hidden gem >> A "take-away only" outlet, which offers great variety of take-away/bento food, at unbelievably fantastic price! It's along same lane as 7-Eleven (around 550-0012 Ōsaka-fu, Ōsaka-shi, Nishi-ku, Itachibori, 1 Chome−9−38).
Just a lane away from Rock Star Hotel, a 24Hr car rental outlet!
Overall, a comfortable & cosy stay, at a good location, surrounded with great food options & amenities!
- 870ingam (10/5): Nice Place - good location, friendly stuff and cool Rock style - I loved The place. There is music in the room, elevator, at the Restaurant and a cool Design of the Hotel Itself. The stuff is very friendly and offers a good Service. The coolest Things are The location Itself (few minutes from Hommachi Station in the Center and in a nice Quartier of osaka), the roof top Bar and the lovely made Breakfast.
- dawi67 (8/5): lovely small boutique hotel - very clean place, nice people with good english, good price, lovely breakfast, close to metro station to get to the jr station or to the castle, good location therefore you will forget very quickly the small rooms.
- cil106 (8/5): Clean, good location but very small - We have booked the standard double rooms, the rooms were clean.
Although we expected the rooms are quite small after reading previous reviews, but they were very small. We need to open our luggage on our bed and close them when not in use.
The bathroom is good size compared to the size of the room and very clean.
I know this hotel is quite new, however some fixtures and fittings have gone lose already, the hook next to the door fell off after I put my coat on it. The basin in the bathroom is on a slight angle.
Our room was at the 5th floor, the roof top bar opens every weekend, we can hear the loud music, people dancing & walking above our ceiling. Although the bar closes at midnight, but still annoying when you want to sleep early.
The WiFi is okay on the 5th floor, but our friends' rooms on the 3rd floor have very weak signal.
Breakfast was tasty and cooked fresh, the portion was quite small, one plate was shared between 2 persons.
Location was convenient, 5 mins walk from exist 23 of hommachi station,20 mins walk to Shinsaibashi.
The overall experience was good, and we did enjoy our stay. Staff are friendly and rooms were clean.
- 150ambrec (10/5): Such a nice Hotel to stay - I stay there for 4 nights and I really appreciate it! it is comfortable and the staff is very welcoming. They cook in front of you the breakfast every morning. It is delicious.
And the top is the bathtub! You can relax at the end of day after work.
- FlorenceL1674 (10/5): Super cute boutique hotel - We couldn't have asked for anything more. The guys that work there are lovely and we had a great time.
The rooms are small but it's not really that important since there's so much to do in Osaka and you probably won't be hanging around in the room anyway. The common spaces are one of the best things about this place. The kitchen area feels like home and as a bonus we got free breakfast. It was probably the best breakfast we have ever had at a hotel. Ever. There's also a bar and rooftop to hang out at.
The location was also pretty good. There's a few cute restaurants dotted around before you get to the main night district and the station is around the corner. Overall would definitely recommend!
- Fanjoya (6/5): Hotel - Clean and small. Enough for a business trip. They have free wifi but there is no laundry service.
Near many places to eat it is located in a very safety area. Near metro line 1.
Chambres petites mais propres. Ce bien placé dans un cartier sûr à le métro ligne 1 juste à côté. Ils ont service wifi gratuit mais non pas de service de blanchisserie.
- DKBKK (10/5): Sleep like a rock (star) - This is a cool place to crash for a night or two if you're into rocker style and appreciate small boutique hotels. There aren't any green M&Ms in the rooms, but it does have an artsy vibe with black and white photos by Daido Moriyama throughout the joint and there's a rooftop bar. The hip shopping area of Shinsaibashi is down the street where you can stock up on new threads for your next tour and you can nurse your hangover at one of the happening coffee shops around there.
- easterndaze (8/5): 100% recommended - Don't be put off by the name, this is a VERY quiet, well-decorated in a convenient area. It feels very family-like as it's rather small, but everything's great and easy. We've tried both types of rooms - if you can afford it, the suites are just ideal. Regular ones are very tiny - but you know that if you're in Japan- but smartly built, with nice furniture and equipments. Everything is very clean and intimate, it almost doesn't feel like a hotel. 100% recommended
- Triptikia (8/5): Nice boutique hotel - The hotel is in a good location, very close to the subway, and inbetween Namba & Central Osaka, meaning walking to most places is easy. The decor is stylish & the rooms are clean.
The only negative is that the bed was very narrow in the room we picked, so maybe a more expensive room might have a larger bed.
- JeanF13 (8/5): Good place for a drink in summer - I actually live nearby and run a small bar...the roof terrace is a gorgeous place to have a drink and chill with your date or a few friends...I haven't stayed in the hotel though so I can't say much about the rooms...
the place has been designed with the help of a local artist BUGGY, it looks quite cool!!(=゚ω゚)ノ the images are not from the hotel but some art from BUGGY just to give you an idea!!
