Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible experience – not worth the money - I had a thoroughly disappointing stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this was not going to live up to expectations. The hotel had a persistent unpleasant smell—not just in the room but throughout common areas like the lobby. The room itself was extremely worn out and tired-looking.
I was initially given the wrong room, which was only corrected after I complained. There were frequent power outages during my stay, often leaving me in complete darkness for several minutes before the generator kicked in. On two occasions, I was given visibly dirty towels, which had to be replaced.
The bathroom was poorly stocked with the cheapest quality toilet paper, and the shower pressure was so weak it was barely functional. Most concerning, I experienced constant itching after lying in the bed, which raised questions about cleanliness and hygiene.
For over £500 for a 3-night stay, this was absolutely not value for money. I was relieved to leave and would not recommend this hotel under any circumstances.
- OLIVER (2/5): - Not impressed,
- Ade (2/5): - I was denied my already paid reservation and had to go pay for another Mega-hilton hotel and my money is yet to be refunded even now...!!!
- Fidel (USA) (6/5): Good hotel, clean room and environment - Hotel is well located for Business and leisure. Accessible to everywhere, secured and clean. Breakfast is rich and staff are good and kind
- jessica (2/5): nothing works - Basically nothing works in this hotel. They will come and fix things if you ask but it's a struggle and will take hours. Plus they don't want to honor Expedia reservations and payments.
- jessica (2/5): beware! - they don't like to honor Expedia bookings!!! Beware!! We booked this hotel and paid for 2 nights at different points during our stay before arriving. Problems with both. We paid to avoid using credit cards in Nigeria and carrying cash and wanted to book through a reliable service like Expedia but Rooms were not ready and staff was rude. Manager unavailable. After a hassle, they eventually gave us rooms on the ground floor in an extremely stuffy mildew smelling room. If you book through Expedia you will be lucky to get a room and will be harassed during your stay. Also room service is terrible. All around awful for a lot of money for this area. Thumbs down!!
- hakeem (8/5): Not well maintained - My stay was amazing only that hotels.com still has a great booking issue with Nigerian hotels, you can do a last minute booking. You are more likely going to be turned down
- Verified traveler (4/5): Deceptive Description - The description of the hotel and rooms made it sound like it was one of their best views. However, when we arrived we were taken outside the main hotel in the rain to a much less desirable room and location. We paid cash separately for one of our team members who came to visit for only one night. After we left, they tried to charge him again. This was very disappointing.
- Edmund (8/5): It was worth it! - The Transcorp is probably one of the older hotels in Calabar. Although I experienced a bit of delay in getting my reservation confirmed, the staff were quite polite. I was also impressed that the hotel's facilities were still in good order.
Overall, I am glad I decided to stay there.
- Edmund (6/5): Just okay - The hotel is centrally located with courteous staff. The hotel's food is great.
I was a bit disappointed with the gym's location, seems pretty off.
Overall, it's one of the best in the Calabar town.
- Helen (4/5): A shadow of its old self - I made reservations online from the US through Travelocity. Upon arriving at the hotel, they could not locate my reservation. After almost 30 minutes, they stated that they could not honor the rate I was charged and for which I had paid Travelocity already and tried to charge me more. I spoke to the Manager and after almost an hour, I placed an international call to Travelocity, USA and they called the hotel and straightened things out. It took over an hour to sort this out and check in. This hotel and staff are unprepared to do business online.
