Guest Reviews
- JONG HYUN (6/5):
- Oren (8/5): Beautiful room and nice family - Great place and amazing family, beautiful room. but had constructions the and the room is not isolated so noise of the children, animals and construction was hard to take.
But still good value for money
- Ivyy (10/5): - Was touched by Suteja and his family’s warm hospitality. Always there when we need help and recommends places for us to visit. Room was definitely value-for-money, well-maintained and clean. Highly recommended to stay here if you want to have an authentic homestay experience. Place was convenient to visit all the nearby attractions like Ubud palace and art market and has plenty of dining options. Definitely not a place to miss when you’re in Ubud.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The owners were lovely and helpful. The location was perfect, near central Ubud.
The ac was not working properly and the facilities were a little old and tired.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Just gorgeous. Friendly staff, extremely clean, welcoming rooms, delicious breakfast, puppy was a bonus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The superior rooms are very much nicer worth extra cost Nice family good central position and good value
- Prithiviraj (8/5): - Breakfast nice, Room clean. overall satisfy !
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ubud - The family is super friendly. They arranged laundry service and a scooter rental for me. They leave hot water in a thermos with coffee and tea by your door every morning. The breakfast included fresh juice. I kept extending my stay because I was so comfortable. And it’s right in the center of everything. Walking distance to the monkey forest. Next time I’m in Ubud I hope they will have a room for me!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): A lovely homestay in Ubud - Wonderful family, comfortable bed, one of the best showers I've experienced at a homestay (hot + great pressure). Overall a great few nights.
- Roman (10/5): Beautiful homestay in the heart of Ubud - We really enjoyed our time in Jangkrik homestay. It is located south of Ubuds main spots and many highlights like the monkey forest are nearby. The homestay lies in a beautiful and quiet backyard with lots of plants, statues and small ponds. the family that runs jangkrik homestay is very friendly and charming. They could give us lots of tips around ubud and were always open for a chat.
Every morning we could choose our breakfast from a menu with many different options, a small fruit salad or fruit juice and coffee or tea added and it was always delicious and beautiful.
The room was clean and appointed with an AC and a van.
So all these surroundings and especially the lovely family made our stay in Bali unforgettable.
- Patrick (10/5): One of the best homestays in Ubud - Room was big, comfortable and clean. The building and garden is very nice and it's amazingly quiet although quite centrally located. Good choice for breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This homestay is exceptional! The entire family who run this place is the sweetest family ever! Breakfast was amazing and the family can even help you with hiring drivers for day trips! Over all the rooms were super clean, had hot water, and AC (If you needed it, we didn't the ceiling was more than enough at night!). 10/10 would recommend this homestay & would 100% stay there again!
- Karla (10/5): Great location, very clean, amazing breakfast. - It was great. The room was good, very clean, hot water, the breakfast is amazing and the family that owns the place is great. Perfect location.I would definitely come back. Wifi also works. Thank you for everything.
- Jeanine (8/5): - Very kind family! They booked tours for me and took care of my laundry! Breakfasts were fantastic! The only suggestion I have is to make refilling my water bottle more accessible😉!
- Paul (10/5): Perfect homestay in the heart of Ubud - I had a wonderful stay at Jangkrik. From the moment I checked in, the family were super friendly and welcoming without being overwhelming. They helped organise my scooter rental and a sunrise trek at rates that were far better than the other operators around town. The house itself is set back from the main road so it is nice and quiet at night, but it is great to be able to walk out onto the Main Street and be on top of some great cafes and restaurants. It is also only a 5-10 min walk to the Yoga Barn.
My room was fabulous, big and super comfortable with a fan and aircon, and a cute balcony to sit and have coffee breakfast that was cooked to order every morning.
I am so glad I found Jangkrik for my stay in Ubud, I will be going back! I can’t recommend it highly enough.
- Vanessa (8/5): Nice Homestay - Enjoyed my time there but not good for solo travellers as you don't really meet anyone else there. Mostly couples.
Room and bathroom simple but very clean. Some people commented on the sheets being damp etc but that's something you can't avoid in this humidity! AC not the best in my room but combination of fan and air conditioning was good. Family nice and they organised a trip to Gili T for me for a very good price. Yes, dogs bark and sometimes there is work going on next door so if you're a light sleeper that could be tricky. My room as in the courtyard and I could hear the fountain splashing. Doesn't bother me but if you have a weak bladder or light sleep, maybe not so good.. Overall fine though.
- Pierre (10/5): Great stay - Very nice place
- Pierre (10/5): - Very pleasant stay
- Carl (8/5): Room is small but cosy, good for few nights sleep - + really close to central, big supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants near
+ extremely kind, helpful and welcoming staff
+ reasonable price for the area
+ you feel safe in the room and leaving your belongings in the room
+ no cockroaches
+ rooms felt like they were kept maintained
+ wifi was fuctioning acceptably
+ superb airconditioning
- many dogs living at the hotel (can be intimidating if you are not a dog person)
- no soap in the room
- electricity and water cut off few times (only for 10-20minutes luckily)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, spiritual, warm , homely - Everything was well except for some tidiness issues when it comes to cleaning up bedding, blankets which the cleaner lady failed to do on the first day & the owners need to know about this. The blanket covers , blankets & bed was not done till I asked them to do for me after checking in
They are all a lovely bunch of people otherwise
Also a bell for room service or any other enquiry
is important, inconvenient to go downstairs if you are on the top floor & would save us energy & will help retain their privacy.
I would definitely suggest this tranquil place to my friends .
- pankaj (6/5): Our stay - Need cleanliness, very dirty. Towels & bed sheet needs improvement
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Famille agréable. Séjour de trois jours sans problème. Situation correcte.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great experience - Beautiful homestay and kind people, will come again :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely friendly family run little homestead right near everything a traveler needs
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good location but very shabby - Friendly people....but they could improve on their service like- clean white towles, clean cutlery for breakfast, at least some soap and extra toilet roll and most importantly drinking water in room.
- Kyla (10/5): Beautiful homestay un a great location - We loved this homestay, we originally booked 2 night but extended for the rest of our stay in Ubud. Great location, in the middle of hanoman street which is where you will find great food and lots of shopping. The owners are so kind, always asking how your day was. We wake up every morning to hot water on our balcony for coffee or tea and they make a delicious breakfast when you're ready for it! I would highly recommend this homestay. They also have AC and fans in the room for maximum comfort. In regards to any of the bad reviews, you're paying $20, you will not get 5 star quality. But I think that this homestay is a great deal and worth more than what you pay. BEWARE, if you are using maps.me app, the location is wrong! Use google maps and you will not have a problem, or ask the locals, Balinese people are always willing to help!
- Daniela (10/5): Very nice homestay - The owner and her family are very nice, helping us with every kind of things. Organize transfers and tours and were every time really friendly. We love this place, it's really good located in ubud. We will come again.
- Charles (4/5): Another highly rated dud - The people were friendly but sadly this is an older run down home-stay in a town with virtually unlimited competition of better value. It would have to rank in the bottom quartile.
- Emily (10/5): Tranquil oasis in the busy city centre! - The staff at this homestay were so friendly - I loved my time here. Booked for 3 nights initially and ended up staying 7 - and when I go back to Ubud I'll definitely stay here again. It's in a really busy area on one of the main roads in the city centre - but the actual homestay is set far back from the road so it's really quiet, like a little oasis. So tranquil and I loved the leafy courtyard area in front of the rooms. Lovely!
- Lena (6/5): Mould smell in room and overbooked - I arrived and the room I booked was unavailable. She offered another fab only and when I refused she asked me to come back and she would see the person in the room and ask her to move. I ended up round the corner at her brothers. Nasic but clean and aircon and wifi worked. I found another guy had ended up there because of the same reason. When I finally got a room(5) it smelt strongly of mould the entire time meaning I had to leave the fan and Aircon on to clear the smell. Aircon generated a marked vibration. Bed felt damp the first night. A fountain ran all night next to the room. So if you sleep lightly it may bother you.
Outside area was pretty, they were very friendly and breakfast was fine. Overall I wouldn't use them again.
- Fusey (8/5): Good for solo traveling - The home stay is very good and lovely. Nice location. Hosts are friendly and you can book Trekking tour with them with reasonable price. There is no drinking water and bathroom amenities provided.
- Donna (10/5): Go the extra mile to serve guests - Jangkrik is perfectly located in the heart of the new Ubud. Ubud's centre, has indeed seemed to change, and this home-stay is in the perfect position to both access services, and yet still provide Balinese peace for which a true Bali holiday demands. The room and home-stay was clean, well-resourced and service from the family was impeccable. They respected privacy and yet were attentive, even though I was not a long-term guest. The room verandah offered delightful views of the home-stay and family as they went about daily life. Truly Balinese in service, interest and design flair.
I was particularly impressed well attention to service and speed of that service. My request was not impossible, but would have been easy to ignore: quick booking on a shuttle bus to Lovina. The manager booked for me and did the legwork with no commission. It appeared that if not an important village personality, he had his finger on the pulse of services and village life.
Breakfast was served quickly and was a delicious welcome to Bali- fruit and a banana jaffle.
- David (8/5): Favourite place we've stayed at in Bali! - Tucked away just off one of the main roads it is a typical a Balinese house, absolutely stunning! The dogs are a bit scary at first but once they get to know you they're just the cutest. The house is in an excellent location. Very friendly people and a delicious breakfast was made for us even though we got up quite late at 11:30. We got a 'special deal' for a fast boat to Gili T from them which was 600,000 IDR return trip each. The company which took us to Gili T was pretty good (everything always seems a bit sketchy at first but turns out fine in the end). We didn't get breakfast on the morning we left but we didn't ask for it so that could've been why.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice homestay close to Yoga Barn - We enjoyed our stay at Jangkrik. The homestay is tucked in, protected from the craziness of the Ubud streets. It's a very pretty property with nice rooms and a great view from the balcony. The host family is very sweet and made delicious breakfasts each morning. It's just a 5 minute walk to Yoga Barn and a 15 minute walk to most of the top restaurant/bar options, with many options close-by and on the way, too.
- Ane (8/5): Quiet homestay with nice owners - I would like to recommend the Jangkrik Homestay. Is a quiet place for singles and families, who visit Ubud. Owners are very nice, who prepare a delicious breakfasts.
- Arlene (8/5): My Stay in Ubud - Overall it was a nice stay where you can feel just as staying in a house. The family is nice. They will assist you with your needs, tours, transport, etc at reasonable price. The breakfast is good. I am not so sensitive with noise when sleeping so I had a comfortable sleep. For the price, I got what I paid for. Fair enough. It's basic but you get what you need. Overall I should say it's a good pleace to stay if you're a budget traveler.
- Stephen (8/5): Cute little town - Easy stay, close to monkey Forrest and great food.
- Joel (10/5): Great stay in Ubud - A central homestay in Ubud within easy walking distance to the monkey sanctuary, markets and palace, our hosts were excellent and the breakfast superb. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
- Amber (10/5): Best place so far! - Favourite place we've stayed so far on our trip. Great value for money, great location. Only issue was WiFi was shaky, but not unusable. Would highly recommend!
- Lynda (10/5): Great breakfast - The Kecak and Fire dance is just accross the street. The Monkey forest sanctuary is a short walk away. The banana crepes for breakfast is really good. Clean room comfortable bed.
- Lynda (10/5): Best breakfast in Bali - Nice quiet place to stay. Great staff. Wonderful breakfast served on patio. Very comfortable bed. We saw Kecak and Fire dance practically accross the street.
- Colin (6/5): - A great place but spoilt by their two dogs that barked loudly whenever anyone seemed to come.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great position in Ubud - Within walking distance to restaurants, warungs, markets, palace and a great shopping strip. Everything you need with fresh tasty breakfast served on your verandah each morning.
- Bruna (8/5): Nice hotel with great location - The family is very nice and is always ready to help. The breakfast is delicious and the room is comfortable.
- Rodrigo (8/5): Great location - Great location, really kind staff. Good experience to live among a local family.
Only problem was that the room didn't have air conditioning, when in our reservation said it had. But the owner kindly changed us to a room that had air con and was available.
- Elisa (10/5): amazing price, friendly staff, very nice room - we had an awesome time. we actually extended our stay from 2 to 5 days. even though there is no pool at this homestay, the nice owners, their breakfast and the room (which has a memory foam mattress, ftw) made it worth for us to stay extra days. it is nice, clean and quiet (except for construction right next door, but it wasn't a whole crew, just one guy). would definitely stay here again!
- jody (8/5): Good location, great breakfast - Yea, decent place. It's everything you need. Bed is awfully hard but breakfast is fantastic, construction going on when I was there across the way. Super nice staff.
- Jane (8/5): All you need in center of Ubud - The rooms are clean, and simple. Very convenient location in Ubud on a central road, close to most attractions. Breakfast is amazing, it is a different meal everyday, cooked fresh by the owner.
This is nice homestay, it is a bed and breakfast kind of place, do not expect a luxurious apartment. The room has a bed, nightstand, wardrobe, sink and washroom with shower and toilet. Hot water is consistent.
Each room has a patio or terrace with a seating area in which breakfast is served. Internet connection is good.
The host is very friendly.
I would recommend this homestay if you are looking for simple, conveniently located accommodation with a great breakfast to start your day.
- Maree and Kate (8/5): Excellent Affordable homestay in Ubud - My adult daughter and I went to Bali for a few days relaxation after a busy year, however we didn't want to spend a lot. Jangkrik organised our transfer from the airport (not included in room rate) and we were welcomed on arrival by a smiling and friendly hostess. Our room was one of six situated in a family compound with a beautiful tropical garden and Balinese sculpture. The rooms are clean with little furniture, ours was air conditioned and there is a ceiling fan. The bathroom has a shower and modern toilet. The breakfast each morning consisted of a tropical fruit plate plus an additional dish like pancakes, eggs, etc, delicious, served on our patio, lovely.
- steve (6/5): Low budget accommodation - Barking dogs were annoying. AC available for extra fee. Breakfast very good. Shower and toilet are in the same room with no separate shower stall. Therefore the floor is always wet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Homestay, even better owner! - Owner was wonderful. Location is great. Bed a little uncomfortable, but AC, and hot water is a plus!
- Janice (10/5): Close to shops, restaurants and cultural events - A friendly homestay with great breakfasts and everyone with a smile.
- Paul (8/5): Wonderful Homestay! - We immediately booked 2 more nights as soon as we arrived. The location is perfect, and the Homestay itself was so authentic and quaint. The owner was so sweet. She even booked us an amazing rafting tour, for cheaper than other people on the same tour paid. Breakfast was delicious! Only downfall of our stay would be the extremely annoying rooster somewhere in the neighbourhood (not theHomestay's fault), and an uncomfortable mattress (maybe only in our room). Overall for the price, it can't be beat!
- Verified traveler (4/5): not worth it. - shower water pressure very low. booked hotel with ac did not get it. went around and found much better accommodation for 20 sgd with ac and breakfast. location good only prob is narrow garden and fan only when we booked ac room. water feature noisy so could not sleep well at night. too noisy unless u like water dripping all night.
- Hannah (10/5): Amazing home stay - This was my favorite place that i stayed at in Bali. The staff was amazing and the breakfast in the morning was great. You're really close to everything you would want to see. I could live here!
- kt (10/5): Central location - This homestay had everything we needed for a few days in Ubud. It was central, had free (tasty) breakfast/tea/coffee included, air conditioning (surprisingly we didn't use as the ceiling fan was efficient), cute dogs, and was hosted by a really nice family.
Short walk to Monkey Forest and lots of nice resturants. We highly recommend Sari Organic, a bit of a walk but beautiful views and good food - note, resturant is on a walking path so only walking or scooter access.
- Ross (6/5): Great value in Ubud - Great homestay with a lovely host in a great location. Only negatives were a poor shower and poor WiFi, but is good value overall. Great breakfast!
- Mercedes (8/5): Great value for money in Ubud - Jangkrik Homestay offers excellent value for money, with clean rooms, close proximity to shops, restaurants and sights. The family is extremely sweet. The homestay is about 30m back from the main road, cutting out some of the sound of traffic. I will be staying at this homestay for the entirety of my four weeks in Ubud and have been very happy with the level of service at this price point.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great to experience local customs. Great local style breakfasts. The hosts are great
- Dan (4/5): Unfortunately, we got what we paid for... - First the positives, the location is awesome, 10 out of 10. The woman who owns it is very nice, and makes a point to say hello when you come or go. Makes it feel like a true homestay. The included breakfast is good. Fresh fruit and a quick pancake or toast with jam, a great way to start the day.
The bad, we never got a good night sleep. The water pressure in the shower was comical.
The fan in our room barely moved, and after saying someone would come look at it, they never arrived. With almost no outside air flow, we ended up sleeping very hot in our room. Which didn't matter much as sleep was only for a few hours during the middle of the night. The nearby roosters started crowing at 4:40 AM and the neighbor who is building a house was cutting tile at 6 AM. We left the room exhausted everyday, not refreshed.
As for the shower, it dribbled water out. We ended up filling bottles in the sink and using those to rinse off and shower.
- Mike (10/5): Home away from home in Ubud - We had an amazing time staying at Jangkrik. The mother and daughter are the sweetest people, they made us the most delicious banana crepes every morning. Helped us set up a hike up Mt. batur, and let us rent a motor bike from them. They got us a better deal on everything and helped us save money. The only negative thing I can think of is there is no A/C. But the ceiling fan worked well. They have the cutest puppies and a very friendly cat. I would stay there again in a heart beat! Thank you Kadek for the generous hospitality!
- Penny (10/5): Basic, affordable accomodation close to everythin! - Very basic rooms in a traditional Balinese home! Walking distance to most things in Ubud. Staff were lovely, breakfast was yummy and the roomm was clean!
- Penelop (8/5): Quiet homestay - Unpretentious, quiet homestay away from the road about 15 minutes stroll from Ubud palace. Very friendly and helpful owner who will arrange tours, buses, massage etc for you at very good prices. Good breakfast included. Wifi available.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best homestay in town
- Realy nice homestay close to the city venter and the monkey forest. The stuff was realy friendly and we feld absolut welcomed. The best breakfast we had so fare !!!
- Pam (10/5): Charming family compound, great location & service - I wanted a homestay close to Sacred Monkey Forest. Jangkrik was also close to the most interesting shops and restaurants. The mother and daughter were especially helpful with local information, a driver, and incredible breakfasts. The family compound was lush with plants, trees, birds, kittens, and dogs in the central area. I always felt safe and the Teak furniture and doors were gorgeous. I recommend this to anyone. The other residents were mostly college age, but I was solo and older. It didn't matter. I only reserved 2 nights, and stayed 7. I was able to visit areas outside Ubud by hiring the driver for a full day for $40.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Homestay - Right in the heart of Ubud. Room was clean, a/c good and had a ceiling fan. The A/c was not needed during the night, only the ceiling fan on low. Staff were very helpful when arranging a bike tour and transfer by bus to the next stop. Water pressure for the shower was a bit low, but we still managed showers OK.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - I had a wonderful stay at Jankrik. The location is great. Walking distance to the monkey forest, yoga barn and tons of shopping on the main road. The family is very friendly and accommodating. The banana pancakes that they make for breakfast is to die for. I would stay here again for sure. The room didn't have a tv but for the price it has everything you need.
