Guest Reviews
- Jerry (4/5): - Bathroom is very small and tight. Bed is okay .TV not working at all
- Verified traveler (4/5): Subpar stay, good location - Good location. Front desk worker was rude and unhelpful on arrival. Room was very dusty and bed was uncomfortable . Wifi only works in lobby . Located on very noisy street.
- Amber (4/5): - You have to turn your key in when you leave the property, even just to leave for dinner and come right back. Wifi signal only works in the common area.
- Lukasz (8/5): - It was just n city centre, close to everywhere
- Verified traveler (6/5): Will not go back - Rather old and dirty, I was in a private room, bathroom very small and toilet bowl still dirty from previous guests. Impossible to sleep without ear plugs.
Lady at the front desk was helpful.
- Vesa (10/5): I'll be back - It was nice. Exactly what i expected to have.
- gord (4/5): - Check in was bad. A temporary person was at the reception desk and we waited for about 15 minutes, then went down the street to a sister property to eventually check in.
Washrooom space was too limited.
Internet was not great. No service in the group room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms are spacious and the kitchen is quite big as well. The washrooms are alright. There’s only one toilet for an entire floor so that’s not amazing. The kitchen is closed after a certain time and only opens up at 7am so if you have an early bus or airport it’s not very practical. Location is good.
- Daniel (6/5): - Very expensive for what it offers, however, Dublin accommodations are in general super expensive. Staff is helpful and there's a room where you could leave your luggage until check-in time. A bit too noisy due to proximity of DART railway tracks. Centrally located with easy access to Busaras (long-distance buses), streetcar, local buses and DART train. Also a short walk from Temple Bar, museums and churches across Liffey River. Talbot St is nearby, with several grocery stores, gift stores and just about any other business one could think of.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kindness of the people in charge, hostel very closed to downtown
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The light in the bathroom was flashing the entire time. We had to shower in the dark. Told the front desk and they didn't do anything about it.
- SÉRGIO MURILO (6/5): SERÁ QUE É MESMO UM HOSTEL? - NA REALIDADE NÃO É HOSTEL , É A CASA DA MÃE JOANA , VALE TUDO HOMEM NO DORMITÓRIO DE MULHER E VICE VERSA, ROLA DROGA NA SALA DE VISITA E COZINHA, NINGUÉM RESPEITA SEU SONO E A C0MIDA QUE VC PÕE NA GELADEIRA. É UMA ZONA . AS RECEPCIONISTA MAL HUMORADAS, SOMENTE O FÁBIO É AGRADÁVEL . PÉSSIMA EXPERIÊNCIA. WIFI NÃO FUNCIONA NO QUARTO, SÓ NA RECEPÇÃO.
- Hector (6/5): - Good location, close to public transportation, attractions, restaurants. Because of the date I paid a lot of money for a private room with bathroom, room was clean and spacious; however, no shower gel/shampoo was provided.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This hotel is well ubicated but I thought it might be better than it
- Melanie (8/5): Lovely lady at the desk - There was a lovely lady at the desk, with brown/black hair - never got her name! But she was so lovely and eager to please. The place is in a great location, and we enjoyed our stay very much. They also have a held luggage facility which was so useful!
- yves (8/5): - hotel ancien typique
- laura (8/5): - Great location, very easy to walk to everything or close to transport. We had a private room and bathroom, good size room, comfortable and bathroom was fine.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worse hotel yet - There is only WiFi in common areas, doors slam, bathrooms are dirty, price does not equal value. It’s about 15 min walk to center.
- ron (8/5): Good - The hostel is really nice, we stayed there for 2 nights in a room with private shower and it was great. They didn't change towels during our stay but when we asked for clean one we got it. The only 2 disadvantages are the wifi-no wifi inside the rooms!! It's written of course but still it's not convenient. And another thing- the windows don't avoid the noise from the outside! The location is great, but because it's in the center of the city it's really noisy. For the price- it's worth it.
- Glenda (8/5): - Great room and location very clean although a bit noisy. Staff fantastic and helpful.
- Sarah (8/5): Good little hotel - We had an overall good stay here. The staff were really nice and helpful, the other guests were all pleasant . The only minus was the beds were like rock, no give in them at all. After 2 nights we were aching all over.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Train track right next to hostel, paper thin walls could hear every word being said upstairs/next door, over heard man at reception saying inappropriate things about us (young girls), one toilet cubicle, no keys to access room just a 3 digit code to get in which is probably the same for every room, bugs flying around
- Vinicius (4/5): - Staff is very impolite. Doesn't know how to threat the customer. I politely asked them to check because the lock was not working and they told me that I should get back and try again. I did it and returned to them saying that it still didn't work. They complained and said that it was sad that they had to stop what they were doing to check the lock. I didn't answer to avoid more serious problems. The room is very old and doesn't have too much comfort. The matrices are not comfortable and they don't have a safe place to store valuable stuff. They say you should drop with them at the reception but after the bad first impression I preferred to keep it with me. I will never get back to this place and will never recommend it to anyone.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wouldn’t stay again. - Dirty, needs to be repainted as there were cracks and water stains on the walls and ceilings. Very loud at night with the train and people being loud in the courtyard very late. For what we paid I was expecting more.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - You need to get a key from the desk in order to use the restroom. To make it worse, in the morning, only one of the bathrooms was working for the entire hostel (3+ floors)
- Alan (10/5): Great hostel close to city - This is a great cheap hostel close to the city and also to travel centres - Dublin Connolly train station and the bus centre.
- Verified traveler (4/5): A whole three toilets in the entire place - Stayed there two nights. Workers were pleasant but cut my finger on a sharp edge on the under part of the stair banister and there was a whole 3 working toilets in the entire place...not just bathrooms. Hard to image a better place isn't available somewhere in the city.
- Gabriella (6/5): Last minute - I had not expected Dublin to be so expensive. Bag packing hotel did sound dreadful but it was cheapest option (I am getting old and difficult you see). Anyway I was nicely surprised by community spirit and vibrancy of the place. It is not a 5 stars but my room and shower room were clean and quite nicely decorated. The staff was smiley and helpful. The kitchen/dining/sitting area was lots of young people from around the world making acquaintances. But most importantly it was close from everything.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Close to everything. Average quality at best. Bathrooms didn't have any thing to dry your hands with. Wifi was almost nonexistent at best. Needed it to search for future destinations.
- Charley (6/5): GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY - this was our first hostel of our trip. it was nice and the staff was friendly. we were a little disappointed that there were no lockers in the room, but the staff offered to hold any valuables behind the front desk. could have been more washrooms, a lot of people had to share only a couple.. which meant some waiting around. otherwise good location and good for value of money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, poor cleanliness. - Parking is not on-site. Parking is a Q-Park located 2 mins drive / 5 mins walk away. A free parking voucher worth €10 was given. Kitchen facilities were good. Cleanliness was poor to fair. Great location, very close to city centre. 24h reception.
- Jonny (6/5): A Comfortable Hostel Close to Major Attractions - We booked Citi Backpackers Hostel because we were having trouble finding a quad room in Dublin for a reasonable price. We are all in our early 40s and hadn't stayed in a Hostel in years.
I could go on about the things Citi Backpackes isn't -- or what they could do better -- but instead I'll focus on the positives:
- The rooms were clean (we booked a second room for 2 other guests staying one night)
- The shower pressure and water temperature were good
- The building is U-shaped with a courtyard in the middle to meet & mingle
- The Hostel is a 2 minute walk from buses to and from the airport
- The Hostel is a 15-20 minute walk from Trinity College, Temple Bar & Grafton Street
- The beds were comfortable
- The staff is friendly and has character. Fun to talk to and very accommodating
- They offered late checkout (noon) and bag storage at no extra cost
If you are looking for a budget place to stay in Dublin and are willing to overlook some comforts (some things we saw made us shake our head and smile but we never felt uncomfortable or disappointed) then Citi Backpackers is a great option for you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly hostel - Know that males and females share rooms.
- Daniel (10/5): Good for the price - Having read some of the reviews, I was not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
We were going to a gig, so stated one night. We stayed in a triple room, which had a double bed and two bunk beds. Could easily sleep four in the room. The room/bathroom were clean. Local area was okay; only a 10 minute walk to the main pub/food area, and the airport bus stopped outside the front of the hotel. Wifi was poor, but it always is in these places. We didn't spend enough time in the place for that to matter.
For 80 euros it was very good.
- smileattwilight (4/5): Would not return. - The location is great! However, the room was not clean. We found a needle in the room, we were also told thy when we left the building we were not able to take the key with us and that we had to leave it in the reception area, I don't know if this is a common policy other places but I have never been asked this before and it made me feel uneasy about leaving the accommodation.
- Hazel (10/5): - My friends and I stayed in a Quad Room. It wasn't very quiet as we could hear people from next door talking but it wasn't really a big issue. The room was clean and comfortable, bathroom was clean too. Location was ideal as well and we generally had a great stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff very helpful. Great location. Had a lovely time.
- Debbie (10/5): - lovely room for the price, friendly and helpful staff
- taraustralis (2/5): Screwed me - I paid for accomodation for one night and with only 3 days noice after booking over a week before my stay, I get a mass email with EVERYONE's email address stating that they canceled my accomodation due to over booking
Sorry last time I checked it wasn't my fault.
They didn't help me find new accomodation either - seriously poor form guys.... be glad I didn't name and shame on social media.
- ka (8/5): Nice kitchen - That's a typical hostel. There are some 8-ish people's room, a women room, nice kitchen, Lady's shower room. Most staff is from Europe. The good location, not dirty, I would say the hostel was very good competed with others which I stayed in Italy, Vienna, and reasonable.
- Pedro (2/5): Terrible! - Terrible staff. Room was super dusty. Last day and we didn't have water to shower because there wasn't enough pressure to supply the entire hostel. When we did have water it either was super hot or super cold. Common areas were filthy.
- Vincent (4/5): Hostel to avoid if possible - I wasn't sure to believe the reviews or not, but now I know. The hostel is not clean at all (kitchen, floors, toilets, showers...), I'm not sure the staff is really involved to improve this place...
Also you can forget Wifi, it's only working on the ground floor, if it's working of course...
I left the hostel after my first night, I will definitely not going back there.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Lava toon fine cleanliness and comfort very poor - 1 key between 4. No showers Saturday early evening and Sunday morning and afternoon. Half the staff were fine
- Verified traveler (4/5): Over charged for the condition of the room - The Wi-Fi didn't work even after our reporting to the reception
- Neil (8/5): Nice hostel in heart of Dublin - Great staff, central location, was better than expected for the price all 8 of party was very happy
- Ammie (2/5): Worse place in dubli - My purse was stolen by a member of staff, when confronted and asked to view cctv they were unhelpful and very rude! Donkot stay here!!!
- James (6/5): Interesting experience expensive at peek periods - We found reception helpful on arrival and good security with a genuine 24 hour manned desk. We had a private room but tea making was just kettle and cups the ensuit shower toilet area was very small shower ok but no plug in wash
basin and hotel couldn't provide one.
There was use of a kitchen which looked ok we only stored milk in fridge overall it was pricey for a hostel at weekend but overall we managed would stay again but avoid peak period weekends c
- Wilson (2/5): Worst BnB in Dublin City - Avoid at all cost.
I'm a Software Engineer based in Cork, go up to Dublin every month for a day or two for work.
I booked a double room, got there around 10pm exhausted after a long day of work, they gave me a 4 people shared room, even if it was only me in the room, there were 4 tiny beds instead of a queen size one
But the biggest issue was the en-suite bathroom unclean and toilet full of you-know-what floating, literally someone had just left the toilet without flushing.
Then I came down to reception asking for a new room, the guy barely apologizes and gives me the keys for another room, I asked them twice if he was sure this one was clean, he said absolutely.
So I went upstairs to the new room and it was an already booked room with people still inside.
Then I went down again completely upset already and gave them a 3rd chance of redeem themselves by giving me a final room, this time the reception guy came with me to the room, when we got in there was toilet paper still in the toilet of this one and the toilet water still running, like there was still floating stuff on it and someone just flushed it before I came in.
That was enough for me, I asked for a refund and the only reason I didn't leave after the 1st room was cause it was late and I was really tired, and what really upsets me is the unapologetic attitude of the staff acting like there's nothing wrong with giving people 3 diff rooms completely unclean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cheap, clean hostel in Dublin City Centre - The price was very reasonable, rooms were clean, and hostel was located within a few minutes walk of many popular Dublin attractions.
- Joanna (2/5): Rented an unfinished room - This place shouldn't be open.we were put in a room, just beside a smoking area.bottom part of d shower was open so u could see all pipes, sand, soil etc.there was a toilet paper roll in d hole where a extractor should be.the bathroom window was clear,so smokers could see clearly inside.we complained about d room and were moved to their sister hostel, but it wasnt any better.if we haven't had to stay that nite in dublin,we'd gladly run away.no discount given,d staff argued a little bit on d begining saying that there's nothing wrong with d room.stay away from that place.
- Isaac (6/5): - Receptionist during the day was very friendly, night porter was extremely rude.
- Christine (2/5): Don't Stay here! - This was the most expensive , poorest quality, dirtiest and had least facilities of any place I stayed in my 9 weeks in Europe. It was a total disgrace and a s---hole. 125 euros a night and not even a towel supplied. In fact I couldn't even hire a towel because they had run out. Had none on both the nights I was booked for. Wouldn't wish the place on my worst enemy. I intend to make a formal complaint.
- R (4/5): You get what you pay for - Fairly cheap considering the facilities, room was ok but a few flaws with damp issues, struggled to get hot water for shower and sink hanging off wall in bathroom, as well as the mirror had screws loose. Toilet wouldnt flush. Fairly noisy but being a hostel you expect this. Right next to train tracks so expect noise as windows are only single glazed
- Verified traveler (4/5): Close to the city - Room was super tiny and a bit skanky, mattress was like a yoga mat with a sheet on it, wouldn't recommend
- Philippe (2/5): Jail could be better than this - Not recommanded - Room look like a jail cell. There is moisture everywhere in the bathroom, humidity smell in the room. I was looking to book somewhere else after seeing the place. Very very bad place
- Vicki (2/5): Don't judge a book by its cover - Over the weekend we stayed here, we looked through the photos looks a nice hotel well don't be fooled! It looks nothing like this!!!!!!!! We considered leaving after seeing the luggage room and living area but were greeted with a big sign saying NO REFUNDS! We turned up expecting a 'locker' to store items well there's none a luggage room that smells and is disgusting to put your bags on the floor... No safe box for phones money etc had to keep everything with us all weekend. We then walked into the living room area... Nothing like the photo unclean, damp and totally ran down... We were staying in a 8 bed dorm where we shared the room with 6 other men (we're females) which was uncomfortable to say the least especially the inappropriate comments we received off them!!! The shower area was the highlight of the weekend well the female shower area which was slightly newer then anywhere else... Hot showers which were bliss seen as you felt so dirty!! The toilet was always left in a dirty way or the toilet seat was smashed twice in the days we were there or there was no toilet roll!!! We had the opportunity to look in a private room which they wanted €100 extra which was damp and mouldy and smelt asif it needed a really good clean... Our room was slightly cleaner at least! All in all I will never EVER stay in a hostel again traumatised for life!!!
- HARUKA (6/5): Night before Departure. - location good, comfortable bed the Hostel was quiet & relaxed & the staff were helpful & friendly.
- Nick (2/5): Worst accommodation ever. - Room had gum on bed and floor and toilet didn't flush. Walls were disgusting. I complained at front desk and asked for a refund. They refused and gave us a different room that had black mold and a plug hanging out of the wall. Wouldn't recommend this place to live for a homeless rodent.
- Jason (4/5): Exactly what you'd expect for the money. - needed a bed for an overnight after a concert in dublin. private 4 bed was relatively clean. no frills, do not expect a hotel experience. If I was staying here sober and had windows open i'd need earplugs as it's in a pretty busy area with trains and stuff.
- Stephanie (6/5): Not Bad - The staff were friendly and it was within walking distance to restaurants, shops, stores, and public transportation...a great location. The building is quite old and the shower was very small but it suited us for the night. Clean sheets and a reasonable price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Organisation of bookings should be improved. - Stay was fine however having booked and paid for a double room I was firstly told there was nothing available, then when I produced my booking confirmation I was asked if a single bed would be ok. I said yes and was shown to a six-bed dorm. At least I was on my own which was what I really wanted.
- Paul (6/5): Ideal for my needs - Ideal for my needs, a late notice booking to join friends in the city who were visiting for a stag do and were staying elsewhere. Perfectly situated and met all my needs. Even the lad who woke everyone up when he fell out of bed and crawled out of the room, never to be seen again, added to the occasion and entertainment value.
I really can't say I wanted or needed any better than this place, so it was great.
