Guest Reviews
- Cherise (2/5): - Arrived at 9:30 to be told the air was out and there were no rooms in the hotel. No message or notification of this in advance. Would not have driven all the way to mystic if I had known.
- Michelle (2/5): - Do not book. This property is no longer in business. We were fortunate enough to get a room next door at the Residence Inn Marriott. They were very acomodating and gave us a studio for the same price we were supposed to pay at the Whitewall. Not sure why this is still advertised as an available place to stay on Expedia.
- Edith (10/5): - Ac was down so they put me in lovely adjacent property.
- Michael (2/5): - Horrible
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I arrived and the heat was broken. Moved me twice and no heat in the whole building. Was told I would be refunded the hotel stay amount back to my credit card. This didn't happen. I called spoke to staff and was told I would be contacted. What a bad way to do business. I have a video of the temperature also.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hello...my husband and I spend few nights over the Whitehall mansion...it was very charming with fireplaces in the room and in living room of mansion also with the history and classic architecture. It was very private as we were the only ones staying in the house with 4 rooms. My only concern was regarding the safeness of the place as the house was retired from the hotel desk or any type of help personnel and didn’t have any type of security in the outside doors only the doors going directly into our room had a small lock..in addition there was no WiFi working and because the old construction heating system is a little weak....however was very well placed with the olde mystic village near by and was a total deal with the rate.
- mary (4/5): - While our room was in character with a 1700s home and actually decorated quite nicely, the floors, blinds and drapes were covered in dust; the heat was not functioning properly and our room did not get over 60 degrees. We were provided with a log for the fireplace which worked out but did nothing for warmth; the glass doors of the fireplace were black with soot. The one positive aspect was the jacuzzi tub which was great..needed that to warm up!!
- AMarie (10/5): - Beautiful historic mansion. Jets weren’t working for the tub so it wasn’t perfect but it was a much needed relaxing evening
- Donna (10/5): - I liked that it was so very old, loved the lace canopy bed and the fireplace.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but dusty - It was amazing to stay in such an old mansion with history. I did think our room would be one of the prettier rooms from the picture. I called two times in the weeks before I came there to get a nice room.we were on our first year anniversary of our marriage. The only real complaint I can have though is that the curtains were caked in their draped folds with dust. The wooden blinds were loaded with dust and the floor was Dusty. Under the bed I noticed a crushed out cigarette butt in the middle of the floor. Whether it got stuck to someone's foot and was put there I have no idea. Overall, the staff at the desk and the other hotel was very kind and helpful. The takeaway breakfast was great.
- Caroline (8/5): sixth anniversary - Everyone was amazing the only downside is maintenance to the building and breakfast was less than wow but understood that’s due to the pandemic
- Randy (4/5): Neglected - Upon entry, the room seemed quaint and rustic, after all, the house was built in the 1770's. However, soon you discover that the house is neglected and hasn't had a through clean in months. Though the days are very pleasant, the nights are chilly. the next morning, while raising the blinds I discovered the glaze to several windows is gone and rotten wood in the window panes. There were cobwebs all over the window sill and frames. The curtains are tattered and the lining is rotting. The bed was clean as well as the bathroom but the place has been neglected for some time.
- Melinda (8/5): A nice stay - Really cute room. Weve had a nice time. Cleanliness leaves something to be desired. The room at the Whitehall is like a little flat. We love the colonial feel. Our room smells like wood from a fire which we loved. The air conditioner look's like it's from the 80's but it works well. There's quite a lot of dust which has been effecting my allergies. I like that we are able to use thw mariott ammenities, although we were not made aware of that arrangement until we arrived. The canopy bed is really cute and comfortable and we've enjoyed it very much. This location is great because it's so close to mystic aquarium which was our featured destination for our trip. Unfortunately the breakfast that everyone raves so much about on the reviews isn't impressive. Due to the virus they are extremely limited at what they can serve.
- Donald (8/5): - It was a beautiful place. The only complaints were that the coffee area was not fully stocked - no cups and no ice scoop. Everything advertised a free check in gift or bottle of wine, but we were told they don't do that anymore. We didn't need either one, but it shouldn't be advertised.
- Mark (8/5): - It was a nice room. The floors were a little dirty but otherwise ok.
- Gleici (10/5): - Staff were very friendly, room were clean, comfortable and peaceful.
- Trent (8/5): - The house was very neat only bad thing was there was no wine when we got there
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not worth the price point. - The advertisement for this property is very deceiving. The properties WiFi was not operable. The mattress was uncomforatble and sunk toward the middle. The AC would not get cold. And the bathroom, no words to describe the dilapidation. Early colonial not need to be substandard.
- Pacheco (8/5): - Very friendly Atmosphere with Staff... The Breakfast was well put together and Very Good... For a 250 year old mansion surprisingly aged very well, It is kept up with the original Exterior and interior which is awesome once again for its age.. Also for the location it was very quiet with everything you need on that same road.. We Would Definitely Return again...
- Mary-Anne (4/5): Very Disappointed - The room was dark and dingy. The couple of rugs on the floor looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. The tub had dirt and chalky residue all along the bottom. The bed needs a new mattress. The only plus was the breakfast. I was not impressed!
- Susan (10/5): Quaint and romantic - My husband and I were seeing a show at Foxwoods and wanted to have a relaxing place to stay, something quaint and romantic. What a perfect spot out front of the the Residence Inn. We even got a free bottle of wine with our stay. The inn was built in 1777. Everything is old and authentic with some modern style upgrades. Fireplaces work in room, they also have jacuzzi tubs. There is a common sitting area at the inn with couches, fireplace, coffee maker, ice, microwave and toaster. We would totally book again. You check in at the Residence Inn. The staff was wonderful, so nice, we even had breakfast buffet included.
- April (10/5): - This is a very unique and quiet place! I come often and love it every time!
- Tacklebox (6/5): - I had to ask for the free gift that was a bottle of Pinot Grigio. And there was no duraflame log in our fireplace and because it was late when we checked in, we had to go out and purchase one for ourselves.
Very charming and very old but seemingly dirty as well. I guess that’s part of the ambiance. Lol!
Overall, I was kind of disappointed. Wouldn’t stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I loved my stay overall. The love the mansion inn and it's historical look of the outside and inside. However, even though something is historical, it should NOT be so dusty. The blinds actually had the word 'dust' written on them. And the curtins, were so thick with dust it rained down on me every time I moved the blinds. The bed and bathroom was spotless and I would still stay there again but maybe bring a swiffer with me and dust it myself. The staff was so nice and the bottle of wine a nice touch! The internet didn't work at the Mansion though either but I gave up and finally slept.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Loves it the first time we came in 2014 this time they over charged, toilet wasn’t clean, candy wrappers on the floor and hair all over the sink and in the bath tub oh and not log for the fire and no complimentary wine this time!
- Dawn (8/5): - Fun option to stay in the mansion part of the hotel. Mansion was as advertised, we enjoyed being set away from the main hotel but still getting to enjoy the amenities of the hotel. It was quiet and clean. The staff was super friendly. We would definitely stay again.
- Allan (6/5): Disappointing - The room was ok. The furnace was on all night and very noisy . There were no water glasses. There was a coffee maker but no cups. There was only one small bar of soap. I would not recommend the room in the Mansion inn. The breakfast and staff were very good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Housekeeping never came.
Fireplace screen clogged with soil. No log provided.
Jacuzzi jets didn’t work.
No reading lamp as pictured.
No complimentary wine.
Furniture and draperies soiled.
- demortemart (8/5): - It’s a beautiful 18th century and rare home the paneled walls, proportions of the rooms, and front staircase are all gorgeous And special aspects of this building it’s just a shame that it doesn’t receive the love and attention it deserves like it did at one time
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Whitehall Mansion is a house, built in 1771 that is situated on the property of the Marriott Residence Inn, and is managed by them. It is charming and historical, has good amenities, but you must remember you are in a house that is over 200 years old. Loved the canopy bed, the simple, old style furnishings and the amenities the Residence Inn offers.
- Janet J. (10/5): Charming place - I enjoyed staying at the Whitehall Mansion Inn. Very charming decor - nice, comfortable canopy bed with a fireplace in the bedroom. The room was very spacious! The buffet breakfast provided at the Residence Inn next door was very good. Looking forward to stay there again next time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent and accomodating staff. Good location. Hot breakfast.
- Randy (6/5): - This has great "bones" but needs a little sprucing up... we were a little surprised to check in at the Mariott Suites, but that staff was really terrific.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was really nice and romantic staff was nice room didn’t have enough towels or any soap. But staff corrected. Really nice room though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the historic home style and the in room fireplace. They provide a duraflame log, but in our room there was nothing to light it with. We got back late and were lucky to have a lighter with us. Otherwise everything was great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was great with the exception of the 300+ slanted floors that induced some vertigo. Perhaps 1st floor rooms aren’t as slanted.
- Joseph (6/5): - Bed was horrible and had to call the front desk at 230 am to quiet down the next room having a party
- Paul (4/5): Not as advertised - Check in took forever. Didn’t receive a complimentary bottle of wine as advertised. Fireplace was nice and room also advertised a jetted tub which it had but it didn’t work. Stayed 2 nights and room service showed up at 3 pm and asked if anything was needed and handed off fresh towels and that was all the service provided. Tried to provide a period feel using furniture that looked and felt like it was from a yard sale. I’m very disappointed with this booking, I expected more from a Marriot property.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was super cold, although we already red some bad reviews but we didn’t believe was so cold and hoped they did fix it
- Bridget A (2/5): Last Minute cancellation. - Canceled my reservation at the last minute stating repairs are scheduled.
- Brenda (4/5): - Never got to stay their! The day before our trip, we got a call from Marriott and said that the inn was closed and they gave us a room at their hotel that was on the property.
- Michael (2/5): - Disappointed in hotels.com and Marriott
- Pat (10/5): - This place is beyond charming! So disappointed we saw no specters!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a spacious room and bathroom which was nice. There was limited table space and no refrigerator.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I really liked the room but my only complaint is the hot tub was a 1 person tub.
- JC (6/5): - This quaint, historical property is charming and has potential, but feels sorely neglected. The lounge area has nothing to offer except an old coffeemaker and ice machine. The building is tricky to navigate and you're on you're own figuring it out. The description mentions a "welcome gift upon arrival" but there was none, nor were their any logs for the fireplace. And the bathroom sink was leaking. We returned to the front desk (located at Residence Inn next door where you check in) to inquire and they did their best to accommodate, giving us a bottle of wine and sending someone up to bring a log and check the sink, which couldn't be fixed that day. Later that night we discovered the heat wasn't working so we called the front desk and again, they sent someone up right away who moved us to the room across the hall which was smaller but cozy. The next morning, I went to use the Jacuzzi tub but the motor was dead. (Thankfully, the bed was comfortable so we had a good night's sleep and could laugh all this off). The breakfast at the Residence Inn was good. The staff over there is pleasant and accommodating and did everything they could to help us with the problems we encountered. If the management could make repairs and be more conscientious about its maintenance, the Whitehall could be a lovely alternative to all the cookie cutter hotels in the area, especially because you get far more charm for far less money and use of the Residence Inn's facilities.
- David (8/5): - Not as advertised as in part of the Marriott hotel, not really a B&B. The accommodations were still very nice.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I called ahead of time to confirm the room. I drive 180 miles to be told my room was "out of order". They did give us a room in the big hotel but the main reason we chose that location was the romantic rustic inn!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were very helpful the fireplace made the stay
- paul (10/5): - excellent other than booking sites should inform people they have to check in at the residence in by marriot.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Whirlpool didnt work. That was 90% of my reason for staying.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This is a charming colonial house built in 1771 now run by the Residence Inn which is located behind the house. The room was very clean, bathroom clean, also. FYI check in is back at the Residence Inn as is breakfast in the morning. Not what we expected. Overall, an okay experience, but nothing great.
- William (10/5): Great place. - Great property. Mansion is full of history and period furnishings. Love this place.
- Martha (8/5): Dark but cozy with free wine and fire! - Needs more lighting. The fireplace was a huge treat but think the duraflames should have been left every day so we didn’t have to call. Also thanks for the White wine. That was a great treat. But next time please include a bag of ice alongside. Very cozy spot. We really enjoyed it. Thank you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is the second time we've stayed at the Whitehall Mansion. We love it
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - Inn not quite as advertised - I cannot believe the overall rating of 4. First of all the sign is not lit and since the inn is basically almost attached to a Residence Inn, it is hard to find. Nowhere are you told in advance that you have to sign in at the Residence. I could not lock my door from the outside (or did it wrong?) so didn’t unpack till I was ready to remain in the room, I also could not lock the outside door to the Inn so it was left unlocked until hopefully someone from the hotel locked it at night. The floors were sagging as was the walkway leading up to the front door The room seemed dirty. The jacuzzi didn’t work. Luckily there was another couple staying there or I would have been REALLY scared. The workers at the Residence were very pleasant. One told me that anyone who booked via Hotels or Expedia or any travel site was similarly disappointed by the incomplete info online. Breakfast, which was NOT at the Inn but the Residence, was good. I guess I expected a quaint old B&B and was not expecting all the misc. disappointments, which added up.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Let me start by saying that I have stayed here several times over the years and I love this house I feel like I'm home every time I stay there. That being said I was disappointed that some of the personal touches were missing this time, the journals visitors wrote about their experiences in and the cheese plate for social hour are just two I noticed. The cleaning left a lot to be desired someone stuck gum to the nightstand and it was never cleaned there was finger prints everywhere because things were so dusty not just the mantle which I guess might be expected from the fireplace but the blinds and furniture also. This is a historic house and you would think it would be kept up better. I really hope someone takes some initiative and gets this house back up to where it should be so it doesn't deteriorate further, future generations deserve the chance to admire this beauty for many years to come.
- Heather (4/5): - The Inn was very quaint but the room heat did not want to shut off when lowered, the shower did not drain, the sump pump ran and ran, the advertised picture of the inn did not show the hotel chain that surrounds the inn. And, the mattress was very soft, so we found it to be very uncomfortable.
- Robert (2/5): A Dump! - My wife and I have stayed at scores of B&B's because of their charm and high service levels. We have never been more disappointed until our stay at the Whitehall Mansion The place has been neglected and is basically a dump.
- Joy (8/5): - 1771 Mansion with modern plumbing and forced air heating. We loved the old Colonial building and decor but it might not be for everybody. Rooms were spacious as was dressing room. Bathroom adequate. A central sitting room with huge old fireplace (gas fire) was a comfy room for relaxing. Lighting was low. Huge old plank floors with braided rugs were not as clean as they could be. Found bits of debris here and there.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Whitehall mansion inn not available upon arrival, so we were accomodated at the residence inn, which was very nce.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We stayed in the historic inn and truly enjoyed the room with the wooden plank floors, four poster bed and fireplace! We found the room very clean, the staff extremely friendly and accommodating and you could tell that they enjoyed their employment.. The complimentary breakfast was good also!
- Rodney (10/5): Mystic mystery - It was fun with a little mystery
- Jim (8/5): Nice historic inn close to Mystic Seaport - Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was decorated in keeping with a 1771 home/inn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kind of a neat experience, being such an old building, but on the bigger hotel property and near all amenities. Not for everyone, but if you like old colonial houses, it can’t be beat.
- Steve (6/5): Bait & Switch - Quaint antique B&B-like rooming house on web turns into an antique house with no staff or functioning coffee service at the end of a Radisson hotel parking lot to which it is obviously affiliated. Room was on second floor and was ice cold upon entry. i.e 55 ish degrees. Heat worked fortunately. No wood for fireplace, no cups for tap water. Breakfast in the main hotel was ok.
- Kevin (8/5): Excellent service - Over all great experience, we did have a minor mishap with our room. Technically difficulties with our heat, however staff was on top of it and made sure the stay was excellent. We have no complaints.
- Verified traveler (8/5): No ghosts! - Great room but needs some TLC. Clean the curtains!!!! Jacuzzi was great and so was the fireplace. Will come again. Stayed in the Betsy Parlour.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Charming room. Especially loved the fireplace and the canopy bed.
- John (10/5): Quick getaway -
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Whitehall Mansion Inn. Understand it is a very old building built in 1771, and we expected that old charm. The staff at the Marriott welcomed us and served our every need during our stay with a buffet breakfast and dinner, a full bottle of wine during check in and even logs on request for our in room fireplace. While the weather was cold with light snow we had a great time and will surely return for again roll back to old times.
- Nicole (10/5): Great experience again!! - Another great stay at The Whitehall Mansion. If you enjoy old world charm and hotels with character, this is the place for you.
- Pam (8/5): Quaint and unique - A nice experience - different from the typical big hotel rooms. The room comes with all the necessities and a bottle of wine, a nice touch. My only negative was the mattress was very old and sagged in the middle.
- christine (8/5): Liked it a lot! - Enjoyed the stay. Got a complimentary bottle of wine and free breakfast. Absolutely loved the fireplace in the room. Disappointed there was no hair dryer as most hotel rooms have but otherwise it was a great room !
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was okay-not great.
What was disappointing was the lack of a tub plug which meant we couldn't use the Jacuzzi. I could have called the desk but chose not to because it was late and I didn't want to deal with it
- Linda (6/5): Deceiving location poor service and maintenance. - Picture is deceiving, you think you are booking a cute inn in quite garden area, when it's located in the parking lot of a hotel, right off the higway and on the main road. The building was really cute, just wish the service and up keep was as nice. Walked into the common room, empty coffee pot, empty dish with plastic wrap pullles off, guess cookies were to be there. As for the coffee, after looking in cabinets found cups package of cofffee to make a large pot of coffee as per directions. The air conditioner heating unit outside of our friends room was so loud the couldn't sleep. The building was lovely rooms were large, maintenance was horrible. You have to check in at the hotel, surprise
