Guest Reviews
- Sonya (9/5): A restorative stay after a long flight. - I had a great stay after a long flight from Melbourne, before taking a morning flight to Nagoya. I arrived in the evening - a taxi from Narita station is only 600 yen -just in time for a very delicious dinner and I was able to take a bath. The ryokan is located opposite the temple so I was pleasantly woken by the sound of the monks’ prayers and drums. I was able to take a short walk and visit the temple before the shojin ryori ( Buddhist vegetarian) breakfast, which was delicious and beautifully presented. Alas it was time to take the shuttle back to the station!
- wenbo (10/5): -
- Thiago (10/5): - How well preserved are the traditions, aligned with the city of Narita.
It is also extremely well located just in front of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple.
- lino (10/5): True Japanese hospitality - The staff were amazing and the hotel made us feel like we were really in Japan Everything was fantastic
- Tracy (10/5): Was very impressed with this hotel - Very traditional hotel, met all my expectations. Had the traditional breakfast and supper, recommended. Room was very large based off other hotels we had stayed at. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Hotel is right across street from temple. Just to note the beds are at floor level, which is what I expected.
- Tamara (10/5): Just great - Even it was raining it was great to stay so close to history
- Donald (10/5): -
- Giancarlo (10/5): - Tutto
- Jonathan (9/5): - I really liked how welcoming the staff was. Even though I was struggling through it with broken Japanese, the staff was very polite and tried their best with English. The dinner and breakfast was amazing as well. I noticed some small red dots on my leg after staying here. Maybe it was stress from walking too much but I'm not too much. Maybe I was allergic to the clothing or something.

- Stephanie (10/5): - Amazing location right outside the Narita temple. Reasonable walking distance from the train station (15 minutes). The dinner and vegetarian breakfast were amazing. Staff members were super helpful. I really enjoyed my stay here - it was a unique experience. Very relaxing before my flight back home.
- Paula (9/5): Great start to a trip, avoiding Tokyo and airport lodging - Lovely big room facing the temple complex. Delicious feast for dinner served in our room. Staff was super kind. Sleeping the first night after our arrival on the futon felt quite hard. We added an extra futon to our beds.

- Simone (9/5): - Great location
A great vegetarian breakfast was served in our room by one of the lovely staff members.
- Ron (9/5): - Fantastic location across from the Temple complex. Excellent Japanese breakfast. Nothing comes to mind.
- Tracy (9/5): Charming authentic Japanese inn. Would recommend - The location was amazing. Our room overlooked the temple. There are lots of quaint shops close to hotel. Loved the authentic Japanese feel of hotel. Tatami mats and shoji screens and futon beds. We had supped included and it was fantastic, many wonderful courses that were traditional Japanese fare. The onsen was a relaxing way to end our long day. The room was a bit dated and could use a refresh. For example, the fridge was yellowed and looked dirty on the outside, the foam cushioning of the seats of the chairs in the seating area was worn. The fabric was fine just the cushion needs replacing. The towels were very thin. The bathroom fan, in the sink room, was completely full of dust.
- Cheng Wen (10/5): -
- Cheng Wen (10/5): -
- Kelly (9/5): We had an excellent traditional stay and meal. Nice onsen as well - Amazing location next to Naritasan Temple. Nice street for shopping Could not hold luggage after check out
- Rodney (6/5): Comfortable - If you are travelling with 1 or more people and not far away from the airport. This is the must experience. Due to many things like how it is center to Naritasando and the temple view is just truly stunning. Nothing much to complain but I was hoping the meal is included to the booking and not a add on. However, due to wonderful service by staff and amenities including the Onsen which is super relaxing after a long travel (North America).
- Valorie (10/5): - This ryokan is directly across from the temple in Narita. Such an authentic place to stay near the airport. The kaiseki meal was really delicious.
- Huey Hoon (7/5): The onsen stay was a pleasant experience. The room was very clean and spacious, which made the stay - Onsen. nothing
- kim (8/5): Great hotel right next to the temple and the village was authentic - We loved our first experience at an onsen and the location was excellent Nothing
- Robelle (10/5): I’d definitely stay again! - Loved the cultural significance and history. Staff were very kind and accommodating. Not for me, but using a public bath was difficult for a couple of people in my party.
- Diane (10/5): An amazingly original Japanese experience - This beautiful family owned Japanese Honten was exceptional in every way.
The wonderful staff and amazing view of The Temple from our room. The onsen, the breakfast wow Nothing to dislike
- Norbert (10/5): Geweldig. - Het personeel, kamers en de locatie. De bedden. Maar dat wisten we.
- Carolyn (10/5): Traditional accom, welcoming staff, amazing location - Loved my traditional room (a step back in time), the view of the temple across the street, the welcoming staff & the onsen that felt like my own private soaking area (it is smaller but I had it to myself the three times I went to it). I went to the 5:30am goma ceremony which was a really unique experience. The proximity of the temple to Wakamatsu allowed for this easily. Wakamatsu staff was so helpful in arranging late check out (reasonable fee), luggage storage, and a taxi upon my departure. I loved Narita as a last stop & enjoying some shopping on the street where Wakamatsu is without the crowds. Highly recommend! Veg breakfast was a treat too! Cig smell by the interior smoking area as you come up the steps was the only thing I felt could change. Luckily the rooms and other areas did not smell like that :)
- Aida Yuan (10/5): -
- Katarzyna (9/5): -
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Helen (8/5): - Location Musty smell
- Donna Fay (9/5): I’ll be back & will request same deluded - Authentic Ryokan opposite Narita Temple We preferred the full vegetarian breakfast over the other option
- Rita (8/5): -
- JINYOUNG (9/5): -
- Mike (9/5): Fun experience in a traditional Japanese Inn for our family of 5 adults on our first night of visiting Japan before head - Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, authentic ryokan experience, food, temple across the street.
- Daichi (10/5): -
- Leisha (8/5): stunning location -
- Troy (8/5): Lovely staff, comfortable room , convenient - Very convenient, huge temple & gardens across the road
- Jeremy (9/5): Traditional ryokan, outstanding dining, onsen, great location. - Older ryokan, with tatami rooms and shared onsen. Outstanding kaiseki set meal dinner and breakfast. Splendid location, directly across the road from Narita-san temple with a beautiful park: open 24 hours, great for a jet-lag-clearing wander. They're careful to explain that a ryokan is not a hotel, and you shouldn't expect the same flexibility and "customer is always right" attitude: meals are at set times, menus are fixed, you should fit in. It is a grand old lady, and has perhaps seen better days.
- Teah (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your honten. Everything—from the ambiance and the rooms to the exceptional service—is clearly designed to ensure every guest leaves with a positive experience.
The Kaiseki meals were truly pieces of art and delicious, and the view from our room was breathtaking, especially at sunrise. Staying at your honten made us feel like we were part of a centuries-long history and tradition.
Our time in Narita and at Wakamatsu Honten was the most memorable experience of our entire trip to Japan. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.
- fortunato (9/5): - The staff was super friendly and polite, the location is wonderful
- Nadine (10/5): -
- Livian (10/5): -
- Ingram-Noel (10/5): Took my breath away, so peaceful - I absolutely loved this property. The service was excellence and the experience was amazing. It was directly in front of the temple, which was mind blowing. The town was surprisingly lively and the people are really friendly. My favorite part of my trip. I expected the onsen to be a bit bigger
- SIU KUEN EVA (9/5): - The staffs are so gentle and friendly! Difficult to find something bad!
- Aliandra (8/5): Nice - It felt authentic and loved the phamplet about its history. Complimentary cookie was a nice touch. Sleeping was comfortable. Free to use umbrellas that felt EXPENSIVE. Very nice service from the staff. They can hold your luggage if you arrive too early. Your luggage gets delivered to your room if it gets ready earlier than you arrive back, what a nice touch. The look out of our room looked absolutely stunning though Temple has priests doing a ritual at 5/6am with drums. Temple also has a loud speaker repeating talk early in the morning. Transport is difficult to airport. Those all are outside factors, hotel itself was super
- Alicia (10/5): - First time staying in a ryokan, and also our first night in Japan. What an amazing experience to kick off our trip. Loved that they made a little information sheet for us at checkin, as ryokans are different from staying in a normal hotel. Dinner was absolutely crazy, and we enjoyed trying all of the interesting traditional Japanese dishes. Breakfast was really good, too. Location couldn't be better. We woke up to amazing views of the temple directly across the street. They even drove us to the station at checkout. Onsen was so relaxing, and I snuck back down there in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep from jet lag. Everything was perfect
- Rhonda (10/5): -
- Pei san (10/5): Clean comfortable and conveniently located Ryokan - Conveniently located in The historical town
Traditional Ryokan that is well maintained
Very comfortable place Nil
- TOSHIHIDE (8/5): -
- Aleksandra (10/5): I cannot recommend this ryokan enough! - This was our first stay after landing in Japan. First of all - the location! It's on a charming, calm, street, which look like something you'd expact to see in old history books, with a beautiful temple right across the street. Anything one might need to find is within a 10min walking distance.
The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. If you're concerned about ryokan etiquette, fret not, everything got explained to us upon check in. We also received the same instructions in writing.
The room was spacious, tasteful and clean, with everything one might need for hygene provided. We loved the yukata and futon, as well as the view of the temple.
Any anxiety we had about being so far from home melted away here. Accomodations wise, it was, by far, the coziest experience we had in Japan.
- Qian (10/5): - Been coming here for ten years and it gets ever better. The hotel is in an great location with ready access to restaurants and points of interest, such as tbe beautiful Narita temple across the street. Nothing.
- Brad (10/5): -
- Felix (9/5): Great stay for a couple days in Narita, really great location however be warned that there aren’t many restaurants open - Traditional room, friendly staff, amazing breakfast, onsen really lovely No shower in room, but not an issue with onsen
- Cynthia (8/5): - It’s historical aspect and location. The furnishings are abit worn.
- Sarah (10/5): I always unwind here after flying into Narita. - Super cozy, great facilities, across from Naritasan Temple, next to some neat shops. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
- Wendy (10/5): -

- Christopher (10/5): -
- Alexandra (9/5): Wonderful experience!! - Great location! Super clean N/A
- Adam (10/5): -
- Adam (10/5): A wonderful relaxing start to our Japan adventure. - This is an excellent first stop in Japan. It is a 15 min taxi from Narita (4300 yen). It is a very easy place to learn the how to’s of Ryokan, Onsen, Kaiseki meals, and temple/shrine visits that will be valuable throughout your Japan adventure. Great neighborhood. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants while also being very quiet in the evenings.
- Mariano (10/5): Excelente - Todo Nada
- Doln (9/5): -
- Kimberly (10/5): A tranquil gem and perfect place to land. - The perfect way to land in Japan! We had 2 wonderful nights in this Ryokan. This is not a flashy modern space. Think wabi-sabi. It is a little worn, simple, cared for, loved. Very traditional. The staff were unbelievably nice and welcoming. The Yukatas, furnished, fun to wear. We took advantage of the onsen. While not a natural hot spring, it was hot hot and open 24/7. Given our jet lag, this was a definite advantage.
Our room was quiet and larger than expected. The futon mats and comforter, surprisingly comfy and cozy. Each room has a small fridge, safe, slippers, toothbrush provided.
What makes this really special is that in the old part of Narita right across from a magnificent temple. We went to a Buddhist fire ceremony, which starts at 6 am. It was powerful. A must experience. This is not a ‘show’ but a religious event …. Chanting, drums, bells, fire. Very welcoming if you are respectful. Indeed I was invited, as the only non- Japanese that morning, to join the line of worshippers being blessed. It was truly something.
One other night, not on the tourist map, is the calligraphy museum in the park. Again, a must see.
The hotel is along a street where there are small shops aplenty. In all, we are so happy we stayed here.
We also found it easy to get to Tokyo after our stay. There is a direct train to Tokyo main station. What a contrast between Narita train station (small, quiet) and Tokyo ( bustling madness). Loved the whole thing.
- Mark (8/5): -
- Kimberly (10/5): -
- Robert (9/5): - Staff were amazing, particularly Somita who was lovely. Futon beds are very firm, not great if you have back or shoulder issues.
- Olivian (10/5): Great stay in a traditional ryokan. - Very convenient way to wrap up our Japan trip by staying 2 nights at Wakamatsu Honten. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are definitely traditional ryokan style, do not expect Western rooms. Good English instructions provided to help guests understand local customes. Staff can take out and put away the futons if desired. Onsen has 6 seats for each gender; no cold plunge or sauna. Very clean. We used the onsen 6 times and 2 days and never saw anybody else there, so it was like our private onsen for the stay. Location very convenient. Naratisan Park and Buddhist Temple is literally across the street. Narita JR has Lawson, FamilyMart, and lots of restaurants about 15-20 minutes walk. Not many breakfast spots open nearby the hotel but the Aeon mall is a 10-15 min walk away, opens at 9. Grocery store MaxValue is excellent and there is good shopping. Easy to leave most of our shopping for these last two days, including prescription glasses, sports equipment, gifts, and luggage. Cab ride to Narita was Y3500 from around the corner. Highly recommended overall.
- Sarie (10/5): Wonderful - Very central Pajamas not inside the room
- Joanna (10/5): Perfect first night in Japan! - perfect location, clean, nice staff none
- Karsten (10/5): - Sehr freundliches Personal. Richtig heisse Therme. Vielfältiges lokales Frühstück.
- Andrea (10/5): - Lovely inn with tradition Japanese rooms and meals directly across from the temple and at the end of a cute street of shops and restaurants. Our family enjoyed experiencing Japanese culture with kaiseki for dinner and a night of sleeping on futons on tatami mats. Some of us were woken up early by chanting and drums coming from the temple across the road. This was a great place to stay for our first night in Japan, rather than heading directly into Tokyo.
- Michaela (10/5): Immersive - What a wonderful experience in all ways…the location, the food, the staff! So peaceful!
- chihming (10/5): -
