- Wayne (10/5): - The hotel is in a great location for walking and visiting the National Trust - Acorn Bank.
Staff were very friendly.
We had breakfast and an evening meal both were exceptionally good.
I have stayed at hotels before that say they are dog friendly but when you get there, your dog isn't allowed anywhere, this hotel is truly dog friendly, there is a surcharge but I do not mind paying it when they make your dog welcome.
Thank you to everyone at the hotel, you are doing a great job. Everything was great
- Thomas (10/5): Truly relaxing - Fabulous stay. Love no TV and a real effort to look after there guests wether on two or four legs Nothing
- Linda (7/5): Ok for a night - Located in a lovely village. Small bar/eating area but lovely lounge area. Rooms ok with nice showers. No TV in room which did say that on their own website but not in booking.com information. Menu was not very big for dinner and they wouldn’t substitute anything ie chips for fondant potato. Breakfast nice but slow service only one poor girl for nine rooms and all the guests came at once.
- Lesley (9/5): -
- Susan (10/5): A great place for an overnight stay - Breakfast was excellent with items cooked fresh to order Nothing
- Ruth (9/5): -
- Susan (8/5): Friendly traditional country inn - Welcoming and helpful staff. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Chatting with the locals in the bar. Tasty evening meal and good breakfast. Large comfy bed. Pretty village location was perfect for an overnight stop just off the A66. Minor plumbing issue - bath tap constantly running and unable to turn it off. However when we mentioned it to staff they did offer us another room AND gave us free drinks. We didn’t take the other room as it was smaller, but managed to muffle the sound of running water by putting a rolled up towel at base of bathroom door which solved the noise issue at night.
Need to call a plumber!

- susan (8/5): Friendly ,well located pub with rooms very near A66 - This is a really welcoming and friendly place. Bar and sitting areas were really cosy and comfortable Lovely location. Good walking around the village The room was rather cold and it wasn’t made clear that in order to have the room serviced, I would need to ask.

- Stephen (10/5): Left with a smile on my face and a great breakfast under my belt. - Great position, quiet and safe. Great value and have already recommended it to my friends and family. Nothing to complain about, a good northern pub with helpful staff.

- Alan (9/5): - Really nice hotel , spotless and a great breakfast
- Janet (9/5): Great place - Close to where I needed to be. Nice food in the pub clean and warm. Staff welcoming. Not an issue for me but no TV in the room.
- Debbie (7/5): Good location for heading up to Glasgow & friendly staff - The staff were very friendly Very little atmosphere, food was average & rooms a bit shabby but clean

- Hannah (10/5): Amazing stay!! - We booked this at the last minute for New Year’s Eve and we absolutely loved it. So cosy, clean and welcoming and the staff were excellent. We will definitely be back, thank you!
- Jonathan (10/5): Beautiful country pub hotel - We stayed here because we were stuck in traffic after having already been on the road for 11 hours so didn't know a thing about it. We were so pleasantly surprised. Our 2yr old son was free, the staff were so friendly, the hotel had a gorgeously decorated homely feel, the rooms were ample, the bathrooms had modern fittings and were lovely and warm, and breakfast was included! We didn't have a thing to complain about except a slightly noisy extractor fan. Nothing, it was a beautiful little hotel and we would stay here again and again.
- Caireen (10/5): We'll be back again soon - This hotel has become a little stop over treat on the long journeys we take to Scotland. Its welcoming, comfortable and has great food. We arrive as weary travelers and leave refreshed. A little haven just off the M6!
- STEVEN (9/5): We will be stopping here on our future trips to Scotland. The food was superb, staff funny but attentive. Bedroom and be - Location was perfect for us driving back to London from the highlands.
Staff were friendly and made us feel at home as soon as we stepped through the door. Nothing.
- may davies (10/5): -
- Angela (8/5): Would stay again - Very friendly, food very good, bed comfortable No tv in room
Bar was cold due to slow self closing door
- Waites (9/5): - Good location. Minutes off the M6. Lovely clean room and a great breakfast 😋 👌
- Sikander (10/5): - Freindly and helpfully. Very relaxed atmosphere in a lovely peaceful village. Thanks very much
- Maria (10/5): Excellent room, food great and warm welcome by the staff - Welcoming staff, room was pleasant with large comfortable beds and en-suite shower, plus’s dog bowls and bed for our pet. Breakfast was excellent and also ate in the pub on the evening, food was really lovely. Could hear the man in the room next door snoring
- Hannah (9/5): - Staff were great, friendly and really accommodating to us and our 10month old baby.
- Dominic (9/5): -
- Mar (6/5): Ok - Friendly , cosy Portions too big, coffee at breakfast horrible.

- Victoria (8/5): Great location; spotlessly clean, comfortable room; excellent food ( both diner & breakfast)! - The room was spotless, comfortable and beautifully appointed. We arrived in the evening and enjoyed an excellent dinner. Really good food - fresh contemporary bistro pub cuisine beautifully prepared.
Breakfast was again cooked to order - good solid food, good ingredients, no pretention.
The area was perfect for a morning walk before a long drive drive south. To be honest, couldn't fault it. The shabby chic furniture vibe was comfortable and we would definitely come again.
- gilles (10/5): Très très confortable et reposant - Ambiance très cosy
Accueil sympa
Tout le monde a l’écoute
Très aimable et agréable et respectueux
Restauration au top avec ingrédients de proximité Rien
- Green (10/5): Kind staff and the hugest comfortable beds. - Clean. Huge comfortable beds. Good breakfast. Staff excellent. I’d go as far to say they were some of the kindest people who have looked after us. Very relaxed.
- jeremy (10/5): -
- bevlar (1/5): - Area location. Place its self No tv in rooms. Breakfast was terrible
- Mhairi (9/5): -

- Matthew (10/5): Lovely weekend, in a lovely pub! - The staff were so friendly and helpful.
The breakfast offering was great - really tasty!
Such a lovely building and loved the decor.
The shower was amazing. I’d have loved a TV in the room, but the WiFi was great an good enough to support streaming on to a phone or laptop.
I’d have loved slightly fluffier pillows - these may have been available if I had asked but it wasn’t a problem. Still had two great nights sleep.
- Sharon (10/5): - The staff were really lovely and nothing a problem. Ordered taxis, changed the breakfast time to suit us as we woke early and wanted to get on with the day.
Food was amazing recoccomend the pie! Breakfast was lovely Nothing
- geoffrey (8/5): Nice friendly place with very helpful staff - Location and friendliness of the staff
Fabulous breakfast Nothing of note
- Ann (9/5): would be happy to go back - the food was delicious and good value. Service was friendly. the room was quiet room was a little cramped -due to the enormous bed!
- Joshua (10/5): Amazing food, staff, and pub - Staff, food, everything Nothing
- Gwen (10/5): - Good centre for visiting the area.
- Alicia (10/5): Lovely stay - It was a really nice vibe when we arrived, the hotel is traditional with a modern twist. The rooms were clean and spacious. We went to a wedding at holesfoot and it was ideal as it wasnt too far away. Would definitely recommend.
- Paul (9/5): Great spot for a short break in Cumbria. - Comfortable and well appointed, quiet location in a typical Cumbrian village.
- Joshua (10/5): Awesome food, great staff, fantastic rooms and brilliant beer - Very well presented, great staff and the food is unbelievable… That I can’t stay there all the time and have to go home. :(
- Francois (8/5): - Great staff good food great stop gor us during busy business trip
- Amanda (10/5): -
- lorraine (9/5): Lovely little pub - we arrived during storm Amy after a very stressful journey. Such a warm welcome with great food :)
Very dog friendly
Very comfortable All great missed having tv but not really a problem
- Alison (10/5): A great night during Storm Amy! - Excellent atmosphere- very friendly towards dog- was very wet when we got there but there was a dog towel in hallway and dog bed in the room . Room very clean and unfussy. Hotel itself has a lovely comfortable cosy feel about it. Staff very attentive and food v good too! Would recommend!
- lee (4/5): - The food was nice on quite a limited menu and priced high.
Breakfast was good. However, for the price of your stay, they could put a decent coffee on as it came out of dispensing thermos flask Kept up the 1st night by an air locked radiator in my room. When I showed them the video they actually gave me a bleed key to bleed the radiator myself.
- Graham (10/5): - Superb for an overnight stay on our way from Scotland to the south coast. Liked the large and recently refurbished room. The public areas were spacious and decorated well also. Friendly and helpful hotel staff.
- Simon (10/5): -
- John (9/5): - Excellent all round. Friendly staff. Good food, comfortable beds. Low ceilings!
- Katherine (10/5): - The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is in a beautiful village with pretty walks for the dog. The hotel is extremely dog friendly and the food is excellent. Really good place to break the journey south.
- Julian (10/5): Great Cumbrian pub - Friendly staff. Good food. Nice building. Good parking
- William (8/5): A pleasant overnight stay - We had a pleasant overnight stay on our way home from Scotland. The room was fine, very clean and well presented. There was no TV but we didn't need it.
The bathroom had an easy access walk-in shower which was good for anyone with disabilities. However, we believe that all the rooms were accessed by a short but steep flight of stairs which were not easy for a disabled customer.
Dinner was very good from a reasonably good menu.
- Moira (8/5): -
- jill (9/5): Definitely stay again if in the area 100% recommend - Great location , lovely rooms . Great breakfast and lovely staff . Stumbled on bingo night and won a prize 👍🏻👍🏻 Nothing
- Paul (8/5): -
- Ed (10/5): -
- Steve (9/5): - Lovely setting, very friendly staff, great food, lovely room. My only gripe was that there wasn't a TV in the room.
- Lynn (10/5): - Lovely smallish independent hotel in a beautiful village setting. Spacious, comfortable room with good bathroom. Nice, local toiletries. Fantastic cooked breakfast included. Atmospheric bar restaurant.
- Karen (8/5): - The food was wonderful - had the best dessert I've ever tasted in a restaurant.
- Daria (9/5): Great place to stay for a night - Friendly staff, comfortable big bed, nice shower, good food in the pub restaurant. Was a good place for us to stay a night on the way to Scotland from London. No lift (but that’s normal in such buildings).
There were a few annoying flies at our table in the restaurant during dinner.
The choice of breakfast food could have been a big bigger and the coffee a bit better, but that’s being very picky.
In general a very good place to stay.
- Chris (9/5): Great stopover on the way to/from Scotland - Relaxed bar/restaurant. Good food in the evening and a good hearty breakfast. A great spot to sleepover on our journey South from Northern Scotland. Breakfast coffee could have been better. Otherwise all was good.
- Stephen (8/5): - The property was clean and comfortable.Breakfast was of good quality and nicely cooked.
Only small criticism I have that their wasn't a TV in the room.
- Sindhuja (10/5): - Excellent stay. Surprised it was only 2 and a half star. Room was excellent and clean. All staff were so nice but a special shout out to Lauren (I hope I spelt that right) who was on her feet working and tidying from late at night and up working first thing in the morning. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and was a very nice lady to talk to always making sure we were settled and happy, and we only stayed for one night sadly. We will definitely come back soon.
- Wendy (9/5): Great stopover from Scotland, Temple Sowerby is a lovely village. - Great breakfast, well cooked with good choices. Coffee excellent.
We had an evening meal in the pub, good food and beer.
- Mairi (8/5): A lovely comfortable hotel - The Kings Arms was near our main route but in a quiet village. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room and bathroom were very clean. The bed was very comfortable and there were considerate touches eg. a little bottle of skimmed milk and a couple of sachets of oat milk as well as the usual tea and coffee. There was a socket conveniently below a mirror so I was able to dry and style my hair without any problem. The only criticism was that our room was above the lounge and we were subjected to loud singing and playing for over 3 hours. It was not possible to sleep until it stopped.
- Angela (8/5): Very good but could have been better with a few simple tweaks - The location
And the food
And the ambiance Bedroom far too hot and we were told twice that no fans were available
Also no drawer space at all and no hairdryer
- Rita (9/5): - Friendly staff very welcoming. Easy to park. Room was spotless & comfy with nice toiletries, coffee, tea, biscuits, jar sweets. We ate in dining room & friends living locally joined us. They were a bit late but it wasn't a problem. Food was delicious. No hangers in room but only staying 1 night so no problem.
- Greg (10/5): Loved the atmosphere and the small village location. - Great ambiance in lovely village.
- Christopher (10/5): - Excellent. Breakfast was superb and room / bed very comfortable.
Will be back !
- Angela (10/5): - To attend a friends birthday party
- Kara (10/5): Great pub - Amazing pub, great food, lovely comfy rooms and friendly staff
- Patrick (10/5): An excellent stay with wonderfully attentive staff -
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely quiet property. Staff are really pleasant and helpful. Set in a lovely quaint village. Great location for exploring the North Lake District.
- Christopher (9/5): Great country hotel and restaurant. - Really nice staff. Quite a big room. A lovely location. A good bar and an excellent restaurant. We were surprised there were no TVs in the rooms.
- Vikki (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful hotel, so relaxing, lovely decor..Nicole the Manager so attentive and friendly and all other staff, friendly, polite..the food was exceptional credit to the chef. Very dog friendly, dog bed, water/food bowls, treats and poo bags provided amazing. Will definitely be returning for an overnight stay...😃
- Penny (9/5): Superb -
- JOHN (8/5): - Pretty old Inn with excellent, attentive staff
- Richard (10/5): Amazing - Beautiful building and the decor was very nice
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Lesley (8/5): Very good - Lovely comfortable room. Large bed and good shower. Got to sleep very late due to noisy pub customers right below outside our room. Really spoilt our stay as we were tired from a long hike. Not very sensible or considerate to put tables so close to residents rooms.
- Timothy (10/5): Very comfy bed as the main reason for my visit was to break journey and sleep! Food was great too👍 - Ideal stopover for trip from Inverness to Shropshire Nothing
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (10/5): - Wasn’t aware until shortly before our visit that we’d booked during the Appleby Horse Fair so following a Police advisory, they weren’t selling alcohol. Which was a shame as I like to drink local brewery beer when away, but we were allowed to bring our own bottles. In all other respects, our stay was amazing!
