Guest Reviews
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Caroline (10/5): Noureddene was fantastic and helpful and knowledgable and the perfect host. - Authentic traditional Nothing
- Solenne (7/5): - Personnel très serviable. Très bon emplacement
- Tanja (5/5): -
- brigitte (8/5): - L'emplacement est parfait. Proche parking.
- Walter gauthier (9/5): gerne wieder - lage war top , man war mittendrin
per auto schwer zu erreichen
frühstück gut , mit sehr freundlicher bedienung
zimmer mit sehr viel historischem stil - perfekt sauber nix
- Mikhail (10/5): Quiet & Comfortable Stay - We had an excellent stay at Villa De L’Ô! The staff was all very curious and kind and the property very clean and comfortable. The location was amazing, everything was very walkable and the villa in a quiet area. The rooms were great and spacious and the breakfast was awesome as well as the rooftop views. Their dinner recommendation was top notch & they secured a same day reservation at sunset for us! We would highly recommend this property for you stay. Everything was wonderful!
- Melissa (8/5): Great stay! - Lovely big room, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location. Nothing
- McCarthy (10/5): - An overall incredible stay. Location = Perfect. Staff = Friendly. Riad = BEAUTIFUL. I stayed in a Medina view room and it had high ceilings, beautiful beds, and a vintage feel. The roof could be renovated.
- Kim (7/5): - Fantastically friendly and helpful staff at reception especially !
- Ali (8/5): A beautiful stay overall, but unfortunately overshadowed by a lack of flexibility and understanding - Villa de l’O is a lovely boutique stay in the heart of Essaouira, with an excellent location close to the medina and the ocean. The rooms are elegant and comfortable, breakfast is fresh and delicious, and the terrace offers beautiful views — perfect for a relaxing stay. While the property itself is lovely, I was quite disappointed with how our situation was handled. We had booked two nights through Booking.com, but due to an unexpected urgency, we had to cancel the second night at the last minute.
We clearly explained our situation to the hotel, however, no gesture was made — no refund or even a partial discount was offered. What was especially frustrating is that the room was then reopened and listed again on Booking.com to be sold to another guest.
Unfortunately, this lack of flexibility and understanding left a negative impression.
- Carla RENEE (9/5): - Breakfast was great No where to put luggage in room.
- Lena (9/5): -
- Christian (9/5): parfait - cadre magnifique. Très bon petit déjeuner
- Sally (9/5): Just Pefect! - Location is just perfect! Just inside the town walls to explore the Souks and restaurants and across the road from the beach. Staff were exceptionally friendly and very helpful.
Our room (Opium) over looked the beach and was a beautiful size with a huge comfy bed. There was nothing not to like about staying at Villa de L’O
- Gerhard (5/5): - Sehr nettes Personal Maroder Zustand, Dachterasse katastrophal
- Marissa (8/5): Nice Hotel and friendly staff - At the side of the center in a very quiet street. The rooms are a bit dark
- Melanie (4/5): Disappointing - The location, shower, and breakfast were very good. The rooms were clean and I felt really safe. The decor was interesting and beautiful--there was character to the place. The staff didn’t exactly radiate warmth, helping us make a reservation or even a quick call seemed like a chore they’d rather avoid. The first thing that greets you inside is an unforgettable odor, something between baby carrots, barnyard, and, regrettably, vomit. Likely culprit: the oversized bird cage, which is as disheartening to look at as it is to smell. To make matters worse, the poor birds seem perpetually stressed thanks to cats wandering in and tormenting them.
A real soul suck. Not exactly the atmosphere I was hoping for for my first time in Morocco.
- Piotr (7/5): -
- Tommaso (7/5): Two beautiful nights in Essauira - The room was very nice, large, with two windows overlooking the sea plus one extra in the bathroom which was huge. The support was amicable and friendly but not very effective and prompt in supporting guests.
- Bénédicte (10/5): - Un personnel aux petits soins. Super petit dejeuner.
- Karim (4/5): - Location was excellent and rooms were also well decorated The hotel needs refreshing and maintenance … you can tell, there’s no director around. It’s too bad the hotel is not being looked after properly as it has a huge potential
- Gilli (5/5): Loved the location but the hotel needs love and an upgrade on every level - The location The property needs a major upgrade - it is a wonderful property but just needs some love and attention - no amenities in the rooms - had to ask for tissues - linen poor quality - towels ok - no black out blinds so very bright in the room all night - bed just ok nothing special - breakfasts just ok
- Guest (8/5): -
- henri (7/5): - Emplacement Un peu triste et sombre
Rapport qualité prix moyen
Valeur chambre 80€ pas 115€ payé
- Parker (9/5): Excellent staff & comfortabe. Great style - Good traditional Raid style hotel Nothing. All fine
- Esther (7/5): Gut gelegen, wenig Infrastruktur. Besondere Zimmer und Möbel und grosse Räume. - Freundliches Personal, Lage Frühstücksraum auf dem Dach. Kühler Wind, das war unangenehm. Leider kein Restaurant.
- claude (8/5): -
- Paul (7/5): -
- Laura (7/5): - Great location. Fab staff, views from roof terrace great. Good breakfast. Huge rooms. Comfortable. A lot of the building needs some tlc, some of the wood on the roof terrace was dangerously rotten. It would be great to have doors to the bathrooms instead of curtains.
- ea (10/5): - Hotellet var smukt i gennemført colonial stil. Velholdt, rent og duftende. Dejlig tagterrasse med udsigt over havet.
- Chad (9/5): We enjoyed our time here. - Classic styling, we had nice view of nearby beach. Bed was very comfortable. A nice sized breakfast was included. The only drawback at all was a mildew smell. Perhaps hard to avoid with so much wooden structure so near the beach.
- Marwa (10/5): -
- philippe (9/5): -
- Diana (10/5): - It was really beautiful, the location is perfect, breakfast delicious and staff really nice !
- HASSANE (8/5): -
- Leighski (5/5): Given the Riad’s age (18th century), the owner(s) need to know the Riad needs some ‘TLC’. - Staff are amazing, so helpful! 10 out of 10 for the staff. The location is just perfect. There is a good breakfast that is plenty (fresh fruit salad, bread, a pastry jams, a crepe, butter and foiled cheese spread, concentrated fruit juice with copious amounts of tea and coffee. There are also eggs cooked to your liking). The cleanliness overall is good too. The towels are thick and still look white. The bedding is just ‘ok’. Aircon works well as does the wifi. We did not use the TV. There is a hand wash and shower gel provided. Water temperature and its power is ‘sufficient’. We were given mint tea and a bottle of water on arrival for free. There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The shower hose would not stay in position. Curtains are not on their hooks that separate the bathroom to the bedroom. Also, we were really disappointed - what isn’t provided and misrepresented, as per the Riad’s description/advertised/photo gallery, are the following:
No mini bar, only a fridge but this does go to a decent temperature
No free coffee or tea (40 dírham for one tea and one coffee that is really not worth it).
No sun beds on the sun terrace (only two that are part of another room that you cannot use). We booked this Riad because of the sun beds on the terrace shown in the gallery photos!
There is a spa room but is no longer in use.
- Panagiotis (5/5): Historical, charming hotel that urgently needs some renovation - Extremely polite and helpful staff, eager to help. The hotel is practically a historic building, feeling a bit like a museum, with beautiful aesthetics, décor and charm. Great views both in the atrium and of the beach from the rooftop. Centrally located, easy to walk around town. The "historic" part is striking, particularly due to the smell and the overall state of the hotel... Unfortunately the room and common spaces don't score high on "cleanliness" and, even though we stayed in the suite, the beds/pillows were not comfortable; simply a very large room with a very large bathroom.
Still unsure if the establishment is completely neglected or not, but certainly is long overdue a renovation.
- Najib (8/5): Very good -
- Bouknadel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Modris (9/5): Superb -
- Meredith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (9/5): Nice authentic riad in a great location with delightful staff. - Top marks for the friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location in the Medina and nice view from a top floor room and rooftop, but note that people with limited mobility might find the stairs a bit of a struggle. Attention to one or two small details such as curtain hangings would further improve the place.
- Melanie (10/5): Amazing hotel within the old city of Essaouria - Amazing stay at Villa De L'O in Essaouria. The staff are SO helpful in arranging activities and dinners in the city and our room had a fantastic view over the whole beach and was beautifully furnished with bespoke antiques. The breakfast was also freshly made and substantial. Highly recommend for a great break inside the city walls of Essaouria!
- Christopher (8/5): One of the best locations in Essaouira - Great location, lovely big breakfast and friendly staff. Loved the terrace and views over the beach. Beds a bit hard and not a fan when toilet is open to room (behind curtain) as prefer separate bathroom.
- Graham (8/5): Very good -
- Ivan (6/5): 4 nights at Villa del'O - All the staff were lovely - friendly efficient & helpful. Noureddine did a fantastic job of front of house - always greeting us by name and providing lots of useful recommendations.
The building is fascinating architecturally and in terms of furnishings - we loved it.
The location is superb - just inside the walls of the medina - only a short stroll from beach, port or parking if you have come by car. The roof terrace - which should be one of hotel's real assets is a disgrace - all the furniture should have been thrown away years ago and the whole area is long overdue a refurbishment. Most guests during our stay did not use the roof terrace - the local gulls make more use of it - nesting there in one case. The current photos of the roof terrace on the website are completely disingenuous - we were looking forward to chilling up there and enjoying the views but in the end spent no time there at all. The photos should be taken down from the website until the area is refurbished.
- Brooke (10/5): Everything you desire in a Moroccan riad - Incredible stay (room, breakfast, riad itself and location) with incredible staff. I felt very taken care of as a female solo traveler — was given great recommendations, made to feel extremely comfortable (calling my hammam reservation to mention to give me good service), was helped several times by the folks working. Cannot recommend staying here enough: very beautiful and cozy room. 10/10 experience, I’ll certainly be coming back!
- Angela (10/5): Great stay in beautiful hotel - We were worried by a lack of recent Tripadvisor reviews and some comments about the property being a little run down, but this was not the case!
Beautiful hotel, wonderful old world decor, very light, lots of wood and plants.
We requested a room with an overhead shower, there wasn’t one available for the first night but we were given the option of three other rooms from our second night onwards. All the rooms we saw were uniquely decorated - all with different charms, it was hard to choose!
Great breakfast and incredibly helpful staff.
We loved sitting on the roof terrace after time in the city - a peaceful place to relax in the sun with incredible views over the Atlantic. The roof terrace was very peaceful but some of the furniture had seen better days. Perfectly functional but not quite like some of the pictures.
Some of the rooms only have curtains between bedroom and bathroom - this may not be everyone’s preference but plenty of private spaces to sit elsewhere if you need to give your roommate some space.
- Linda (9/5): Excellent - Very spacious and friendly riad. The manager was incredibly helpful and welcoming.
We were given an upgrade to a large room , and the bathroom was very spacious too.
Breakfast was good and it’s in a great location, close to a main gate but in a quiet side street.
Manager gave us some good recommendations for places to eat and see the sunsets.
We ended up staying longer than planned as we enjoyed it so much Nothing!
- Filipa (10/5): Classic riad in quiet central streets - The staff were very beautiful people. Always warm and giving in the best way they could. I wish them all the success and greatness of life.
The riad is simple, powerful and classy. It spoke of its history without being embellished to new boojy-ness of Essaouira. It felt cruel to wake up the night staff whenever we wanted to come back a bit later. Perhaps a different system can be placed.
And free the birds!!
- Vagjiani (2/5): Very poor -
- Alain (9/5): Nice location - Well located, spacieuse room, nice decoration Had to upgrade to a room with a window as rooms facing the inner courtyard are very damp and dark
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karren (6/5): Pleasant - Needs some updating. Staff helpful.
