- Rodnor (8/5): - Nkkhgy
- Charles (10/5): - The only thing I didn’t like. Bc there’s no restaurant at the hotel. After that. The hotel is fantastic

No Telephone , if you need something you have to go outside
Balcony slide Door , DON’T have a Lock .
Be aware Outside food Very expensive most of the time no good .
- Jean (8/5): - The property is very nice and located across the beach. However, there is no provision for transportation and there is no restaurant on site. Otherwise it would be one of the best hotels in Cap Haitien.
- Charlemise (4/5): - The staff were amazing. That’s about it .
- Carl Sherson (8/5): - Unique sunrise view!
- Hagard (10/5): - The property is good person, this is a first hotel i seem in cap Haitian, very nice ,they are treating people very well !
So Rival Hotel right now this is my favorite.
Respect for all over there
- Makenzy (2/5): - No A/C during the day only at 8:30 night to 5 am the staff are great friendly and respectful
- Arly (6/5): - There was no cameras in the hallway but its a beautiful hotel with a lot of sea breeze, there was no threat while i was staying there, staff were kind &respectful
- Nadine (6/5): - This is an amazing place, beautiful view of the ocean, very clean, staff went above and beyond to meet the guest (s) needs. My most dislike is: they did not have a good food options for the complimentary breakfast, like ( coffee, milk, condiments, warm bread, ect) the small little things that makes for a great breakfast. This writer is fully aware that such things may be difficult to obtain at times, a little extra effort is all that is being ask.
- Gerard (10/5): - The area is beautiful
- Jean (6/5): - It’s a very nice hotel by the beach but unfortunately there isn’t a restaurant on site and it’s a turn off. Otherwise it would be one of the top hotels in Cap Haitien. The ownership should strongly reconsider having a restaurant on site if they want to remain competitive and be one of the best destinations.
- Jessica (8/5): - The property is beautiful and right by the ocean. It is clean and the rooms are spotless and very comfortable. It is a hidden gem. Only thing, there is no lunch or dinner menu.
- Gerald (10/5): - Good but the cleaning could be much better for that amounts of money beside that nice place
- Herby (8/5): - The sea view is a plus.
- Hogla-Schim (4/5): - The service is very poor, breakfast was simple same breakfast everyday eggs and spaghetti with black Coffee and toast, they don’t provide water or milk. No fruit served at all. The workers were very friendly and helpful.
- Gabrielle (10/5): - I absolutely loved the view. I could see the water from my balcony and that was a lovely site. The staff was great and accommodating and the property is very clean.
As far as what I did not like, the road leading to the property needs to be improved. Otherwise, a great property and great staff.
- michael (8/5): - Beautiful view
- Philippe Victor (2/5): - When I arrived, there was no water in the shower. It had to be fixed.
the breakfast is VERY basic. There was no jam available for example. The eggs were served without any else on the plate, not even a slice of tomatoe.
Not to be recommended
- Ruth (4/5): Almost nice - Hotel property is nice but the road to get to it is terrible and the included breakfast needs very much improvement, not quite value for money, can improve to A1 with small twiks.
- Wanderer637496 (6/5): Great Views, But...... - Aesthetically beautiful and well-physically maintained. This hotel is designed for pure relaxation as it is located away from town at an adequate distance but not too far from downtown. Very large pool and is well situated.
PRO-
View from all parts of the hotel is breathtaking (Mountain and Ocean). The hotel is clean in all areas. The pool can use a more consistent cleaning.
Cons-
Breakfast is beyond lacking. Omelets most days. No deviation from the menu whatsoever. Shockingly being on an island and no fruits are provided with meals. If you asked for fruit, the staff gives you the same look like you are asking for the sky. They appear to have a strictness on everything. We requested lime juice 4 days in a row and the staff gives you the deer in the red light look. And that part was extremely frustrating.
WIFI in the room is non-existent, even when you are sitting in the balcony area. If you are in the dining room area, Wifi is good and that is basically it.
No way to communicate with staff if you need something. You practically have to leave your room and go search for staff.
Staffs have no decision-making power. Everything thing needs to be communicated with the owner.
No electric power in the room between 7-6 pm, therefore is no AC.
Transportation is extremely difficult after 7 pm to go downtown due to the location of the hotel. Transportation is extremely available if you are downtown and coming back to the hotel.
The beach is front of the hotel is filthy. Don't even think of going down there to swim or relax. The little sand area is loaded with trash (Plastic bottles, bags, and other things).
- eltha (6/5): Many Things Still Need to be Done - There's a lot of things need to be done. Although the staff are very polite and amazing there is still some things at the hotel that needs work. For example, there's no ac during the day time, they only serve breakfast and not any other meals. This was a beautiful looking hotel but it still needs a lot of work.
- Sandra (10/5): - Was great wonderful staff
- Dapheline (6/5): - I loved the view and how the staff cleaned the room every day. The staff were very attentive. I did not like that there was NO 24hr electricity (they only have electricity from 5PM-7:30AM: I had to shower & do my make up in the dark in the mornings), they gave the same breakfast every other day, and no restaurants at the hotel. There’s not a window in the room to bring in much sunlight.
- real (8/5): - Rien il as meme pas de couranr dans cette hotel alors oas eau chaude pour ce lavee
- jean b (6/5): - TV, internet is not stable. no fridg or microwave. Electricity is only at night which is not good. They should tried to give you the electricity at least on a full day , maybe on Sunday or Saturday. Next time I will try another place but overall I love the place and the staff and I will be back.
- Reginald (6/5): - Well Rival hotel is a quiet place, very cleaned space. Road to get there is a challenge. Employees are so kind. Breakfast ends at 9 AM and there is not flexibility on this so wake up early. There is no restaurant but you can order and have it delivered.
- jean b (8/5): - :00AM.Location is perfect. Electricity is bad for only 5PM to
- Sheeno (4/5): - This place have cheap bed, no electricity during the day. Electricity is comes on at 530 pm till 730 am.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Dirt road leading to the hotel is challenging during the day and flat out dangerous at night. The road is a bit isolated and is dark come night fall therefore safety and security become issues. Power was available only from 5pm to 7 Am during my stay, which means no AC during the day. The hotel offers beautiful views of the mountain and sea. Staff was courteous and made you feel welcome. I enjoyed free breakfast with excellent Haitian coffee. Hotel offers privacy and a nice pool.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The place is great! You have to drive through a horrible trash ridden Cap Hation to get there, which might turn some off. Ask for the boat ride to the belly beach, just a few minutes away and cheap! One of the prettiest beaches on earth. The staff is amazing, the hotel is away from the city with a spectacular location The staff was as good as you can find anywhere.
- Andy (2/5): - No good the service was very badly
Thanks no good no good
- Godofredo (6/5): - staff were nice. the pool is clean. the only problem was no electricity from 6 to 7 pm. We consider that because there was no fuel for sale around
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The great experience. It’s on a remote road. I enjoyed the stay the staff was accommodating. I had to ask for extra towels. Breakfast was amazing. It had 24 hour security. Only suggestion I have is if you need anything to grab it before you head to the hotel because there are not any shops nearby being that it’s on the water. I would stay there again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Rival hotel is a beautiful property right on the beach. Don't let the bumpy dirt road scare you. It's a very quiet relazing location where you can hear the ocean, and the pool is beautiful too. The beach is not clean, but we still walked on it.
- pablo (6/5): Strike of The sea - Great value clean were you can be to listen to the sea concert all day long.
One bump is the lack of personal, decent Restaurant and the Calvary road leading To their facility.
- moniquel140 (6/5): Monique L Jean - That was a very nice, clean, quiet and peace full place to stay but, they need improvement with the staff, the food, laundry and specialty when it's raining waters gets to your room. But other than that it's a very nice place to stay.
- Brett (10/5): Great Stay! - The hotel was clean, peaceful, and relaxing. Though the hotel is a mile down at the end of dirt road, it is gated with a security guard and right on the beach. The staff were professional and helpful. The electricity and AC worked consistently. Breakfast consisted of hot chocolate or coffee, juice, toast, and either spaghetti or an omelette. There is no restaurant onsite but there are a few good ones nearby closer to the city. The WiFi was strong and we had no problem using the Internet. We booked two different hotels for our stay but we loved this hotel so much that we cancelled our other reservation and stayed here all of our nights.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Waste of beauty - This i a pity for such a beautiful ,magnificent hotel to not have services; not even a real receptionist to welcome you. In the morning, I looked for an employee for about half an hour before I turned to the security guard to call one for me . breakfast :Very Poor.
- U7673RAbend (2/5): Careful!! - Let us start with the positive aspects: The view from the terrace is nice and the rooms are clean.
Unpleasant: The hotel is a bit difficult to find and the road is a little dangerous, but travels to Haiti tend to be a adventurous, anyway. However, there is no restaurant at the Hotel, so you are obliged to go up and down that road to find food in town, even during hours of darkness.
False promises: The website promises air-conditioning and WIFI. However, air-conditioning only works at night (you will find a notice in small print at the reception desk...once you have arrived) and the WIFI does not work in the rooms. WIFI only available at the bar and it is very slow. If you prefer to work in a silent environment and depend on Internet / Email, no chance you will be happy. More surprises in the morning: Cold shower! and no tea is served.
Unsafe: As for the security side of my room, you cannot lock the sliding doors and the lock for a rusty burgle bar door was not working, so my room was accessible from the outside at all times.
When my colleague and I tried to negotiate with the staff, we had to find out that the reception is usually abandoned. Once you find a member of staff, you will be baffled by their lack of ability to assit you. A phone call to a rather arrogant Directress was a sad highlight of our business trip.
To sum it up: If you lie to me on the Internet, don't be surprise to find a bad review.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice secluded hotel away from the city - Staff were very helpful and professional; breakfast delicious.
- Jooolz1976 (10/5): Great hotel in the chaos that is Cap Haitien! - We stumbled upon this hotel by accident while searching for another hotel. It worked out well as it is one that is recommended by Lonely Planet. It's tucked away at the end of the city and secured behind a gate. No restaurant but so glad they told ys to go to The Boulevard. Had an amazing evening at La Kay!
Stunning views of the water and the hotel itself is very clean. The staff were helpful and nice. Rooms were large with two comfy beds and great shower pressure! A very nice way to end our Haiti road trip! My only complaint is that breakfast was to be served at 7 AM and we waited around until 7:20 AM but we had to leave to catch a bus back to the Dominican Republic.
- WorldVoyager (8/5): One of the best places to stay in Cap-Haitien! - We were actually looking for a different hotel when we came across this one right at the end of the road. Perched up on the hill looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, the Rival Hotel is immaculately clean and quite well priced with a large assortment of big, spacious rooms to choose from. Lots of hot water in the big bathrooms and beds that are big and comfortable too. We felt very secure and safe, which is important in Cap. There isn't a restaurant for meals which is a shame - but Lakay is just down the road. We were told that there would be a continental breakfast but after waiting for 20 minutes no one morning no food arrived and we had to leave to catch our bus to the Dominican - that was my only complaint about this place.
- T3841VMjuliel (8/5): Great ocean view and big rooms, but bare minimum amenities - The hotel is located right on the beach so all rooms and the restaurant have a stunning view of the sea. The rooms are huge but since the hotel is located at the edge of Cap-Haitien and may not have much guests, pillows and sheets smell a bit dusty/moldy. The room I stayed in had a small kitchen, but I didn't use it as I only stayed two days and saw no need to prepare my own food. There aren't much amenities in the room, so bring all your own toiletries and drinking water. Water from the faucets taste a bit salty (probably due to close proximity to the sea). Staff are very nice. Internet is good depending on your location (the best connection I got was in the hotel restaurant). The hotel provides a delicious breakfast of fruits, omelette, coffee, juice, and toast but no other meals are available.
- PriscillaAlexis (8/5): Other than the price . . . - I'm shocked at the reviews that claim there are no attractions nearby. Besides the absolutely stunning views of the ocean, and the hugely popular public beach (Rival Beach) where you can people-watch and mingle with the locals, there are three forts. Two are passed on your way to the hotel, and include some really amazing cannons from at least the 1800s if not before. And then Picolette is right around the bend from the beach (away from town, and you do have to ford the water for about four steps at low tide. Don't get stuck over there when the tide comes in!) That fort is one of the most beautiful ruined forts in Haiti, with stunning views and photo ops.
Come on, people, you're in Haiti, one of the most un-westernized places on earth (there's not even a McDonald's anywhere in the country). Please don't act like you're going for a pampered trip to Orlando. You won't have the opportunity like this much longer. Enjoy the history and diversity.
As far as the roads, I find it ammusing that it's a complaint. How DID you get to Cap Haitien? The roads are not bad by Haitian standards, and no doubt will continue to improve. If you are afraid, get a Haitian to drive you. Promise, they won't "topple into the sea."
- habeshawit (4/5): Decent place but bad management!!! - The place is clean, staff is friendly but the owner is a terrible manager who doesn't understand the importance of customer service. I was in Cap-Haitian on a short term work assignment and stayed at Rival for about 4 months in one of the studio suite rooms featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an electric stove-top. However, dining and cooking utensils or iron and ironing board were not provided and the hotel management refused to supply these that my job was forced to buy the items for my use during my short stay. The room didn't have a convenient work-space with a a very weak Wi-Fi Internet connection that can be very frustrating. The room is also equipped with a wall mounted flat screen TV but with only with two channels tuned in to 'Encore Love' and 'Encore' movie channels as there is only one satellite TV receiver placed at the reception lobby and remotely controlled by the owner. So, forget about following the news while at Rival!
The rooms are also equipped with a through the wall air conditioner that is also controlled by the staff and is only turned on at around 6 p.m. at night to be turned off at 6 a.m.. If you are staying in your room during the daytime in the week-end then you're out of luck and can only be cooled by the ceiling fan as the AC will not be turned on until 6 p.m. or later. If power is out during the day, the owner had strictly instructed the staff not to turn on the on site generator in the day time!!!! You can imagine how terrible a stay in your room can turn out to be on a weekend during one of the several power outages. On the Upside, there is an on site laundry and a Fitness club. And I will have reiterate again, that despite all that the staff is absolutely great.
This hotel had a lot of potential if only it was properly managed. It's a pity!
- lisathelion (6/5): give it a try - I have been to haiti several times and have always stayed at the rival. The price is right and it is clean. But, what really brings me back is the nice and friendly staff . They really try to welcome you and to accomadate all your needs. The route to the rival is scary, with no guard rail for protection while driving there. But, once you relax and have a cold beer- YES COLD, IT IS WORTH THE DRIVE. I am venturing back this may and will request room 10. The view is beautiful, and breath taking.
- fred3116 (2/5): Far from everything - This was a bad adventure. The road to get there is scary because once you miss it you fall into the sea. No attractions nearby, you have to drive all the way back in the city.
My rooms had that cigarette smoking smell, or was it moist? The TV had only one channel and it had poor quality images, on a kind of laguage that was not for sure neither creole nor english nor spanish. To use your cell phone, you have to go allthe way to the restaurant which is on the top of the building, but you better talk out loud!!! Talking about restaurant, minimumservice. Almost 30 minutes wait to buy a coffee (not included in breakfast)...
The staff did try to be polite.
- BrettM617 (8/5): Thank you Rival. - The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. They tried to help us with our Creole language. Always a smile each and every morning. The rooms were very clean and the view from the dining area was outstanding. The coffee was great and the breakfast food was always well prepared. These folks did everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel.
The AC unit was a little loud.
