Guest Reviews
- Iscrya (8/5): Lovely stay - Very friendly staff, clean room, breakfast was lovely, comfy bed Room on the smaller side & stairs quite steep & narrow, but understandably so due to being a converted coach house
- Alvin (8/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - Friendly staff. Good rooms and facilities. Great breakfast.
- Alan O'Keeffe (9/5): - Everything, people very friendly and accommodating. Bed was too soft for me
- Morehead (7/5): very pleasant stay overall - Excellent reception and facilitated bike packing well local tomcat
- David (6/5): This place has the potential for being much better and more comfortable with sensitive thoughtful investment - Great location for our needs and very accessible to major urban roads and Motorways.
Liked the concept of the conversion that appears to have been undertaken several years ago.
Friendly and quietly attentive staff. It’s starkness and tiredness.
Both the toilet seat and the wash and basin were badly damaged.
There was no facility for properly hanging towels to dry.
The shower room was small and the shower cubicle was in need of attention to the ageing tiling
- Debbie (9/5): Very comfortable rooms and very good and updates and easy to contact the host - Very welcoming we were informed when we arrived that they have only taken over the premises in the last 8 months and gradually doing it up Tired hall way carpet but I understand that is all going to be sorted
- tanja (10/5): -
- Tania Sutton Hopwood (8/5): - Dog friendly. Nice food in large restaurant.
Querky building. Small room. Remote location.
- Rose (5/5): It served its purpose - The staff and the continental breakfast The shower was poor and the decor needed updating. Sink in room not in bathroom
- Feurer (10/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): A lovely stay in a rural location. - Such a lovely comfortable stay, very friendly and kind flexible staff to meet our needs and requirements. A really nice location with a reliable bus service, even on a Sunday. We felt at home and would definitely stay again.
- Gill (8/5): Comfortable for our short stay. Our dog was happy here. Staff were friendly. - Dog-friendly
Location good for us to visit relatives in Downend
Reasonable price
Clean towels and nice toiletries provided
Great cooked breakfast - as always!!
Quiet location. Decor was dated though clean and tidy
- diann (7/5): -
- Julia (7/5): Great location and price. Needs updating. Staff are helpful and breakfast was good - The location is great, it was very easy to access Bristol and the nearby motorways.
Breakfast was good and all staff were helpful This could be a really nice stay but everywhere is in need of upgrading. The decor is tired, doors look as though they have been broken into previously and repaired but not repainted. There is a mismatch of furniture, which just gave an impression of not being looked after, which is a real shame as it has the potential to be really nice.
- Laura (8/5): - Lovely characterful building. Cute garden / courtyard area. Great location, just a few minutes drive from UWE. Much better stay than the big, chain hotels. Would book again. The room was a little cold and the plug in heater in the room did not work. The bed was comfortable but quite noisy.

- Awale (7/5): -
- David (6/5): -
- De Beer (6/5): -
- Alison (5/5): The hotel suited my needs for somewhere to stay overnight - The reception was unmanned but the person on the contact telephone number was very responsive. The inner bedroom door handle was broken and that could have left me stuck inside the room. The hotel gave me a different room when I brought this to their attention
- Bilal (8/5): - Ideal for people visiting bath and sorroundings with easy access to eateries nearby
- Samantha (8/5): -
- Kartonero (10/5): - Nice,quiet place to stay,close to motorway and shop.
- Holly (3/5): Avoid at all costs - Location. Staff were fantastic from reception to kitchen. Can't fault their friendliness and politeness Bathroom dimly lit. Hallway carpet dirty and stained . First room we were offered stank of bad, drainage and furniture shabby. Offered another room which was clean and cosy but to the point of being cramped and was quite dark as window was at the bottom. Bed was rickety and creaked and mattress slopped down . Also only one pillow option which was so hard and thick impossible to sleep on without straining your neck. Breakfast was very poor quality and not everything was clean e.g that rack and floor. The whole place needs a serious refurbishment. Including stairs which you have to go up sideways as the treads are so narrow. Painted olive and dark brown with a dim light is uninviting and makes me wonder what dont they want me to see
- Philip (9/5): -
- aran (8/5): - The lady who does the breakfast in the morning
Very polite and happy and was very professional
The room was very cozy
- Liz (10/5): Fab would stop again Jayne is a credit to the b&b and does a good brekkie - Lovely location but I bit out of Bristol had to get taxis. Breakfast was amazing everything they you could think of having for your breakfast was there and Jayne who cooked it and stood chatting with us was amazing too. Credit to the b&b. Would 100pc stop again But out of Bristol but that’s not a negative as booked when I knew where it was - it’s undergoing renovation I believe so needs a lick of paint in th rooms but I don’t stop in b&bs to look at the paint.
- Nathan (7/5): - Friendly service, great breakfast options. Slept well in a comfortable bed. Good value overall. I would have scored higher overall but the place is going through a renovation phase. So understandable.
- Mykhaylo (3/5): Номера брудні - Номер грязний та не охайний. Номер грязний та неохайний
- Meakins (8/5): Great location, wonderful host - would stay again - Location was ideal for commuting to work. Super comfy bed and so peaceful at night. Hassan is a delightful host. Nothing is too much trouble. It’s currently undergoing renovations so I’m sure it’ll look amazing once finished
- Steve (7/5): Did what I expected for a work lodging - Local to the place of work and plenty of parking Creaky and noisy floorboards and fan
- Naomi (4/5): - Very pleasant host. There was mould in the fridge and the room smelled a bit smokey. There was also poor light in the room.
- Linda (4/5): No sleep because of bad bed.Very basic accommodation in need of TLC. - Lovely lady serving breakfast. Curtains very heavy and really did keep out the light. Lighting in bathroom was dreadful. Bed was hard and uncomfortable and only double not king size. Found a fluff covered sock by the side of the bed that the cleaners had missed.nowhere to hang up long things , only shelving.no extra pillows.Looked as if it all needed decorating. No hooks in bathroom to hang anything or shelf to put toiletries.
- Phil (9/5): Genuine care, spotless rooms – we extended three times - We travelled to Bristol to visit our loved one in a nearby nursing home. From the moment we arrived, The Coach House felt like a safe, welcoming haven during an emotional and difficult time.
Jane served breakfast each morning and is a huge asset, friendly, thoughtful and always delivering freshly cooked meals. Iza handled every booking change quickly and smoothly, making our stay as easy as possible. All staff were fantastic, including the cleaning team who kept the room spotless and greeted us warmly each day.
When our loved ones condition changed and he moved to end-of-life care, and, ultimately died, we had to extend our stay several times at short notice. Even when the B&B was fully booked, the owner called other local places on our behalf to secure a room nearby, going well beyond normal service. We always came back to the Coach House. This kindness, compassion and practical help made all the difference to us. The calm atmosphere, clean rooms and exceptional service meant we ended up extending three times and we're still here as I write this review for the foreseeable future. There was honestly nothing to fault. Everything was handled with genuine care, attention to detail and professionalism. Even when our circumstances changed unexpectedly and we needed support, the team responded with kindness and practical help. The room was clean and comfortable, the service consistent, and every member of staff went out of their way to make a difficult time easier for us. It’s rare to find a place where nothing feels like too much trouble, but that’s exactly what we experienced here.
- Martin (10/5): - Hosts and place Nothing
- Rose (6/5): Value for money - Location was great. It was a little bit small with dog as well
- Rachel (5/5): - The staff were friendly and there was a heater in the room which worked really well. The bathroom had a lot of mold in it. There was no coffee machine.
The mattress was very thin and quite uncomfortable.
- Ben (8/5): -
- Sue (7/5): comfortable stay for one night - room was fine, the grounds around the hotel are lovely and I think it would be a lovely place to stay in the spring and summer, making use of the terraces and courtyard. Not so useful in the midst of a wet and windy winter! the room was very cramped and the ensuite shower and loo was poor and very cold
- Joby (7/5): -
- Ratna Lestari (6/5): -
- KENRICK (8/5): - Staff Heating not on in bathroom
- Vivanne (7/5): Good value for money - Great selection for breakfast.
Beds comfortable
Reception area very festive and welcoming Drainage smell in the bathroom and hot water spluttered. Decor was old but aware they are doing refurb.
- Carmell (9/5): Lovely rooms, great value for money fab breakfast! - Lovely Scenery, nice room, staff were lovely especially at breakfast lovely lady host. Breakfast was tasty and very reasonable for what you get. Continental breakfast and cooked for £10 :) had fruit/yogurts/cereal/boiled eggs/toast all jams.. croissants tea/coffee fresh juice and milk alternative (oat milk) would definitely stay again.
- Jonathan (9/5): - I liked the layout of the place and the rooms, very clean and the staff welcome was very nice and reassuring To be honest, everyone was fine for the stay. Maybe better light to the carpark and main entrance to the place as it can be easily missed, not major
- Or (9/5): -
- Robin (10/5): -
- David (7/5): A perfectly adequate two night stay in a location that suited me well. - Given every consideration by the owner. Met my needs for the two nights. Room of decent size with most facilities although behind the times for USB charging and some similar needs. Breakfast excellent, although not available on Monday (not obvious from Website) Some parts still looking out-dated but hopefully will be good when the modernisation is complete. Perhaps a vending machine would be helpful in the absence of a restaurant/bar.
- Hazel (7/5): Very convenient for visiting Bristol. - Staff was very friendly and booking in was easy. The room was too warm, so I didn’t sleep very well.
- Amanda (5/5): Okay for one night stay. Probably will be good once refurbishments are done. - The room was quiet. Beds clean and comfortable. Friendly host. The entrance hall was smart and welcoming and the breakfast looked to be so too, although we didn't use it. The whole building is being refurbished but we were not advised of this beforehand. Our room still had masking tape covering hinges etc where a rough coat of paint had been applied. One window was cracked and was sellotaped. There was no information pack within the room including no fire evacuation instructions...and the fire alarm did go off. Thankfully it was a false alarm! Floors in corridors were uneven and, upstairs, didn't see any signage to indicate exits.
- Mark (5/5): Handy for SGS Pride Game - Quiet
Warm welcome
Opportunity for breakfast No warning on step down into toilet
- NICHOLAS (9/5): -
- Robert (7/5): Ok - It was cheaper than those around it Needs a refurb , pretty tired
- Paul (5/5): - location was excellant for bus into Bristol Centre. Breakfast was very good and it was a joy to talk to the lady who prepared and served the meal. The premises could have been so much better and certainly came across as requiring greater care and attention. In general I have to say that overall it delivered all that was required for a short stay. but no more.
- Jean (10/5): Recommend - Friendly, helpful staff, comfortable and very clean room. Breakfast excellent value.
Some aspects of the accomodation appear a little "tired" but are being addressed by the current owners.
Recommend.
- jennifer (7/5): - Clean room and big variety of breakfast choices A little cold in the room
- Nathan (10/5): - Clean, big room, big tv, great shower. Super comfy bed with fan if u get easily hot during the night. Warm room in the morning. Walls are a bit fin though.
- Susan (8/5): Comfortable, friendly stop off for Bristol and beyond. Very welcoming staff. - Comfortable room, super friendly and helpful staff. Good dog walks and excellent pub nearby. In early stages of being done up, so tired interiors but all clean. Just off motorway - perfect for commuting but not a country getaway.
- Wendy (9/5): Clean comfortable great pub 2 mins away! - Perfect location for our purpose A little worn and in need of some updating
- anne (3/5): Bates motel - We were able to walk to the party venue we were attending, from the hotel. The room was musty, cobwebs, didn't feel clean. Basin in the bedroom not the bathroom, no hot water in the evening, no lounge or bar facilities. Felt very much like a run down motel.
- Matthew (7/5): - Breakfast could be better and better organised but did see the effort from staff and we enjoyed the experience as a whole
- raymond (9/5): - A step back in time. Really enjoyable.
- Jo-Anne (4/5): A bit disappointing . Set in lovely ground s but the room didn't shout class. - Breakfast was lovely a lady called jane who served and cooked was lovely she made breakfast a enjoyable experience I think the coach house are lucky to have such a lovely lady working for them. The bed was clean but the whole standard of cleanliness was not great. Lots of cobwebs the bathroom could have been much cleaner the tiles definitely had not been cleaned in a while the lamps and light fittings were either wonky or shabby. We wouldn't stay again.
- JoeMurphy (5/5): Has great potential - Really friendly staff and a great property with some interesting features. It's well located for the outskirts of Bristol and would be fine to get into the center if not at rush hour. Room was nice but there was some mould on the ceiling in the bathroom.
- Saulius (9/5): - Pleasant welcome, quick check in, good location, very nice room, and delicious breakfast. Shower facilities need an upgrade
- Stephen (6/5): - Stone cottage
- karen (10/5): - Second stay in same room. Comfy bed. Great staff
- Sukhvinder (8/5): Stay was comfortable in the family room. Pretty good size but needed an update and proper cupboard - Location was great, I enjoyed the breakfast too It was dated, needed to be updated. There was no cupboard to hang your clothing in, just a rail with shelves
- Lauren (10/5): -
- Kalvindar (6/5): - The Coach House is going through refurbishment.
The bedroom was comfortable and basic.
The breakfast was good.
- karen (10/5): - Brilliant welcoming staff. Very clean. Undergoing refurbishment so am not judging the state of corridors
- Angela (8/5): Clean& cosy -
- Tracy (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay away and the waitress at breakfast was very friendly and accommodating - Beautiful grounds and very quiet Family room was very spacious
- Professor Peter (5/5): for cheap B & B it was excellent value - Comfortable bed.Cooked breakfast excellent A bit shabby
- Graham (1/5): Staff nice, very poor accommodation, completely overpriced, avoid at all costs - Staff friendly
Lots of Parking
Location easy to find
Local pub served great quality food
Check in & Check out easy Communal areas Fixtures and fittings very tired with thread bare carpets, flaky paint and generally very very tired.
Beds very uncomfortable and squeaked with the slightest move, furniture old
TV didn’t work, with no signal
Wifi kept dropping in and out
Having the first room at the top of the stairs it can be quite noisy (Room 6)
With the windows slightly open there is a hum of traffic
Bathroom very poor lighting, ceiling stained with mildew, hot water pressure in sink none existent, no plug and shower was set on the hottest setting was barely warm enough.
- Kathryn (1/5): Never again. - The staff were lovely, smiling and accommodating. The room smelt of urine and had a damp musty smell. The TV did not work. The bed were hard. Bathroom smelt of urine. There was a snail attached to the spare mattress under the bed. It was dusty, curtains were too long and there was no sound proofing to other rooms.
- John (10/5): -
- Lisa (7/5): A little tired - Location perfect as a stop over. We have returned a few years in a row. Looking a little tired on our last visit
- Karolina (10/5): -
- Savia (7/5): -
- Bev (5/5): Overrated - It was a good location for the purpose of my visit. It had a high rating on booking.com The high rating for this property isn’t warranted. The decor was aimed at rustic but it only reached the shabby part of shabby chic.
- Lynn (8/5): Nice hotel let down by other inconsiderate guests - Staff very friendly and arranged a smooth late check in for us. It is the 2nd time we stayed at the property, the first time on the 1st floor but on this occasion we were on the ground floor. The room was large with the added bonus of a fridge. The bathroom was a little tired yet functional. The bedding and towels were spotless. Unfortunately we were disturbed at midnight by other noisy guests outside our room who had no consideration for others. This then also occurred again at just before 2am and then again at 3am. It is a shame as this is a convenient hotel for when we visit our friends
- Denis (7/5): -
- emily (10/5): -
- Philip (10/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): -
- Andrea (9/5): Charming, Dog friendly coach house on the outskirts of bristol - Really friendly, helpful staff. The lady serving breakfast was lovely. Great location close to Bristol, free parking. Cute room in a courtyard with a place to exercise our very old dog. Tables and chairs outside rooms. Good selection for continental breakfast, very reasonable at £5. Comfy beds, clean linens and towels. Bathroom small but clean. Light from courtyard shone through bathroom door. Bathroom was tiny. A little tired looking in places but much better than you would expect for the price.
- Christian (4/5): - Property was run down with ripped wall paper and staines on the blinds. Not worth the money
- Aoife (8/5): -
- Cass (1/5): We left and went to another hotel. - Nothing Weeds in the courtyard, garden rubble piled up in the courtyard. Cleaning materials piled up by the courtyard. Building rubble stored outside our window. Filthy carpets. Curtain rail hanging out of the wall. 30 year old bed. No field to walk our dog as advertised.
- KMin (6/5): -
- Tom (8/5): -
- Hilary (8/5): Had a great stay, twice. - Location was useful. Room was nice, breakfast was great. The place has clearly improved in recent times. We stayed twice, I used to live in Frenchay 35 years ago. Enjoyed our stay. Reception was closed more than I expected, but it worked out. The room keys need updating. Bit odd, but had character.
- Michał (9/5): - Okolica cicha i spokojna
- Gary (4/5): It served a purpose. - Was very noisy in the morning from people upstairs and the kitchen. We were in room 1. Don’t see how that is an executive double?
- Jackie (3/5): Will not return - Not a lot !
It was run down, didn’t look anything like the pictures, clearly the photos taken haven’t been edited for many years. My bacon was clearly gone off and out of date. And no one on reception to talk to in the evening or the morning. Don’t rush to go here ! Broken handles on door, poor shower,
Gone off meat
