Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfort in a great location. - Wonderful location at this historic building. The host is very friendly and helpful. The shower was excellent in the private bathroom. Coffee maker and toaster in the room was so greatly appreciated. Bagels, bread and cereal were also provided. Lovely old world charm. Very comfortable!
- Barbara (10/5): Lovely but the stairs can be a problem for our som - The hostess was very gracious. Lovely funky rooms
The stairs are very Steep and narrow. She needs a real bannister on the left side of the stairs and all the way up and around the corner her greater safety. Anyone with a mild handicap problem this would not be a good place for the top floor.
- e (8/5): Character and comfort. - This is homey, comfortable, well-worn. Owner on premises and really tries to make sure the guests have a good stay. This is not some modern, generic facility. There is some street noise which drops off later at night. The neighborhood seems very safe and you are very close to the historic area. You have a small area with sink, microwave and small fridge, coffee maker. She stocks cereal, bagels, coffee, tea, juices. Bed is comfortable. Wi-fi, and cable TV. Come and go as you need. I had the master suite on the ground floor with private bath. Bath is a little tight but has what you need. There are only two other rooms. Recommend you not bring a car. There is a paid facility in the next block.
- X (8/5): - Nice place, but it was a steep trek up a steep staircase to the 3rd floor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This place has absolutely amazing potential. The owner can't do anything about the noise level as it's location is excellent but in the loud city! LOUD vehicles, people, and general city life noise. I do like an open window though so...my bad...
It is the inside that was troublesome. The water temp in the shower was very wildly fluctuating especially early in the day. From perfect where you finally got it to go to scalding of it's own accord.
Cleanliness was questionable....the towel and bed sheets were fine smelled clean, felt good. The floor dust, not so much. Closets were dirty too. Maybe store every thing in one and leave one clean one for guest?
AND the worst of it was a strong, deeply unpleasant smell that came from??? old carpet on stairs or old cat or animal pee or ???? especially strong as I turned up to the second level and wafting in through the vents???
The breakfast part of the B and B was essentially non existent as it was yogurt and stale cereal. No choices, just what was there.
Otherwise it was ok. Door to our room stuck so hard it had to be slammed practically to get it closed. Seems like it would all be somewhat easy to correct
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the furnishings, the cleanliness, the convenient location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The space needs an overall cleaning with an upgrade in rugs and mats. The carpeting has stains on it. The decor is very nice with a homey feel. Majorie is lovely.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I liked the charm of the old colonial residence and quirky features. I also liked its central location and easy access to places and restaurants of interest to me. Because it's on the corner of a relatively busy street it was a little noisy at night.
- Belinda (10/5): Tradewinds BNB - Spacious and private, clean and comfortable. Convenient location, near secure parking, shopping and attractions. We would definitely stay again....thanks Marge!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It' OK! Reasonable price. Kind Welcome like home. Can walk to downtown. (15')
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice atmosphere, different and stylish decoration.Very clean. Good neighbourhood. Friendly host.
Breakfast quite basic but adequate for me.
Room doesn't seem secure (problem locking my door). same key for different doors?
Overall recommended.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Romantic but not quite (shared bathroom) - The house was what you expect from a Philly house. Very cute and cozy. The rooms were decorated in the older times which was very romantic and inviting. Two parking garages around the corner for a reasonable price. $20/24 hours i think which isn't bad compared to other parking garages and not street parking. The view we had of downtown wasn't the best but definitely not worth complaining about. I got a couple nice pictures from our room. The lady who ran the place is super nice and very pleasing. Don't take that for granted. When we needed something or had troubles with our credit card she was very understanding and amazingly nice. However, we visited in early May and it was in the late 70's and there was no AC, only a plug in heater in the corner. We had a shared bathroom bedroom and we constantly heard the people next door locking our door because they were up and down all night and they were seniors. As a light sleeper and no AC this made the next day for exploring very tiring.
- Kelly (6/5): Good location close parking - The area in which the bed and breakfast is located was awesome. Parking was close. Just know that you could have to go to the third floor for your room, there are steps involved, no elevator.... and the breakfast is cold cereal, coffee or tea in your room. There is no continental or hot breakfast. Could be cleaner.
- Mithila (8/5): - The owner of the hotel was extremely helpful, nice and very accomodating. It felt personal and comforting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property owner was very friendly and helpful. Loved the quirky antique furnishings and spacious room with bath. Much cozier than a traditional hotel.
- Ralph (8/5): Comfortable lodgings in a nice neighborhood. - I was in town for a weekend, and stayed here overnight. It’s a convenient location, easy to get to, and convenient. There are plenty of stores and restaurants around, and it’s a nice residential neighborhood. The room is very spacious, with sofa, table, and kitchenette. It was all functional though a bit worn. The bed and furnishings are generally comfortable. The space is cluttered, however, and feels a bit overstuffed. There was some nighttime noise (Saturday night) from traffic and pedestrians, but only for a few hours. WiFi service was good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Attractive large room in a convenient location. But unlike most B&B's, breakfast was do-it-yourself.
- Cindy (10/5): - Fantastic choice for a personal touch- clean, charming, and convenient-
- Joseph (8/5): - Very nice room. Very nice neighborhood too. I would definitely go back again
- Nick (6/5): - I didnt realize i would be sharing a bathroom and the other desks could open my door. It was just uncomfortable.
- Shirley (8/5): Exactly what we expected - Very nice place to stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The air conditioning was not working at all and the temperature in the city was 95 plus degrees. When I contacted the owner she said she would be right there. By the time she arrived she had already made arrangements for us to stay at another place. She offered to also get us a cab but I declined because it was less than a ten minute walk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything is good! Good located, close to everything in Philadelphia.
- David (8/5): Funky, Clean and Convenient - The place is a little funky, but clean and comfortable. It was close to North street...just one block away from a new Whole Foods. Walked about 15 minutes to independence square. A very safe hood!
- Danielle (8/5): Quirky charm/sweet host - Great for us. Perfect location for the activities we planned. Hotel was delightfully quirky at a good rate. Some oddities. Would definitely stay again. Thank you, Marge! Such a comfortable mattressZzzzzz...
- Grace (8/5): - This place has the perfect location the neighboerhood is beautiful and very safe.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Small nice bed and breakfast, 20 min walk to many places, helpful owner. Our room come with shared bathroom but very satisfied and will stay again
- Nash (8/5): - Very good location for South Street antics. Close to a reasonably priced parking lot at ACME. Marjorie is pleasant to work with. Beds were comfy, didn't hurt my memory foam spoiled back. Thanks for everything!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room itself is nice. I loved the home feel to it. However it stated on the website the room had AC and the unit was not working. Being in the middle of philly in the summer a AC unit is definitely needed. The room and bathroom definitely could of been cleaned better. I had a toddler with me so I would of preferred the floor to be dusted and cleaned better. Overall I feel I was overcharged for what we got.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely decor with wonderful antiques. Breakfast is a container of cereal and a coffee maker. Glad I had other breakfast plans!
- Roger (10/5): Love - My stay was amazing and I love the decor. Also the location was exceptional
- Verified traveler (8/5): Exactly as advertised - The room was exactly as described - plus a 3rd floor walk up. Luckily we had small bags. Very informal atmosphere, no common space to relax in, just the room & shared bath. Great location and detailed pre arrival information
- Jon (10/5): Charming and great location. - Nice historic building with three rooms decorated nicely. Nice comfortable old beds. Some yappie little dogs downstairs but we didn't notice them. Marge the proprieter is very nice and helpful. Nice 15-minute walk to the historic area downtown, also on nearby South St. there are a lot of great little shops and restaurants etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Marjorie was super sweet! Nice, walkable neighborhood, beautiful house
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice got some sleep felt like I was home I will return
- Shea (8/5): Good for one night - Our stay at trade winds was pretty good. We loved the area and it was so convenient to the Liberty Bell, Redding Terminal, and Independence Hall. The room provided yogurt, orange juice, hot chocolate, and chex cereal. The furnishings were really cute and vintage. Sharing a bathroom was pretty awkward but it works for some people. Our bathmates weren't very considerate (didn't knock and would have walked in on me if it weren't for the chain lock.) I'd recommend staying in the room with a private bathroom, it's probably worth the extra money. Anyone who has allergies or asthma probably shouldn't stay here because the owner has a dog and the building and rooms smell like cigarette smoke. Overall we were fine staying here for one night. It definitely has character and I don't think we will ever forget it.
- Gardener (6/5): Convenient to Convention Center - B & B was convenient to Convention Center. The owner was very informative and personable. Clean towels were abundant and plenty breakfast items were available. The dust had me sneezing and seeing the mouse the first night had me on guard. I stuffed a towel under the door to keep it front entering again. A good vacuuming of the rugs, dust mopping on the wood floors, furniture dusting and a pest control serivce could easily remedy these problems.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great stay, great landlady, great location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A charming getaway - What a wonderful experience! Majorie welcomes us and gave us helpful information about the area. Our room was charming and the decor was wonderful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Meh. - Not very clean; "breakfast" was cereal, milk, OJ. Big room with kitchen area.
- Frank (8/5): Cozy, Old Charm Centrally Located - Excellent stay. Walked everywhere. Lots of toiletries and whatever you may need, micro, fridge, coffee maker. This establishment lacks a common breakfast area. You would have to make your own coffee. However, you wont bother having a Whole Foods markets just around the corner, not to mention Starbucks and a great market (Acme).
- Traveler (6/5): Very Okay - I booked the master suite (the only room with a private bathroom) for my fiancée and I due to it's proximity to a friend's apartment. I would stay again, but it could be a lot better.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Easy access to old town, South Street and Pier. - In town to share Philadelphia to out-of-country family guests.
- mac (8/5): A very relaxing and pleasant stay - Our hostess was helpful. She made you feel at home. If you are looking for modern and fancy this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a homey and cozy place you will find it here. The price is just right.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely neighbourhood, homey feel, kind proprietor - The proprietor was very approachable, and also generous and helpful to me when I suspected that I had car trouble. Very good at replying to emails to answer questions. Very much enjoyed my stay. I found the Philly people very friendly!
- Gary (10/5): Weekend in Philly - Marjorie let's us drop off some bags, steered us to the nearby park are to get rid of the car and we had three great days and 2 overnights in the historic district of Philadelphia.
- Don (8/5): Convenient to Center City - 4 blocks from subway and bus lines. Just south of Rittenhouse Square.
- Juanita (10/5): Nice bed and breakfast within walking distanec - Very cozy, quaint, clean, friendly and helpful hostess. It is close to everything from dining, entertainment, shopping and historical places
- Verified traveler (4/5): I just want to pee alone - Margie was lovely and helpful. My main disappointment came from having to share a bathroom and getting locked out of the bathroom for long periods of time. I wasn't aware of another backup option either. I wasn't given a heads up that I would have to walk 3 flights of stairs to get to my room, which was fine for me, but might not be for others. The room seemed as if it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a while, and only the bare minimum had been done. The toilet was dirty, everything was pretty dusty, and the rug was gross. The second floor smelled like animals. With all that said, if it was more obvious that the bed sheets were fresh and I didn't have to share a bathroom I would have been happy to stay here again.
Overall, great location, great price, great host, but needs cleaned.
- Larry (8/5): Ideal location/price for a Beautiful Neighborhood - Owner is available and very helpful. The location is perfect to get a feel for an upscale Philly neighborhood with lots to do nearby and Whole Foods 1 block away. The room was extremely large, comfortable bed/pillows and unbeatable price. Constructive feedback is that there really isn't a breakfast, just some old juice/milk in the fridge and a few yogurts, frozen waffles/bagels. But with Whole Foods a block away I didn't mind. Bathroom is adequate for a single guy, but your wife won't be impressed. Overall great space/location for the price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent place for a short stay - Stayed for 1 night with my son. Lovely lady in charge. My only thing is the shared bathroom, but that is just my preference.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Great location, Marjorie is very knowledgeable and very helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, cosy bnb - Trade Winds is located in a great spot. There are shops and nightlife right around the corner on south street, and it is walkable to the city and some of the best Philly Cheesesteak joints. The rooms were definitely large enough and the host was extremely helpful and pleasant. The AC was a little loud and couldn't quite keep up with the heat but otherwise was a comfortable stay.
- Bailey (10/5): Central location and historic accomodations - Excellent location and beautiful room! We were able to walk to every bar, museum, club and shop we wanted, and it was just as easy to rent a car and park nearby overnight for a trip to Hersheypark. Marjorie was considerate and helpful and even contacted us personally to find out when our flight was arriving. We stayed for almost one week in the largest room and my parents stayed for a night in the room with double beds. We were all very comfortable and would happily stay here again.
- Lacy (8/5): - Marjorie is attentive but not up in your space. The room had a mini fridge, a coffee maker and necessary accouterments, a small table with dishes, cereal, milk, juice, yogurt and water. Plenty of clean towels, a TV, wifi (which was a little slow), AC. It was cozy and very comfortable. Perfectly walkable to everything I needed.
- Captain Bill (10/5): RIGHT in the middle of the best part of Philly - Overall everything was just as ideal as it could be. The owner was fantastic and very helpful, parking was extremely close to the hotel. It really is in the heart of the nicest part of the city within walking distance to everything. Outstanding... We're planning on returning the next time we head that way!!!!!
- Maryika (10/5): Philadelphia June 2017 - Very friendly and helpful hosts, great neighbouhood, walking distance from downtown and train to airport. Would recommend highly
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice bnb - Nice bnb in a good area near historic district
- William (8/5): Unique. The atmosphere is historical. - Worth an overnight stay just for the ambience of the place.
- Donna (8/5): Great location, Cool room, needs a good cleaning - We stayed one night and the previous occupants things were still in the room, we arrived after 5pm. The place was very dusty. While the woman was very kind and informative, the room really needs to be cleaned better. It wasn't terrible, but it felt like I was staying over my aunt's house more than I was staying at place of business. Underneath the bed there was a thick layer of dust, the mantle and the tops of shelves were also dusty.
I am glad we chose this place over a hotel room. The place had great character, I felt very at home and comfortable, but it just felt very stale and was clearly in need of a good dusting. She had dogs, which I didn't know until I got there, and while they were tiny and out of the way, they were allowed in the house. With the dust being an issue, I imagine if you were allergic to dogs, you would not feel comfortable here. It was great to feel very home like and the room had any accommodation you would want. The owner was very inviting, I changed my check in time and she was okay with that. She was happy to give us suggestions and directions as well as a parking pass.
- Christine (10/5): - The room was lovely and the location is great ( close to Historic Philadelphia and the many entertainment and social venues in Center City). Also Marjorie is a gem.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great area - Landlady was very accommodating. Room comfy but not the cleanest, there was drool on one of the pillows.
All provisions in fridge were very useful. Great area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great experience - It was great!
- sam (6/5): Mostly awesome! - Everything was great except the dog smell when you first get in. The best was unbelievably comfortable and Margie was friendly and helpful. However, the breakfast dishes left for us were dirty and the "breakfast," stale cereal and yogurt, was subpar.
- Shaun (10/5): Great location - Although not the most mobile person nothing was too much trouble for Marjorie
The only slight problem was the way the couple in the next room would hog the bathroom (around 90 mins once) but as I was in no hurry it was not a problem for me.
Of the 7 hotel/Guest house bookings I made for my visit this was the 2nd best the 3rd was pretty good but still not even close & was only beaten because the 1st was exceptional
Philadelphia has far less to offer than I expected so I doubt I will ever go back but if I do then I would certainly stay here again
- Frederic (10/5): Charming Bed and Breakfast - This charming bed and breakfast is located in an old but well-kept three-story house. The hallways are lined with an interesting assortment of paintings and wall art. My room is on the third floor, ornately furnished with colonial-style furniture, and reasonably clean given that all the housekeeping is performed by the homeowner, an elderly lady named Marjorie who runs the establishment and lives there with her two small dogs. The bathroom is well-stocked and shared with the adjoining room; while the walls are relatively thin I only occasionally hear anything at all from the neighboring guests. Breakfast options are simple but filling: several types of fruit yogurt, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, tea, and bottled water. A Whole Foods Market and various shops are a block away on the famous South Street, a lively and eclectic area of Philadelphia.
Marjorie took particular effort into making my stay as comfortable as possible; I was able to call or text her at any time, which I greatly appreciated. While I was visiting for a job interview, I think that this location is a great option for those exploring Philadelphia for fun.
- don (10/5): Just What We Wanted - My husband and I are moving to Philly and came for 2 days to look at apartments. This B&B was perfect for us. Clean, comfortable. Breakfast is self-serve in room. Proprietor is knowledgeable and accommodating.
- Casi (8/5): Nice B&B in Philly - Marjorie was lovely and accommodating when we arrived in town early. The rooms are very eclectic but clean. I'm not a fan of shared bathrooms but it was very clean and had anything you might need. The in-room breakfast worked for us. It it easy to walk to and from in terms of site seeing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent location and Host! - Beautiful place tucked away in the heart of the city. Our host was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She made some great recommendations on where to eat or visit.
- Lourdes (8/5): Weekend Getaway - Excellent location.Close to supermarkets and restaurants and public transportation. a lot of street art in the allyways.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Marjorie is a kind host and the location of the b&b was great. She was incredibly accommodating in terms of allowing us to drop our bags off, and get a quick change in before check in and also allowing us to leave our bags after check out for which I am truly thankful. I have no fault with her at all. I do however think the floors were dirty and that the cleanliness standards in general weren't very high. Also...know that if you're staying, that you'll be climbing steep steps to get to your room.
- Dmitry (8/5): - The "hotel" is a room in a 200-old house at the centre of Philadelphia. The bathroom is located in between two adjacent guest rooms. The air condition is noisy and ineffective. The lack of comfort is compensated by the great location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fascinating interior, interesting art collection on hall walls and in the room. Various mirrors with carved or metal frames. Bed was comfortable and the refrigerator was filled with yogurt, juice, milk and water. There was a microwave and coffee maker in the room as well.
- JOHN (8/5): top location for sightseeing - Great location for the historical sights and really comfortable if a bit quirky, great value
- Marilyn (8/5): Location, location, location! - Location was great. Very nice neighborhood close to attractions, bars and restaurants. Owner was friendly and helpful.
