Guest Reviews
- Chris (10/5): - Great staff, clean room, great view.
Excellent on site restaurant.
- Robert (8/5): Comfortable stay with beautiful hiking trails on the property - What we liked most is the forest nearby with quite nice hiking trails. After already a very nice day in the Santa Elena cloud forest we went for a hike here, and saw lots of birds and monkeys. What a nice surprise! And what a great location to see the sunset. The room was good enough, but it’s basically just three beds in a square room. Not so charming. Functional though, and a large bathroom and good water pressure and hot water for a good shower. Our room didn’t have any other facilities, no fridge and little storage so basically our suitcases were open on the floor. Breakfast is not included but they have a very nice restaurant on the property with a beautiful flower garden nearby. Breakfast was good, but not cheap, count US$15 per person. There is no air conditioning but in Monte Verde you don’t need that, it’s not hot there any time of the year. A little more storage space, cupboards or planks would have been nice for if you stay longer that just a night.
- Fabian (9/5): Great Family and best breakfast we ever had! -
- Valerie (9/5): Loved the place… beautiful grounds and gardens. Lush and green. Away from the noise and traffick of town. - Secluded and quiet. Access to trails. Natalie was professional and very helpful. Facilities were clean and comfortable. A bit of a steep hike into town(and back) but doable. The relatively short distance to town made our accommodation quiet with no light pollution. A big plus.
- Alejandro (10/5): Repetiría, buena relación calidad precios - La ubicación y fácil acceso a los senderos propios. Que había bichos.
- Tami (10/5): Perfect for backpackers and adventurous travelers - Affordable and plenty of hikes on the property to take advantage of. The restaurant on site was also lovely. It seems like a more popular place for backpackers to stay at. Location and easy access to hikes. There was a walking tour they did on site as well as a farm tour that would have been fun to do.
- Yaser Miguel (9/5): -
- Julie (10/5): - Magnifique emplacement, magnifique vue.
- Heather (10/5): Amazing! - Amazing stay. It was so relaxing staying in our own space above the trees. The location is perfect, close to town but a quiet retreat. The restaurant, Flores y Sabores was excellent.
- Angela (8/5): Beautiful property for a good price! - Clean. Beautiful grounds. Loved the trails No fridge, coffee pot or microwave in the room
- Molly (10/5): -
- susan (10/5): Famtastic - The location, views, house, comfort of beds, facilities were great. Nothing
- Juan Carlos (9/5): Naturaleza.
- Matthew (10/5): A beautiful family farm with a lot of private land to hike on. - The room was exceptionally clean, the views were stunning and the family staff were super nice! N/A
- Aiden (10/5): Comfortable and enjoyable. - Loved this place! The hiking trails (to a bluff with an amazing view!), the informative farm tour, the delicious breakfast, clean comfortable room, hot shower with decent water pressure, beautiful property, convenient to Monteverde and tours- it was really quite perfect! Oh, and ample shelve space in bathroom for toiletries. Also nice outdoor seating. There's a lot to love here. The only thing I can even think of is that the pillows were small, flimsy and scarce. More pillows and ones of better quality would be great.
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing farm to table tour/breakfast. LOVED it! - Views, host family, farm, breakfast.
Wow, do not miss the breakfast farm tour: you meet the family (3 generations) and learn the history of Monteverde through their own Family's history, go through the workshop where a family member makes the furniture for the cabins and restaurant, see the farm where they raise dairy cows, chickens, pigs, grow coffee, fruit, sugar, vegetables, see how they incorporate an area of rainforest on site, before going to the restaurant to eat a delicious traditional farm to table breakfast. One of the BEST days of our whole Costa Rica trip! Didn't like that we only stayed for one night. Would 100% book in for longer if we return to Costa Rica.
Some reviews I read stated that the breakfast offerings are unclear. They do become clear when you arrive: you chose your breakfast options at check in (it's not automatic and there's different choices) and I highly recommend not missing the farm to table breakfast tour! Best thing to do if you are unclear about the breakfast situation is to contact the host family directly. They're very helpful
- Allison (10/5): Clean, easy access with friendly staff - We stayed in the 4 bed room. It’s simple, but met our needs and was a great price. Staff are very friendly. Good location. Had hot water!!!! Close to Selvatura zipline Park. Steep driveway- but everywhere in Santa Elena is steep.
- James (9/5): Great family run business. Get the breakfast! Pretty much farm to table. - Ricardo was an excellent guide He was a little too fast for us old people. Nah, we’re too slow!
- Pablo (10/5): -
- Edgars (10/5): - Remote, quiet, close to the Private Jungle trail. Great bang for buck, simple, clean, safe . Up on a hill also - can see the sunset nicely.
- Roberta (7/5): Beautiful views and grounds, amenities in the rooms could be improved - The grounds and trails are absolutely beautiful. The beds were cozy and we had adequate blankets. I enjoyed their hot water. The rooms need a fridge, TV and better wifi. Since they are located away from the town, there was no option for entertainment without a TV or reliable wifi.
The breakfast was way over-priced. I didn't not partake in it. The lack of fridge or shared kitchen to prepare our own food was disappointing.
- Jocelyn (8/5): -
- Ian (8/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): - Beautiful view, great location, pathways with monkeys
C’etait trop bien Rien
- DAVIDE (6/5): -
- abigail (5/5): -
- Maria (10/5): Comfortable warm lodge in the hills of the cloud forest - Really comfortable and warm rooms beautiful location and really friendly and accommodating staff - thankyou for booking trips /transport for us recommending excellent restaurants and being so flexible with breakfast for our group 😊 Nothing
- Stephanie (6/5): Clean, basic, booking system disorganised. - The room had an amazing view. The guy on reception was friendly The cabin we stayed in was clean but basic. We had to ask the reception for a cup of hot water as there was no kettle in our room.
We booked our room via booking.com approximately 2 months before our visit. It took a while to get confirmation of our booking, despite me emailing the property. In the end I had to telephone 3x before I eventually got through and had verbal and email confirmation of my room. 8 days before we were due to arrive I got an email to say there had been a mistake and the room was only available for 1 night of our 2 night stay. Cabinas capulinas did arrange alternative accommodation for us for the second night in a very nice AirBnb at their expense, so that was good. It was however annoying to have to move somewhere when we had wanted to stay at Cabinas Capulin.
The guide book said that for a small fee residents at the cabins could have a tour of the farm on which the cabins were located. The fee was 25USDollars per person! We are a family of 4 and as a resident at the property I feel that $100 was far too much to pay. We did not do the tour.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Rob (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view and location. Great value for money. Loved the walking trail from our door .
- Dennis (9/5): Superb - Great location great staff
- Klaudia (5/5): Passable - The person working at the reception was really lovely and helpful. The location of the place was beautiful Too expensive for what it was! The sewage system was broken and the smell coming from a toilet was awful.
The light in the bathroom wasn't working, had to use a table lamp from the room. Lot's of spiders!
- Jennifer (10/5): Clean, comfortable and uniquely interesting place to stay in the Cloud Forest. - We enjoyed our two bedroom cabana at Cabanas Capulin & Farm. The property was well appointed, secure and private. Each bedroom had a spacious en suite bathroom that was spotless. The farm itself is very cool, and I went for a walk in the many trails one morning. I managed to get quite turned around but one of the farm staff helped to direct me back, and it was an adventure! The views are very good. Both mornings we woke up to rainbow views. We ended up going up the 'old' road which was steep and full of holes, only to find there was a slightly better one right beside it that we could have gone up to get up to the cabana.
- Ankur (8/5): Very good - - Great room (2 bedrooms, 2 baths)
- Bathrooms were brand new and really clean
- Huge balcony with great view
- Good breakfast (not included, need to order a day before) - Google Maps and Waze show the wrong turn. Don’t trust those apps. They take you through an unpaved and rocky road, where a 2x2 could get stuck. Take the turn which has a sign with hotel’s name on it. The owners could have told us about this before we arrived, but they didn’t.
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Giller (10/5): Great place to stay - The deck was great to watch from in the morning with coffee and the night with a drink! We could have used more blankets. It got cold at night!!
- Denae (9/5): Beautiful property, fabulous for families! - Property was absolutely amazing, many hiking trails, a beautiful creek in the jungle and beautiful open pastures to watch the cows roam. The property was a 10/10! My family enjoyed going on a hike each day to explore a new part of the property Can’t say there was much we didn’t like.
- Nikita (10/5): Amazing - This was a true gem of a property.
We stayed at sunset cabin and the views from the cabin were amazing.
Saw one of the best sunsets from here :)
The only thing to keep in mind is that the road up to the cabins need a 4x4 vehicle
- Terry (10/5): Excellent - Everything Hard to find in the dark
- Pascal (10/5): Great value accommodation in a lovely setting. Helpful and reactive staff. - Clean, plenty of space, great views!
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - What an amazing experience. We would recommend everyone does the farm tour. It was a truly engaging introduction to the farm, the family and the history of the area in general.
Would 100% recommend this place to anyone.
Very comfy beds too!!
- Walsh (8/5): Beautiful view and log cabin vibe and very comfortable - We liked the log cabin vibes. Very clean and had a beautiful view. Road signage could be better to find more easily
- Min (9/5): Superb -
- Sahar (10/5): Highly recommended - Great location close to all activities, very clean and comfortable and well prepared, very nice view. Helpful receptionist .
Highly recommended
- Winnie (9/5): Superb - Very spacious rooms with amazing views, although it did take a good few minutes of questionable roads to get there; the staff was very friendly and helpful. Said questionable roads
- Tatiana (10/5): The best accommodation in Costa Rica! - This is a magnificent place to stay! We would live to stay more!!!
- Susan (6/5): Great porch space to enjoy the views and a good value. - The views are magnificent with a great porch for enjoying them. The window seats in each bedroom are great. The beds were comfortable enough. We ordered breakfast for one morning as we had to be out early, and it was simple but tasty. The kitchen and bathrooms were definitely cabin-y, but adequate for our needs.
- Jeffrey (9/5): Superb -
- Gina (9/5): Superb - nice place and clean
- Benette (10/5): We loved the location, its privacy and comfort. - It was a beautiful setting, private & well maintained. The cabin was spotless, comfortable and met all our needs. The family was extremely helpful & even took a walk down to their farm. Nothing.
- Francis (9/5): Beautiful views and Beautiful Cabins! - The houses were beautiful and had amazing views! When the clouds clear you could see all the way to the Nicoya Gulf! The houses were also very clean! The breakfast (not included) was delicious! There are tons of birds that pass on property and there are also nature trails right next to the property! The only two minor issues was the payment was about 25 dollars more than the price I booked. I would also recommend that the property send clear directions to guests because google maps sent us up a rocky and steep road that was unpaved and our car got temporarily stuck in a ditch (it was kind of scary). Luckily we maneuvered it out but we didn't realize that the actual entrance (which was less steep and a bit more paved) was after the turn that google maps gave us. So if you are going don't turn right until you see the sign for Cabins Capulins which may be the turn after google maps gives you.
- Priscila (8/5): Very good -
- Bret (7/5): Good - The room was pleasant but the information on booking.com was incorrect. The trail around the property was pretty cool but we only found out about that from google reviews. We'd been on vacation for over a week and had planned on having our laundry done here as it mentioned it in the information and the property did not offer laundry as advertised. There was also no breakfast that you could buy as indicated in the booking.com information.
- Melissa (9/5): Superb - nice cook top, great location, ants living in the wall
- Gillian (9/5): Beautiful location and lovely staff - What a stunning location, our cabin was built at the tree canopy height and we were able to immerse ourselves in the forest.
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (9/5): Perfect place for our family of six! - Great views from the room, beds were decent, kitchen was well appointed.
- Gabriela (10/5): Idyllic, unforgettable - Panoramic views, trail, farm, sunset, close to all attractions -
- Selma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yonas (10/5): Awesome stay with awesome view. - Like everything about the place including the staff and facility Nothing.
- Michael (6/5): Decent for the price. - Very conveniently located for our plans. Comfortable beds. No hot water in bathroom or kitchen sinks. Hot water in shower would get scalding hot, turn off, and then get hot again. Apparently typical that we had to provide most of our own paper goods, etc. NO SCREENS on any of the windows or doors.
- Eleanor (8/5): Very good. - The fruit tray was delicious as was the juice. We showed up about 20 minutes before our time and the staff was gracious. Would have liked coffee fixings in the room but the reception door opened at 6:30 am and graciously gave me two coffees.
- Cinzia (8/5): Very good -
- Jarmila (9/5): we had great stay overall. - Beautiful view, very quiet and clean. The doors were quite squeaky, then need some WD40 :) Also the front door lock was very weak.
- Lynne (7/5): This is best for self-sufficient travelers - The location was within walking distance to a wonderful Italian restaurant 5 minutes away and only 15-20 minutes to countless others. The walk back is all uphill but Costa Rica is a place to visit for the active who don't mind walking. You have to keep an eye out for cars as they will fly by you, however. No shoulder anywhere in this country. While the sunset view was amazing big bushes blocked your view if seated so only enjoyed standing. I wish they were cut lower but it may exist to protect people from the hill below. Some lounge chairs would have been nice to lay in the sun. When checking in I asked the host about a mountain I wanted to visit (you can see the sunset from both the Pacific and Atlantic at the same time). His response was "Best view is here" with no further details on how to get there. If I asked about the Cloud Forest tours he would point to a sign in the reception area stating "Best hikes or walks are here". He was not helpful for local activities and his English was not great so I don't know if some questions were lost in translation. It is a modest place but lovely (we wished we had a TV when two of us got a stomach bug and needed to stay in and rest). Know you are on your own to figure out the local things to do. They liked to keep the dollars in-house. We did a night walk on the property and saw some pit vipers and a tarantella and had to pay cash to do so.
- Anders (9/5): Beautiful location with good value - Beautiful location. You could sit outside the cabina and watch the sunset over Nicoya peninsula and the Pacific. Two big rooms with two beds - one double and one single - in each room. Helpful staff for suggestions of activities. Very good breakfast prepared by order. Just beware that breakfast in not included
- Donald (5/5): The property did not meet our expectations. Water is essential and clean water wasn't available. - The casita where we stayed was clean. However, we could not use the water because it had a strong sulfur smell. No drinking, showering, use of kitchen water. Beds were comfortable. Being able to shower after a long day of travel was something we looked forward to, but this wasn't possible. The kitchen was very sparsely furnished.
- Christopher (7/5): OK if you have a car and want to self-cater but better to be closer to town if not. - Nice veranda area by the bungalow. Good self-catering facilities. A bit isolated and distant from restaurants. Breakfast cheap ($7) but basic in very utilitarian space.
- Caley (5/5): Beautiful scenery and great WiFi but wouldn’t stay there again. - The location was nice, the balcony from our cabin had a great view, there was hot water, and the WiFi from the cabin was great. We had no orientation to the property and didn’t feel welcome at all. The cabin was very warm and stuffy with no AC or fans during the day, but thankfully it cooled down at night. The lack of AC would have been fine if we could open the windows but there were no screens and there were wasps outside.
- Rajeev (9/5): Superb -
- Krassimira (8/5): Very good - The location is very good. The place is quiet, away from bizzy streets, surrounded by nature. Cabinas are specious, clean, and bright. There is a nice nature trail in the property. The kitchen is big and well equipped.
- Jessica (9/5): Wonderful views from the guesthouse in gorgeous Monteverde - Quiet, convenient, great views, lots of space.
- Traveler, (9/5): Beautiful Views in a Lovely Cabin - Our stay was lovely. We appreciated the two bedrooms and the lovely deck overlooking the forest. The pathway around the property was lovely. We enjoyed walking around, birdwatching, and visiting the cows at the farm. Our daughters enjoyed the glass window seats in each room, which they used each morning to read. The water in the showers was hot, the water pressure was excellent, and the living room/kitchen was spacious. The kitchen area had zero condiments/spices for guests. We were able to procure some salt/pepper shakers from the main lodge, but some cooking oil and spices would have been a nice gesture.
- Erika (9/5): Superb -
- Erika (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (10/5): We felt comfortable and safe in this beautiful location where the staff took good care of us - With breath taking views and very quiet. The big windows makes it easy to enjoy the view from the beautiful window seats. We stayed in the rainbow house and loved it. We heard and saw the wildlife just outside our window. Cooking facility was a nice touch, making breakfast or early dinner before a jungle night tour was so convenient.
- Ying (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Loved it! Spacious, clean, gorgeous view. - Perfect location, amazing view! Clean, quiet, Spacious. Great water pressure, beautiful deck. Beds were good enough but not amazing. Kitchen could use more supplies like salt and pepper, more hand towels, dish rack.
- Karina (10/5): A mountain treasure! - The vista from our caben was magnificent, we were walking distance to restaurants, bakery, and grocery stores, and a beautiful jungle trail. Samir, our host, greeted us warmly and arranged for us to go on a night walk at the farm right next door. Beautiful wood furniture and finishing touches.
- Pablo (9/5): Nice place to stay - Wonderful view The second floor is really noisy if you walk everybody will notice it
- Anuraag (7/5): Good - Great space, view, and location. You can see the entire town and all the way to the ocean. Breakfast wasn’t offered even though it was displayed on the booking. There wasn’t any flexibility without checkout either.
