Guest Reviews
- Emily (10/5): Perfect cozy place for shredding at Red! - The location can’t be beat! Easily walked to the slopes and had a great restaurant next door. The rooms were cozy and perfect for our group.
- Kurt (6/5): Funky and comfortable. - Access to Red is close No parking near by
- Jeff (10/5): - Clean, board tuning room, close to lifts
- Gordon (5/5): Nice place, but highly overpriced. $275 nightly for a room in a hostel. - Walking distance to ski lift Parking lot was extremely icy-never been shoveled or maintaine
Many stairs up to main level-staircase was sagging and old lumber on small cantilevered beams. No building inspector would pass this hazardous construction.
No staff on site or any contact number. The door lock jammed one evening after dark. Took 20 minutes to get in. No porch light at the entry way.
The facility is a simple hostel with six rooms around a common room. Nice enough as it is, but price is same as for a premium condo on the ski hill. Very poor value for money. Only one place nearby to eat, otherwise must drive into town
- NICHOLAS (6/5): Great mountain. - Convenience Paper thin walls
- Brian (2/5): This accommodation marketed and priced as an Inn is an overpriced rundown ski hostel at best! - The only positive thing about this accommodation was the location to Red Mountain base allowing you to walk to the lifts. Very small and expensive room with thin walls (so thin you can hear people using the bathroom next door!) The washroom was so small if you moved the toilet another foot it would be in the shower and the sink is located outside the bathroom. Extremely poor value for what you get. Need to compete for a parking spot out front as people use parking lot to attend ski mountain and restaurants next door. Poor lighting and rickety stairs to get to front door. Electronic keyless entry intermittently functional. We actually left after one night chosing to forfeit our second night fee. We recommend staying in the town of Rossland and driving up to ski!
- Sean (10/5): - Cozy and close to hill
- Jason (7/5): -
- Kelly (7/5): - Great ski-in location and hot tub. Charming retro ski vibe. Handy ski room facility. Easy check in. Accommodation seems to be run as a side business to their cat-skiing, so maybe hospitality not main focus of operation. Very thin walls.
- Sherry (8/5): - Location was great, common room was comfy. Nice to visit with fellow skiers. Boot warmers were unexpected. A rustic cabin atmosphere. Check-in was easy. No staff present to assist with missing kindling for the fireplace, or for replenishing coffee, etc. in the common area.
- Natalie (7/5): Great location, old school ski lodge vibes. Would stay again. - Location was nice and close to ski area. Check in was easy and room was comfortable. The parking instructions could have been clearer. We came in late and the parking lot in front of the Inn was mostly full. I didn't realize there was additional parking as it wasn't stated in email. I parked in what I thought was a space because there was no clear marking and ended up getting a parking ticket. Not a huge deal but instructions on the additional parking in the email and more clearly marked parking in front of the inn would be very helpful!
- Claus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clay (9/5): Superb -
- Francine (8/5): Very good - Lack of parking
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Brita (3/5): Stressful - Boot drying Walls are paper thin. Heard all the other occupants next door and across the hall. Terrible parking situation. We had a van that was smaller than other vehicles parked in the lot but were told to move the van. The parking situation at Red Mt is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Standing water/slush/ice makes it very treacherous walking. And the distance between the Inn and the parking is substantial. Considering this is a ski vacation the lugging of gear is absolutely awful.
- Travis (9/5): Superb -
- Bob (10/5): Exceptional -
- B (8/5): Very good -
- Terry (10/5): Excellent location a short walk to lifts, with an old school ski lodge vibe. - Red Shutter Inn is a funky old-school ski lodge. Very clean and comfortable. Location is short walk past one hotel building to the lifts and main RED base lodge. Parked in front of Inn. For slope-side lodging, it is a very good value, especially for serious skiers. Host is friendly and attentive, and lives on-site. We will stay again.
- John (7/5): Convenient accommodations with super hot tub, welcoming staff for access to a fun mountain. -
- Korngold (10/5): Best place to stay at red Mountain - I loved this inn. It is exactly as advertised. There are six rooms. With guest start skiing they often hang out by the fireplace and get to know each other. The hot tub is enchanting. The staff is lovely. The shower was tiny, but I knew this going into it. I wish there was a place to cook, but I also knew there wouldn’t be so I wasn’t disappointed by this
- Mccoy (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patti (10/5): Here to ski with friends for my first time in Rossland. Cozy and hospitable environment. Would definitely stay here agai - Everything! Great common room, hot tub. Cozy room and beds. Nice staff and friendly guests and close to everything you need! Nothing it was great!
- Morgan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bridget (8/5): Very good -
- Emilie (10/5): Exceptional - The outside hot tub. The cozy fire. The renovated bathroom. The proximity of the resort. Literally 3 min walk. Feels like a hostel.
- Irina (8/5): Very good - Location: walking distance to Red Mountain chair lifts None
- Richard (8/5): Worked well for a skiing with friends trip. Basic, cozy and warm. Friendly staff and friendly guests. - Cozy and close to the ski area. Nice hot tub.
- Lorraine (8/5): Very good - Great on ski hill location .
More like a hostel, with a wood stove in the living room and sitting to chat with fellow skiers. Small room but comfortable with your own bathroom..
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Taavi (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and cosy, lovely people all around, exactly what you want on ski holiday.
- Ronnie (9/5): Superb - Very clean. Would definitely stay again
- Elinor (7/5): Good - great position at red mountain- walking distance to the ski area smallish rooms & en suite but everything you need really
- Eric (9/5): Amazing mountain to ski and a great lodge for our stay. - The terrain is amazing! Plenty of varied terrain for all abilities.
- Daniela (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely wonderful, highly recommended!!
Walk to the the ski hill, welcoming staff, very warm, clean and comfortable rooms! Hot water, coffee maker, cozy common room with a fireplace. Ski boot holder downstairs, so nice!
- Carey (9/5): Superb -
- Kevin (10/5): We loved staying at the lodge. super close to the lift, very comfortable and a reasonably price. - Excellent facilities - living room, boot room, hot tub. Great location. nothing.
- Francis (8/5): Very good -
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Okay for the price - N/a
- Shayla (5/5): Lower your expectaions - Beds were comfortable and the location was great. The staff were friendly and the price is competative for the area but it really is more of a hostel experience. The walls are paper thin, i could hear the conversations of the people next door so clearly. And could hear everytime someone used the washroom above me. There was multiple incidents where there was no water at all, and staff were not on site to fix the issues in the evenings.
- Makiko (8/5): Very good -
- Kristy (7/5): Good -
- Mariah (8/5): Rossland was beautiful and I’m glad I went! - I enjoyed my stay here, the cat was adorable! We didn’t realize how small the room was until we got there but it worked for us.
- Mauro (9/5): Cozy, charming, relaxing stay. - The resident cat (Red) is the most sociable cat we've ever met, but not bothersome. A great greeter! The building has a ton of character and it is very cozy. There is no plug for the hairdryer close to the mirror or there is no mirror close to the plug. :-)
Nothing else. Everything else was great.
- Darcy (9/5): Superb -
- Kurt (8/5): - This is a ski cabin - no luxuries! Common space to share with other guests, comfortable but simple rooms. That said, you are walking distance to the ski hill and the staff / owners are top notch.
If you want no more than a great ski experience - like the old days! - then stay here. If you want luxury, this is not for you. I like it though :-)
- Rich (10/5): - Well kept, but older, ski lodge. Great central room with wood stove and a big red friendly cat.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - PROS: Close to the Broken Goat Race venue (two buildings down). Josie Hotel has a great restaurant and it's next door. Was able to park at the Inn and walk to everything.
CONS: While the cat is cute, there's an odour of cat pee when you walk in. This older facility is cramped, stairways are steep and narrow, and the place feels like you're staying in someone's old house. This probably wouldn't be an issue if you rented all of the rooms with friends; otherwise, you feel like you're constantly walking into someone's small living room that's full of strangers. Fortunately, the other guests were quiet but I could see where noise would definitely be an issue with a rowdy bunch.
When I arrived, I was told that my room had a leaky toilet and required the water to be turned on and off to flush (plumbing issues happen, I get it). The owner and plumber had to access my room a couple of times during my two-night stay and the toilet never was fixed.
I booked my room through Expedia eight months in advance using the option to pay the Inn at the time of arrival. Two weeks before my arrival, I got a call from the Inn, asking if I "still intended to come and could I please pay now, as there was a line up of people wanting the room(!)" I've never had a hotel make this request or press for payment ahead of time. I almost thought it was a scam. It's pretty disconcerting that your "reservation" may not be a sure thing.
- Stuart (8/5): Good place but hard beds - The building was really cute and had a wood fireplace in the shared lounge area which was great. Bathroom was small but shower had great water pressure. There was free wifi, coffe, and tea, but no downstairs sink in the shared living area. My only real complaint is that the bed was really hard and we both woke up with sore backs both nights and it definitely affected our sleep. That being said it’s right on the resort and was otherwise pleasant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The perfect pit stop! Red shutter Inn was adorable - big beds, clean bathroom, wonderful hospitality. Gotta love Red the cat! Will be back in winter for sure.
- marcus (10/5): Great hotel right at the mountain. - A group of 6 of us had 3 rooms and enjoyed every night. The included breakfast was a wonderful surprise, the food was amazing. Brandon the manager was a great host and guided us around the mountain as an added feature. We loved the red shutter!
- Kevin (10/5): Great Ski cabin hotel - This place is a great ski cabin type hotel. Nice outdoor hot tub.
- Dan (10/5): - Great sauna / hot tub. Wood fireplace. Rented us snowshoes. Enjoyed the early season snow.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Restful stay with friendly staff. - A friend and I visited Rossland to run the Broken Goat Ultra race in July, so we were looking for somewhere quiet and comfortable close to the race finish where we could rest and recover. Brandon & Megan were extremely welcoming, even providing a toaster when I asked. Our beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed spending time in the common area, watching TV and playing with the resident cat (so friendly!).
- Bill (10/5): hotel facilities not applicable - Very affordable but clean and comfordable. very much enjoyed the surroundings and the large deck. Did not have time to enjoy the hot tub and sauna but the big plus was free firewood.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very run down. Needs some tender loving care
- Ken (2/5): Bad choice! - No soap, no shampoo, no air conditioning, no television!
- Derek (10/5): Red Shutter Inn Rocks! - Fantastic place, and great people running this classic chalet. Excellent service for ride shuttles, and trail access. Maybe not for the jet set bourgeois, but that's what Whistler is for. Absolutely jaw dropping summer rates for one of the most beautiful, friendly, and relaxed places I've been.
Cheers.
