Guest Reviews
- Jesus (10/5): - Very good place! They’re very kind
- Scott (6/5): - Basic accommodations, pretty much as one might expect in Paris at this price point. Street noise was apparent but tolerable. Shared toilet is tiny... even for Paris. I'm 6'3" & 250 lbs, tight fit, to say the least. The fact one has to traverse a spiral staircase to get to the toilet is a bit unnerving (especially in the middle of the night).
- Sarah d (6/5): - It was a cute boho spot. 30
Stairs with no lift. Major problem is they
Locked the front door and You can’t exit without a key! Fire hazard! I had to leave at 6 am and checked the night before with the guy and he said just leave the key in the room. So I couldn’t get out the front door to the street and had to climb another 30 stairs(I’m 65) to get the room key to let me out of the hotel. Someone needs to call the Paris fire marshal or their equivalent.
- Stephanie (10/5): - I had a wonderful experience at Hotel de Nesle! Each room is decorated in a beautifully unique style. It felt very textured and genuine and warm—almost like staying in someone's home. The staff was so kind and helpful (staying up extra late to meet me, helping me find things, suggesting restaurants for dinner), and you can't beat being in walking distance to the Seine and the Louvre. I hope I can stay here again one day!
- Kamala (6/5): - The Hotel is a great price for a super location and an stay that should be expected for that combination. If you are used to large rooms, elevators, and luxury - this is not a good match. If however, you want a space that is simple, provides the basics, and you respect that older building in Paris have narrow staircases, shared bathrooms and tiny rooms, then you will be happy here. I brought my eldest to Paris for a graduation trip. As a young adult she will mostly find herself in hostels or hotels such as this one as a young traveler, so it provided me the opportunity to expose to her that she can travel, find a safe place to sleep, and what she can expect when she choses well. The hotel is charming with the murals in each room, the gentlemen who checked us in and out was very friendly and welcoming. The only things to know is there can be a lot of noise from the street, but that isn't the fault of the hotel. The location is walking distance to several metro stops, right in the Latin Quarter, so I think we made a great choice. We still had the privacy of a room with twin beds and a single, though narrow shower. If you go in with a reasonable expectation you will be delighted.
- Jon (4/5): - Very noisy at night and early morning.
- Anna (8/5): - Great location in the 6th arrondissement near many eateries, the metro and walking distance to sites. The hotel is dated but we got the top room with private full bathroom. 5 floor walk up the spiral staircase...try not to lean on the rails... Apparently each floor has a toilet near the window.
- nathalie (8/5): Séjour divertissement - Escapade dans Paris excellente .
- Nueng (6/5): - Good location
- Fabrizio (8/5): - Semplice e funzionale
- Rodney (8/5): - Excellent location, but property needs TLC. Staff is wonderful.
- Patricia (10/5): A wonderful hotel - This is an amazing hotel which offers excellent comfort for the lowest price in the neigborhood. Absolutely beautiful garden, fascinating decor in the reception, and my room was a work of art with painted walls.
- John (8/5): - Nice family...have been coming here for years. Great location and quiet street. Very unique
- Patricia (10/5): - Great location! Hotel has character with great staff! We stayed in a fifth floor room with no elevator! A little tiring but we limited our trips up and down! The staff offered to carry our bags upstairs! Room was big with small bathroom. Location was excellent with lots of cafés shops and restaurants!
Oud huis. Met trap, geen lift.
- fatma (10/5): - It is a great place to stay. Location is perfect. The design of the hotel is fantastic. You will feel that you are in a fairytale. Mohammed made me feel that i am home. He is super kind and helpful. I will definitely come again
- Kathryn (8/5): - A typical French hotel experience! The hotel is very clean, the bed was good and the location is awesome
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Sparse but comfortable. Authentic setting and nearby all that Paris offers! Slight smell of sewage from the street. Bed super comfortable; slept great. Bathroom is shared and in the hall. Mohammed at registration was very nice and thorough.
- William (10/5): - My wife and I enjoyed our brief stay at the hotel.
- Susan (8/5): - The location was very close to many of the sights. Great restaurants close by. Located on a quiet street. Quaint and affordable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very quaint and quiet hotel to stay with great location. Within walking distance to Love the atmosphere and vibe of the hotel and highly recommend, perfect for couples.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great staff both helpful and informative. Room lovely decorations and good beds. Needed more light in bathroom.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Fantastic location, very walkable, staff very helpful.
- Steph (8/5): - Unique atmosphere, beautiful neighborhood, great location. Very walkable. Would recommend.
Accueil charmant.Chambre originale.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bon accueil.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Service was good. The facilities were clean. Basic amenities good for the experienced traveler and the backpacker.
- adam (8/5): Bohemiskt hotell mitt i paris - Mysigt hotell men väldigt små toaletter och duschar.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Need to come back sometime! - Trip with my teen daughter. Perfect location, great room, cool decor, the friendliest service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was the second time I’d stayed at the Nesle. The first time was a one night stay on a layover in Paris, and I fell in love with the little garden out back and the cozy atmosphere, so I came back for 5 nights on my own a few months later. The Nesle will always be my Paris hotel. It’s super close to two different metro stations, plenty of good restaurants, and the guys at the souvenir shop up on the corner were very friendly. The first time I stayed there, I forgot my cell phone and management even kept it safe for me! I don’t have enough room to say all the good things about this place. This is by far the best deal in Paris. I wish I could live in Room 16.
- cindy (8/5): A great quirky place to stay - Very good value for money, quirky which is the great thing about it. Décor fun and clean and tidy.
The mattress was beginning to fall into the middle, or rather I did . Think it time for a new mattress but otherwise brilliant place to stay and location fabulous.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very unique property. Just lovely and charming. Staff extremely helpful. Warning no elevators or coffee. 2nd stay. First in1986. Many upgrades sincr then. Perfect neighbourhood.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great staff.Muhammed is very very helpful. Very nicely decorated rooms, great location, ,,,good buy
- Anne (4/5): - We arrived and decided not to stay here, place seemed not very clean with toilet across landing and no handbasin in it which to me is a definite no-no. While the hotel was cheap and the location really excellent, the place is run-down and nothing like the photos. While host was friendly and tried to accommodate us by offering a different room, on a 5-week trip around Europe, this hotel was easily our worst hotel experience
- Patricia (4/5): - I did not know there were 1 star hotels in 2018. Lovely location, shared bathroom in the hall, no breakfast. Think of a college dorm or a hostel
- tom (4/5): - Not in good condition . the room was up 5 floors not up a normal staircase but a narrow spiral one . the stair case was dirty the floors were dirty the room was dirty .The sheets where clean and thats about it .The toilet paper was on a roll sitting on the back of the tank wouldn t fit on the wall. a chair in the room was due for the garbage 10 years ago . location was ok and price was ok as well
- Dawn (8/5): - Great location … easy walk to the Louvre , Notre Dame, Musee D'Orsay. Near great cafes and galleries. The bedroom had character; the bathroom very up to date.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location but... - Fantastic location. The rooms are decent enough and I usually say “great place if you are using room just to sleep”. This lodging lacks any creature comforts, however, with low quality towels and the like. Business doesn’t seem designed for gaining repeat customers, just barely maintaining itself to snag one time customers wanting Left Bank locale. Room doors show signs of previous break-in attempts.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location, so unique! Short walk to Notre Dame and great cafes.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Didn’t get what I booked. No toilets in room! - I booked a room with a bathroom and only got a shower and sink. The description of what I paid for and what I received did not match.
Secondly, the location of the toilet on the floor was in a very dangerous spot; you had to cross over the circular spiral staircase to get to the small landing that had a small door to a small room with a toilet.
- Ronnie (2/5): - So disappointed...
- Angela (10/5): Pre Revolutionary character in great location - Good value for money in an area close to many attractions where hotels are generally expensive. Within a few minutes walk of Pont Neuf, and Notre Dame, on the edge of the Latin Quarter and close to many local restaurants. Built in pre revolution France so do not expect large rooms or elevators. Ours was clean and well maintained with a modern bathroom and decorated in period style. Owner and staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English. We would certainly use this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The price and location made this hotel attractive. It has unusual decor, not to our taste, but not offensive, either. The staff were helpful enough, although we had little need to interact. We had been warned about the long, steep, circular stairs, and it was no exaggeration! They are not recommended to anyone with balance problems. Our room was one of the ones with shower, which was nice, although it was so teeny small that only slim people could manage easily. The toilet in the hall required tiptoeing over some narrow steps. Best element was the beautiful terrace looking out over the garden court, which was a nice place to sit when no one else wanted to smoke there.
- Robert (10/5): Legendary Hippie Hotel Lives On! - I’ve been staying at the Nesle since the 1970s. It is still charming and a very good value. I recommend it for anyone.
- BMT (10/5): Perfect pied-à-terre style Hotel in the 6th - Cozy, quaint and in the heart of it all.
I was traveling solo and knew I would be spending 95% of my time out of the hotel enjoying the city.
Hotel de Nesle was a great find and perfect for my purposes.
Room was decorated in warm colours and vintage French advertisements adorned the walls. It was really classic and pretty much exactly what I was hoping for in a Parisien pied-à-terre.
- Ross (8/5): Good price and location. - Hotel de Nesle was exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for.
The price was reasonable for a New Year’s Eve reservation.
If I return to Paris on a budget, I would gladly stay there again.
- Yongphil (2/5): No elevator and the shared bathroom - My wife and son stayed for 2 nights and I booked for them. When checking in, they asked additional fee if not the shared bathroom, if not 4th floor.
Note there is no elevator, the stair is very steep.
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Fantastic Location
- Paul (4/5): Not good - The best thing I can say about this hotel is the location is great. Having said that in Paris you really have to pay a lot to stay in a good location. We realized this going in but we were still dissapointed with what we got for what was the highest priced room of our 7 week trip in France. First off we were quite surprised to find out we had no toilet in our room. The very confusing front page seemed to indicate private bathroom but upon rereading we discovered there was no private bathroom unless we paid a lot more money. Our room did not look anything like the pictures but the most disturbing thing was the black mold all over the wall by the window. I'm sure there are some nice rooms in this hotel but for 100 euros you don't get much.
- holly (8/5): Love this place and local!! - We love the price for the area! The owner Rene is a true Parisian and you feel as if you are at her home. There are no frills so don't look for room service or a concierge but the room is clean and spacious by Paris standards. Although each room is different and you need to ask for an ensuite bathroom if you want your own private one. We love it here! You can't beat the local!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Happy customer - My stay was pleasant and peaceful. Great location and amazing view.
- Carolyn (10/5): Very adequate budget hotel with great location - The location, friendly staff and "quaintness" are the best features of this hotel. My room was clean and comfortable. Don't expect 5-star amenities or prices, and you'll be fine. Room was large enough and had a table and chair, shower and sink, and the bed was comfortable, too. Best of all is the location - just 2 blocks from the Seine but on a fairly quiet street, yet convenient to the Odeon Metro and all the shops of Saint Germain des Pres.
- Terrence (8/5): - The hotel is well located with tourist attractions within walking distance. Despite the brief stating all rooms have frescoed walls ours did not. The room was basic and the shower/bathroom was small. We had problems communicating with the owner, a woman with no English. Other members of staff at reception spoke English and were very friendly and helpful. There is a lovely garden out the back but it is not being cared for which is a pity. Some of the rooms are large and gorgeous but sadly ours was basic. Lovely reception area. Quiet area. Close to transport.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - quirky hotel in a perfect location
- James (10/5): Best hotel ever! - Fantastically located, fun and quirky decor with a brilliant backstory. This is the perfect hotel for those looking for an alternative, well priced stay in the centre of Paris! Room was immaculately clean and well maintained. Compact basin and shower in the room with a shared toilet across the hallway. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating - a must-stay!
One note is to get the wifi working on a laptop you have to delete the DNS servers in the wifi settings and they'll reset to default.
Also if you're not aware of Parisian staircases you probably want to stay somewhere else!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Atmospheric, warm, welcoming. - Brilliant location and extremely friendly staff. The hotel is cozy, very warm. There is a spiral staircase to all rooms which anyone with a mobility problem would find difficult. Also, I did hear people coming and going from their rooms - but this is because it is a traditional old-style house - fabulous but lacks conveniences.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice cute little hotel - I cannot recall having to walk up all the stairs in a hotel last time, so it was a big surprise. However, the staff were friendly and helpful. Once I settled in the room, I realized there was no toilet! Another surprise. But they do have rooms with toilets, so be sure to ask them to switch if you ended up in my situation unintentionally. The location is superb and the room is clean.
- wayne (8/5): Fun Funky Hotel - Was in Paris for work at trade show at Parc Exposition but wanted to stay in town.
- Mel (8/5): Funny French Hotel - Stayed for 4 nights at a reasonable price for central Paris
Best features:
1) the lady at the front desk who was willing to carry on an entire conversation in French even as my own language skills were a bit rusty--she was hilariously terrific and kind
2) the street noise in the evening--the hotel is down a short and tiny, side road
3) shower in the room
4) no TV
5) the walk to the toilet . . . deadly, but interesting as the toilets are across the spiral staircase to another 1' landing
- Aldene Fauré (8/5): Feedback - The room was very small but very clean. Problem getting up the three flights of stairs with our cases. The people at the hotel were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was exceptionally basic but clean. Situated in a quiet area yet very central. Good location
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great Location - I was not impressed, having booked and been quoted a price for a room with a bathroom, to be told that this was not available. Eventually I was offered another client's room, but at a higher price. As it was evening and I had travelled a long way, I was in no position to look for other accommodation, so I was forced to accept the higher price.
The room was charming, but the shower was very small. I could not move without knocking the tap and changing the water temperature. The free wifi mostly worked, but was difficult to access.
- miranda (8/5): What the American thought. - Was an excellent stay. Very friendly and homey atmosphere. The owners were a gem and so helpful with all our needs. Only thing missing was a toilet in the room. May have been our fault for not picking a room with one though. Over all, it was a 10 out of 10. Loved how close it was the louvre and the bridges, close to food and the metro. This was an awesome stay.
- Anne (8/5): Comfortable, quirky, friendly. - We had a comfortable one night stay. The front desk service was friendly and helpful. The lobby is interesting, the hotel is quirky. There is no lift and we were on the 4 th floor... Fortunately not a problem. The hotel is within walking distance of many of the sights of Paris. We would stay at Hotel de Nesle again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not clean on arrival - Sink and shower had not been cleaned when we got the room. Told us they hadn't finished preparing it.
- Barbara (8/5): - Great location! Not the most comfortable, but is good for just sleeping.
- Verified traveler (10/5): An artist's loft for a great price - I loved the Hotel De Nesle. It is tucked away in an alley very close to Pont Neuf in St. Germain so it is comfortable walking distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre and the good food and atmosphere of St. Germain. It is also convenient to Metro stations and RER stations. There are only 18 rooms spread out on five floors. I was fortunate to have a room on the top floor which looked like an artist's loft where one could have imagined the great artists/writers staying back in the day. There is no elevator so I had to hoof it up five flights each day - not a bad situation (if you are able) to work off that rich French food! My room had a shower inside the room and a toilet just outside the room by the stairs.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Great place - I felt comfortable and safe
- holly (8/5): old world charm and great price for the local! - Perfect place to stay when on a budget. It is not posh but very charming, like walking into a little antiques store. You must be able to handle stairs and don't expect all the bells and whistles, but quaint and comfortable. Best of all is the local! I lived in Paris and was delighted by this area. The madame who owns the hotel is sweet but speaks no English but not to worry as the young man working there does well and is very helpful. Great place to hang your hat and fall in love with Paris! And the price is right!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable stay - I have a very comfortable short stay at this hotel. It is not in the best condition when you look at the details but it is comfortable and the rooms are good size. The Lobby did not speak english but were very nice.
- Sascha (8/5): Nice hotel located near city centre. - Hotel de Nesle is located in a narrow street off main roads in the 6th district. Building looks pretty old (say classic) but rooms and reception are lovely decorated by owner (each room seems to have own theme - despite reservation we could check out all available rooms to find the one which suits best). Note, rooms are spread over five levels with no lift. Bathroom is clean has hot shower and water pressure is good. Staff is friendly and helpful. Ideal location for price: plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants close by and only five minutes walk to bus, train stops and the river. Ideal starting point to explore city. Style of hotel is simple but has its own charm. Would recommend to everyone who does not bother indulging themselves in luxury.
- Richard (6/5): Not your standard hotel but enjoyed the stay. - On arrival the staff member gave us 3 sets of keys and told us to pick our room. Cool! We ended up choosing the one with the largest shower (18, shower is huge), missing the fact that it didn't have a private bathroom. Not a big deal, as I think only one other room shared it, but it's *tiny*. A large person would have a tough time. Only a spiral staircase available, so disabled persons can forget about it. Most staff spoke decent English and all were pleasant. Room service was not really a thing, with trash removal all we noticed. Kinda weird that way -- maybe they didn't like climbing to the top floor either. But the room was cute, the location is *superb* (and something they should add to "Rate Your Hotel"), and we'd certainly consider staying there again. Note that rooms are small and not great for families -- 1 kid at most I'd say.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good position, but...... - Good location in St Germain, but not too comfortable. The room was tiny. Bed was pushed into a corner, making it difficult for 2nd person to get in. Wardrobe was 2 knobs on the wall with coat hangers provided. No bedside tables. There was an ensuite bathroom, but shower was absolutely tiny and the fittings stuck out a long way. If you turned around, you hit the tap which either shut the flow off or (usually) turned the water scalding hot or freezing cold. The sink was so tiny that you couldn't get your face over it - very awkward to wash your face and clean your teeth. No racks for suitcases, one tiny little shelving system and one small desk. No tea and coffee, nothing else. No formal reception at the hotel, no breakfast or any food at all. Room was well heated, though. It was close to restaurants, shops, the Seine, metro etc and was cheaper than other hotels in the area. Up to you if you if you want to brave it.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Wonderful Hotel - loved this hotel! Perfect Location. It was very clean and the rooms were charming! I LOVED the neighborhood. I will definitely stay here again!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good experience - Great experience. The owners were friendly and very helpful, and accommodated our limited French. The rooms were definitely unique, but kept clean and comfortable. Would stay here again.
- Adam (10/5): I would definitely come again - I would definitely come back. Great location for the price. Clean hotel with access to well kept garden. Staff were helpful with offering more rooms of my choice.
- Verified traveler (2/5): good position but did get what we paid for. - We booked a double room with bathroom for 5 nights but spent the first night in a double room with shower and basin without toilet. After complaining to the manager we were moved to a single room with bathroom including toilet. We were told that we could be moved to a larger room with bathroom if we paid extra. There was no working wifi and we had to use cafes and department stores for Internet. The manager offered to move us to a hotel with wifi at her expense but I did not feel confident to take up this offer. Other guests complained of lack of wifi. I cannot recommend this hotel as what is advertised and booked is not necessarily what you get! This is unfortunate as the position of the hotel is excellent.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Horrible Reservation Management - This hotel cancelled our first nights reservation without ever contacting me or Hotels.com, who even sent me a confirmation for all three nights just days earlier! So when we arrived exhausted late at night from travelling we were told we had to stay at a place down the street. Needless to say we did not ever go back to Nesle, but totally recommend Hotel St. Pierre.
- Anne (8/5): Great location, lots of character - A n frills, quirky fun hotel with lots of character in the most convenient part of Paris. Exactly what I was looking for. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean.
- Ivan (4/5): Great location but don't expect much - Booked this hotel based on the reviews however based on our experience we do not recommend this hotel. This was our 6th trip to Europe in the last 9 years so we know what to expect from European hotels contrary to some reviews stating that you should not expect much from European hotels. We spent 25 days in France on this trip, stayed at 9 hotels and the other locations were all fabulous. An old hotel does not have to be a run down hotel. We stayed 4 nights in a room on the 5th floor. The reasons we are giving this location an unfavorable review are 1) It took the maid less than 10 minutes to make up our room after a complete change over 2) The floor was never cleaned and our towels were never changed during our 4 day stay 3) there is no place in the room to hang your cloths 4) poor lighting 5) cracked walls 6) cheap shower curtain with mold all over the shower. 7) the toilet paper dispenser was full of rust 8) the courtyard is a mess with old rusted lawn furniture 9) Our room had a toilet but if you get a room with no toilet you have to be cautious because the stairway to the shared toilet can be quite dangerous 8) the railing on the stairway was not stable 10) at night the motion sensor light in the hallway never worked.
The overall condition of this hotel was run down in our opinion and the condition of our room was so disgusting that it should not have been rented out. I am only able to attached 6 pictures on the review.
- Patricia (10/5): - the hotel is great value, the locatio is the best and the service is wonderful. It is not the place to stay if you have trouble walking stairs. I will stay there again. Loved the area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location, not so great hotel. - Great location hotel shabby. Owner spoke no English and was not friendly or helpful. Felt we were imposing on her by staying there. Bumped us up to a more expensive room... supposed to be best in hotel and it was unrwmarkable. She did have a young man who spoke English and was helpful when he happened to be there.
- Mark L. (8/5): A great little gem! - It's a 400 year old hotel building run by a woman owner who has owned the hotel for over 40 years. ..and with that comes the charm and personality you would expect from such a uniquely french boutique hotel. As long as you can handle stairs (no elevator) and no air conditioning, you will love this quaint hotel with a french family - home feel in one of the best locations in Paris...convenient to everything and great nearby shops and restaurants. ..a great little gem for the price!
- Taebry (4/5): Do NOT stay here - Very hard to get to, also parking was very expensive (50 Euros for less than one day). Checked in, walked up 5 flights of stairs in +40c heat with our luggage (no elevator or air conditioning), and opened our room to find someone sleeping in our bed... We were given a different room which was decent but we were very glad that we had only booked one night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Awesome - Not sure what to expect upon arrival but we took the top room and it was perfect for us. Situated in the perfect area and close to everything. For the price we would definitely stay again. Friendly service and a real pleasure.
- Remi (6/5): - Quaint and quirky hotel - basic but has everything that you need. Great location and the owners are super friendly and helpful.
- Olivier (10/5): - Great hotel !
- Tom (6/5): Simple hotel in great location. - I just returned from a week in the Hotel de Nesle. It is a good hotel if you want a simple affordable hotel in a great location. It's two blocks from the Seine, about 4 blocks from Notre Dame and about 3 blocks from Blvd. St. Germain. There are stores and restaurants all around. The hotel itself is plain, but comfortable. No TVs, phones or AC. Narrow staircase to the 14 rooms upstairs. A few blocks to the Odean and St. Michel Metro stops as well as the RER train line that runs straight from CDG airport. The bathrooms for some rooms are shared and in the hall. Rooms are small, but you're in Europe -- what were you expecting? There is a nice garden in the back with chairs to it in the shade. Rooms on the front side are noisier since there is a restaurant at the end of the block. (I shared a room on the front side with my daughter for a few days, then moved to a single room on the back side when she went back to the States.)
