Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely - The people not really can speak English but helpful, we lefts our luggage there until we come back from Machu Picchu, 10 mins walk from centre
- Claudia (8/5): More like an airbnb - This is a family house. Go there if you want quiet time. It's not close to the nice part of the city and many tours and taxis miss it bc the location is not great. But the rooms are small and you get privacy. That was what I enjoyed.
- Kevin (10/5): A Wonderful Little Hostel - Jimmy (the owner) and his family are very nice and were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice, the wifi was good, and the location is excellent - just a 5-10 minute walk from the main squares and markets
- Hitomi (10/5): Nicest hostel owner ever! - I never leave reviews, but the owner of this hostel helped us so much that I felt I should repay the favor. My father and I stayed here for the days before and after our Machu Picchu tour. On the day of the tour, the tour guide didn't arrive, and we were very worried. So the owner kept calling the tour agency until they finally picked up. He also let us keep stuff we didn't need during the trek upstairs, so that we could retrieve it when we came back. I had never been helped this much by anyone at a hostel/hotel before -- usually they just do what's listed on the listing, being standoffish and businesslike, but the owner here provided true hospitality. Overall the room was comfortable, there's free wifi, charging is great, and the people were very friendly. Thank you so much!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stop over - Jimmy was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, spending time with you to help you get your bearings and make recommendations on where to go. He has a lovely manner. The hostel is well presented at about a 15 minute walk from the centre. Good kitchen and lounging facilities. A big recommendation I would make is to have thick curtains for the glass doors and windows for keeping the rooms warm but also to keep the light out.
- Huixia (2/5): - It was terrible that when I got there 17th ,the door was closed and nobody was in it, and I had to wait about two hours and it was rainy at that time, but still nobody came back to open the door so we have to look for another hotel!! And the location is inconvenient and far away from the downtown!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok but didn't get the room we booked! - It was ok, however we booked a double room but on check in were advised there were none left. We therefore got put in a 2 bunk beds room (to ourselves) instead.
- Shun (4/5): Cold Shower and far from main square - This does not feel like a hostel and more like someone's house. We didn't meet many people and the English level of the host was not the best. The overall stay was ok and good for the price, however there is no hot water and my girl friend caught a cold having a cold shower. Not many places in Peru have hot showers but we managed to find a hostel in Cusco which does. The distance from the main square is about a 15 minute walk which is quite far for the amount of money you pay. We found better location hostels for the same price closer in San Francisco district. We stayed a total for 6 nights and the best benefit was that there was a kitchen. The breakfast bread was really stale so was not edible though the juice was nice. To conclude I think there are better options for your money.
- Pam (8/5): Very nice hostal owner and family - Under 10 min walk to San Pedro market and approx 15 min to Plaza de Armas
Owner and family very nice and helpful. 1 member of family has good English and the proprietor makes use with Google translate (to my own shame my Spanish is limited).
Breakfast is the basic bread, jam, cheese, juice and hot beverage
Beds were comfy and rooms clean.
Cons:
Bathroom: 1 bathroom and sink as well 1 bathroom and shower, occasionally line up for a morning shower.
if shower is too clod then turn down the pressure - it allows for more hot water to run.
Bathroom cleanliness is hit and miss but it is to be expected when there can be up to 10 people sharing a bathroom facility. Saw them clean bathrooms at least twice a day.
Only real concern was twice at night no water was available - couldn't figure out why and it was back on in the morning.
We paid 81 soles/night for 3 people
Price is fair and owner is lovely. They stored our gear for free while on Inka trail hike.
Last day my friends flight got unexpectedly cancelled due to a strike and the owner 's son helped them find a way back to Lima do they could catch their flight home. Their help was much appreciated in this stressful moment.
Depends on what your expectations are in an accommodation but overall positive experience - the water issue being the main complaint
- Narelle (8/5): Gr at position with Friendly helpful staff. - Large room with bathroom close. Large kitchen and lounge area for use, Very friendly and helpful staff organising taxi and tours. Breakfast included. Close to train station and markets.
- Adam (10/5): A Golden Getaway - My wife and I had a great stay with El Tumi de Oro. The family that takes care of the place is extremely friendly and takes care of everything for you. We had a problem with our transport to Machu Picchu (they didn't come to pick us up) and the staff called for us, straightened everything out and drove us to the van. Excellent service, great people, and great value for the cost. 5 stars!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value - We stayed for three nights prior to doing the Inca Trail. The owner is very friendly and made us feel at home with a nice family atmosphere. The location is a bit out of the way, but it's only a 15 minute (flat) walk to the central plaza, with lots of restaurants, shops and the San Pedro market en route. The room was a bit cool, but there are plenty of blankets. We would happily stay there again. It must be one of the best value places in Cusco.
- Fredi (8/5): Pleasing! - Great little place that is clean and cozy. The family that cares for the place is friendly and helpful. Nice place to stay when traveling on a budget.
