Guest Reviews
- Leigh (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay and enjoyed the area a great deal. Jim was a fabulous host and helped make our time there enjoyable. Extremely attentive to communication. We highly recommend!
- Jennifer (10/5): - The host was amazing, knowledgeable about the area , and made a delicious breakfast! Highly recommend
- Erica (10/5): - We had a great time staying here. Neither one of us had been to Cleveland before and it was a perfect location close to great restaurants and activities. The house is beautiful and the area around it is as well. James was a great host and fun to talk to during our amazing breakfasts. We definitely will be back.
- Gale (10/5): - Jim is a wonderful host! His dog and cat are so personable and polite too. The house is comfy inside and out. Breakfast was as delicious as the table setting was beautiful. A hidden gem!
- Kjell (10/5): - Charming 100year(ish) home in Cleveland’s bustling Ohio City neighborhood. Easy walk to bars and restaurants. Friendly host and outstanding breakfasts!!
- Jordan (10/5): - Exceptional, far better than a hotel. Factor in food & parking and it's worth it. The host Jim is very nice, & an excellent breakfast cook and good company in the morning. Spacious, comfortably decorated, cozy. Very conveniently located.
A charming experience for those wanting something more homely than your dime-a-dozen hotel.
- April (10/5): - Perfectly located to all major attractions (zoo, aquarium, science center, rock and roll hall of fame, west side market, botanical gardens, etc). Jim is an amazing innkeeper (and a wonderful cook!). Room was beautiful and quiet! A great place for a Cleveland getaway!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - You won't be sorry picking The Clifford House for a very personal experience with a fantastic host. All of Ohio City is within walking distance, & Jim knows the area like the back of his hand - there is something for anyone's preferences there. We had always stayed in downtown Cleveland before, & it seemed like we were Uber-ing to Ohio City all the time, so our decision to actually stay in Ohio City this time was a no-brainer, & Jim's B&B was the best choice for an accommodation - the amenities were out of this world (blueberry muffins - mmmmmm). We would/will stay there again without hesitation. Thanks, Jim!
- Jessica (10/5): So Much Charm!! - The Clifford House and its incredible host were perfect. The car and dog add so much character to a place that you wouldn’t think needed any more! The location was walkable to a great little district of restaurants, a cool market and breweries. If you love B&Bs, stay here!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location, and the design of the property was beautiful
- Ron (10/5): - Breakfasts were great. Great location for Cleveland Indians baseball games.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a quaint B&B. Jim the owner is so friendly and accommodating. Our clothes got soaked in the rain and he let us dry them in his dryer. Lovely dog and cat to greet you. A home away from home and the breakfast is awesome. The neighborhood is amazing and worth the trip. A home away from home!
- Ivy (8/5): Charming nest in Historic Ohio City - We were in Cleveland for the Shinto exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art. We chose the Clifford House because it looked charming and was well priced. We were delighted to find that it is in the historic Ohio City district, surrounded by interesting architecture and in a center of foodie culture. Near the West End Market. The landlord, Jim, is a fount of information about the area. He recommended Le Petit Triangle, a wonderful little French restaurant a few blocks away.
We were only two, but the little apartment would have worked for a small family with older children.
Terrific full breakfast.
Would definitely stay again.
- Zac (10/5): Would stay again! - Jim was very personable and served amazing breakfast. His pets were very well behaved.
- Ken (10/5): - We had a amazing time meeting James and the other guest. Breakfast was amazing and James was a great host. This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and the Clifford house did not dissapoint.
- James (10/5): - Great location. Jim was an excellent host & very attentive
- Laurie (10/5): Convenient and excellent location. - We truly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect, near many restaurants and breweries. The breakfast was phenomenal. We felt very welcomed!
- Mary (10/5): - Lovely home. Close to lots of things. Jim is a great host. I would go back and recommend to others
- Marc (10/5): Just remember to duck! - Everything was great, We were looking for something close the the Westside Market, and this was maybe 2-3 blocks away...easily walkable. The streets do get a bit dark at night, but the area was safe enough for that not to be a concern, crime-wise. There's a large supermarket nearby in case you happen to forget a few essentials, or want to grab a quick snack. And of course, how can you object to having a surrogate dog and cat when on vacation?
The larger room at the top is near the peak of the roof, so make sure to watch your head near the edges. I had one "close encounter" that way, and remembered to watch myself the the rest of the stay.
- Scott (10/5): Old school and excellent - If you're looking for an old school, real, authentic, and great experience of Americana this is it! If you are visiting Cleveland, which is also the same as i said, this is the place to stay and it's in walking distance of just about everything you need. Jim the host is extremely informative and is great for conversations and, an excellent cook!
- Richard R (10/5): I recommend - Nice place, nice host. He does have a dog that is present at breakfast but I like dogs so not a problem for us at all, well behaved
- Robert (8/5): Great B&B - Great B & B. Lots to walk to in the area. Over-all had to lower the star due to 3rd floor room with no elevator.
- Douglas (8/5): Great location near R & R HOF - We stayed in the part of the house that used to be an apartment, so we were separated from the main house with our own private entrance. That was unique, and very nice. We went into the main house for breakfast, and to visit with the dog, Sherlock, and cat, Wesley. Jim, the owner, was very hospitable and very knowledgeable of the local area. Breakfast was great! The house is civil war era built, and has a nice balance of modern amenities and eclectic decor. The house is a work in progress, so don't expect magazine photograph spit and polish, but comfortable, laid back atmosphere.
- william (10/5): B&B at affordable rates in Ohio City! - Jim is an excellent host, and the property is a treat. This is a great house in a great neighborhood and we highly recommend it!
- Sandy (10/5): Comfy B&B, Friendly Owner, Close to Nate's Deli! - My boyfriend and I recently spent one week (September 2016), and it was the perfect situation for us. The location was in "Ohio City", within walking distance of Nate's Deli, Mitchell's Ice Cream, the West Side Market, Great Lakes Brewery, and a grocery store. The owner, Jim Miner, was very friendly and loved to chat. Jim was accommodating and prepared vegetarian meals for us. You will NOT starve at breakfast. Be prepared. There were more types of tea than I ever would have expected (at least a dozen, likely more--I didn't bother to count), and Jim made sure that we had the option of caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee at breakfast (as well as OJ, jams galore, butter, non-butter options, 3-4 types of sliced bread, 3-4 types of granola, a massive fruit bowl, yogurt, bananas, and then whatever hot items Jim decided to make each day). Jim makes an excellent breakfast. He'll make you an omelette, pancakes, bacon from the farmer's market, a frittata. . . The room was also comfy. We stayed in the John Schneider Suite on the 3rd floor and had plenty of space for both of us to spread out our things. The wi-fi worked great. The bathroom is small with a slanted ceiling, but we always had the option of the 2nd floor bathroom for any of our bathroom needs. We had plenty of hot water, toilet paper, and towels, and the A/C kept us cool! We also loved the resident dog and cat. Give the dog's belly a scratch and let the cat in and out of the house, and they will love you, too
- Sandy (10/5): Wonderful B&B in heart of Ohio City - We stayed 3 nights in the Schneider Suite and couldn't have had a better experience. The house was out of a magazine and Jim, the owner, was an outstanding host. Each morning we awoke to a breakfast feast that changed daily and was made from fresh food bought at local upscale markets. Jim also recommended nearby restaurants and best RTA stops and had many interesting stories of the area. Overall this is a gem not to be missed!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent BnB - Owner is nice. Breakfast was awesome. The air conditioning worked well and was much appreciated. There is a friendly dog and a meandering cat. The room was spacious and comfy. I'm very pleased with the stay.
- Timothy (4/5): Bad Experience. - When we arrived we were Met by a Man looking like he just got out of bed,Messed hair, Disheveled clothes,he started telling us about room took us up to a Small room,ok i,ll let that pass,Then took us down to living room, telling us about breakfast,My girlfriend said she has food allergy's. His return COMMENT,was (OH I knew I would get one of you people someday!) Later My Girl friend asked for a fan for the white noise, and two extra pillows,(Reply) (Oh YOU MUST BE A HIGH MAINTENANCE WOMAN ) very snotty and insulting reply s, For $140 a night Room His ATTITUDE was Not Very Nice. We asked about parking, reply: ( JUST TRY TO FIND SOMEWHERE!) We were NOT MADE TO FEEL WELCOME AT ALL.!!!! Later when we came back i was moving my truck going around block,The Man/Greater Raced up behind Blowing his horn repeatedly ,then raced up beside me yapping theres a space open by my house theres a space open by my house, then proceeds to race in front of me ...That man was just Rather Rude, We did not feel welcome or comfortable at all ,So we Packed up and just left went back to Toledo,I waisted 140.00 Dollars To Be treated like We Were an inconvenience . We will Never Go there Again...
- Todd (10/5): Great B and B - Great location for visiting Ohio City and Downtown Cleveland.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Quaint B&B - Jim is a super host with a very friendly and engaging demeanour. The breakfasts were excellent. The neighbourhood is very walkable and near some really good brew pubs and a grocery store.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Jim and of course Sherlock and Wesley were a delight.
- Michele (8/5): - A beautiful home in a great neighborhood, great breakfast, an eclectic design, and a home owner that is social and enjoyable to chat with. Our first B&B experience was amazing!
- David (8/5): Very nice - Owner was a good cook; had an excellent breakfast every day. He also provided many interesting facts about the neighborhood and Cleveland in geberal.
- Gary (10/5): - Great place. Clean and very comfortable and the owner is a great guy. Very friendly and easy to talk to. I loved my stay and will go back next time I'm in Cleveland
- joanne (10/5): Clifford House - We enjoyed our stay very much. Jim is an excellent host and the dog, Sherlock and Cat (I forgot the name) add a bit of charm to the home. Breakfast was scrumptiously delicious. Highly recommend this B & B.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner is a very gracious host, extremely helpful, great breakfasts, etc. The neighborhood is close to many fine brew pub/restaurants. Excellent local market 1 block away.
- Dawn (8/5): Neat residential area of Victorian homes - Walk around a block or two to see wonderfully restored Victorian homes. Also within a couple blocks are many upbeat bars and grills as well as other shopping. Not far from Rock n Roll Museum and waterfront...lots of things closeby. Owner very cordial and knowledgeable of the area.
- Lauren (10/5): Relaxing in Cleveland's Ohio City Neighborhood - We stayed two nights to celebrate my spouse's birthday. Just a wonderful place and a great host. And, Sherlock, owner's dog was a treat - friendly and well-behaved. The Clifford House is so close to so many fun things to do. Dinner at Crop Bistro and Bar one night, lunch at Banana Blossom in Hingetown one day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Welcoming and the pets add to the home like feeling. Bed was comfortable. Had all the amenities needed. Breakfast was great and nice to socialize with other guests
- Cyndi (10/5): Wonderful getaway with good friends! - The boys wanted to try Great Lakes Brewery and finding this B&B a block away proved to be the best part of the trip. We shared the apt. which gave us our own private sleeping quarters and bathrooms. We had a wonderful host in James and Sherlock(the dog)who gave us good information on where to go and what do. With the brewery and restaurants within walking distance, it was the perfect place to stay for our little getaway. Just wished we could have stayed longer. And if you have the time, the 45 minute drive to Debonne Winery and Cellar Rats Brewery was an easy and worthwhile trip.
- Richard (10/5): One night stay in Cleveland - My wife and I spent one night at The Clifford House. We chose this location as we were looking for a place to stay to visit with family members in the area, experience the Ohio City nightlife plus a place close enough to go watch a Brown;s game without having to endure the high parking fees at the stadium..It turned out to be a great decision overall.
The place lived up to our expectations. The room was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed a great night's sleep and Jim's breakfast was awesome.Sherlock and Wesley were very friendly. We love pets so we knew what to expect.. We will be back when we return for another game.Maybe next year.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice quaint home in the heart of Cleveland - Very accommodating host. Beautiful rooms, and great breakfast all in a great location within walking distance of some great restaurants.
- Kate (10/5): great experience - I had a great stay at the Clifford House. The accommodations were great, breakfast was delicious, and there was so much to do in Ohio City, all within walking distance. Highly recommend!
- Sara (10/5): Wonderful place! - This was my first B&B experience and it couldn't have been any better. Jim makes you feel right at home and is very kind. The dog and cat are great company as well! Very comfortable and quiet stay. Amazing breakfast! Also close to plenty of bars, breweries, and restaurants! Definitely plan on staying again in the future. Big thumbs up!
- Melissa (10/5): Great place - What a great find right in the heart of Cleveland. Charming & quiet. We were going to the Q and it was a
lovely brief walk over the bridge to the venue. One of the most comfortable bed/rooms I think we've ever stayed in. Breakfast was great & not uncomfortable like they can be at B&Bs ;) And they have some adorable pets. Love to go back.
.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Madison apartment is huge and quiet - I almost couldn't believe how much space we had for the three of us (my son, my husband and myself). The apartment is comfortable and private and very quiet. Be aware the stairs to it are steep. There are many restaurants within walking distance, and going to Mitchell's for ice cream is a must. Breakfast was delicious and Hollywood the housekeeper was a cheery fellow. I appreciated being able to park off the street.
- Dawn (10/5): Great Bed and Breakfast - Everything about The Clifford House was wonderful. Jim, the owner, is very friendly and down to earth. A great cook too! A great place to stay without worrying you'll breathe too hard and break something. It has a lived-in, at-home feeling. Wish we'd had more time to spend at the BnB itself but we walked to dinner at Great Lakes and the Q for a concert. Very safe feeling neighborhood for 2 women to be out walking late at night. We'll definitely be returning to the Madison Suite for another stay. It's like an apartment not just a room.
- walter&Ann (6/5): Great location in Cleveland urban area - We loved staying at Clifford House with a couple of caveats. The dog which we knew about was not well disciplined and barked almost non stop at breakfast right at the table. This was distracting and made conversation difficult. We regret saying this as the innkeeper was delightful, food delicious and room really nice, but feel we would want to know this when booking. If this does not bother you then this is a perfect place to stay.
- Barry (8/5): Location not convenient to downtown. - There for GOP debate
- Lee (10/5): Clifford House, Ohio City Cleveland Ohio - Jim, Our host was spot on Entertaining. Breakfast was most accommodating and fun with the other guests. The B&B location was great, just 2 blocks off the main street in the Ohio City area of Cleveland. Just stayed for one night but would definitely stay there again.
- Amanda (10/5): Great B and B, very close to downtown Cleveland. - I loved seeing the dog and cat, as a pet lover, being away from my animals can be hard. James was very welcoming and did not pressure us into eating breakfast, which some B and B's do. The home was very clean. It also has a great porch for if you want to hang out outside.
- RnN (10/5): The Clifford House is a Great Place to Stay - Our stay was very pleasant. The owner/host/resident Jim greeted us warmly and introduced us to his precious dog Sherlock and sweet cat Wesley. We stayed in the upstairs room which was spacious, containing everything we could need. The breakfast was delicious and took into consideration my dietary restrictions. We enjoyed the conversation with Jim and the other guests. We highly recommend this lovely Bed & Breakfast.
