The staff is welcoming and helpful and provide a truly friendly service. Excellent price/quality ratio. We stayed there on a half board base. Food is creative and excellent and even half board have a large choice (with reasonable price additions for a few specific choices). Thank you to the hotel family leadership and the whole team.

The Baren hotel hosted our reception dinner (for 20 people) and they completely exceeded our expectations. Planning a wedding in a different country can certainly be overwhelming, but Nicole helped ease every worry of mine. She walked through every step with us via email and videocall. She made the vision I had come to life! Everything was perfect and so beautiful! We are so thankful for the team at the Baren Hotel, they did not miss any detail with our dream wedding and the service was exceptional. We look forward to our next visit, cheers!

The room was very clean and had a great view of the mountains. The breakfast had a great selection of items to choose from and the service excellent. Questions we had were completely answered by whoever was at the front desk. We love this area of Switzerland and will try our best to get back again!

Breakfast each morning was very good and we made a wise decision to go with the half-board, because the four dinners we had were outstanding. With all of that said, the quality of the staff at the hotel perhaps exceeded even the exceptional room and restaurant. Everyone we encountered over our stay was professional, kind, helpful, and friendly. We almost felt like family by the time we checked out; it has my highest recommendation.

- Connie (10/5): I had a lovely stay and would definitely stay here again! - The hotel is downhill from the train station so you have the uphill to return. Most anywhere you stay in Wengen will have a hill involved. I really appreciated the hotel staff and the owner. They were very attentive and friendly. I had a lovely room with a balcony. All in all, I really enjoyed staying here especially having the best restaurant in Wengen right there. My breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Even if you aren't staying here, please consider eating at the restaurant. The chef has a garden beside the hotel where he utilizes what he grows into his dishes. If you are tall, be aware that some rooms may have a slanted ceiling at the bed and if you aren't careful you can bump your head. I'm short so it was never an issue for me. Also, my bathroom shower was tight. These are things to consider if you are tall and a little bigger. I would not let that stop me from staying here if you make clear that you are tall when reserving your room. I bet there are other rooms to accommodate you.

- Beth (10/5): Very nice hotel - We really enjoyed our stay! We booked a family room and it was a perfect set up with two twins beds in two separate rooms. The breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. The best part of our stay was dinner at the hotel; it was truly a first class experience...the food presentation is impressive, and the meal itself was incredible. I enjoyed the curry vegetables with jasmine rice and it was delicious. Overall, we had a wonderful time!

- ACG26 (10/5): Wonderful hotel - We stayed for a week with a package that includes lodging, breakfast and dinner, and transport on all of the regional trains and lifts. The latter is important for accessing a large number of hikes of all levels, always surrounded by beautiful scenery. The Baeren is a small family-run hotel in an amazing location. The mountain views from the rooms are stunning, the restaurant is the best in Wengen, and the owners and staff are uniformly friendly and helpful. This was our fourth stay at the Baeren and we will be back again soon.

- ladycaterina (8/5): Solid stay in Wengen - I've stayed in Wengen a couple times (once at Edelweiss and once at Beausite). Hotel Baren is good but not amazing. We had a family room which was quite large (consists of two adjoining rooms and 2 bathrooms). One of the rooms has a view of the mountains and has a balcony. The other (where we stuck the kids) does not have a view but is totally adequate. The breakfast was good (my kids loved boiling their own eggs with the timer), and we paid for the half-board - the dinners were good. The location is also good - right down the hill from the train station (<10 minute walk). It doesn't get a 5 star from me because the housekeeping needs some work. We left our neck pillow on a shelf and when we left, it was literally covered in black dirt. I actually ended up throwing it out! And when we came, the water canister was only half-full; it was obviously left over from the last guest and not cleaned or refilled. I think the family room is good but next time I might try something else.

The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We had dinner at the restaurant the first night and it was top-notch. I highly recommend this hotel.
- elieser2025 (8/5): Beware booking through Expedia! - I booked through Expedia several months ago and was quoted/charged one price with a 50% deposit, when it came time for the trip I was charged about $200 extra for the second half. At final checkout I was told I owed even more through what I was told was a ‘glitch’ in the system by the front desk staff that in total was close to $400 USD more than what it should have been. I swallowed my pride, as we had a train to catch and this was just a small piece in what was a very expensive trip already, but people should be aware they aren’t honoring prices quoted through Expedia.
- Q67KXrickt (2/5): Hotel Guest Limit : 2 Glasses of Ice for your Celebratory Champagne... - " you Americans and your ice" All I asked for was enough ice for the little bucket that was provided in the room for our 1/2 Bottle of French Champagne we brought from Paris to celebrate our 55 anniversary. They knew we had booked their hotel for our celebration, documented in several emails. We booked 6 months in advance for the best room and a celebration dinner in thier restaurant. The girl at reception was having none of that. No amount of begging would get us more than two small water glasses of ice, they couldn't be bothered with chilling our Champagne for us. We were given the worst room in the Hotel, 1st floor at the end, right on the road where the little hotel trucks ran up and down all day escorting their guest back and forth from the train station to various hotels below the Baren. We stayed one night, did not celebrate in the restaurant and left 2 nights early (paid for) These people were the most inhospitable we have encountered on our trips to Europe. They obviously had a problem with Americans. (we are non-political and were not wearing MAGA hats or clothes). We are non-demanding unassuming folks who love people and embrase all walks of life in our travels. Is a bucket of ice to Beg for just too much? Apparently so. So rude. Nasty even. We didn't want to stay where we were not welcome and left for Bern. FYI; this hotels ventalation system was inadequate for the shower so they ask that all guest leave the bathroom door open and open a window to clear out the steam. The towels were thin and thread bare. There is no refrigerator in the room, only one in the hotel where you can buy chilled drinks at a steep premium. No Champagne. Avoid at all cost if you are American, the young heavy-set dark haired girl at reception. Who claimed to be the owner. (daughter?)

- X6907KLnancyw (10/5): Wonderful Wengen - We had a wonderful experience at the Hotel Baren in Wengen. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. We had the room with the soaking tub and an absolutely beautiful view of the mountains. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the tub was great after a hard hike. Be prepared for a short uphill walk from the hotel to the town, the train, or the gondola. The staff gave us great tips about hikes and more, and the lobby is filled with helpful brochures. We found it very convenient to reserve with half board - it was easy and the food was excellent. We did see the people in the room next door sometimes when we were on the terrace, it is not totally private, but it worked out fine. Overall, we had a great experience staying here!

- Nicole (9/5): Perfect hotel to stay in this beautiful town - We were a family of 3 adults staying in the family room. The room was very clean and comfortable and quiet at night. We were able to sleep with the windows open to let in cool air after the warm summer days. Location is close to the Coop, Main Street of Wengen and train and gondola stations albeit the hill is hard work. Luckily they will transport your luggage up the hill when it comes time to leave. We loved the breakfast in the restaurant and whilst we didn’t eat dinner there we did pop in for a drink late one evening. The front desk and restaurant staff were all very friendly and helpful. It would be great if there was a guest laundry. We were on a month long holiday and regularly needed washing facilities. The 2 washing machines and driers at the public laundromat do not meet the demand of all the tourists in the town so we were having to spend time there late at night or early morning before we started our day and had to hang wet laundry around our room.

The half board is a must - each dinner we looked forward to after a day of hiking and it always exceeded our expectations. Breakfast delicious also. You can see that the owners and staff take great pride in the menu and drink they offer and it is a perfect place to stay for a family that loves to hike and loves local, healthy and quality food. We had an amazing view of the mountains and could hear the bells on the sheep just down the road… and see the bunnies playing just outside our window by Hotel Edelweiss. One in our party did not receive her luggage in Zürich and the staff went out of the way to contact the lost luggage department, notify us, contact the station to make sure it would be open when it was delivered, Retrieve our luggage. They were helpful in every respect. Accommodations were lovely. Had a beautiful view from our balcony room. The room was spacious. Gorgeous location very close to the Co-op and the station. A hill to walk up to get to the station, but they bring your luggage to the station for you! We do wish the pillows were a little fluffier
- Yee (10/5): Memorable experience - Our family of 4 stayed 3 nights at the chalet that had a great mountain view as shown in the website. The chalet was spacious with 2 bedrooms (1 with double bed and the other with 2 single beds). Both rooms had a desk. There is one bathroom with a shower (no bath) and a separate toilet. There is also a separate sink to wash your cups and water bottles etc. There is a small fridge with enough space to store fresh fruits, coffee machine and very nice tea bags including herbal teas provided. Although there is no fan there are many windows and the cooler evening mountain air meant the trmperature was quite comfortable at night on one of the 30 degree days that we were there. We did half board with buffet style breakfast and 3 course dinner provided. Both were excellent. Recommend you take up this offer if you have the chance. Its great value and you won't be disappointed. For breakfast there is a variety of homemade breads, jams, butter, cereals and yoghurts. There is bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, and variety of hams. There is also different kinds of juices. There is also a water bath machine that allows you to boil eggs to your liking e.g. half boiled, soft or hard boiled. The food was plentiful and delicious. Recommend you try the different breads. I especially liked the 'nut bread'. For dinner there is good variety of starters and mains to choose from with generous portions so you are not left still hungry afterwards. All the dishes we had were very yummy that contained very fresh ingredients. The desserts were also great and also good selection of drinks. Also, the chef was able to make delicious dishes that cater to my dietary requirements without garlic and onions. So recommend that if you have dietary requirements that you inform the pleasant staff well in advance - the chef may be able to cook yummy dishes to your needs. Nothing

The view was the best in Wengen, location was prime, and the complimentary breakfast each day was great before a big day of hiking and exploring the region. They even took our bags up to the train station for us upon check out. Would highly recommend!

- trvler4ever (10/5): Absolutely wonderful visit!! - My entire family of 7 (2 grandparents, 2 daughters, 1 spouse and 2 grandchilren) recently stayed here for 1 week and the visit was absolutely perfect! Wengen is my most favorite place on earth and I wanted to share that experience with the rest of my family. I had stayed at this exact hotel about 10 years previously, so I remembered fondly the wonderful balcony views and delicious meals. The fact that the hotel was still under the same personal management as before, gave me confidence that I would not be disappointed in a visit 10 years later, and I was not! If anything, the food was even better than I had remembered! The rooms themselves are clean and sunny with comfortable beds and everything needed for a comfortable stay. From our balcony we had a gorgeous view of the Monch and Jungfrau mountains above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. What makes this hotel a standout is the careful attention and friendliness of Therese and Willy Brunner (the owners) as well as of the hotel and restaurant staff. Everyone was interested in our plans for the day and had suggestions if we needed them. When my daughter sprained her ankle on a hike, Therese insisted on providing ice for it from the kitchen. When my granddaughter broke her permanently attached retainer and needed an emergency dental visit, one of the staff made numerous phone calls to arrange for a dental visit in Interlaken. There are a million various activities available to the tourist in the Bernese Oberland, and we participated in many of them, but as I said 10 years ago and I repeat now, I would be happy merely sitting on the balcony and looking at the view for the entire visit--it is that beautiful!! I can't wait to come back!

We made a mistake in booking a double room instead of a triple, and the owner went our of her way to get a spare bed for our daughter. They have an excellent restaurant too. It was summer but the room had an electric fan which helped a lot. A/C was not needed at all, at night the temperature was cold. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will stay again in the future.
- Rebecca (10/5): I would definitely stay again, wonderful staff & the best room we had of our entire week in Switzerland. - We had a room with a view of the mountains, plus we had a huge balcony w/table & chairs, it ran the length of the room, which included a sitting area, a toilet room, & a large bathroom w/free standing tub with view of the mountains. Staff were awesome. They made sure I had a fan for the warm nights, the coffee maker was unique & the restaurant on the property was delicious. Dinner was good but expensive but the included breakfast was delicious! All the things you could need like blow dryer, shower gel, etc. When I asked for a sheet to sleep under….comforters are hot, they wouldn’t give me one, instead gave me a blanket/throw but it was hot too. They should offer the sheet for those of us who are hot, there is no air conditioning so a sheet is a must.

The room was wonderful with great amenities, the location stunning and the food amazing. But it is the brilliant staff that made our stay truly memorable. They are all so friendly, helpful, attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. One night the dessert special had run out and my husband was really looking forward to trying it. The next night the chef had made one especially and let us know they were keeping it for him to have after dinner. Not only that, my husband said it was the best dessert he had ever eaten! The hotel is down a steep hill, so on leaving your luggage will be driven up to the station, which was greatly appreciated too. Nothing

Wish we could have stayed longer but we had to push on our journey. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Only one comment, make sure you get a room with balcony, makes all the difference!

The restaurant is excellent and they have an amazing cellar of wines. The buffet breakfast is always a treat. Theresa and Willy, the owners, are always anxious to help guests in any way they can.

The ingredients are all local and the dishes are tasty and well presented. Best meal we had in Wengen over a 2 week period. Should have returned!!

- 774penelopes (4/5): Don't book the Hotel Baren in Wengen - We stayed in the Hotel Baren Wengen from 27 Dec 2024 to 2nd January 2025. The bedroom we had was probably the worst room we have ever stayed anywhere in the world. It was 'shoe box' size, very old fashioned, the beds were two very small, narrow singles and the bed linen was grey, unironed and very rough linen style fabric like you might make a garment of clothing out of but definitely not use as bed linen - it was extremely uncomfortable. The room was so small that in order for me to get to the bathroom I had to either climb over my husband or crawl to the end of the bed to get out! This is ridiculous! You do not put 2 people in a room that is so obviously for one person only! I complained to the receptionist who told me that the measurements of the room were made clear at the time of booking. I have scoured our Booking.com paperwork and there is nothing about the room size. She told me it was a 'COZY' room - I have no idea what a COZY room means - if they insist on using such an ambiguous, fancy names to describe what can only be described as a 'rabbit hutch', then they must make 100% clear what 'COZY' actually means!! To make matters worse the chambermaid could clearly not be bothered to make the beds or change the water glasses or polish the chrome in the bathroom etcetc. We paid CHF 1616.00 for this room . I feel totally ripped off and would never, ever darken their doors again with my presence. When we tried to lodge our complaint and get some compensation, the receptionist refused outright and instead asked us if we were planning to come back to Wengen obviously wanting to try and prove us wrong in our judgement of the hotel by offering us another stay. We would definitely come back to Wengen, but would NEVER stay in the Hotel Baren Wengen again nor would we recommend it to our friends or family!

The main drag in the town had a great atmosphere and there were some nice shops We loved Wengen so much that we are considering returning to do some hiking in the summer and wouldn't think twice about going back to ski The mountain restaurants were plentiful but hard to find one that served really good food. We found the waiting staff in some of them to be rather abrasive and rushed. The choice of good restaurants in the town was pretty limited and the quality of what we had was good but not great.

We literally can not fault the hotel and the staff- it was an excellent experience. The food was of a very high standard and we heard people in the resort saying, 'if you want a really good meal, you should go to the Baren.' We last stayed here 9 years ago and the family who own it, take great pride in modernizing things each year. The bedrooms are modern, clean and have an individual touch. The balconys have spectacular views of the mountains. And the staff were very friendly and professional. Downstairs in the basement has a room for table tennis, which was perfect for teenagers. Our experience was easily a 5 out of 5 rating. Well done to the Baren Team and thank you. A and S Jordi

The staff is fantastic! I'll be back. I had no idea where to stay when I arrived. I checked out the usual hotel reservation sites and decided to walk here and check it out. A smiling Maresa greeted me and gave me a quote much better than any of the hotel sites. I was only going to stay 1 night, but stayed 3. Love this hotel!

- JorgeparaSaoMiguel (10/5): Beautiful views and close to the train station - The Hotel Bären has stunning surroundings and near the train station. The rooms were clean though on the small side. The owner and staff was fantastically helpful everytime we had had questions. This is not a complaint because the hotel is in a great location but if you are older you are probably wise to call a taxi to bring you to the station. It's uphill to the station and while most of us have no issues this is a challenge for some. We loved Wengen and think this was perfect for us. We did have the breakfasts and had all the normal choices, but we did not do the half-board meals because we were always out enjoying the area. Without hesitation we would stay here again.

- Picturque (10/5): A Scenic and Peaceful Wengen - A picturesque view of the Jungfrau mountains from the balcony. The room is cozy. Easy access to different nature trails leading to Lauterbrunner, Allmend etc. A beautiful and peaceful village. A walkable distance to nearby Coop, train station and shops.

- DianaF985 (10/5): Must go and stay! - This spot is nestled into the side of a mountain with amazing views. Wengen in general was a fabulous place to enjoy some down time. The hotel room was spacious, and you must get a room with a balcony. On the balcony is a small table two chairs and blankets provided to sit outside and keep enjoying the spectacular view. Since I prefer a cold room to sleep, keeping the balcony door open enabled a good night's sleep. The only preference for me would be pillows that are not down and flat, but that is personal. Hotel staff, including owner, were all a joy and made my stay easy and comfortable.
