The bed and mattress were very comfortable, so we slept really well. Everything was spotless and well maintained. The location is also very convenient, close to everything we needed. there was nothing we didn’t like,we had a really pleasant stay and would happily come back.

Staff were excellent at reception, friendly and offered early check-in and late check out. Well located near metro, bus stop and wothin walking distance to main sights. Safe area and clean.

Food: No issues; everything was satisfactory. Value for Money: 4/10. Other: Overall, the level of luxury did not meet expectations for a hotel rated five stars. - Upon arrival, it became apparent that the agreed early check-in had not been applied - indicating a lack of reliability. - The hotel made no effort to discuss or address the unfair fees incurred due to their error at check-in. - I was required to spend my own time submitting a formal complaint regarding the check-in experience.

- 2love2hike (4/5): Alleged best available in Almaty - This hotel boasts 5 stars. It was allegedly a 5 star hotel in communist times. Hello, thankfully those times are a thing of the way back past. The water in the shower went from comfortable to ICE cold. That coupled with the slippery shower floor was a total hazard. The rug in the room should have been replaced at least 10 tears ago. The surfaces were very clean, kudos to the excellent help… it’s just the basics that need a major overhaul. Daytime front desk staff are A+. Afternoon/evening D-.

The reception staff helped a Lot with taxis and getting around town and the vleaning ladies we're very kind. Everything was superb.

- 685vadimn (10/5): - If you want to treat yourself without treating your wallet like an enemy, Dostyk is the move. It’s got all the trappings of a five-star hotel minus the crowd, the chaos, and the corporate gloss of the big chains. Tucked away in the Golden Square area (think: Almaty’s old-school city center), the location is pitch-perfect. Most museums, parks, and restaurants worth their salt are within a leisurely stroll, but somehow the hotel stays blissfully quiet, as if it’s been grandfathered into a calmer era. There’s some history here too: this was where the Soviet bigwigs bunked down back in the day. You can feel it in the thick doors, the broad hallways, and the just-so marble. Not flashy, but confidently elegant, like a retired general who still knows how to wear a suit. Rooms? Spacious. Bathrooms? Massive and borderline spa-like. Robes, bidet, separate tub and shower—basically everything short of a singing butler. The restaurant downstairs serves up excellent Kazakh dishes, but if you're feeling restless, Teplitza is open 24/7 just down the block and has a large outdoor patio. They’ll even pick you up from the airport: clean branded van, professional driver just outside the customs, your name on a sign, the whole deal. And for less than what a cab would charge. Skip the swarm of self-appointed taxi drivers at arrivals and just float right to your ride. Are there quirks? Of course. The shower sometimes plays "guess the temperature," the front desk won't exchange your cash (but the bank next door will), and the pillows could stand to be a little more... American-sized. The bar downstairs is beautiful but rarely lively, more a place for a quiet nightcap than a spontaneous toast with strangers. Still, none of that really detracts from the whole experience. Dostyk is understated luxury, the kind of place that doesn’t need to shout to impress. It just is. TLDR: a quiet slice of luxury and an incredible value for the money.

Room was better than I had expected given the price I paid. Breakfast buffet was excellent if not effusive. Love the local options. Lobby is grand. Location central. A/C struggled during hot spell.

- rdrumm2 (4/5): Not 5 star so far - Not a 5 star for sure. If you’re an Expedia customer, no “upgrade”. They put us on the 2nd floor and when I asked if they had anything on a higher floor they claimed they were full. But the hotel is practically empty. Clean, and nice lobby but basic.

- Даурен (2/5): Needs complete renovation. - The cleaning department staff were polite. Old hotel with squeaky doors; stained faucets, flimsy pillows, inadequate climate control (too hot), extremely hot bathroom floor, the toiletries are of average quality (not suitable for a 5-star hotel).

- Kristina (8/5): Good located nice place to stay, overpriced - Great location, breakfast was good, rooms were not retro as we expected however modern and ok for stay, lights were automated and took some time to understand how they work we expect to see more retro, old fashion style facility, little-bit overpriced

- Zhanybek (9/5): Suitable place for winter vacation - Kindly staff on reception changed room for another without any additional fee. Everything was perfect. Breakfast, location in centrum of Almaty, spa and swimming pool, comfortable rooms. Host girl in spa was kindly. Curly Sue Suzanne. Nothing. But I recommended to notify guests (written announcement) to get shower before swimming pool.

- James (8/5): Well located and reliable hotel - The hotel is well located. The rooms are spacious with nice bathrooms and the beds are comfortable. The reception team were always fast and helpful. The airport pickup and check-in experience was speedy which is appreciated when you are tired from travelling. The breakfast was quite basic and didn't really live up to 5 star hotel quality. The hotel is quite dated in its design which I don't mind so much but worth to be aware of.
- Alessandro (2/5): An old Soviet-style hotel with no soundproofing and old facilities. - The bar is open until late at night; although prices are quite high. The rooms have no soundproofing, and from the early morning the housekeepers can be heard talking, vacuuming, etc. The pillows are small and not comfortable.
