Guest Reviews
- Anthony (10/5): - Always love it
- Ismail (4/5): - Location is okay !The booking was for a 2-bedroom villa with a private swimming pool. Once we arrived and asked about it, the lady at reception told us that it was not included and said it was a Booking.com mistake. She also said there were no available villas with private pools, even though the rooms right beside us were empty the whole time we stayed there.
Breakfast was also supposed to be included, but it barely looked like breakfast at all. It only consisted of baked pastries, tea, and coffee — nothing more
- Kelly (10/5): - Loved it, beautiful serene and peaceful. Nothing to dislike.
- Martina (8/5): - We were not told that the breakfast was served from 8AM and since we had to leave before 8AM we were not able to have some food or even get packed sandwich or some fruit although we paid for it.
- Simon (7/5): -
- Jessica (6/5): - The hot pools. Natural mineral The continental
- Stuart (8/5): Old Fashion hotel experience - This is my second stay at this historic hotel. Love the food and drinks. The free breakfast was a nice bonus.
The rooms are really old fashioned and feel like you are back in time. Hot pools were crowded by families and children at night time. Not appropriate for a romantic weekend.
Our queen bed was two singles pushed together. No refrigerator in the rooms for storing any cold food you may have.
- Jeff (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable - Beautiful setting , close to Hobbiton movie set, loved the reception areas inviting, warm and cosy and staff were very welcoming No complaints
- Ruru (9/5): Old style charm - Nice old character building that has been well kept. Comfortable and warm. Great having the restaurant and bar down the hallway. Not so negative but the walk down to the hot pools at night could have been easier with a few lights. Pools were included in our stay so can’t really complain.
- Alyssa (9/5): - Very homely, cosy atmosphere. Enjoyed the heated blankets. Friendly staff. Hot springs were magical. Room was spacious. Complimentary breakfast had a nice range of sweet/savory options. Land was beautiful. Lighting on the way down to the pool at night could have been better.
- Jan (9/5): Peaceful location. Friendly staff. A great place to getaway. - Location was very peaceful and the property had an old world charm. Very friendly staff, good food at the bar and easy access to thermal springs and a 9 hole golf course.
- Daniel Hugh (9/5): - Great hot springs, nice, clean and spacious room. Meals were great
- Michael (5/5): -
- Jolene (9/5): - Very relating and comfortable with helpful staff
- valerie (3/5): Tiring - Location, breakfast. Shower , very noisy. A group partied till 130am
- Rosie (8/5): -
- Anton (8/5): Altes Neuseeland - Gutes Essen im Restaurant Es ginge auch ein bisschen herzlicher….
- Ann (8/5): In a peaceful country environment. Very relaxing - The continental breakfast was good. The chalet was spacious and had a it's own spa. The evening food was good. The spa pool at the bottom of the track was too shallow
- TeAwhina (10/5): I was there celebrating two fam bams menders 50th bdays. My stay was amazing. I stayed in the lemon tree cortage. Such a - The reception desk staff were amazing. They were warm & welcoming. Solved the issue of a room muck up by the fault of the booking system I used not them. No efficient lighting on the path leading towards the hot pools.
- Eileen (2/5): - Pools great camp ground great No fridge in room, no room made up for second night even after asking manager to get it done. Continental breakfast was almost gone by 9.30am. Only instant coffee available in the morning. When Checking out asked for all amounts owing told nothing rung later, by manager to ask for credit card as meal was not paid. Told manager not happy with the lack of cleaning and room management.
- Robbie (8/5): - Everything
- Kim (4/5): Wouldn't stay again - there are better hot springs - The hot springs were good and we also had a private hot tub. When we arrived, the check-in person asked us where we came from and when we said Auckland he said, "The best view of Auckland is the one in your rear vision mirror." I thought this exceptionally rude. The job of people who work in hospitality is to make you feel welcome not insult you.
Our unit did not match the photo on the website. The website photo had been lightened so that it looked bright, fresh and new. I think this is dishonest.
The staff serving in the restaurant were exceptionally casually dressed - in lycra, track pants, jandals and trainers. The food was average pub food quality (i.e. not very good).
- Anna (10/5): A must - Absolutely gorgeous location, thermal pool is amazing. Cutest decor very cosy vibe. Lovely staff and breakfast. Nothing
- Erika (9/5): -
- RAQUEL (7/5): -
- Jochen (5/5): - Die Warmwasserbecken sind gut. Frühstück ohne Ei, Wurst oder Käse!
- Miranda (9/5): -
- Anonymous (8/5): Great place for a night, will come back to play a game of golf, the hot springs were quite unique. - The place had heaps of character, it was really clean for an older place, and overall had a good vibe. The hot springs were a great extra, and a substantial continental breakfast. NOthing we didn't like.
- anthony (9/5): 2 nights of peace and quite - hot springs were excellent way to unwind location very quite but only 10 minutes to town breakfast was adequate and our room was good size nothing
- Lesley (10/5): - The hot pools are superb. Unfortately though a group came in with a boom box and completely destroyed the natural atmosphere. Just unlucky. See above
- Ruby (10/5): -
- Keri-Anne (9/5): -
- Pip (10/5): -
- Mike (10/5): -
- Darryl (8/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Nice setting, charming hotel, accommodation is disappointing. - The hotel itself is a very charming 19th century hotel The accommodation is a bit shabby and rather outdated and need renovation/refurbishing.
- Scott (8/5): Great place to visit with large groups - Room was bigger than expected and having a private spa out back was good.
Great spot to stay with restaurant, pools and golf course all there. Parts of the place were a little dated
- Jeff (7/5): Nice olde worlde hotel, great location and great facilities - No fault of the hotel but the prior storm forced the closure of the hot pools which was the reason for our staying there. The hotel had no power but was resilient in having their own generator. Its a great location with the golf course, hot pools and proximity of many tourist interest spots. Just bad luck on the day. Was disappointed that the hamburger, which was billed as having beetroot, didn't. Breakfast Chef was very helpful.
- parker (10/5): - Very clean & tidy, comfortable beds, awesome housekeeping service.
Breakfast was delicious
Dinners were value for money & scrumptious
Staff were polite & helpful
Very Very cute Hotel warm & very welcoming
Definitely recommend
Will be back
- Laurence (7/5): CHambre confortable.
- Arthur and Rose (9/5): Excellent..... - First time being thete, totally enjoyed the atmospher of the place. Next time i would like to chose the room with the spa. Otherwise we had a awesum stay & experience there.
- Noel (9/5): Been there before and will definitely go back again! Love the funky conversations - We didn’t have breakfast. Couldn’t get TV 1 or TV 2 so gave up . Spa pool wasn’t without got fixed eventually.
- Uvonne (7/5): Comfortable. Chillaxing. Definitely stay again. - Stayed the night in a
chalet. Having a private spa was extra special. Bed was comfy. Hot pool amazing!! Complimentary breakfast selection was good however, if you want a hot breakfast you have to pay that separately. Dinner was yummy and thank you for the lil birthday touch for my dessert. Was really appreciated!. Receptionist was very friendly and so was the furbaby greeting!!. 🥰 Information on facility would of been of help so that we knew when the hours were for hot springs, what attraction or walks to do within the area of tirau. instead of asking all the time for anything. Microwave in chalet. Sky available for sports for live games.
- Stuart (10/5): Wonderful full of character, charm and lovely staff, especially at reception - It’s character was great and enjoyed dinner and breakfast. We were in a large outside spa room which we loved. Excellent friendly staff. Parking directly outside our room. Beautiful area. The hot springs look beautiful. So lovely to enjoy a dip so close by. Water pressure
- Nico (10/5): -
- DAVID (5/5): - The shower wasn’t good and there wasn’t no key box if you want to leave early
- Emme (9/5): I will definitely be back - my new happy place :) - I loved the vintage retro decor of the rooms and hotel. Everything worked fine. There was aircon and wifi etc. The hot springs are my new happy place and I will definitely be back. The receptionist, Karen, was so friendly and helpful, thank you. There was a continetal breakfast that had a good offering. We had a nice basic dinner out on the deck.
- Darryl (8/5): - The location is awesome and the hot pools as great
- Jenn (7/5): Cosy little spot, close enough to the town centres - Breakfast was nice, danishes were soft and fresh.
The room was like the pictures, the bathroom was a bit smaller than we thought but clean We forgot to give feedback as we didn't know the hot pools were getting cleaned on the day we arrived, however we had 24hr access which was good. However the lights on the bottom hot pools weren't working, so it was really dark. It looked like there were some there. Sometimes these things happen, just unfortunate it happened when we were there.
- Joanne (9/5): Perfect - Enjoyed the stay, loved the puna wera - hot springs. Breakfast was excellent, clean and tidy rooms, quiet location.
- Karen (9/5): Great place to stay. The natural hot springs were lovely. - Lovely base for a relaxing stay. We had a great patio area and a hot tub. The meals at the restaurant were very good - try the steak - fabulous. We needed clothes washing facilities but there are none. Not a problem though as we found a laundromat in matamata.
- Angela (8/5): Great location with excellent food - Everything Nothing
- RICHARD (8/5): overcharged booking ,com blamed -
- Boby (8/5): -
- Mereana (8/5): Waka Awa location - Location was very handy.
Beds were comfortable.
Breakfast was lovely. Service of the room could improve.
- Hendra (6/5): - Everything went well and as expected with the old hotel. Kitchen amenities are great. There is a spa pool behind our villa/chalet which is a bonus. Bed is comfortable. The living room is a bit dark maybe helps with more lights. bathroom / bathtub need a bit of an upgrade.
- Toni-Marie (9/5): To summarise, let’s just say my partner and I have decided to make Okoroire Hot Pring - The old school modern type style and easy access to all areas from any spot you’re in. Toilets, bedroom, golf range, hot springs etc. Love the old school vibe, but could do with a bit of a spruce up to more modern old school. It would definitely increase attraction and business including more customers.
- youlin (10/5): -
- Yanis (6/5): -
- Annie (6/5): -
- Shareen (9/5): Very comfortable - Access to the hot springs The shower and basin
- Brown (8/5): -
- Chloe (9/5): - Tidy and clean rooms. Wonderful restaurants. The hot spring pools should be cleaned. The floors of the pools were very slippery.
- Samuel (6/5): - Charming old-style hotel - lovely setting and veranda, and the springs. Bathroom was quite small, an hot water not totally reliable the first afternoon, but then was fine. Cleaning staff failed to make up the room on the last day.
- Ruth (7/5): -
- Rob (8/5): Charming old style hotel - The Hotel is old, full of character and charm. Staff were all very friendly N?A
- Warrick (10/5): - Great location we were upgraded lovely staff and service
- Marianne (8/5): - Beautiful location, lovely walk to the pools. The Continental Breakfast was great.
- hai (8/5): -
- Noel (8/5): Our group really enjoyed our stay. - Lovely setting, good food, great breakfast and great hot pools to soak in.
- SteveW NZ (10/5): Classic stay at hot springs hotel - It's a iconic hotel, built in the 1890's
It still has style. The bed was very comfortable and it was quiet at night
- Jennifer (8/5): - History and location. Plumbing was in need of some upgrading
- Philippa (8/5): -
- Robert (9/5): - The location and grounds are wonderful, peaceful, scenic. The hot spring pools were great. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant dinner was delicious, the ambiance was great. The pub was relaxing and a great way to meet locals and converse or play pool. I understand that being an older resort there are maintenance issues. However, the shower curtain was not long enough and water splashed onto the floor, causing the floor to be soaked which will be a long term issue unless rectified. An addition of protein to the continental breakfast would be appreciated, maybe cold cuts, cheese and hard boiled egg.
- Linda (8/5): Lovely venue, most staff working hard! - Hot springs were wonderful, dinner was very nice and wait staff was very accomodating The manager was quite abrupt. More staff needed as there weren’t enough to serve dozens of guests.
- Yair (4/5): - בריכות תרמיות לשימוש חופשי. מלון מיושן. תחזוקת החדר לא טובה (כורסא קרועה, מקלחת לא תקינה).
- Jennifer (9/5): Stopped for one night on a road trip and will be back again - Staff at front reception were excellent, taking the time to make us feel very welcome. No much
- Melanie (6/5): - After reading some terrible reviews we were apprehensive, but we shouldn't have worried it was a gorgeous old world hotel. Breakfast was awesome, pools and golf were a highlight. Loved our weekend away. Main bed was hard has a rock, single beds were super comfy
- Gordon (7/5): Great - Nice spot Nothing
- Laurie (7/5): - The hot pools were lovely, the breakfast was great.
- Susan (8/5): Perfect for golfers and non-golfers alike - Its an historic building just a short detour from the main highway. Nothing come to mind.
- Julia (4/5): - The hot springs and grounds are beautiful the pastries at breakfast were yum as. It was not value for money, booking.com was much more expensive than if we'd booked direct though. The shower was like a dribble. There were ants inside, fridge was so loud we couldnt sleep with it. Everything seems tired and in need of refurbishment. The staff were really friendly. The food was not worth the cost.. frozen supermarket fish for fish and chips..
- Jieling (7/5): Nice place but need pay more attention on details. - Hot spring, dinner, breakfast Some facilities are too old and broken.
- Jenny (8/5): A really peaceful and relaxing stay after a long flight from England - Breakfast very good value for money, location was perfect. Off the beaten track Everything met our expectations
- Shona (6/5): -
- Leanne (4/5): Loved the hot pools but the chalet felt past their use by date. - Location and hot pools Run down. Lots of maintenance needed.
- Rodgers (6/5): -
- triplej4 (7/5): - Location, restaurant bar pool tables pools Got the basics in room, spa area could be tidyed up and fixed up, looks held together by wood and nails.
- Roger (6/5): Lovely way to finish a road trip around the north island - Location great, pools good but only one able to be used, nice quiet location. Good spa bath Too quiet in the bar
Shame to have a mouse in the rubbish bin during the night
- Izzy (4/5): - Dinner was very good.
Room was warm We booked a room with a double bed and got 2 single beds pushed together, very uncomfortable and only the 1 bed had a n electric blanket on.
This hotel allows for functions and on our particular stay the party moved to one of the rooms and was unbelievably loud, with loud music. If you do this then try and have the accommodation far away from where the hotel guest stay or have at least a policy in place that no loud noise after 10PM, we tried to phone reception at 11:45pm to get hold of someone and could not.
We had to leave early the next day (7:30) and no breakfast available before 8am also no drop box to leave the key, everything to the main part of the hotel was locked.
At dinner there was some kids banging on a piano - overall this is not a place to go to on a weekend, to spend time in the hot pools and to relax.
- Janette (8/5): - Hotel is old with small rooms which we found quite enchanting, the mineral pools down by the river were great and you should arrive in time to enjoy these. Dinner was quite ordinary though and don’t order the steak. Breakfast was enjoyable though. We would stay here again but order for dinner what you would expect to come out of the freezer well. There is nowhere else nearby to get dinner. Loved the grounds and ambience of the hotel. Would return.
- Caz (9/5): An excellent place to base yourself to partake in a vast array of activities. - Everything right at your fingertips… hot pools, golf, fishing, meals. Bathrooms in need of a good update
- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Helen (8/5): Great old hotel and pub with outdoor hot pools. More than just a night's stop-over. - Nice room in old characterful building. Attached pub with good pub food and a very good breakfast (the cheese scones were wonderful). Outdoor hot pools and golf course. We should have got there earlier as we did not leave ourselves enough time to use to hot baths. Next time a full day!
- Baxter (6/5): Great location and character let down by the food and service - Unique location and setting and amazing with the natural thermal hot pools.
The spa pool in our chalet was nice also. The food was average at best and didn't reflect what they had advertised on their website, service was poor.
The hotel is not cheap and neither was the food for the money we spent I would usually expect better.
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Serena (6/5): - Beautiful old hotel . Comfy lounge area, good continental brekkie. Hot pools. Questionable flower arrangements .
- Wendy (10/5): - We loved our stay because it was so different and had so much history on the walls and our room loved it so much
I was sad it was to hard for me after my hip operation to get to the pools just to steep and to far down steps etc But everything else was 110% we loved it
THANK YOU
- William (8/5): -
- Jenni (9/5): Superb -
