Guest Reviews
- Martin & Mie (9/5): - Quiet peaceful All good
- Laura (8/5): Good location; Property is for sale so not in top condition. - Good location; Our room was huge; Enjoyed watching all of the rabbits hop around the property Property is for sale so not in top condition.
- Bridgette (10/5): -
- cindy (9/5): We had a special time - Close to warbirds. Loves the surrounds. I liked the rural setting
- Lan (9/5): -
- Yuan (10/5): -
- Lexie (3/5): Disappointing. Wouldn’t stay again. - Good location for what we were doing Wasn’t very clean. No TVs in the room nor in the common area. Wifi was patchy at best so couldn’t even stream anything via our phones.
- constance (7/5): Pleasant enough, but overpriced for the lack of amenities. - The grounds were relaxing and interesting (gardens and llamas). The pool was not being maintained, so was unavailable. Also, our room was not equipped with a television. Because the property was for sale, I got the impression that it was not being maintained as it must have been before.
- Gary (10/5): -
- Todd (7/5): -
- Colin (7/5): -
- Anne (10/5): Hôtel très confortable , bien aménagé un peu excentré. - Chambre confortable
Cadre agréable Un peu loin de la ville
- June (10/5): Just a perfect getaway for us for one night. - Loved the location, great outdoor spaces and the lodge was really nice. Loved our room, the lounge and kitchen area, felt like home.
- RAIMON (7/5): Moyen et cher - Petit déjeuner très moyen avec une offre très limitée de pains et viennoiseries comme dans beaucoup de motels et d’hôtels en NZ Proximité de la route
- Sanduni (9/5): Lovely stay! - Great location! And friendly staff -

- Amanda8842 (7/5): - quiet and clean of the room
- Rosalinda (6/5): Overpriced accommodation - Good location Tv not working, dirty windows and facilities not aligned with price and type of accommodation.
Communal kitchen with stove not to be used by guests .
- Emmanuel (10/5): -
- Shameel (8/5): -
- Don (5/5): Disappointing - Location, nice rural setting, reasonably close to Wānaka Bit tired, needs modernising. Lack of water to room in the morning was a surprise, we were told to wait, it will come back on.
Previous visits had a very different vibe.
- Jo-ann (1/5): Not recommended - Nice property landscape pretty The website promises a luxury stay, apertifs and canapés included in your stay. This did not occur. Although the hosts were polite, they did not go the extra mile, not chatty or informative. The property requires maintenance. The pool and spa area were poorly maintained, leaves everywhere dirty pool furniture shoved in the corner. The Tariff does not reflect the stay. I was happy to pay more for a special experience. This accommodation is false advertising and I wonder if this is even legal.
- Matthew (8/5): Peaceful and enjoyable place to stay just out of town - Very peaceful and comfortable place to stay, very welcoming staff
- Anonymous (3/5): A beautiful place, very pooly maintained (and that is an understatement) - See above We stayed here for three nights and it was a very mixed experience because of the way the facility is run.
The facility itself is magnificent but the maintenance is so bad that it substantially detracts from the experience.
The negatives start at check-in. Everywhere else on our trip hosts have gone out of their way to advise us of local facilities' activities etc ,here we were handed a map and a laminated sheet with some restaurants recommended but not a brochure in sight for the many attractions in the place, and no time spent welcoming us.
In the bedroom there was a laminated sheet saying that the safes do not work and that Netflix is accessible on the TV . The latter is not true( despite the efforts of both the proprietor and the proprietor's young son).
Netflix could not be accessed and the warning regarding the safes is correct but clearly this has been the way for some considerable time.
It had been a hot day so I went to the communal kitchen to find the cold drinks and ice making fridge freezer. I pressed for ice and plenty was made but nothing happened. I opened the door and a shower of ice landed on the floor. The equipment was blocked with old ice which had closed over the piping. The quantity of ice suggested it had not been cleaned in ages.
I cleaned that up and went and to join my wife who was complaining at the amount of bird poo on the garden table and chairs where we wanted to eat later. She cleaned it up herself.
It took about 10 minutes to lock the door to the garden from our bedroom. I think I succeeded on the 10th attempt. The mechanism is so loose the locking action only works sporadically.
We were glad of the slippers provided as the path to the pool was covered with rabbit droppings and garden dirt. The pool was dirty and full of leaves at one end but the hot tub was very enjoyable. The whole pool area looks neglected with no evidence of sweeping or cleaning.
- Roger (9/5): Lovely setting with great host . Breakfast was outstanding - Quite Location comfy rooms and excellent host Not a don’t like but a suggestion. A fridge in the room and a TV .
- Hilary (6/5): Disappointing, not worth the money! - Room was nice, comfortable bed. Pleasant grounds - could sit outside. At the price and from the description we were expecting a really good experience (as at other similar lodges) but it was disappointing. This could be a special place but it wasn’t. Staff were helpful enough but no one went the extra mile to make it great eg on arrival the doors were shut & it looked
closed. There’s a guest lounge with tea & coffee, TV, books etc rather than having facilities in the room, but whilst a coffee machine was supplied, there were no pods, empty biscuit jar etc. There was a kitchen, presumably for guest use but this was tired and there was no mention/explanation about using it.
Overall, we could have stayed somewhere better in the town centre for less.
- Robin (9/5): Superb - After driving for a few hours on twisty turny roads we arrived to find a beautiful lodge in the countryside with a small swimming pool and hot tub. Felt like Nirvana.
- Greg (1/5): avoid the property - staff don't know what they are doing - The staff tried to tell us that Booking.com had mixed up our booking - in fact I booked several weeks ahead of time and they sent me a confirmation and a follow up email acknowledging a request and acceptance. We arrived were acknowledged as having booked and shown to our room - the staff then confronted us with rubbish that the system had confused a booking - it wasn't an error on our or Booking.com part
- Rosemary (9/5): Peaceful luxury just outside of Wanaka - The Black Rock suite was a very spacious room with lots of facilities and two patio areas in different directions. Beautiful view. Comfortable inside the room - beds, sofa, dining table. Very attentive and responsive staff. Quiet location outside of town - but only a 10 min drive to restaurants etc. Lovely to have the swimming pool on a hot day. Breakfast option and shared lounge if you want it. We had everything that we needed and more. Some minor repair work is needed to make this fully 5 star.
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful lodge in a beautiful location with incredibly hospitable hosts. We highly recommend it. - The location is perfect. We were glad we stayed just outside of Wanaka. It allows for a quiet night in a beautiful location yet it’s easy to get into town and to a nearby lavender farm.
We had dinner at the lodge one night and it was excellent. Far surpassed our expectations. We enjoyed breakfast as well
Everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
- Mary (8/5): Very good -
- Ahmed (8/5): Nice lodge, area, and staff but expensive. - The room was clean. The area and the lodge are beautiful. The staff are very nice and helpful. It is expensive based on the fact that It is quite far from Wanaka town centre and the size of the room that was a bit small. It is difficult to find with Maps.
- Tom (6/5): Nice rooms - Very clean room with lots of space. John very froendly and helped with taxi No laundry facilities despite website saying there was. No breakfast offered
- Zoe (9/5): Great spot just outside Wanaka - Fabulous room and great common area, with huge trampoline that the kids loved :). Plus lots of wildlife - bunnies, lamas, horses :)
Very welcoming staff
- Abhijit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Esther (8/5): Very good -
- Valérie (9/5): Nice room - Very nice property. Big room and bathroom, very clean It was not possible to get breakfast
- Zoe (9/5): Superb - Wonderful staff! Spacious accommodations. Lovely property.
- Carole (9/5): Superb -
- Xue (2/5): Very poor -
- Martha (8/5): Very good -
- Kok (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ollie (9/5): Superb - Lovely peaceful setting. Great staff.
- Rod (8/5): Very good - The whole venue was excellent, the grounds were lovely and peaceful, and the proximity to Wanaka Airfield was outstanding. $317 was way too much.
- Heather (5/5): A place to sleep not socialise. - The location on our way to Dunedin to see our granddaughter at Otago University. Communal kitchen and lounge. We were very tired after a very long day of travel. Socialising was not on our agenda. Strong unpleasant smell in the bathroom on our arrival. No underlay on bed. No armchair in our room.
- Berit (7/5): Nice lodge just outside of Wanaka with a nice garden spa and pool. - Nice stately small lodge just outside of Wanaka with a spa and pool set in a nice garden. Full cooked breakfast was really nice and gave us a chance to chat with other guests. The king size bed was not very comfortable; had a strange center lump like two mattresses pushed together.
On arrival. the reception area was not very welcoming but the proprietor was very friendly.
- Mccauley (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely property!
- Shaun (8/5): Very good - Great location and very welcoming staff. Pool was nice bonus. Single beds were narrow. This is because it was a king sized bed split in two. This was not clear in the description. I was expecting two queen sized beds as is normal in twin rooms in this price bracket.
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Dilidili (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location can see lots of wild bunny, horse and alpaca on site, beautiful starry sky at night.
We stayed there at New Year Eve and the staff was lovely and prepared snacks for all guests. The reception was left unattended when we arrived and no one pick up the calls. Had to wait at the living room for almost 15 mins. However everything else was good experience, the staff offered us additional folding bed in the room.
- Sharron (5/5): Expensive for what it is. - Spa and swimming pool Paper thin walls, little privacy if fully booked. It felt like a backpackers kitchen, not a high end lodge, therefore not good value for money.
- Dion (9/5): Superb -
- Guy (7/5): Hot tub and pool great, rest a bit odd! - The pool and hot tub to use was great. The bedding was good and the aircon powerful. There was also snacks and drinks available - not sure if this was because it was Christmas day. We were a little disappointed that this was 5 star as it didn't seem of that quality. The room was pretty small, furniture was badly marked/chipped and the bathroom was outdated. It was also not super clean. There was brown marks in the toilet at the U bend, hairs in the drawers etc.
The oddest part was that it felt like you were staying in someone elses house. There was a lounge and a kitchen that people were hanging out in/cooking in which was just a bit strange.
We also paid for breakfast and it was not worth the $30 each. The only cooked options were bacon, egg, tomato and mushroom. We wish instead we had driven the 10 mins to Wanaka and got something there.
- Colin (9/5): Superb - A lovely large suite with views over the garden. It was quiet and helpful staff who did a load of washing for us and promptly brought it back the following morning. Very comfortable bed. A few miles out of Wanaka which meant driving. Tired but clean bathroom.
- Gilles (10/5): The place to be at Wanaka -
- Paul (5/5): Underwhelming - It was quiet and I’m a nice property. Felt like we were staying in someone’s house and It was overpriced. However understand there is not much available in the area. We were looking forward to using the spa after a long day hiking however it had leaves and someone’s hair.
- Vinod (4/5): Disappointing - Location Mattress were poor quality, got back ache
- Robyn (7/5): this place has heaps of potential just didn't live up to our expectations . - liked the location nice and peaceful. And was very clean. The spa pool was lovely and clean. Kitchen had good facilities. Great welcome and hospitality No TV in the living Room. Light bulbs need to be replaced. Some of the fruit provided was not very fresh. Couch not very comfy. And the place looking very run down so felt not good value for money.
- Louise (8/5): Wonderful retreat - The setting was amazing. We loved the garden and the animals. The accommodation was warm and cozy. The staff were exceptional, thoughtful, organized and friendly. Chris was the perfect host and manager. Nothing!!
- Robert (10/5): Clean and comfortable stay! - Fantastic property with spa, llamas, and very clean. Bed was two twins put together, however didn’t really impact us once we put the beds closer.
- Bryan (4/5): Disappointing and left frustrated.... - The place is lovely, the room confortable and well equipped. The staff was welcoming (we only saw one lady at the reception when we arrived and her mom, very nice lady, the next day morning for breakfast). Where do I start:
- The Outdoor swimming pool wasn't accessible.
- The all Spa pool area seemed neglected (dead leaves everywhere, bird poo on the the outdoor cushion chairs, the all area looked messy).
- Even if we are far from the road you can hear the cars passing by on the road, there is no sound insulation. Good thing that it was just me and my partner and an other couple staying for the night.
- Breakfast was probably the most disappointing part and unfortunately the last thing we experienced before leaving which made us really frustrated when we left: The Mom was doing breakfast because her daughter (usually in charge of it) couldn't do it for some reasons (it can happen, not judging that part). There was some miscommunication between them as the mom didn't know we were having breakfast. She was lovely, we had a good talk but the breakfast was extremely disappointing: 5 little pieces of mushrooms, with 2 slices of bacon and one fried egg for my partner because there wasn't enough left to make 2... Cold when served... with one toast of bread each and 3 tiny croissants for 2 person (not fresh, they were frozen and baked in the morning). The Orange juice wasn't fresh either, it was clearly some bottle juice. Honestly those little thing could be ok if the price was adapted, we paid $60 for that.... I'm sorry but this is scandalous!
We paid full price for our 1 night stay and breakfast when we couldn't experience it fully and properly. Working in hospitality as well I can understand that there can be some unexpected things coming up (they also said they just re opened) but if you are unable to insure your services properly a goodwill gesture would be appreciated or you just don't offer it....
- James (10/5): Beautiful suite near Wanaka, amazing host. - A beautiful stay in the rural outskirts of Wanaka, only a couple of minutes from the centre. Jess went above and beyond to make the stay perfect for our engagement celebrations, she even managed to get us a last minute table at a nearby restaurant. We were sad to leave and hope to revisit when we’re next in NZ. The breakfast is also incredible. Feeding the alpacas in the morning was an added bonus (optional). Thanks again.
- Kelvin (9/5): Amazing. Would return - Very cozy and well maintained. Beautiful scenery.
- Philip (8/5): Very good -
- Wynyard (5/5): Disappointing. - Room as shown on web site. Promised birthday dinner did not eventuate. Payment taken before we had a chance to draw breath. Zero communication about the room and the property. Depressing public spaces.
- Lynne (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely decor and comfortable bed. Great to have a spa and pool available. Fabulous breakfast, good parking and lovely grounds.
- Dewan (8/5): Very good -
- Lorraine (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous, lovely selection of fresh fruit yoghurt and scour dough & brown bread rolls & croissants.
Delicious bacon eggs & mushrooms.
Choice of orange or apple juice.
- Serban (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marion (7/5): Good -
- Craig (10/5): Fabulous B & B near Wanaka - Enjoyed the lovely Black Peak Suite at this small B &B about 10 minutes ride from Wanaka. Jess and her Mother, Jackie, made our 3 night stay very memorable. Our cooked to order breakfasts were excellent, and Jess was able to help us with dinner reservations and othe sightseeing recommendations. The acreage driving into the property and unusual animals on sight were fun to see in their enclosed area every time we drove in and out of the property. We thought the price was very fair and we would absolutely do it again! Staying longer!
- Rutherford (8/5): Very good -
- Sam (7/5): Good -
- Karin (9/5): Comfortable accommodations in a peaceful rural setting, and friendly, helpful staff. - The peaceful location, charming staff, and good home-cooked breakfast.
- Les (10/5): Fun, fabulous and beautiful! A great friendly get away with games, quiet areas, fireplace , books, - Fabulous and friendly! They after vegan, veg and anything else!
- Deanne (6/5): Not our favourite - The room was pleasant and our studio terrace was nice. Wifi access was very patchy. Quite a way out from Wanaka.
- Carolyn (6/5): Pleasant - Lovely quiet setting outside of town. Facilities were a bit tired. Wifi did not work. Staff was friendly, but seemed a bit disorganized. We were given a smaller room than what we paid for.
- Lesley (10/5): Very relaxed and homely atmosphere. - Beautiful, quiet area around the lodge. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Short drive into Wanaka in the evening.
- Robert (10/5): We were so glad we chose Lime Tree lodge and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - Beautiful property with charming hosts. Excellent breakfast.
Jess was happy to give us any help and information needed and I was able to use her laundry facilities.
Lovely grounds, swimming pool and hot tub. Nothing
- Judy (10/5): Fantastic and very enjoyable - a wonderful place to stay when your travelling just like being at home. Jess and Jacqui are the most welcoming hosts we have ever had the pleasure to stay with
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Thank you very much for organising a gluten free breakfast. It was a gorgeous place to stay.
- Vu (9/5): very pleasant and got to meet other guests staying at the same time - The welcoming staff and the room
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gordon (8/5): Very good - Loved how private our room was. Huge bed meant a great nights sleep. It was a fantastic place to stay at the end of our road trip holiday. The bottle of local wine was a lovely touch.
- Jenny (7/5): Good - The location is very peaceful about 10 minutes drive from Wanaka, so you need transport
The pool was lovely.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (8/5): wish we were staying longer! - lovely feeling of being at home
beautiful rooms and facilities
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (8/5): Enjoyed our stay, but the website misrepresents the present position and raises expectations which aren’t delivered - peaceful, relaxing, pool and spa were lovely. Jessie was charming and helpful, made it worthwhile website made it sound special,‘chocolates, sparkling water , canapés’ didn’t see any of these , fresh fruit only in the last afternoon. No tv or kettle in the room, so if you want a cup of tea in bed in the morning you have to go to the kitchen area where others are having breakfast.3 night stay but no room service,( but they don’t tell you this bit) ‘Lush garden, 50 rose bushes’ only two tiny rose buds, no other flowers, ok dry January but roses, agapanthus, hydrangea etc all flowering in town. Had to ask for a second bedside light,
really not five star. Are the glowing reviews all from people who stay in the suites?
- Peggy (8/5): Nice location and nice stay. Price to high for the facilities you get - Nice location. Jacky was very friendly. We could use the washingmachine which was very kind. Room was spacious with a nice terrace. Fresh fruit and a bottle of wine in the room. We liked the alapacas and Hank the pig. Good airconditioning. Nice showerproducts in the bathroom Breakfast was disappointing. For instance no eggs. Only yoghurt, fruit, toast with mushroom and tomato for 50 dollars for 2 persons.
Price of the room is in our opinion to high as well.
Bed was to soft and pillows uncomfortable.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
