Guest Reviews
- Anne (9/5): A very relaxing time in beautiful surroundings. - Delicious breakfasts. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- James (10/5): - Everything is great. Room is a bit small.
- 161heathero (10/5): Absolutely wonderful stay - From the moment we arrived to checking out three nights later, our stay was exceptional. The staff went beyond our expectations. Always helpful and informative. Beautiful gardens and surroundings. Breakfast outstanding Undoubtedly the best club property we have experienced and we have stayed in many over the years.
- miss4pink (10/5): OMG! It's amazing ❤️ - What an amazing place to stay. The building and grounds are absolutely stunning. The rooms are huge and full of charm, they even serve afternoon tea! The location is just out of Margaret River town, but we walked into town and back and it was a nice walk - though no lights at night on the path once you get about halfway. They also have recommendations for local taxi's, so ask the front desk.
We would definitely stay again!
- amelk272 (10/5): Great couples getaway - central to wineries of Margaret river and hikes. - Excellent couples experience in this historic Basildene Manor, of course with beautiful grounds and modern luxuries.
The staff are professional, approachable and friendly, with refreshing eagerness to assist. The rooms are very comfortable and the quiet location ensures a great sleep experience.
Thank you for making our stay so comfortable.
- 812juliet (10/5): An amazing experience in luxury! - We had 2 amazing weeks at Basildene Manor. If I could give it a rating of 6 plus I would!
The rooms are large, luxurious and well presented. The surrounding grounds are beautiful and well cared for.
There was also a guest laundry that you don’t have to pay for.
There was coffee and tea available all day in the conservatory and afternoon tea after 3.00.
The staff were exceptional - friendly, helpful and accommodating with Ally even delivering afternoon tea to us! Nothing was too hard for them.
When we left we were presented with scones and jam.
- elvirao909 (10/5): Basildene Manor - Beautiful grounds, well maintained. A quaint manor and staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are well serviced as well as dining and hallway spaces. Plenty of breakfast choices and the wait staff are lovely. Quite location but still close to the main town centre. Thoughly recommend.
- 113carmeln (10/5): A must stay - Absolutely wonderful place to stay! The property is pristine and the gardens are stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you.
We will definitely be back!
- Kate (10/5): - Staff were so kind and friendly and thoughtful- always happy to help and assist! The breakfast was 10/10! Rooms were incredibly clean and spacious! The place was beautiful- many thanks to all the team!!
- Dee (10/5): A gorgeous property with comfortable spacious rooms - Close to town and restaurants but secluded enough to have peace and quiet. Small amount of rooms so not many people at breakfast. Loved our stay. Nothing to dislike. Highly recommend
- 989tarynw (10/5): Absolutely beautiful place to stay - We had the most amazing two night getaway to celebrate my birthday. Particular highlights were the delicious breakfast, reading a book on the balcony overlooking the big oak tree, and the extremely comfortable bed. Very highly recommended for a special getaway!
- Loreto (10/5): - Muy lindo el hotel, al principio nos dieron una pieza demasiado chica, la cambiaron Nada
- karen (8/5): Great location good breakfast - Location to town. Magnificent grounds. Excellent breakfast Staff all very helpful and friendly Room was very small as was bathroom for the price. Also hot water took 3-4 minutes to get hot
- johndC622ZF (10/5): Great week at the Manor - We had 7 nights at Basildene Manor and enjoyed the whole experience. Our room looked out on the beautiful gardens, which are so well maintained.
Staff are so helpful. Cake and a cup of tea in the afternoons hit the spot.
- katwelch602 (10/5): A Seamless and Memorable Stay in Beautiful Surroundings - We had a wonderful two-night stay at Mercure Basildene in Margaret River. Everything felt seamless from the moment we checked in, including the thoughtful dining recommendations. The property itself is beautiful, with a charming building and stunning gardens that make it feel really special.
Breakfast was a true highlight — absolutely exceptional each morning. A special thank you to Sally, who was always so welcoming and incredibly helpful, along with Dean and Helena, who were all fantastic. The entire team went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
We would happily return.
- annafranceschini (10/5): Home away from home - We absolutely love it here, the Staff are so welcoming and accommodating. They go the extra mile, from serving afternoon tea and cakes daily to waking up on Easter Sunday with Easter eggs thoughtfully placed outside our rooms and down the staircase. 😁It’s always a highlight! 😍 The gardens are Stunning as is the Manor house. Everything is spotless! We enjoy experience so much that we return every year!
- X3484TOjanetb (10/5): Wonderful - Excellent place to stay, staff were really nice, the hotel’s grounds were beautiful, breakfast was lovely aswell as the afternoon cakes and coffee. Would definitely stay here again, thank you

- terrypK3092YF (10/5): An experience to remember - We have been visiting Margaret River for nearly 40 years and have stayed in all manner of properties, from chalets to farmsteads to modern homes on acreage but the Grand Mercure Basildene Manor is on an entirely different level.
From the moment we checked in, we felt immediately at home, with the warmest of welcomes from the reception staff.
Of course, the room was sensational, having booked a King Suite with the balcony overlooking the grounds. This was for a belated Birthday treat. The quality of fittings, bed, ensuite and everything else is top-notch.
For the four nights we had booked, we enjoyed magnificent breakfasts, freshly cooked to order and served in the bright and airy conservatory, which overlooks the superb manicured gardens. Unbeatable.
The housekeeping staff, servers - every one really, are a credit to this establishment and they provide that feeling of belonging to the guests that no Corporate hotel could ever bring.
There is also a well maintained swimming pool complete with lounges to have a dip and catch some rays. The water was a little chilly but hey, its nice and refreshing on a hot day!
I could go on and on but really, this is a property that needs to be experienced as soon as you can because it is sensational.
- teresahJ3575OT (10/5): Magic & tranquil - Thoroughly enjoyed the night's out to different eateries & not have to cook + tranquillity of the lovely gardens..the staff were all so kind with anything we were interested to do ..will definitely go again x

The rest of the staff were also fantastic, super attentive, extremely pleasant and did everything with a smile. Our room was immaculate and provided for a comfortable stay. The breakfast room was quiet each morning of our stay and we enjoyed our home cooked breakfast whilst looking at the manicured grounds. We had a hire car so the distance to town was not an issue. Highly recommend.
- I9541BHcaroln (10/5): Memories - This was the most fabulous of accommodation, gracious, thoughtful and welcoming. The hotel is set in a beautiful garden and is a very special place.
- batamin2026 (10/5): A little piece of heaven unforgettable stay - Our stay at Basildene Manor was nothing short of magical. This small boutique hotel is a true hidden gem and feels like a little piece of heaven.
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel completely at home. The staff are exceptional, warm, genuinely friendly, and incredibly thoughtful. They truly care about their guests and go above and beyond, offering insightful local recommendations and personalised service that you rarely find these days.
The manor itself is stunning peaceful, elegant, and beautifully maintained. The rooms are perfect: spacious, comfortable, and filled with lovely details that make the stay feel special and personal.
What really set this stay apart was the farewell. At the end of our visit, we were surprised with a goodbye gift. Such a thoughtful and touching gesture that we were genuinely emotional. It perfectly reflects the heart and care behind everything they do.
A very special thanks to Ailsa, who made our stay extra special. Her warmth, attention to detail, and genuine kindness made a lasting impression.
I’ve never stayed anywhere like this before. We truly didn’t want to leave, and we cannot wait to return. If you’re looking for an intimate, beautiful, and unforgettable stay in Margaret River, Basildene Manor is exceptional.

This early Western Australian Mansion oozes Historical Character and Charm, Set amongst lush English Style Gardens and magnificent trees. The Location is fabulous. I often visit this resort just for its proximity to world class Surf and there are plenty of reef breaks to choose from close by.
Margaret River area itself is renowned for its vineyards, exceptional foods, restaurants and wines. As well as the quaint querky friendly atmosphere, the weather, and cosmopolitan culture.
Love it, Love it, Love it.
I must also mention the facilities at the resort are excellent, friendliness and accommodating helpfulness of the staff and management are wonderful.
Thank you for another pleasant stay.

All the staff are friendly and welcoming, especially Ally, who never steered us wrong with her entertainment & dining suggestions. The breakfast is delicious, hats off to the chef. We highly recommend the smoked salmon omelet & pancakes, light & fluffy. A homemade cake is prepared every day for afternoon tea for guests to enjoy & we did! On our last day, we were gifted scones, butter & jam for our journey. How nice is that! The hotel is in a great location close to the shopping strip & restaurants as well as Voyager Estate & Leeuwin Estate Wineries. We had a fabulous visit to the Margaret River and look forward to a return stay at the wonderful Basildene Manor.
Thank you again to the wonderful staff, Sally
- John (10/5): - Beautiful grounds... Full moon...
- jenniferrD641ZW (10/5): Exceeded our expectations - We were so delighted by Basildene manor. I originally found it here on Trip Advisor. But it’s even more delightful in person, so quant and charming. Will recommend to anyone we know headed to Margaret River. It’s a B&B with lush grounds, a pool and so many birds. If you are lucky you will also see the kangaroos. The only thing I will mention is that it’s a long walk to town. But we didn’t mind driving.
- TheBanksiaCrew (10/5): Loved it! - Beautiful location and room. Staff were lovely. Worth the expense for a special occasion. Exploring the history of the place was fun. Gardens beautifully maintained.
- jodieq2018 (10/5): Beautiful hotel with great facilities - Basildene Manor is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous, recently renovated and spacious. They all have balconies or outdoor spaces. There’s a lovely pool and BBQ facilities for guests. It’s a 3 min drive or 20minute walk to the Main Street.

Room was great, clean and serviced daily.
Breakfast was lovely in a nice room overlooking the gardens.

Not far out of Margaret River town.
A bit pricey, no restaurant or bar.
- J6074KYandrews (10/5): Wonderful stay as always. - As always, great room, great gardens and very friendly staff. Bit of a walk to town, but it’s good for working up an appetite into town and burning the calories off coming home.
- Giancarlo (10/5): -
- Ursula (9/5): -
- Joan (10/5): Loved it! - Gorgeous historic building, very comfortable room with everything you could want. Staff couldn't be more helpful and the breakfasts were fantastic. Would be great to have a restaurant on site, but its a flat walk into town for a selection of wonderful options.

- gracez589 (10/5): Highly recommended - We just had a 3 night weekend getaway to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. We were even given a little acknowledgment for our anniversary, which was a lovely gesture. The king suite with bath was lovely. Nice and roomy and clean. Serviced everyday. The daily breakfast was plentiful and excellent and the staff were always happy and friendly. We loved the beautiful and peaceful garden surrounds. Overall we had an excellent experience and would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a deluxe stay down south.

- chrisrV4553OE (10/5): So good - Amazing stay, Beautiful host - nothing was too hard, went that extra mile to make our visit better. Superb surroundings for a relaxing break & convenient position for Margaret River township & all the surrounding wineries, beach etc.
- Worrell (10/5): Staff were excellent, breakfast supplied was cooked to perfection. We loved the Manor and for sure will be going back! - The grounds were beautifully kept! The rooms were clean and well equiped. The tv in our room was massive compared to the room itself which created a mini cinema feel when it was raining.
- H6298TYsarahw (10/5): Absolutely perfect! - The most amazing experience. It was the most beautiful accomodation with some special little touches to make us feel very special on our anniversary weekend. Highly recommend!

- Camper293676 (10/5): Where do I Start....... - From the moment you walk in the door you can feel the warmth and relaxed atmosphere about this 1912 homestead. There is so much history about this place, and the most lovely staff make you feel right at home. We spent two nights here for our 25th Wedding anniversary and absolutely loved every bit of it. Great food, the room was spotless, with such a beautiful gardens to walk around. Spoil yourself!
- tonyvR2402QN (10/5): An oasis of luxury - My wife and I stayed for two nights in this sophisticated and elegant period hotel during a two week tour of south west Australia and this was by far our favourite hotel.
Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great attention to detail with complimentary cake upon arrival and departure and free laundry services. Immaculately tendered and beautifully designed gardens. Just a wonderful place to relax and enjoy.
I have one piece of constructive criticism in that the kitchen is obviously understaffed at breakfast time. We waited for over half an hour for our cooked breakfast and when it didn’t arrive we had to cancel it because we had an appointment to make. Other than that it was a delight to stay and I would love to return one day!
- dlrobins (10/5): Great atmosphere. Amazing location. - We have been to Margaret River previously but this time decided to treat ourselves. What a great location and the building is just gorgeous. The history of the place was inspiring. The staff were exceptionally helpful and very friendly throughout our two night stay. The room was spacious with a super comfortable bed. The bathroom had plenty of room and a very generous shower. The gardens are amazing and lovely just to walk around. It is probably a little far from the township to walk to dinner but was a short drive. Breakfast is included in the cost and the food was fabulous although for the number of people sitting for breakfast the service was a little slow. However this didn’t detract from our enjoyment of the place. Would highly recommend staying here and if we are back here in the future would stay again.
- sheree (8/5): Beautiful heritage home! - Stunning property, we felt very lucky to have stayed here for 1 night. Breakfast was great the following day, with a continental or hot breaky from the menu. The grounds were amazingly kept also. It was a little noisy in the hallways due to other guests, we were also staying very close to main reception so perhaps why it was noisy.
- Louise (8/5): -
- CliveMJW (10/5): Simply Wonderful - Simply the best! Delightful accomodation among stunning gardens Friendly caring staff that go above and beyond for a memorable stay. Breakfasts were simply delicious and cooked to order. If you’re heading to Margaret River this is the place to stay.
- CHRISTINA (10/5): Amazing gardens, staff and breakfast. Truly relaxing experience. Highly recommend - Breakfast, staff and gardens. Access to laundry and location to Margaret River town
- Clive (10/5): - An exceptional hotel. A lovely old house refitted to a very high standard and set in magnificent gardens.
- WENDY (10/5): Amazing - One of the most beautiful places I have stayed. Amazing grounds and accommodation. Room very small.
- ivyallysonfox (10/5): Luxurious and nourishing - Such a beautiful and peaceful stay. The location is brilliant, very close to Margaret River town, and near beaches and wineries. We stayed in the Champagne room which is world class luxury, and the staff are fantastic. They gave us scones for the drive home, and we left feeling nourished and relaxed.
- LondonJensen (8/5): Great stay despite disappointing room - We stayed at the Basildene Manor for 2 nights. Great location, stunning house and garden and all staff really friendly. Breakfast fabulous although it would have been nice to see a healthy option, such as smashed avocado, on the menu. Delicious farewell scones which was a really lovely touch.
The reason why I am only giving 4 stars is that we did not get the room we expected. We had booked a king suite with bath through Booking.com. The king room on the website clearly showed 2 pictures of a balcony and garden views so we assumed that was what we were getting. Instead, the view from the room (Riesling) was a wall - see picture. I mentioned this immediately after check-in and was told that we had to request a garden view. A bit difficult when one assumes the room is what the picture shows. We were equally told that Management was not reachable on a Sunday however, they would be in touch the next day (Monday). We never heard from them. Also, I had asked for a quiet room and we were woken up early by the rubbish truck. Despite this hiccup, the room was comfortable with a good-sized bathroom, very comfortable bed and great amenities.
We would return for another stay but never to the wall view room called Riesling.

- SoneaV (10/5): An unforgettable getaway at Basildene Manor - My husband and I had an amazing stay at the Grand Mercure Basildene Manor for two nights. From the moment we arrived until check-out, everything was absolutely perfect. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our stay special.
The location is beautiful, with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Our room was immaculate and tastefully decorated. Each morning, we enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast in the dining area overlooking the stunning gardens — such a wonderful way to start the day.
A special touch was the thoughtful gift of freshly baked scones and jam on our departure — a perfect end to a perfect stay. We can’t wait to return in 2026
Thank you Basildene Manor!
- Trail60453236181 (10/5): Stunning! - My stay at the property was amazing from the minute I arrived until I left, Justine and Allie greeted me when I arrived and were an absolute delight! Allie checked in to see how breakfast was and a chat. All the staff I came across were great. The room was great, nice and clean with plenty of space! The location and grounds were amazing, only a couple of minutes out of Margaret River. Breakfast was a lovely inclusion and there was a lot to choose from, there is afternoon tea supplied for guests which is a great bonus! I also appreciated the scones that were provided to me as I checked out! The only negative thing, if I had to pinpoint one would be that you can here other guests in the room above you. I was also located near the door so when I was on my room it was a little extra noisy but it wasn't a massive issue. I would highly recommend this property to others and given the opportunity I would definitely come back!
