Guest Reviews
- John (4/5): - Booked into Carlton where I needed to stay
Moved at late notice to north Melbourne
Not what I wanted - no staff at this location. Room had terrible smell, air conditioning noisy had to turn off, fridge not working
Shower not clean lots of mould
- Zane (2/5): - There where nice under the fridge, disgusting and the dishwasher didn't work, it smelt like it had sat there with water in it for months. Disgusting and not even close to a premium room.
- Tia (2/5): - Apartment was dirty upon checkin, hair on bathroom walls and kitchen utensils not washed. Smelled horrible too. For a week stay not enough toilet roll provided, the fan extractor for cooking didn’t work and no fan in bathroom so steam and smells from cooking and showering lingered. One window didn’t stay open too as was broken.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfectly fine and functional.
- Jillian (2/5): - Misdescribed as serviced apartment. Better described as a smelly rundown student apartment.
- Ray (2/5): - Well, we booked for 3, but turned up, and there was only 2 beds. Couldnt get hold of the manager, so had to book a hotel across the road for a third. Tried to get a refund for the 3rd person, but nope, not "approved". Apartment had a moldy smell to it when we arrive, we later found out it was the broken dishwasher with dirty stale water in the bottom of it. Then, on Saturday night, another guest cooked up some really stinky shellfish, and the stench hung around to morning. Not a great experience, topped off by getting charged for 3 people, when we could only sleep 2. Oh, and when looking to see if the sofa was a bed, discovered all number of items under the cushion.
- Léa (8/5): - Staff is pretty nice and arranging
- Tania (2/5): - Couldn’t check until 4pm without being notified. Staff were rude and unhelpful. Air conditioning didn’t work properly and was noisy. Will never stay here again.
- Matthew (2/5): - The place stunk. The hallways and my room all smelt terrible.
Apart from a friendly girl at check in the whole experience was bad.
Very noisy room.
Do not disturb sign on my door but I was continually disturbed.
Even after checking out at 10:00 I was called to ask why I was still in the room at 12:00.
Staff need more training about Do not Disturb sign and the place needs a deep clean and to be repainted to hide some of the smell.
- Jy (6/5): - Close to city, served its purpose for a night stay in city.
- nathan (2/5): - No one there for check in room was dirty
- Alison (4/5): - They require a $300 deposit on your credit card to stay. This charge has not been canceled and now I have to chase it up with them to get it back. Very annoying! Room was noisy, tv had no free to air and Netflix was in Spanish.
- Hailey (4/5): - Location was great, however the room (superior apartment) was incredibly noisy, not just from street noise. The air conditioning unit was quite old and made a lot of noise, the room was far too hot without it on and it struggled to cool it. There was no sink in the kitchen and it was difficult to fill water bottles and the kettle in the bathroom. We would not stay again.
- Michal (6/5): - Overall dirtiness, not working tv and limited lighting.
- Emily (2/5): - Terrible stay. Reception not open during the day. after waiting almost an hour for them to return from lunch break, we got told we could leave our bags...but reception still not open for another 40mins. This was all around 1pm. This closure was not advertised and meant we missed a lot of our australian open tennis session. Then reception closes at 5pm so had to leave tennis early to return to get bags. None of this was communicated in advance, a terrible experience. No apology provided nor anything remotely akin to customer service. Room condition very poor with hair in shower drain. Would not return. Terrible experience.
- Heather (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Only issue being the tv didn't work and there was no remote for the tv.
- Tobias (2/5): - We tried to stay here for a weekend in one of the serviced apartments, the room we booked "didn't exist anymore" and he room we ended up in was 1/4 of the size, was filthy and had tape holding the shower head together. Staff were not helpful at all, other reviews suggest this is a regular occurance. We left and stayed somewhere else at a huge expense just to get out. Avoid at all costs.
- Man Ying (6/5): - We arrived at 1am with no one at reception. Called and was told that my booking was not in the system and to find alternative stay for the night. Yes we were reimbursed for the expense but it was 1am and our first trip to Melbourne. Will be good idea to contact them to ensure your booking is in the system. The room would use a paint job, bed side lamps used UBS but they didn't provide adaptor so can't use. Go in without expectations and you won't be disappointed.
- Barry (2/5): - Room was small. Parking wasn't free. Front desk had no idea what was happening. The cot had no mattress. The television had no aerial cable. Nice walk to the city where there's a lot of nicer hotels.
- Aaron (2/5): - Arrived 5 min before check in only to be told our booking had been cancelled. No email or phone call to inform us before hand. Basically told to ring who we booked with and get them to sort it out. On checking reviews seems to happen regularly. This property over books to make sure all rooms are filled and then on the day cancels bookings.
- Leonnie (2/5): - They cancelled my accommodation without even 24 hours notice.
They have avoided any responsibility of alternative accommodation or refunding my payment that I made 3 months prior to the date.
I still do not have a refund and had to find and pay for my own alternative accommodation
Absolutely Terrible
- Larry (8/5): - Good location, reasonably comfortale and clean, very friendly front-desk manager.
- Bernie (6/5): - Booked parking but was told it wasn’t available when I got there, because another car had failed to leave so there were no spots! Dishes hadn’t been cleaned from previous booking, and rooms are small and stuffy with no air conditioning, just a big fan, which doesn’t really cool the place down. It’s virtually a step up from a backpackers! Pretty ordinary.
- Naomi (4/5): - Plum was very clean and in a great location. However TV was tiny and didn't work (manager couldn't sort it x 2 - did offer to change my room but was unpacked by then); fridge worked intermittently and had to pull out from under the bench to get it started) and the bed was two singles linked together with a flimsy sheet over the top (didn't cushion the ridges at all).
- Catherine (8/5): - Good room, comfortable bed, within easy access to dining options.
- Xenia (8/5): - This property was fine for what we needed. It was completely affordable and well located. It was exactly what I expected for the price.
- Nicole (4/5): - Our room looked nothing at all like the pictures advertised. I haven’t been out much Over the past few years but it’s amazing how little $115 a night will get you nowadays, the bed was uncomfortable, the view outside was of an ugly trashed courtyard and a filthy vacant lot. And they are still holding my bond money a week later!!!!
- Reece (8/5): - It’s was good
- Matthew (6/5): - Honestly, not the greatest place to stay but not the worst. It is a serviced apartment after all, but would only recommend if you were out all the time and only needed a place to sleep. Facilities inside room were sub-par, and definitely not what is actually advertised on the pictures (is anything these days really though?). Pretty low point is that the air-con is attached to the wall on the other side of the room, and would basically sweat all night as the air would not travel across the room. I’m only thankful that I was able to have a place to stay and sleep whilst I had to isolate away from my housemate (who caught COVID), but I probably would have had a much easier and restful time sleeping on the street.
- Julia (10/5): - I rung them the day before to organise things and got great customer service which continued on check in.
The room was a good size, with all I needed for the 1 night. Good price. I will happily stay there again next time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was close to everything and easy to navigate places from where we were.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Place was a bit dirty with one light not working.
No parking available when I got to the property with no prior information given that parking needed to be pre-booked at it was limited.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The corridors smelt of strong food smells and cigarettes
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Cigarette smell, noisy heater, poor room service,
- Batchy (8/5): - On arrival the staff were very helpful.
Unfortunately the 1brm apartment i was given lacked any visual appeal and had a strange aroma in it. After these initial impressions it was noticed the tv was prehistoric and did not even have a hdmi port ans was fes digital tv through a box. In addition the heater in the room also did not work.
Thankfully there was another room available when the heater issue was raised with reception and I was abke to be moved.
This room was much more moder and enjoyabke to be in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to downtown. Well stocked kitchen, including laundry detergent. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Have Low Expectations - I checked into these apartments and checked out an hour later. The room i was given stank of damp and old food, there was a single air con in the lounge and it wasnt working properly. The rooms were old, looked dirty and unkept. This is more like backpackers accomodation that an apartment or hotel. Their only saving grace is the excellent staff. For the prices you pay to stay here you can stay in 4 star hotels which are hugely more comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Air con in first room very noisy. Changed room and dishwasher in that room not working
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good location. Smoke was so bad so had to stay inside most of our stay.
- Alexander (8/5): Good Apartment. - Good apartment. Everything that we needed. Good location, good local facilities.
- P.S. (6/5): - Location and price are the highlights. Was a bit of a battle to get the 1-bedroom apartment we paid for. Initially were given an open-plan apartment. When we got the 1-bedroom the corridors had a tertible stench which lasted all week.
We asked a receptionist about the gym/pool mentioned on the website. Were told we would have to ask someone on dayshift (it was 6.30pm) as she was only nightshift and didn't know anything. She didn't want to talk to us at all.
On a positive note, it is a short walk to (1) Lygon St, (2) Victoria Markets, (3) free tram zone and (4) Uni of Melbourne & RMIT.
- sc (4/5): - No cleaning over weekend
Not clearly informed quest
Cleaning not completed
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and comfortable bed, but it was noisy at night
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Not bad for price bit took a long time to get money back for deposit
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Like: value for money, laundry, room cleaning
Dislike: low brightness in room, AC noisy
- Anthony (6/5): 2 night business trip - The condition of the room wasnt up to standard
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to city centre - short walk to tram stop
and food stores.
- Nurhashimah Abd Rahman (2/5): - We stayed for 5 days. The appartment embience was ok. But counter service was not good.. Staff doesnt have the expected kind of customer servicing. The housekeeping was bad. Condiments were not replenished daily. We requsted for a double bed but was given 2 single beds combined as 1. One of the day upon our return to the room, the bed was only halfly done. That was bad!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff
Great location. Good amenities, Available Parking
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Thought the room was tired and needed a bit of rennovation.
- D (8/5): - The place was great. The only issue was the windows are thin so the traffic is loud all night.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - My room was dirty and old, heater didn’t work great/ at all. Could hear trams all night.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Nothing in the room in order to cook. In a good location though
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is so close to everything and my car was safe in the underground parking.
Only thing not so good was it was a bit noisy.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I left both keys on bench where we left early in the morning to get a flight. I received a phone call later that day saying 1 key was not there and they would charge us $300 to change the locks.
I requested to see an invoice or some kind of proof that it would cost $300. The lady said she would email through the documents which they never did and I have since been charged $300.
Is this some kind of money making opportunity?
- Verified traveler (2/5): - 4 room changes over a 2 day stay. The first 3 changes due to property condition (very smelly food odours residual in apartment). The fourth change due to harassment by another guest/long term tenant/resident banging on my wall/ceiling late at night while I was trying to sleep and scaring the S***out of me. I have requested a discount/refund for my unsettling stay and have not yet heard back from hotel management. I’ve never felt the need to leave a negative review anywhere before but this stay was next level. Couldn’t check out fast enough.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good central location. Staff were Excellent!
Apartment was old and needed update/maintenance as bed was well used (soft), shower arm loose and drops down, the sink spout very loose and toilet needed a second tap on the button stop the water. If you have a room facing Swanson St take your ear plugs as traffic noise is great, double glazed window would help a lot.
- Sin Fun (8/5): Good location - Good location and comfort room. Easy transport to everywhere. Convenient and quite place for stay. Good security and reception service.
- Graeme (4/5): Not very flash... - Terrible stay...we have never been anywhere before where the outside traffic noise was so bad. We booked a queen room and the bed was a double that creaked when you moved and sagged in the middle. Our shower head was loose; you had to hold it up with one hand to have a shower. The place also smelt very strongly of cooking smells. We checked out one night early, the receptionist seemed unconcerned when we explained why.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely friendly ladies at reception. The room was bigger than my last studio apartment. Everything was clean and plenty of kitchen equipment. Free wifi a bonus. Short walk to Lygon st, trams, markets, and groceries was very convenient. FYI the internal door lock on my room worked the opposite way to normal so worth making sure your locking it. Perfect for my needs and much cheaper than elsewhere. Happily stay there again
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Loved the view and setup.
Did not appreciate painting in hallway while trying to navigate to lift.
Did not like bond being removed from my account, it usually "held", not taken.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very convenient location and friendly staff. They kept the apartment clean and tidy during my entire stay, and I've previously stayed there (which is why I decided to again this time).
However, there were a few minor problems.
Firstly, both lifts were not working when I arrived and (except for one very brief period) only one lift was working during the entire time that I was there. This meant that there were some long waits to get the lift at times.
Secondly, there was an odd smell that permeated my entire floor. I expect this was because they were in the process of pulling up carpet when I arrived; however, no-one mentioned this to me during my time. This also made the entire floor look like a bit of a dive during my stay.
Thirdly, as part of the above process, when I tried to stop by my unit at lunchtime, there were tradesmen physically in the process of tearing up and replacing the carpet, which meant that they had to construct some 'islands' of individual carpet squares to let me hop to my unit, and I couldn't stay in the unit for any length of time (since they were still working). Again, it would have been nice to have any sort of advance warning about these works.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Checking in after midnight was easy and very smooth, it was really nice that the caretaker waited up for me to arrived. The apartment itself was basic and tired, there were some stains on the furniture and the tiles etc had chips. Basic accommodation, but suitable for a quick short stay.
- Dr Amol (4/5): - The location was awesome but the facility was run down.
It was clean but the house keeping service was not consistant.
The air conditioner was not even working and not serviced for ages.
The feel is like a motel or backpacker not a hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - price and location . Rooms were clean and complex was central to restaurants and the Melbourne cbd.
- Matt (4/5): - Mixed thoughts on this property. Staff at check in was friendly and well mannered. The room itself appeared grubby. The walls and ceilings could do with a good coat of paint. The tiles in kitchen and bathroom are dated and tired looking. The mirror behind the entry door and glass coffee table were dirty, obviously forgotten to be cleaned by the cleaner. Bed was comfortable shower was ok, air conditioner was small and only really serviced the loungeroom where located. So bedroom air flow is stuffy. To the staff member at the counter at checkout (who was the complete opposite to the staff member at check in) when i asked about my getting bond back who grunted, when the cleaner gives the ok you get it back. Well if thats the case, because i had to clean the mirror and coffee table. i think i can charge you a cleaning fee of 20 bucks. So i will have my bond and a extra $20 Thanks.
Keeping in mind the price for a night $119 my recommendation is this property is best suited for very shorts stay 1 night where you just need somewhere to sleep and go.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Convenient to public transport and good restaurants
- Julie-Ann (8/5): Bargain stay in Central Melbourne location - Location was absolutely fantastic ! Price was fabulous!
Staff were friendly , helpful and accommodating.
Plenty of space and comfortable , but decor was rather tired (if this bothers you) . Shower was hot and bed was comfortable , although linen had seen better days. It was clean so that was most important to me.
There was a sticker on the dishwasher saying it was broken , but this didn't bother us as we weren't using the kitchen facilities!
Not the Ritz but considering price and location it was more than adequate!
Walking distance to everything!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): won't stay agian - Room Air conditional not work properly (no cold air)..kitchen tools is limited . didn't get any fried pan as request and no respond for it..no room service for 3 days that we stay..
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We liked the fact that it was close to most places we wanted to visit in the city. However we don't think that even this could make up for some of the faults with the apartment.
1. No light in bedroom and only one bedside light.
2. Seal on fridge broken
3. Dishes put in cupboard dirty with food still on them
4. Toilet seat broken
5. Lounge seat broken
6. Key entry from garage to reception not working
7. Wardrobe door broken
8. Cockroach in dishwasher
9. Blinds were filthy
The apartment was extremely disappointing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was required to pay a bond which I was unaware of when booking the property.
- Peter (6/5): - While it appears that the property has had some updates, they clearly missed upgrading the ancient air conditioner in our room. The device was totally ineffective which detracted from our overall experience.
- Richard (8/5): Great location - Excellent location short walks to the queen vic market Lygon street pubs clubs shopping teams everything you want and some-
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Slightly dated room which was slightly dark, but otherwise was comfy and overall clean. Good location. Walls were slightly thin!
- Debra (8/5): - The apartment was fine and the kitchen was reasonably stocked with pots and dishes. The only problem was that reception is not 24 hours, though it didn't cause a problem (just incorrect info on the Expedia website).
- Brad (6/5): - clean, efficient handling of my booking, easy to book in and check out
- ajay (10/5): Lucky found this place! - Ticked all the boxes for business travel. Excellent condition, professional reception, spacious, modern, safe, near middle of the city, eating spots nearby, tram at the door.
- J (4/5): - The room should have been cleaner. There were fingermarks on doors and walls and the carpet was dirty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - spacious and comfortable. and would return and recommend to others
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The apartment was very clean and in good condition. The location was great and they let us leave our luggage in the office once we had checked out. Great value overall.
- David (8/5): A good value accommodation option. - A good value accommodation option. All the facilities of a hotel at a cheaper price. Convenient location with trams and skybus-link out the front.
- John (8/5): - Room and services were great but the bed was bad
- Verified traveler (8/5): Everything you need - Clean and comfortable, with good bed and all necessary facilities.
- sarah (8/5): Cheap apartment for the weekend - Best part was the price - Cheap apartment for the weekend - Reception staff were pleasant - Room was ok, bed was comfortable - Kitchenette was ok, could have done with a few more utensils/crockery - Major downfall was the room faced Swanston St - it was very noisy (very sleep deprived) - have previously stayed in back apartment with little noise - Recommend asking for rear room if possible
- Sebastian R. (4/5): Not what they advertise. - The apartments are in a good location if you are in business in the CBD, however;
* They don't have a full-size fridge as advertise
* Cleaning is not their strongest point.
* Very hard to talk to a manager that can actually make a decision and even when you do they don't provide you with any solution. Specially if you paid in advanced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place but stinky cushions. - This apartment is nice and spacious and is generally quite clean. The only let down were the cushions on the chair and bed. The covers haven't been washed in a long time and stink of sweat and mustiness.
- Nicole (6/5): I couldn't stay, but Manager EXCELLENT. - My experience was not a good one. The room was not clean, it had no heating, it had no sheets, it smelt awful and did I mention it wasn't clean? Ew.
I left within an hour of checking in.
However, the manager that dealt with my issue was really fabulous. Full of apologies, very embarrassed and didn't hesitate to process my request for a full refund.
I hope that my situation was uncommon as the place is very good value for its location and the size of the rooms.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Could not check in .front door was locked
- S (8/5): Initial room 103 was inadequate for 3 people s - 103 had AC, Freeze, etc problem. However subsequent room 121 that was given was good and we enjoyed the stay.
- Tina (6/5): Needs a Revamp and clean - While the bed was comfortable our room needed a decant clean and revamp. The lounge was very dirty, blinds broken and unable to be opened or changed. The table had food marks still on it with one of the legs also broken.
Front of house staff were nice, we arrived around 1am but really booking people in in your bare feet is not the go.
The apartments are in a really good spot but i'm unsure whether I will stay here again, it looks so tacky. .
- Crazy Quilter (6/5): reasonable price in good position - Basic apartment, a bit tired, but clean. The building foyer is currently undergoing renovation so when the apartments are renovated it would be much nicer. A short walk to Lygon st, and the Exhibition building made Plum very suitable for our needs
- Mel (4/5): Building with lots of construction - It is easy to find. However, the main entry and reception area are undergoing lots of construction, so it doesn't have good appearance at all. Furniture are old and not that clean for that sort of price. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location is great, close to tram stop. Remember to ask for a quiet room or else you won't get any sleep.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Underwhelming - We chose this hotel based on the photos and discription and when we arrived we were so underwhelmed. We got a double bed instead of a queen, no gym or pool facilities in sight, bathroom one of the light didn't work and my tall partner didn't fit in the shower. Overall would not recommend.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Queen bed was two singles pushed together, the airconditioner was noisy and the deposit was huge and it took along time to go back into my accout
- Sue (6/5): Great location - Great location, close to exhibition building, lygon street and easy walk into city. Rooms are well equipped, a bit dated but seems a few renovations are going on. Reception isn't always open, a bit confusing when booking in. Overall it was good
- Verified traveler (8/5): Top location, easy access - As your tariff is say $170 a night rooms should be serviced every day regardless of which days of the week
- Hannah (4/5): Plum out of Luck - Booked a last minute over-nighter at Plum Serviced Apartments in Carlton and were none-that-impressed with either the service or the apartment...
- Vera (6/5): Goodl Location - No complaints about the location. I didn’t enjoy the lingering cooking smells. Nothing fancy but had everything you need. If you love a free flowing shower then this hits the spot.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Close to most things - Only really bad thing was my boss Paid for a different room and on the first night we totally got the wrong room.
My boss wasn’t even offered a refund for the difference.
We did however change rooms after my boss was notified the next day.
Lucky we said something
- Verified traveler (4/5): Average - Room was clean, but noisy and no blackout curtains meant there was a lot of street light.
I booked an executive apartment which was supposed to have a queen bed, I was given a small one room bed sit with a double bed.
I had to ring a mobile number to summon someone to check in, and the $300 deposit I paid has not yet been refunded.
